PESSOTTO IN POSSIBLE SUICIDE BID

Italy's players have paid tribute to Juventus' new team manager Gianluca Pessotto after he was rushed to hospital following a fall from a window at the club's headquarters in Turin.

The 35-year-old former Juventus player fell from the top floor of the building, hitting two parked cars before landing on the ground.

He has sustained multiple fractures, but is not believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

Reports say Pessotto threw himself off the balcony on the second floor while holding a rosary in his hands. Police are investigating it as a possible suicide attempt.

The Italy squad is in Germany preparing for a World Cup quarter-final match against Ukraine and defender Marco Materazzi issued a few words on behalf of the team.

"I am shocked, he is a friend of ours," Materazzi said.

"A lot of us have played with him in the national team. We saw him the other day as he had come to watch us play against the Czech Republic.

"I and the rest of my colleagues here hope that he can recover as soon as possible. We Azzurri are close to him."

Fabio Cannavaro, a former team-mate of Pessotto's at Juventus, left an Italy press conference on Tuesday afternoon after being told of the incident, describing him as "the best man in the world".

Juventus chief press officer Marco Girotto was also shocked by events, and told www.gazzetta.it: "We don't know how this has happened. We'll see.

"Gianluca reportedly has multiple fractures but they are not life threatening."

Pessotto ended his playing career at the end of last season to take on a new role as Juve's team manager on May 27.

He began his footballing career in the AC Milan youth team before moving north of the city to join fourth division side Varese in 1989.

A move to Massese in the following year took him up a division and into the spotlight of Bologna, who gave him his Serie B bow in 1992.

After a spell with Hellas Verona, his Serie A career began with Torino in 1994 for whom he made 32 appearances before crossing the city to join Juventus.

He won six Serie A titles with the Bianconeri and one Champions League trophy in his first season.

He was also capped 22 times by the Azzurri and appeared at both the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Talking about the right man on the right place at the right time
What I miss is a big BIG UP for mr. Warner.
He is a genius.
The man knew that Beenhakker would be a good fit.
I knew this board a few years before that, but only after the assignement it stroke me what a genius move it was to hire Beenie man for this job and I created an account and submitted a post to boost moral a bit. Then I got some virus and became soca warrior ;D
I still can't come up with a better fitting coach for TnT in these last hurricane months.
Great also how Beenie man quickly created his team with their Rotterdams "no words but deeds attitude" (Geen woorden maar daden). ( the credo for the city & club)

I hope mexico will wake up now and do a lot better then they did against Holland in the friendly.
It's very important for concacaf position, I think.
Further I don't like that Cocacola listing like if they & the USA are top of the world, it only shows what  a bullshit list it is and when they fall they fall harder.

Football / Hans Hagelstein is the new Dutchman
« on: December 19, 2005, 10:56:21 PM »
( news from saturday)

The man is going to do logistics, he will be resposible for that.
Beenhakker knows him from his time at feyenoord.

Further he has asked permission to feyenoord (his employer) first, he is alo looking forward to his new temp ? assignment.

At least this man should know if Diego Biseswar also holds T&T nationality ?, so far I have heared Biseswar is surinam dutch.

Hagelstein teammanager Trinidad & Tobago

Football / FYI Guzman & WC
« on: December 17, 2005, 10:42:19 AM »
Jonathan de Guzman of Toronto has been turning heads in Europe since September, when he turned 18 and became eligible to play first-division soccer in the Netherlands.

He has scored four goals and added three assists as a midfielder with Feyenoord Rotterdam, which is in a three-way battle for first place with PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar.

Now, he's the focus of an emerging tug of war between Canada and the Netherlands. Both countries desperately want him to play for their national team.

"Canada or Holland could ask me right now to play for them, but I am just concentrating on playing with Feyenoord right now," de Guzman recently told The Globe and Mail. "I haven't made a choice to play for Canada or Holland and still have a lot of time to think about that. It is my dream to make sure Feyenoord become champions, and I want to make that happen first."

De Guzman was born in the Toronto neighbourhood of Scarborough, but has spent the past four years at Feyenoord and may soon obtain his Dutch citizenship, which would make him eligible to play for either country. Once a soccer player decides to play for a country, he or she is bound to that country forever.

