Seagulls put block on Birchall teaming up with Beckham
8:00am Tuesday 7th April 2009

Albion have put on hold the prospect of Chris Birchall becoming a team-mate of David Beckham in the States.

LA Galaxy have reportedly placed a ‘discovery notice’ on Birchall, which means no other Major League Soccer club can make an approach to sign him.

The Seagulls turned down a request from the former Coventry midfielder’s agent to allow him to spend a couple of days with Galaxy while he was on international duty recently with Trinidad and Tobago.

Boss Russell Slade said: “At the moment he has got a big part to play still in our squad.”

Meanwhile, calf injury victims Gary Borrowdale and Gary Hart have travelled with the squad to Hereford after resuming training yesterday.

Both will be assessed in a training session this morning ahead of tonight's key relegation clash. Slade said: “If they come through that they will definitely be considered.”

Albion will be especially keen to be first to break the deadlock at Edgar Street.

They have a good record away from home in the League after scoring the opening goal, going on to win four, draw two and lose just once, at Leyton Orient.

They have only picked up two away points in ten games when they have conceded the first goal and one of those was at rock-bottom Cheltenham.

Football / Annual South Florida Zonal tournament: recap
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:06:28 AM »
As some of you may know, every August we have our Zonal football tournament here in South Florida, this year we moved to a new park, The Pit, on Davie Blvd just west of 441.
This year we were blessed with great weather, even though its was one of the hottest days I have ever experienced it was better than getting rained out and as usual the atmosphere was real nice as usual, 'cept for one incident jus before the final match that i wont give any further life to by discussing.

Many a forumite have graced the field of this tournament, myself, duscam and Tallman to name a few.  The likes of Troy Marquis, Jason Nelson have also been a part of it.  Usually its dominated by East and Tobago.  East does be the best of course, and Tobago does have bout 30 players so each half of each game is fresh legs. Well after losing the final on penalties last year North came out guns blazing this year and recruit a bunch of young college players to sweat for them, Spike, Bennie, Lamy and some other I cant recall but have seen them wizzing around me on Sundays.  This year i did not play for East due to an enlarged midsection and a number of ladies on the sidelines needing my attention.  There were some rumblings from the South team in the weeks leading up to last Sunday, and i really thought they were gonna show and prove this year, I mean they win for best dressed, them boys had Tshirt in addition to Joma kits down to they bright yellow socks and all.  Never let it be said that Steve Shand and SoccerWorld have not given back to the local community.
This year was again the usualy brand from them south boys, our very own Dumpalewie was on the receivng end of 5 of the best from the East team, we calling him Placido Domcinco from now on.
Before the final match there was an exhibition game between a team from Miami vs Limers FC (no lime too far), Tallman sweat in this match for the Miami team, and they start off hot and sweaty, scoring in like the 1st minute of them game, than a 2nd to add some cushion. But Limers stuck it out and put 3 unanswered on them to win 3-2, I will not use this opporutinity to report on Tallman skills, since I myself did not put on a kit and get out there far be it for me to say the corner flag play better D, it jus would not be right.
The final was hotly contested between North and East again, and I do mean hottly, there was almost a lil scuffle and real blade was passing.  With all they youngguns on the North the East team was holding their own, fighting to the end even when going down 2 goals.  The play of the game have to be the save the North keeper make on a very well taken Mickey Rat free kick that was heading straight for the V and that man reach over and tip it out, made even more incredible because before the final started I know for a fact that he was well drunk and not very steady on his feet. and so it ended at 10pm, 2-0 North avenging their 2007 loss.
ah starting to train from today, ah go be ready for 2010.

N.B. there was a tall redskin youth with long hair playing D for the East team, very very solid player, I will try to find out his name.

Miramar man dies in fatal crash in Davie
By Macollvie Jean-François (Sun-Sentinel.com)

A 27-year-old Miramar man died in a car crash so severe investigators had trouble identifying the type of vehicle at first, a Davie spokesman said Sunday.

The collision that killed Jason Nelson happened in the 4300 block of Southwest 47th Avenue about 9 p.m. Saturday, spokesman Lt. Wayne Boulier said Sunday. When officers arrived, they found Nelson's gold 1994 Lexus broken into numerous pieces. The Lexus had apparently struck a tree.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boulier said investigators did not yet know which direction Nelson was traveling when he lost control and struck the tree. He was the Lexus' sole occupant. No other vehicles were involved.

Boulier added that investigators could not verify whether drag racing led to the crash.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Davie Police Department at 954-693-8200.

Ex-Mucurapo star seriously ill
Sunday, February 3rd 2008

One of the early heroes of Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive football is in a desperate battle for life.

