Rampaul out, Narine back in World Cup 30

ST JOHN’S—West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul will not be playing in the prestigious World Cup set for Australia and New Zealand next year.

The T&T cricketer has been left out of a 30-man provisional squad released by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Monday.

Rampaul played two ODIs during the tour of India in October before the series was cancelled because of a dispute between the West Indies players, the WICB and West Indies Players Association (WIPA).

The squad also included six uncapped players: left-arm seamer Kenroy Peters, legspinner Imran Khan, offspinner Ashley Nurse, 19-year-old fast bowler Marquino Mindley, left-hand opener Evin Lewis and allrounder Jonathan Carter.

Khan has been enjoying a fine season in the Regional four-day competition confusing batsmen with his legspinners. He is among the top allrounders in the tournament so far and earned the selection ahead of the former West Indies spinner Devendra Bishoo of Guyana.

His countryman Evin Lewis is a hard hitting opener, whose attacking style has caught the eyes in both shortened version of the game. Peters has been having an outstanding season despite his team not doing well in the tournament while the Barbadian Carter is a hard hitting middle order batsman and allrounder Nurse has been outstanding in the limited overs version of the game.

Mindley has surprised many with his pace.

Returning to the squad are Darren Bravo who missed out on the current tour of South Africa because of personal reasons and mystery spinner Sunil Narine, who has been remedial work on his bowling action.

I think it's a fantastic move and benefits Burger King, Tim Horton's and Canada.  Looking forward to more US companies following suit

Hi Everyone,

I'm making a slideshow for my wedding and want to showcase my youth/family growing up in Trinidad.  Any good song choices I can use?

I listed a couple songs below to give an idea of what I'm looking for but it's missing that oomph, emotional factor....preferably a nice, slow, ol time song:

Trini to de bone-David Rudder (first choice)
What you really know-Machel (nice vibe but too many shoutouts)
unity-sundar popo (ok, but missing that certain something)

Thanks in advance for the help!

LOS ANGELES — U.S. music impresario Don Cornelius, whose TV show Soul Train helped expose music acts like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder to millions of Americans, died Wednesday of a gunshot wound, police said. He was 75.

“He did pass away this morning” at his home in the Sherman Oaks area, Los Angeles Police Department officer Sara Faden told AFP.

She said police responded to a 4:00 am call of a shooting, but Faden said she was not able to confirm U.S. media reports that Cornelius died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Sides reach tentative settlement agreement

Posted Nov 25 2011 7:03PM - Updated Nov 26 2011 12:10PM
NEW YORK (AP) -- After nearly two years of bickering, NBA players and owners are back on the same side.
"We want to play basketball," Commissioner David Stern said.
Come Christmas Day, they should be.
The sides reached a tentative agreement early Saturday to end the 149-day lockout and hope to begin the delayed season with a marquee tripleheader Dec. 25. Most of a season that seemed in jeopardy of being lost entirely will be salvaged if both sides approve the handshake deal.

NBA in lock down! First two weeks cancelled and now they risk losing Bryant
The National Basketball Association has sensationally cancelled the opening two weeks of the season and in turn could risk losing its biggest star in Kobe Bryant as the NBA lockout saga continues.

For fetishists of oddball sexuality, the Caribbean island of Trinidad offers an undulating, melodic gumbo of pan-African, French, Spanish, Creole and Hindi dialects that, when adapted for English, is sex on a pogo stick.

General Discussion / Boss/Manager adding you as a friend on Facebook
« on: August 16, 2011, 10:13:16 AM »
My immediate superior just add me on FB.

I put him on limited profile; he can only see my status and my profile pictures.  No need to supply any incriminating evidence (not that there is any).  I didn't want to add him but that is more pressure.

Why would I want someone in my professional life part of my private/social life?  I have a few colleagues  but no superiors.