The situation isn't new to Canadian soccer fans. Owen Hargreaves left his home in Calgary for the German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich at 16, after being cut from a Canadian national youth team. He then created a storm of controversy when he elected to join England's World Cup program in 2001, despite attempts by former Canadian World Cup coach Holger Osieck to persuade him to represent the country where he was born.

But even Hargreaves can't work the same magic or score goals at the same pace as de Guzman.

On Dec. 3, de Guzman's 72nd-minute goal against RBC Roosendaal gave his team a 2-2 come-from-behind tie, and last weekend in a defensive role, he shut down Dutch World Cup legend Phillip Cocu of PSV Eindhoven. Cocu and PSV had pressed for a late equalizer, but Feyenoord prevailed 1-0, and the legend was visibly shaken after the match.

"[De Guzman] is definitely a huge talent that would make us better immediately," Canadian under-20 team coach Dale Mitchell said. "But at the same time, we don't want to heap any undo pressure onto the boy and his family. In the end, it's a decision for Jonathan and his family to make, but there is no secret as to how we feel about him."

The Netherlands is a perennial World Cup powerhouse. Canada, on the other hand, will miss out on the World Cup for the fifth consecutive time.

Julian de Guzman Sr., Jonathan's father, said his son was overlooked by Canadian coaching staff. The Hargreaves camp has made similar complaints.

Jonathan has a 24-year-old brother, Julian Jr., who became the first Canadian to play in the Spanish first division when he suited up for Deportivo La Coruna on Sept. 21. Julian is a star with Canada's struggling World Cup team, ranked 85th in the world.

"[Having two boys play professionally in Europe] hasn't sunk in yet," Julian Sr. said. "Now, everyone is beginning to see what I'm talking about. I am not just some crazy soccer dad."

Mitchell hopes to have the younger de Guzman on the Canadian team when it plays host to the 2007 world youth championships in Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.

There are few Canadians who have made it to soccer's elite divisions and teams over the years. Aside from Hargreaves, Paul Stalteri of Brampton, Ont., is a starting defender with the Tottenham Hotspur in England, and Thomasz Radzinski of Toronto plays with rival Fulham.

Julian Jr. said he talks by telephone to his younger brother almost every day, but insists neither he nor anyone can push Jonathon into making up his mind whether to play for the Netherlands.

"Between Julian and myself, we don't push Jonathan in one direction or another," their father said. "He is a proud Canadian who would love to represent Canada, but how much sacrifice can you make for your country when you could have a chance to win the World Cup for Holland and participate in it."

Football / Brazil wary of 'physical' Socceroos
« on: December 10, 2005, 11:32:39 PM »
Interesting from http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,17527544%255E601,00.html

December 10, 2005

AUSTRALIA'S old reputation as a bash-and-crash team dies hard, with Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira set to caution his players against the Socceroos' physical approach.

World No.1 and defending champion Brazil drew Australia, Croatia and Japan in Group F for next year's first round matches and Parreira said his team's class may be negated by their opponents' physical edge.

Australia and Japan will have the advantage of playing the Asian Nations Cup ahead of the World Cup while Brazil has only friendly opportunities – something that was playing on Parreira's mind immediately after the draw.

"(Asian teams) are not naive teams anymore – they have been around in World Cups, so they know what they're doing there," Parreira said.

"They have a better preparation than anyone because they have the Asian competition, which nobody else has.

"They'll have six or seven games before the World Cup, but Brazil and the other teams will have only one game.

"This group is very tough from a physical point of view.

"There is good marking and good speed from Japan and Croatia and especially from Australia.

"Australia are a very physical team and we have to take care about this."

Unfortunately for Australia, it will not be able to catch Brazil cold in the first game as the South Americans' first group game is against Croatia, which should blow out any cobwebs ahead of the clash with the Socceroos.

"All eyes will be on Brazil and there is always a lot of pressure, but hopefully you'll see us winning the first game and this will enable us to go ahead and take one of the two positions in the group," Parreira said.

"Brazil has never played Croatia before in a World Cup, Brazil has never played Japan before in a World Cup and Brazil has never played Australia in a World Cup, so it's a different situation – it's three newcomers in the World Cup for us."

Croatian coach Zlatko Kranjcar was aware of the shared heritage between Australia and his nation – his centre-back Josip Simunic was schooled at the Australian Institute of Sport and played for Melbourne Knights, while Socceroo captain Mark Viduka and five fellow Socceroos have Croatian heritage.