Eric White, a diminutive and prolific striker, who formed with Ian "The Dread Dribbler" Clauzel a fearsome forward line in Mucurapo's first season of Championship Division competition in 1978, is now warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital suffering from chronic renal failure and other medical complications.

White, 46, who scored six hat tricks in that '78 season and played in the memorable North Inter Col final that season against John Donaldson Technical Institute which 'Compre" lost 2-1, was also prolific with Cocorite United in the old National League.

However, the little man is now in dire need of regular dialysis treatment for his failed kidneys.

Speaking to the Express on Friday, his wife Marva explained the seriousness of the situation with regard to the need for future dialysis treatment.

"We looking at almost $13,000 per month with dialysis and medication. It's a real uphill battle."

Reacting to White's predicament, Allan "Peru" Anderson, a former John Donaldson Technical Institute star in that era and now a member of the John D/Mucurapo Planning committee who honoured White last year, said, "it is a very emotional thing for everybody to see one of their own really struggling. "Whatever support they (the family) can get would be welcomed."

Sunderland have completed the signing of French centre-back Jean-Yves Mvoto from Paris St-Germain.

The 19-year-old defender has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Stadium of Light.

Manager Roy Keane told the club's official website: "Jean is one for the future.

"We've seen a lot of him and he's a strong centre-back who will be a good addition to our squad."

The Black Cats have agreed an undisclosed compensation package for the 6ft 4in France Under-19 international, who said: "This is a big opportunity for me, I'm pleased to be at Sunderland."

heard mention of this while watch in the serise finale of Extras last nite. Thought it was interesting.

Football (soccer)
Ramsay was first chosen to play under-14 football at age 11 and was chosen to play for Warwickshire at age 12. His football career was marked by a number of injuries, causing Ramsay to remark, "Perhaps I was doomed when it came to football".[2] In the summer of 1984, Ramsay was being actively scouted by Scottish club, Rangers, the club he supported as a boy,[4] when he seriously injured his knee, smashing the cartilage during training. Ramsay, who is left-footed,[5] continued to train and play on the injured knee, tearing a cruciate ligament during a squash game. He never fully recovered from the double injury and was told by Rangers that he would not be signed, suggesting that he could sign with a club in a lower division. By this time, Ramsay's interest in cooking had already begun, and he chose to take on this new challenge, rather than be known as "the football player with the gammy knee".[2] In September 2005 Ramsay expressed an interest in moving into football again as an owner with the proposed takeover of Greenock Morton football club.[6]

Sevilla rallies for 3-1 win over Arsenal
/ Associated Press
Posted: 27 minutes ago

Sevilla rallied to beat Arsenal 3-1 Tuesday and advance to the second round of the Champions League.
Luis Fabiano, Seydou Keita and Frederic Kanoute all scored for Sevilla, which managed to hand Arsenal its first loss in 29 matches in all competitions.

Luis Fabiano headed home Daniel Alves' free kick from the right in the 34th minute, 10 minutes after Seydou Keita equalized for the hosts.

Frederic Kanoute added the third goal from the penalty spot in the 89th.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the 11th minute when Eduardo chested Nicklas Bendtner's cross at the far post before beating Andres Palop with his left foot.

Sevilla moved to the top of Group H with 12 points, while Arsenal - which had already clinched its place in the next round - stayed with 10.

Sevilla managed to overcome a first-goal deficit and win for the first time in nine matches.

The UEFA Cup champions could have had a third in the 65th but, after conferring with the linesman, referee Eric Braamhaar ruled that Philipe Senderos hadn't impeded a Sevilla cross with his arm and reversed his initial decision to award a penalty.

The Gunners were without regulars William Gallas, Gael Clichy and striker Emmanuel Adebayor but still dominated play.

Sevilla finally broke through after an Arsenal turnover in midfield.

Jesus Navas' centering pass off a 3-on-2 break deflected back to land at Keita's feet, and the Mali midfielder sent it over Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

Sevilla was commanding behind the in-form Luis Fabiano, who saw two chances miss in the buildup to his 14th goal in all competitions this season, which came after the speedy Navas was fouled on the edge of the area.

Cesc Fabregas managed to get Arsenal's only other first-half chance in the 37th, but his shot deflected over goal after Bendtner had drawn Palop out.

Almunia made two stops before the break, diving to stop Luis Fabiano's shot from the right in the 42nd before catching Keita's half-volley.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger brought on Tomas Rosicky for Fabregas in the 56th. Though the change saw Arsenal threaten, Sevilla controlled with its fluid play.

Luis Fabiano then redirected a shot in the 60th before leaving the game for Alexander Kerzhakov.

Sevilla got back the penalty it was earlier denied when Kanoute was tackled from behind after going through clear into the box.