Thoughts?
I find this unprofessional and just plain weird.

source:http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/430489.html

to quote cricinfo

"T&T's superb efforts served another purpose, reminding all and sundry about the attractions of West Indian cricket and how much has been lost in these days of incompetence, egotism and idleness. T&T, and for that matter the second-string West Indian side that appeared in the Champions Trophy, played with sufficient passion to shame the overwrought incumbents and their headstrong administrators.

Certainly T&T's performance gave frustrated observers food for thought. Daren Ganga's side played as a team partly because they are a team and represent a nation, or at any rate a group of islands that have long been bound together. T&T has an identity, a meaning, a sense of patriotism. Contrastingly West Indies is a cause not a country. In essence it is a cricketing artifice and a broken dream. Those convinced that the only lasting solution to the West Indies' cricketing problems is to break it up and let the islands play as individual nations found in T&T's thrilling display plenty to support their case.

In the shorter term, Ganga's captaincy has surely also put the cat among the pigeons. It was widely and justifiably praised. After all it's been a long time since any West Indian captain coaxed a performance as spirited from his side. Although Ganga's batting might not be quite up to scratch (he's hardly alone in that), the West Indian selectors ought to consider appointing him captain of their team to tour Australia. Apart from anything else it's unlikely that he'll arrive three days before the first Test match, appear disinterested, and spend his time complaining about administrators and money and the rest of it. T&T may have pointed the way forwards. A cause cannot compete with a country, or not for eternity anyhow"

What about Track & Field / The Caribbean is full of Usain Bolts
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:59:20 AM »
As a child growing up in Trinidad and Tobago I was surrounded by athletic talent and potential.  There were footballers (guys and girls) who had mind blowing skills, a lot of fast runners and a lot of very fast runners.  What happened to these kids with great potential?  Different opportunities came knocking; some went on to illustrious careers, some went on to just becoming family men, some went abroad to study and put their athletic career on the back burner, some flat out just wasted it.  The Caribbean is full of Usain Bolts.  All credit has to be given to Usain for his accomplishments because he did it the right way.  Went down the right path that led him to success without major obstacles.  His success is based not only on his God-given talents, and his drive to succeed but also the foundation and building blocks that brought him to that point.  His family, the trainers from when he was a youngster to today, the right people around him are to be commended.  He is truly blessed to be where he is.
Those like Hasely, Don Quarrie, Ato, Merlene amongst others were superb athletes, who broke from the mold, and became successes in their true right.  They did it not only with talent but with drive and dedication.  But a success here and there is no longer acceptable in Caribbean Track and field.  In 2009, where the Caribbean is at the forefront, specifically Jamaica, the other islands are next.  Antigua, Grenada, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and other islands all have Usain Bolts.  He is not an athletic freak, he is a foundation freak.  To have great talent is not uncommon, but to go down the right roads to reach the goal is.  All future Atos, Usains, Asafas, Richards, Frasers of the Caribbean, use this recent success to follow suit and win.  The Caribbean is full of them.  We as fans, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, family and friends let's properly support our athletes, and give them the proper building blocks.  When you see talent, nurture it, and set it on the right path.  Don't let it get caught up in guns, drugs, alcohol or just laziness.  Our time is coming.  As much as it is up to the athletes, it's up to those around him/her too.

Football / What is T&T's favourite foreign pro team?
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:05:08 PM »
Just got this idea from reading the Inter-Man U thread

Some Trinbagonians became Man-U fans (if they weren't before) once yorke started tearing up the premier league....
what's your fav foreign team of all time with T&T contigents?

Man U with Yorke?
Sunderland with Jones, Edwards, Yorke?
Villa with Yorke?
Hibernian with Latas?
Porto?
Boavista?
Swansea with Scottie?
Columbus Crew with Stern?
Coventry with Stern?
West Ham with Shaka?

Those are the ones I'm throwing out there, but there are many more as we all know....past and present.

I'd say Yorke on Man U and Shaka on West Ham, because I watched those games with great pride seeing a fellow Trinbagonian on the big stage doing well.