"If they choose which national team to play for, then they play for that national team," Kranjcar said.

"When we play them, we will show them respect, but we expect them to show us respect as well."

2006 World Cup - Germany / if you are on a budget
« on: December 10, 2005, 08:20:35 PM »
Just wanted to let you know that Germany is the best country in the entire world when it comes to hitchhiking.

So if your on a thight budget or you just want to travel real fast, like 200km on the autobahn ( yes even the newest german BMW's or Porche's do take hich hikers) then you can do just that.
I have only done this twice some good years ago, but I can asure you, its just amazing how kind they really are. ( I even skiped the trucks and went straight for the fast cars ;))
Of course it will be even easier in direction of big Cities ( Franfurt etc) & split up in groups of 2. Also make sure you get out ONLY at these highway gas stations/rest places and also be a bit blunt and just ask people at these highway stops, Is your german bad you can make a little board with the city name.

btw forget the cars with guys in green suits, they are the police and if they hear your coming from A'dam a total pain in the butt. ''Ha A'dam.. has du hash mitgenomen & warum nicht, that kind of wise guys" ;)

Football / Poll which player you think will be the best Rookie of 2006 WC ?
« on: December 10, 2005, 06:43:16 AM »
Just a poll,

June 2006 is still far away.
Which player do you think will be the best Rookie of WC 2006 ?
I don't follow all regions but what I think we can expect killer movements from:

1 MESSI,
2 TOTI, Zlatan, Robben, brotherstwist Kalou's ( Ivory & perhaps Holland)
Raúl, van Persie, Rooney,
4 Kezman & Larrson, Birchall ?

who do you think, remember we talking june 2006 so there is time for development.

17
Football / what about the other teams ?
« on: December 09, 2005, 05:51:12 PM »
ok Germany & Brazil has it easy on paper.
But look at the Aussies, they have a good change for Runner up.
And if they are they might get a tired Italy against them.
hmm Would Hiddink kick out Italy again ?

England will most likely pass to the next round and meet Poland ?
Thats looks like promising, if not they might get Germany... could be worse.

Holland man we get it real HARD, isn't Ivory coast the best team from Africa ?
And then MESSI , but thanks god it's the last match we play Argentina. Perhaps we both just need a draw. They must fear us too. And if we win I think there is almost no nicer shirt to change with.

France I don't think they have it easy , switserland is hard to beat ( I think)

Spain has it really nice this time.

And the winner is: Puma - with 11 World Cup teams
monstersandcritics.com

nice article  so how much $$  is T&T getting from adidas ?

Herzogenaurach, Germany - With the full World Cup field now deterimined one winner can already be declared - Puma, which equip 11 of the 32 teams to play at the finals in Germany next year.

Puma have a surprisingly big advantage over main rivals Nike and Adidas, who will have eight and six teams present.

However, Adidas at least were quite unlucky.

\'Unfortunately some didn\'t qualify,\' said spokeswoman Anne Putz in reference to the misses of Euro 2004 champions Greece, Nigeria, 2010 hosts South Africa and China against the odds.

But Adidas boast hosts Germany, title contenders Argentina, France, Spain, Japan and newcomers Trinidad and Tobago.

Even more important, Adidas are an official World Cup sponsor and the only one of the big three companies to be present at all matches. Adidas also provide the World Cup ball.

\'The World Cup will be a huge event for us, regardless of the number of teams we equip,\' said Putz.

Putz said her company was represented well in major markets sich as Germany, France and Spain. Adidas hopes to sell 500,000 Germany jerseys alone - more than double the amount from the 2002 edition.

Local rivals Puma are delighted as well after the Czech Republic and Switzerland brought them to double digits as far as teams are concerned.

Puma have a traditionally strong base in Africa, equipping four of the five teams from the continent: Tunisia, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo.

Three-time World Cup winners are the Puma top team, with Poland, Paraguay, Iran and Saudi Arabia comleting the 11.

\'African football stands for creativity and is an important part of our campaign,\' said spokesman Ulf Santjer, adding that Puma plan the \'biggest marketing campaign in company history\' around the World Cup.

The U.S. giants Nike, for their part, co-operate with the strong Dutch, Portugal, Croatia, the U.S., Mexico, South Korea and Australia, but nothing rivals their deal with record champions and holders Brazil.