Cats set to loan Sinclair - Report
RivalsDM, Updated 3 hours ago   STORY TOOLS:

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has reportedly lined up a move for Scott Sinclair after Chelsea sought out a Premier League club to take him on loan.

Sinclair impressed during a 17-game spell at Plymouth last season and scored his first goal for Chelsea's senior side in the Carling Cup win over Hull last month.
However, the 18-year-old is still some way off regular first-team action at Stamford Bridge so the Blues have sounded out their Premier League rivals about a possible loan move in January.

Sunderland have Kieran Richardson on the sidelines with a long-term back injury and Keane sees Sinclair as his ideal replacement on the left wing, according to the Daily Mirror.

The former Bristol Rovers trainee will move to the Stadium of Light under a cloud after being kicked out of the England Under-19s squad for breaking a curfew.

Higgy: Black Cats are here to stay

Posted: 1 hour ago

Sunderland new boy Danny Higginbotham is confident the club's summer spending will help to secure them a lasting Premier league future.
The 28-year-old defender joined the Black Cats in a £3million move from Stoke on Wednesday as Roy Keane made a triple transfer breakthrough.

Keane's swoops for Higginbotham, £6million Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones and free agent Ian Harte served as a further statement of intent by last season's Cola Championship winners.

Higginbotham said: "It shows what the club is all about. They are not here just to stay for one season, they want to make a go of it and establish themselves in the Premier League.

"People are saying they have spent money, but if that's the situation, that's great.

"They can bring players in and hopefully get the team sorted in the Premier League and be here for a long time to come."

Sunderland head to face Manchester United at Old Trafford, where Keane served as skipper with such distinction, on the back of three successive defeats, the most humiliating of which came in the Carling Cup at League One Luton on Tuesday evening.

With captain Dean Whitehead out for six months with a knee ligament injury, winger Carlos Edwards sidelined by a hamstring tear and full-back Greg Halford suspended, the manager's resources are depleted despite his recruitment drive.

Higginbotham and Jones could be thrown straight into the mix, and the striker is relishing he chance to prove himself in the top flight despite his price tag.

The 22-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international said: "No matter what league you are playing in, a player coming into a new club is going to be under some pressure.

"But I'll try not to worry about it and try to make my performances better every time I play and do my best for Sunderland.

"Every player is different. When you come into the Premier League, you have to find your own way and basically play how you play.

"Hopefully, the way I play will get me some success.

"I have experienced Premier League opposition before, so I think I know what I'm up against and I am welcoming the challenge."

League defeats by Wigan and Liverpool, coupled with the reverse at Kenilworth Road, have taken the edge off a promising start to the season, but Higginbotham is sure the tide will turn.

He said: "In a Premier League season, you are always going to have your ups and downs. Teams coming up, it is always going to be a difficult situation.

"But from my experience of playing against Sunderland last year, they are a team that is full of character and they never throw the towel in."

Sunderland have completed the signing of Paul McShane from West Brom.

Roy Keane confirmed early on Thursday that the two clubs were in talks, and a deal has now been reached for an initial fee of £1.5million.

That figure could rise to £2.5million, depending on appearances and whether Sunderland can survive in the Premier League.

Keane has been looking to strengthen his defensive options this summer and turned his focus to McShane after being frustrated in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines from Wigan.

The Black Cats manager is familiar with his fellow Irishman's abilities from their time together at Manchester United.

McShane joined West Brom from United 12 months ago and was a key player for The Baggies in their ultimately unsuccessful bid for promotion.

He becomes Keane's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Greg Halford, Russell Anderson, Michael Chopra, Kieran Richardson and Dickson Etuhu at The Stadium of Light.

Sir Alex hits out at 'opportunists'

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has labelled Liverpool "opportunists" over their bid for Argentina defender Gabriel Heinze.
Liverpool are thought to have bid around £7million for the United hardman - meeting a valuation agreed by letter between player and club - but Ferguson has refused to do business with rival boss Rafael Benitez.

The prospect of legal action remains in the air as the Spaniard seeks to push the deal through but Ferguson is in no doubt that, as a contracted United player, Heinze will be going nowhere without the his say so.

He told the Daily Mail: "He's our player, that's the important thing.

"He's not Liverpool's player, despite them going on like he's their player. He's got two years left on his contract, if he completes his contract and then leaves at the end of it, that's fine by us. We'll have had five good years out of him."

Referring the Reds' surprise move for the defender - only Phil Chisnall has moved from Old Trafford to Anfield in modern times - Ferguson insisted that agents could be responsible.

"Liverpool are opportunists, like the rest of them. The agent has obviously presented them with a situation and they've looked at it.

