General Discussion / Is It Time For Foreign Rule
« on: January 31, 2007, 01:22:27 PM »
With all that's happening in TNT and the seeming inability by the locals to handle and deal effectively with it, is it time to bring in foreigners to rule? Remember the government brought in Scotland Yard to help in investigation and other police matters.

Share your thoughts. I still say the problem is spiritual. The solutions offered thus far is really treating symptoms and not causes.  It's time for a spiritual revolution.

Football / It's time to reward these two fellas
« on: June 29, 2006, 11:39:12 AM »
With the ungrateful behaviour exhibited by some of the Soca Warriors players and the overlooking of the technical staff, how is it that no one is complaining about the two most overlooked men -- Flex and Tallman? If anyone deserves to be awarded it's these two diligent and insightful warriors.  This site has become a mecca for those of us who love our team and especially those of us who live overseas.

Because of this site our messages, whether good, bad or indifferent  stirred up the players and authorities into action. This site is an invaluable resource to the TTFF and without it the journey to Germany might not have happened.

Do you remember in our dark days of football misery how we would congregate here and find comfort for our troubled spirits? This site has been our counselor, our comfort and constant cure for our football sickness. Here we able to vent, crucify the coach, beat up on the indifferent attitude of the players, lick our wounds and cling on to what little hope we had that one day it would get better.

Well our hope has now become reality as we made it to our first Wold Cup and put on a performance that will not soon be forgotten. To Flex and Tallman we salute you both for believing when no one else believed and making a place for us all to hope when there was no hope.

Please join me in saluting these two Warriors and petition  the government to recognise their efforts. They deserve it and should they be rewarded. I'm sure they would not be ungrateful.

Football / Negative Postings
« on: June 19, 2006, 08:51:09 PM »
It seems to me that some people are looking for attention by posting negative comments about the team.  Why do we  perpetuate their negativity by responding to them? We need to learn to ignore them. We do not have to let them raise our blood pressure. Let's take a deep breath and ignore them; they will go away.

Football / Beware!!! A New Virus Going Around
« on: June 17, 2006, 06:38:09 PM »
A New Virus Going Around

There is a new virus going around. It’s called the Soca Warriors virus. This virus is highly contagious and those infected by it cannot help but spread it; so beware.

The virus was developed on the tiny nation of Trinidad and Tobago some time ago but did not become a global threat until a master Dutch tactician by the name of Leo Beenhakker brought his expertise and perfected it. Beenhakker is credited for making it potent, highly contagious and releasing it globally.

The Germans were the first to experience its influence. On June 10th Sweden experienced the effects of the virus and the world saw the threat the virus could cause. On June 15th the mighty England got a real scare as they were exposed to the Soca Warrior and on June 20th Beenhakker says he will release the full effects of the virus on the South American country of Paraguay.

If there is one good thing about this highly contagious virus is that it has no ill effects although some have reported some strange symptoms. Symptoms like being glue to a television set for ninety minutes screaming, shouting, crying and then looking all over the internet or any news about the Soca Warriors. Listening to some man called Maximus Dan singing a song called “fighter” over and over.

The most common symptoms experienced from the virus are:
Tears -- lots of uncontrollable tears
A sense of feeling good
Anticipation -- can’t wait for the next game
A big lump in your throat when they playing
A longing for any news from the camp
A desire to talk to others (even strangers) about it.
Dressing in red before a game (even red underwear) and brushing your teeth with red toothpaste.

Those who have been infected by the virus are so happy they even forget about their worries and troubles and wish they the virus would never go away. If you have not been infected as yet don’t worry, it’s only a matter of time.

Football / What Have We Gained
« on: June 16, 2006, 11:02:26 AM »
What Have We Gained So Far
What are some of the tangibles and intangibles we have gained so far from this World Cup? I’m sure we have many. Let me name a few tangibles:
•   Respect – no longer are we considered a walk over
•   Greater visibility – for our players and country
•   Pride – we have every reason to be proud of the team's diligent effort
•   Joy – pure joy -- We laughed, cried, dance and applauded.  When was the last time you felt this kind of exuberance and it did not come from a bottle?
This is my two cents worth. Add yours.

Football / Today
« on: June 10, 2006, 01:40:46 AM »
Today is the day you write another chapter in the very short but illustrious history of T&T’s  football. You have been chosen  as ambassadors of the smallest nation to ever make it to the World Cup; therefore go out and represent us to the fullest. It was not the team of ‘73 nor the Strike Squad OF '89 but you, the Soca Warriors  that were chosen. Today you will be seen by not only 1.5 million Trinis the world over but by over 1 billion viewers.

Today is your day, no, our day. Today we show the world that you don’t have to be big to be significant. Little nations do have a part in this world. Everyone has significance and no one exists without reason and purpose.

Today as underdogs you face the powers of Europe but do not be afraid because your time has come and you give hope to all the underdogs of the world. Do not be afraid for you play in the spirit of all the great T&T players that played before you. Be energized  by the fact that an entire nation  and  countless others whom you have charmed and converted by  making it to the  greatest sporting event in the world would be cheering for you.

Today you have to play like this is your last game, your final moment; like your very life depends on this and you will not be satisfied until you have left everything on the field. When you feel like you can’t give anymore just remember  the legacy you are leaving for every boy and girl in T&T  who aspire to greatness. Think of the millions who never had the opportunity to do what you are doing and be mobilized into action.

Today is your shining moment in history, therefore seize it with both hands and don’t leave room for regrets, what ifs and doubts. History chose you to be here today, to be our heroes so that through you we can  vicariously experience greatness and jubilation, if only but for a brief moment. In times like this we come to appreciate the joys of humanity and learn that working together  impossible is only a word and not a reality.

Today we will never forget the joy you bring to our hearts.  Today we cry tears ,not sadness, but  of jubilation. Today we sing. Today we dance. Today we show the world we are “Soca Warriors,” win or lose we are fighters!! Today we celebrate. It’s celebration time. Today is your finest moment.

Football / The hardest shot

Which T&T player, past or present, had the hardest shot? I would say Ray (pumping jack) Roberts. That man had a wicked shot.

Football / Reality Check
« on: May 31, 2006, 07:44:26 PM »
Now that the euphoria is gone it's time to come back to reality. This side has made us proud in that this is the first  team from t&t to make it to the big dance and for this we should be proud. Anything that they do beyond making it to the world cup is a big bonus.

When we compare this team to the teams that almost made it (the 73 squad and the strike squad) there is really no comparison in terms of quality, skills and character. It's a miracle we made it with this team.

Lets just rejoice that we finally got to the big dance and should we beat anybody, well,  maybe  our time has finally come. Don't expect too much from this team. this is the most unskillful team that  we have ever produced. Reality check people!