\'Brazil stand for the dream of brilliant football and are the only team with huge potential outside the country,\' said spokesman Olaf Markhoff from Nike Germany.

Markhoff said his outfit is very pleased with the number of teams and is already observing a rise in football goods sales.

England and Sweden, meanwhile, play with Umbro equipment while the other five teams are yet to finalise deals.

In addition to teams, Adidas can boast that England captain David Beckham, team-mate Frank Lampard, Dutchman Arjen Robben, Brazil\'s Caca and Italian veteran Alessandro del Piero will be wearing their boots even though they wear clothes from other outfits.

Nike plan a big campaign with their major individual signings Ronaldinho (Brazil), Thierry Henry (France) and Wayne Rooney (England).

The World Cup sees free choice of boots for all players, although there is one exception - hosts Germany being all-Adidas from head to toe.

SIX-MONTH BAN FOR VUCICEVIC

1860 Munich midfielder Nemanja Vucicevic has been handed a six-month ban by the disciplinary committee of the German Football Association (DFB) after he tested positive for a banned substance last month.

On November 4, the 26-year-old tested positive for the substance Finasterid, which has been banned since January this year, although he maintains his innocence.

He claims it was included in a beauty product he had been using.

"I just thought about my hair and not to try and improve my performance," he said after admitting to using the hair growth aid Propecia.

Wacker Burghausen, the club 1860 defeated 2-0 in the German second division when the test was made, have appealed the result and their claim is yet to be heard by the DFB.

But while 1860 believe the sentence is too heavy and have promised to appeal, the DFB have defended their decision.

"It may be seen as a bit harsh, but we have to follow the conditions set out by FIFA," said disciplinary commission judge Hans-Hermann Menzel.

Just want to let you all know that I think your PAN man are going to be real hot in Germany.

Pan is really not so know yet in Deutsland  & I truely believe the Germans & other Europeans will love it.
So if you find tickets for WC expensive and you can play then convince your bandleader to go Germany & combine some work with a holiday.
You could travel a month earlier and play in A'dam Copenhagen Paris Germany Barcelona all over Europe etc.
You could even tour with 2 or 3 bands and do live battle's or so, if needed I can help establishing some contacts here in A'dam. Just be smart and be the first to book concerts I would say.
I'm not joking btw.

A lot has to change in terms of infrastructure, we want to prepare good...

Football / there goes your 1st. prediction mr. Fonz Thomas ( goal.com)
« on: November 16, 2005, 06:59:36 AM »
hmm, you predicted Uruguay to win, let me see what you had to say about T&T. :rotfl:
JACKass  ;D

From South America we have Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay and unless a miracle happens, Uruguay. The Australians are going to find it near impossible to beat Uruguay in Montevideo, and with Diego Forlan in the form of his life and with a certain individual called Recoba who was once the highest-paid professional footballer in the world it would be only a stupid man who would bet on Australia. Ecuador and Paraguay cannot be expected to make it beyond the preliminary stages. Uruguay is definitely not a pushover and can be expected to pull off a couple of stunners but that is all. That leaves Brazil and Argentina in the reckoning. The once mighty Argentines have since faded into oblivion, merely content with trying to beat Brazil in World Cup qualifiers and in the Copa America. They don’t have the defense or the forwards to pose any serious threat and a quarter-final berth would be an apt reward. Finally we have the mighty Brazilians with an outstanding goalkeeper, excellent midfield and some heavenly forwards. The only Achilles’ heel they have is the defense, which was exploited time and again in the last World Cup. The bright point though is that the forwards have what it takes to score twice as many as the defense might concede. Though the likes of Cicinho, Belletti, Lucio and Carlos may not be Maldinis, you have to remember that there is only one Maldini and I believe that among the qualifiers only England and Italy have a better defense than Brazil.

From Asia the following countries have qualified, Iran, Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia and most probably Bahrain. It would be a major upset if Bahrain somehow manages to lose against Trinidad and Tobago. This is the contingent to watch out for and each country is capable of beating the best on their day. The weaker countries appear to be Japan, South Korea and Bahrain and I don’t see them make it beyond the Preliminaries or the pre-quarterfinals. Saudi Arabia has always been outstanding in qualifiers but has always managed to fizzle out at the World Cup and it cannot be any better this time around. The team to watch out for is, however, Iran, with their highly talented squad many of whom ply their trade in the Bundesliga, and it would not be shocking if they do manage to pull off a couple of major upsets along the way.