"If an agent came to me with a letter saying (Steven) Gerrard was available for a certain fee, I would do the same. the man contradicting himself!!!
"I think the role of the agent is very, very doubtful here. There's no question about that," he added.

"David (Gill, chief executive) and I have had countless meetings with these people. But they are just impossible."

oh horrr is a case of sour grapes!!!!

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he got 'fed up' with waiting for Spain striker Fernando Torres.

Ferguson has conceded he had been interested in signing Liverpool striker Torres, who swapped Atletico Madrid for Merseyside in £20million move this summer.

"Torres is athletic, he's brave enough and he'll run the channels for them, which he did well in Madrid.

"He's good in the air and has got a physique. He's quicker than you think.

"Over the past few years there has been some interest for us in Torres, but every time he signed a new contract.

"Sometimes you get fed up with that kind of thing," said the United chief.

Liverpool have agreed a fee with West Ham for midfielder Yossi Benayoun, according to the player's agent Ronen Katzav.

The Israeli playmaker has been a target of Reds manager Rafael Benitez for some weeks and after haggling over a price for the 27-year-old, the two clubs appear to have struck a deal.

Now that a fee - as yet undisclosed - has been settled on, Katzav expects the transfer to be completed pretty swiftly.

"It should be completed in the next 48 hours," said the agent.

"Everybody would be happy to play for Liverpool. West Ham will always be in his heart but he is looking to move up a level."

Coral Springs couple gives salute to Trinidad and Tobago with coffee-table book

By Alva James-Johnson
South Florida Sun-Sentinel

June 25, 2007

For many people, Trinidad and Tobago suggests images of supple bodies gyrating to calypso music or parading Carnival's spectacular costumes.

But the twin-island nation is more than that, as Sandra Bernard-Bastien and Elliot Bastien detail in a new coffee-table book.

In World Class Trinidad and Tobago: An Area of Abundance, the Coral Springs couple offers a panoramic view of their homeland, a Caribbean pantheon of world-renowned scholars, athletes, authors, artists, politicians, beauty queens and business leaders. They hope readers will explore the book's colorful pages this month during Caribbean American Heritage Month.

"Growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, I was always hearing about the great people that the country produced," said Bernard-Bastien, public affairs director for Broward's Children's Services Council. "Yet all that the media outside of Trinidad and Tobago were depicting was the calypso or the limbo or the steel band. It was as though nothing else existed in the country or that nothing else was created there."

Trinidad and Tobago, an area of about 1,980 square miles, is about the size of Delaware. Located just off the northeastern coast of Venezuela, the prosperous Caribbean nation has a bountiful supply of petroleum and natural gas.

The country boasts two Tony Award and two Grammy Award winners, a Miss World, two Miss Universes, four world boxing champions, a Nobel prize winner, two Olympic gold medalists and a foreign minister of China, according to the Bastiens.

It claims as sons and daughters such famous blacks as the late militant Stokely Carmichael (later Kwame Ture), a native of Trinidad; basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the grandson of Trinidadian immigrants; and author Maya Angelou, whose grandfather was also born in Trinidad. Angelou, the book notes, was raised by her grandmother in the United States. But she grew up listening to Caribbean music and was a calypso singer and dancer in the 1950s before launching her writing career.

Immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago are about 17,000 strong in South Florida, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But community leaders estimate the population at more than 20,000.

A politically quiet community, dispersed from Miami to West Palm Beach, Trinidadians are known mostly for their extravagant Carnivals, an annual tradition among Caribbean people throughout the islands and in North America.

But some immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago also are heavy-hitters in South Florida's business and development arenas. The list includes developers Lawrence Duprey, a Trinidadian billionaire, and George Rahael, a major player in the development of Coral Springs and other parts of Broward County. Duprey is featured in the Bastiens' book.

The Bastiens, both in their 50s, moved to South Florida 11 years ago. As children, they heard their fathers talk about Trinidadians who had excelled in their professions. They set out to preserve the legacy.

Their book, published last year by Sekani Publications, includes people born in Trinidad and Tobago or are the descendants of people from the two islands.

The biggest challenge, the couple said, was dwindling down the list to 100.

"People are still calling us and saying, 'you forgot so and so,'" Sandra Bernard-Bastien said. "But we made sure to limit it to people who had made a world-class impression."

The book features such Trinidadian medical pioneers as Dr. Bert Achong, an internationally recognized expert on the study of viruses by electron microscopy. He was part of the team that discovered the first human tumor virus in 1964, and later he found another new virus in human cancer cells, according to the British Medical Journal.

And the Bastiens don't limit the scope of accomplishments to just Trinidadians and Tobagonians. Exceptions include a St. Lucian and a Guadeloupan who won Nobel prizes in literature in 1960 and 1992 and a St. Lucian who won a Nobel prize in economics in 1979.

Trinidadian-born V.S. Naipaul, a novelist and travel writer, won the Nobel prize in literature in 2001.

"A prize as prestigious as the Nobel prize, we wanted to include the entire Caribbean and not just Trinidad and Tobago," said Elliot Bastien, a management consultant. "The statistical odds of having four Nobel prize winners from an area the size of the Caribbean are astronomical."

Israel to lose out over FIFA's eligibility rule

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEL AVIV, June 21 (Reuters) - FIFA clarified their international eligibility laws on Thursday by prohibiting players from appearing for an adopted national team unless they are full citizens of that country.

Consequently Argentine-born Roberto Colautti and Nigerian-born Toto Tamuz can no longer play for the Israel national team who are involved in a four-way tussle with Croatia, Russia and England for a place in next summer's Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Their next qualifier is against England at Wembley on Sept. 8.

The decision, which was taken by the FIFA executive committee last month, came into force on Thursday when all 208 FIFA members received a letter advising them of the new rule.

'A number of players were able to play for a country as long as they lived there but their citizenship ended if they moved away from that country,' FIFA spokesman Andreas Herren said.

'This new ruling, in effect, protects the players. If a good young player was to leave a small club in one country for a big club in another country and lost his right of citizenship, he would also jeopardise his international career.

'All any country has to do is grant that player full unconditional citizenship and he is eligible to play for that country whether he lives there or not.'

In a statement on their Web site, the Israeli FA said it was studying the aspects and judicial consequences of FIFA's decision.

IFA chairman Avi Luzon, immediately appealed to Interior Minister Roni Bar-On and the director of the ministry, Ram Balinkov, to grant Colautti and Tamuz full citizenship.

Neither Colautti or Tamuz are Israeli citizens. Tamuz grew up in the country after his father came to play professional football there.

Colautti married an Israeli, allowing him to receive permanent resident status. He is their top scorer in the qualifying campaign.

What if the current team were to also join the strike and make themselve unavailable for the senior team? Let me make myself clear,by strike I mean refuse to play football. I know the WC06 players have not refused they have not been selected, Im asking what if they refused.

Would this help or hurt the negotiations process?

If you were one of the WC06 players would you stike?

If you were one of the current squad, would you strike?

Since I am asking the question I will give my own thoughts first.  I see it like this, I think if all the ballers stike it would force the negotiations to happen right now and tip the balance of power away from the TTFF(jack).  Right now he is just too powerful, so the only way to weaken him is to threaten his power and the source of his greed money.
Its like you are the owner of a factory, you have a day shift and a night shift of skilled trained workers.  If your day shift guys deceide to strike, you go be like cool, allyuh go so.  Night shift, allyuh working all the hours now, my factory doh stop running. But...
if both and night and day shift on stirke, all work stop.  The owner has no choice but to meet and negotiate, cause his source of income is in jeapordy and he cant run his factory with the unskilled workers he may try to hire.
I think this fight while it may be about past monies owed, I think it is also about the future, and me I was striking.
easier said than done I know.

Two of the records came on the women's side. Nandelle Cameron set one while winning the College/University 100-meter dash in 11.58, which beat the mark of 11.68 set by Lincoln's Shandria Brown in 2005.

On the men's side, Lincoln's Decosma Wright set a meet record of 13.67 in the College/University 110-meter hurdles, breaking the mark of 13.91 set by Dexter Fault running unattached last year.

The Lincoln women had one other winner, as Carla Thomas took first in the College/University 400-meter hurdles (1:00.22)

Natoya Thompson almost made it four first-place finishes for the Blue Tigers, as she tied for first in the College/University high jump by clearing 5-7, but she then lost a jump-off to Santia Spight of Indiana State.

Also for Lincoln, Karen Robinson was third in the College/University 100-meter dash (11.81), Kaydian Howell was fourth in the Unseeded College/University 1500-meter run (4:55.70), Monique Robinson was eighth in the College/University 400-meter dash (56.88) and Swasha Shaw was eighth in the College/University javelin throw (125-7).

Lincoln's A team of Jody-Ann Powell, Thomas, Cameron and Karen Robinson finished second in the College/University 4x100-meter relay (45.97)

The Lincoln B team won the College/University 4x100-meter relay (40.69), while the Lincoln A team finished fourth (41.54).

A former Blue Tiger running unattached, Antwane President, won the College/University 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.53.

General Discussion / Pastor stoned in church

Couple hurt in fracas

Richard Charan South Bureau

Thursday, January 11th 2007

Blind Moongla Bisnath (above) and wife, Parbatie, who said they were assaulted when Selwyn Sookdeo (right) came into their church in Couva, to complain about their loud singing and praying.

While praising God, a pastor was stoned on the pulpit by a man who said he was angered by the racket being made by singing and praying parishioners.

Pastor Narad Rajoo said he ducked.

But two in his congregation, a blind man and his wife, said they were hurt in the fracas that followed.

The man who came fuming into the church was Selwyn Sookdeo, a heavy equipment operator who lives next door to the Temple Worship Church in the sugarcane village of Basta Hall, Couva.

He said yesterday all he wanted was quiet. He tried living with the loud-speakers at the church, but could not take it anymore when he awoke to the screeching of the church band playing out of tune.

He said he threw a boulder when he was called the Devil.

"I am a son of God. Not no Devil," said Sookdeo.

Pastor Rajoo said he never called Sookdeo the Devil.

"I told him 'I rebuke you in the name of the Lord'," Rajoo said he told Sookdeo when he came to complain.

Sookdeo said: "I got up that morning to the noise. I try pushing the pillow in my ears. I couldn't take it no more. I went to the church.

"As soon as the pastor saw me, he said look the devil coming. Everybody start with the Devil talk. I really pelt the stone. But not at anybody."

Sookdeo said he left the church, but two men claiming to be police officers beat him and tried to push him into a car. He refused to go and ran away. He said he has not worked since and up to late yesterday had not been questioned by police.

Sookdeo also denied knowledge of the injuries suffered by Moongla Bisnath, 52, who is blind, and his wife, Parbatie, 47, the couple at whose home church services are held.

The incident is said to have taken place during last Sunday morning's service. Rajoo said he reported the incident to the Couva police, who have some experience in investigating such cases.

Three months ago, the officers charged a man with trying to poison 30 members of a Pentecostal church while they sang praises to God. Worshippers later forgave the accused, whose trial is pending.

Bisnath says he too wants to forgive Sookdeo, but was afraid he would be hurt again. He said the melee started while pastor Rajoo and worshippers had their eyes closed in prayer.

Bisnath said he wanted neighbours, who often complained about their songs of praise, to allow them to worship without fear.

Sookdeo said this Sunday, if he felt disturbed by the church, "I will report it to the police and EMA (Environmental Management Authority)."

Beenhakker calls in replacements

Associated Press

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker called up midfielder Piotr Giza and defender Krzysztof Lagiewka for European Championship qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Portugal.

Center back Mariusz Jop withdrew from the squad Wednesday with a knee injury, while midfielder Jacek Krzynowek will miss Saturday's match at Kazakhstan but could be fit to play Portugal on Oct. 11.

Forward Ireneusz Jelen and defender Arkadiusz Glowacki have leg injuries and will miss both games.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker dropped Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek for the 2008 European Championship qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Portugal.

Dudek, who returned to the national team last month after missing the World Cup, was at fault as Poland lost 3-1 loss to Finland in its opening qualifier. He then sat out Poland's 1-1 draw with Serbia.

Beenhakker instead picked Celtic No. 1 Artur Boruc on Friday for the Oct. 7 match against Kazakhstan and four days later versus Portugal. The 26-year-old Boruc has been in solid form for his club, while Dudek has not played a game this season for Liverpool.

Beenhakker also called up Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak for the first time since he took over in July.

The 63-year-old Dutchman coached Trinidad and Tobago at this year's World Cup.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Poland squad:

Goalkeepers: Wojciech Kowalewski (Spartak Moscow), Artur Boruc (Celtic), Mariusz Pawelek (Wisla Krakow).

Defenders: Mariusz Jop (FC Moscow), Jacek Bak (Al-Rayyan), Pawel Golanski (Kolporter Korona Kielce), Marcin Wasilewski (Lech Poznan), Grzegorz Bronowicki (Legia Warsaw), Arkadiusz Glowacki (Wisla Krakow).

Midfielders: Radoslaw Sobolewski (Wisla Krakow), Mariusz Lewandowski (Shakhtar Donetsk), Arkadiusz Radomski (Austria Vienna), Euzebiusz Smolarek (Borussia Dortmund), Jacek Krzynowek (VfL Wolfsburg), Jakub Blaszczykowski (Wisla Krakow), Lukasz Gargula (GKS Belchatow), Przemyslaw Kazmierczak (Boavista) Rafal Grzelak (Boavista).

Forwards: Tomasz Frankowski (Tenerife CD), Maciej Zurawski (Celtic), Ireneusz Jelen (Auxerre), Radoslaw Matusiak (GKS Belchatow), Grzegorz Rasiak (Southampton)

More so than the 11 years it took me to get my bachelors, or getting my Masters, this is now the proudest moment in my life, I have worked long and hard to ge here.  :rotfl: Countless hours at work pretending to be earnestly earning my wages while engaged in the football talk of the moment.  Incesant clicking of the refresh button to see if anyone else has posted a new comment have brought me here.

When I join last year sometime there were about 300+ members as of right now: 2425.

The Warrior Nation was only an idea bouncing around in a thread.
There was no FAWK and AWATT, no Beenie, no Wim, no Birchall... my what a long way we have come.

I spent 11 of the greatest days of my life at the in Germany at the World Cup, and saw some pretty red lights in Amsterdam  ;D

I have learnt alot along the way:
There are nuff FATIMA men on this board all hail the Grey Shirt
I finally figured out who SH is.
Where the HC is.
Ive learnt the difference between the EPL,Championship League, and League One, though i does still mess up and say Champions League sometimes when talking bout championship teams.
I have leant that the Magicians Big and Small love the SocaWarriors...but RF and J'ca; not so much.
TI is VERY passionate in his support of the Warriors, his country and Hardest. If some of us had half as much blind faith in our God we would be spiritually good to go.

My thoughts on a few things:
I am very proud of how the team did played in Germany.  I too wished we play some more offensive ball.
Yes Latas should have played, at least the last 20 minutes of each game, especially against England, since we could have lost that game and still made the 2nd rounds, so that was the time to roll the dice.
In my opinion the two people who did not step their game up for the World Cup were Beenie and Theobald.
Evans Wise poor performance I think was due to the fact that he did not have the benefit of playing for Beenie as long as everyone else did, dont get me wrong he was only slightly better than Densil, who was our worst player.
I had really hoped to see Scotland play.
I will catch heck for this, but I dont think Stern played as badly as most on this site make out.  I think he was a victim of Beenies defensive tactics.  Stranded out on top all by himself easily marked by the defenders, and not getting the service.  Not being the type of forward that creates his own shots (a la Cornell) he was basically missing in most of the games.  I mean is not like he was missing a bunch of sitters, he could have uped his work rate a bit though, a la Yorke.

Cornell surprised me.

 TI is to Hardest as
Duscam is to Rahim.
Dus face it, the man was a great college player but never materialized into the Pro that most expected.  Some of it was due to circumstances beyond his control, injuries, national duty, lack of spots for foreigners on teams etc but he never showed anyting to make folks miss him being gone, and sadly will end up as one of those "this fella coulda been real good if..." stories  Maybe with his degree and some coaching experience and his international career he can help guide the jpurney of some of the youngsters down a diff path.  I dont think we have seen the last of him on a football field though.

I am not really sure what is going on with Densil but that trip started off badly from the time he start to talk bout moving on to bigger teams before he kick a ball. I dont know happened there but, in my opinion he did not like it, they were not impressed with him and it was a case of quitting the job before the job fire your ass or in this case sit you on the reserve team beach for a next season.

I will end with these last two thoughts:
I am a little surprised that our players have not reaped the benefits of our performance in
Germany.  Yorke still at Sydney, Shaka in the MLS (  ??? ) Sancho still at the Gills, Birchall still at Port Vale, Densil is nowhere, Whitley still in Trini, Wise ent make in the MLS, Edwards still at Luton  :o so far the only man who benefit is Ince.

Lastly: imagine for just a moment if TI is right about Hardest, and he is as good as he says and goes on to become our next General; lawdhavehismercy we go have to give TI his own child board!

Football / Soca Warriors Online Exclusive Interview Cornell Glen
« on: July 05, 2006, 06:12:08 PM »
Exclusive Interview with Cornell Glen.
Interview Conducted By Collin 'Mr Mc' McFarlane.

On his way back to LA after reprsenting the Soca Warriors in Germany, #13 took some time out to answer a few questions for socawarriors.net.

SocaWarriors.net:  Congratulations on a job well done in the World Cup, first question.  How extensive is the injury? And, when will you be back on the field playing?

Cornell Glenn:  it’s a knee injury, I am not exactly sure of the diagnosis, it was done in German and they sent it to translate, and we have not gotten it back as of yet.  I have to do a scan sometime soon to find out exactly what it is so I can make a decision if to have surgery or not.

SW:  So how does it feel to you, you are up and about walking?
CG:  It feels good I am walking without my knee brace now; I don’t have the crutches I had for the first few days so it feels good.

SW:  Can you describe what it was like taking the field for the first time?

CG:  Unbelievable, it was a dream come through, it was one of those things you sit at home as a kid dreaming about, at the same time you have a job to do, so you have to put all the behind you and go out there and fight hard for your country.

SW:  Going in you guys trained, you prepared for all the teams.  What exactly were the team’s tactics going in?

CG:  Basically not to concede goals in the first 20 25 minutes.  As you see from our warm up games that was our downfall, conceding early goals and our heads drop and we get two, three after that. So we think that if we can hold these teams for the first 20 minutes then we are definitely in with a chance, and we did exactly that against Sweden, and we did a great job against England unfortunately it did not work out, that’s basically it, just hold and after that we start going?

SW: So what were your instructions going in, at one point you came in when we had lost a defender, so what were your instructions when he put you into the game?

CG:  Just to go out there and basically use my speed to take on players, nothing much, a few defensive responsibilities, but not a whole lot

SW:  One of the hottest topics coming out of this world cup was Latapy and his playing time.  If you were coach would you have played him more?

CG:  If I was coach, probably yes, probably no, the first two games were real fast for a guy 37 years old, you have to understand what the coach is thinking and where he is coming from and what he is thinking.  I definitely thought he could have gotten some more time in the Paraguay game, seeing as how that game was much slower than the first two games.

SW:  How are things with you and the coach, you guys have a good relationship?

CG:  yeah yeah we have a good relationship, we had a few problems during the Gold Cup that’s why I was not on the team for a while, he called me back for the Bahrain game, and we had a meeting we sat down and talked and worked everything out.  I thanked him for opportunity he gave me, because a lot of folks wasn’t really looking out for me to go out and play and perform as I did.

SW:  Were you able to exchange jerseys with any of the other players? Who with?

CG:  I got a chance to exchange in the Sweden and the England game.  I exchanged with the defender Lucic from Sweden and Lampard from England.

SW:  Apart from the 3 games you played in Germany you guys been together for about 6 week, what that experience like the different countries, being with the team?

CG:  Good, good, as I told some reporters over there, it’s the best dressing room you could ever be in.  A great bunch of guys. A whole lot of fun.

SW:  What are the future plans for Cornell Glen?  Hoping to move to another league? Any interested parties as of yet?  Where would you like to go (League or Team)?

CG:  right now the future plans are to go back to LA, work on my knee and try to recover as soon as possible. Offers, you know will be coming, after performing this good on a world cup stage, they will be coming. But I am contracted with LA and thats my first priority right now is to try and get back to the club and try and get fit.

SW:  How have they been doing in your absence, I know they had a few guys out for the World Cup?
CG:  Not too good not too good, they had 3 guys, myself Landon and Chris Albright.  The last game they won was the last game I played so they lost like 7 or 8 straight, so not too well.

SW:  What do you think about the future of Trinidad football for 2010?  Would you like Beenhacker to stay?

CG:  Definitely, we have a bunch of good youths. Myself, Spann, Chris Birchall, I can good on and one, and its looking even better now that it looks like the coach will be back.

SW:  Who was your favorite team growing up, who are you backing now in the World Cup? Who do you think will win?

CG:  When I was younger I backed who was winning, so Chelsea was my team.  For this World Cup I think Germany can win it all.

SW:  OK last question, If you were not playing professional football what would you be doing?

CG:  I have always been interested in art, so I would probably be an artist.

Thank You...
Cornell Glen.

Note: On behalf of the Soca Warriors Online I just what to say Thank You to Mr. Cornell Glen for taking the time to do this interview for us. Please keep up the great work you are doing and we all wish you all the best for the future of T&T football...

05-Jul-2006.

2006 World Cup - Germany / Beenhakker tired of England hype
« on: May 29, 2006, 08:52:09 AM »
Beenhakker tired of England hype

Trinidad and Tobago coach Leo Beenhakker has taunted World Cup Group B opponents England by insisting they always flop at major championships.
Beenhakker said: "All I see with my eyes wide open is a team that doesn't perform when it comes to the World Cup and the European Championships.

"England have fantastic players, one of the strongest leagues in the world and a population of 50 million.

"These guys should be prepared for everything but they never win."

Beenhakker told the Sunday Mirror: "England are one of the favourites for the World Cup because of the talents they have but they have to show it."

The Dutchman also insists he won't worry about facing Sven-Goran Eriksson's men until his side have first taken on Sweden in their opening match in Germany.

Trinidad face the Swedes in Dortmund on 10 June before facing England in Nuremberg five days later.

Beenhakker said: "I can't think of England now although it is all I hear - England, England, all the time.

"We must stay focused on Sweden. England comes later, and I know we will be better by then."

Beenhakker admitted, however, that his side still has "a lot of work to do" before they get to the World Cup finals.

He saw his team lose to Wales 2-1 in a World Cup warm-up game in Graz, Austria and said: "There is a big difference between preparation games and competitive ones.

"We are at a certain stage of our planning and are two weeks away from our objective."