Among the African countries there is Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Tunisia and Angola. Togo, Tunisia and Angola are expected to simply make up the numbers and even Ivory Coast - with the likes of Toure and Drogba - may not present any major challenge to any of the potential winners. The teams to watch out for are the Ghanaians and they could pull off a couple of surprises on the lines of Senegal in the last World Cup.

Lastly there is the Concacaf with USA, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago if miracles still happen.

Football / Interview Beenhakker & Hislop dutch newspaper
« on: November 16, 2005, 03:34:19 AM »
Important points:

Gave a ''high 5" to Luka Peruzovic :) ( at press conference)
Says seen it, done it I'm 63 after 40 years in the game I'm not going to get red spots in my neck.
I do this job for the fun and pleasure it gives, it's no obsession but it would be VERY nice to be at the WC.
These are the best moments for a coach, the adrenaline goes through your body. Now it counts.

Beenhakker has spend a lot of time talking to the stars ( Yorke,Russel & Stern)
They need to make the difference for us, what they had lacked in the first leg.
(Talking to them) It is the only way to bring back the confidence they need.

Interviewer goes on  talking to Shaka,

Shaka very happy with Beenhakker & Wim and Theo.
Whatever will happen these men have put a foundation for (T&T football)  the coming years.
So professionals, in fact Beenhakker has done everything that a player can wish for.
Yorke says the same... Its fantastic what the dutch staff have done, we raise from the dead, after 3 games we had only 1 point.
Beenhakker: Look it is a miracle we got this far, we never have counted to reach this far, but now that we are standing before the gate we want to go through it very much.

Uzbekistan may join UEFA

Uzbekistan may apply to join European football's governing body UEFA after what the Central Asian state called an unjust decision robbed it of a chance of reaching the World Cup finals.

"We, in Uzbekistan, always wanted to be a part of UEFA and after the latest events this process will certainly gain a new momentum," Alisher Nikimbayev, a senior official in the Uzbekistan Football Federation, told Reuters in an interview.

"What FIFA had done to us in regards of replaying our qualifier with Bahrain was very unjust. We feel very strongly about that."

Uzbekistan beat Bahrain 1-0 in the first leg of their Asian Zone World Cup qualifier play-off in Tashkent on September 3 but FIFA cancelled the result and ordered a replay following a mistake by Japanese referee Toshimitsu Yoshida.

FIFA, world football's ruling body, ruled that Yoshida had made a technical error in disallowing a converted Uzbekistan penalty and awarding Bahrain a free kick.

The two sides drew 1-1 in a rescheduled match on October 8 before Bahrain held the Uzbeks 0-0 in the second leg in Manama four days later to advance on the away goal rule.

"We have been robbed," Nikimbayev said. "First, we were robbed of a penalty, then they wiped away our 1-0 win which would have been enough for us to reach the play-off."

"Not a single person in the whole stadium understood what happened after the ref disallowed the penalty."

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) suspended Yoshida indefinitely for his blunder.

"We feel sorry for Uzbekistan because they have been doubly punished, once for the penalty incident and then for having to replay the match they won," said AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam.

Nikimbayev pointed the finger at FIFA for insisting on the replay. "Unfortunately, we don't have enough proof to say that FIFA would rather see a rich Arab state like Bahrain play in the World Cup than having us there," he said.

"For us it was the biggest chance to play in the World Cup finals and probably the last one in many years to come."

"I don't think we would get another chance like that for many years because most of our top senior players, back from the Soviet days, will now retire and it would take years before we could produce a new crop of good young players."

Bahrain face CONCACAF's Trinidad & Tobago in another play-off next month and the winner will advance to next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Nikimbayev said Uzbek football would greatly benefit from joining UEFA.

"It would be a tremendous opportunity. We could raise our game to a new level," he said.

"Playing in the (European) Champions League would be a great boost for our game and would benefit us financially."

"All our fans would love it. Just imagine having Real Madrid, Chelsea or Man United come here."

Nisimbayev said geography should not be a problem, pointing to their Central Asian neighbours Kazakhstan and Australia as examples. "If Australians can join the Asian confederation and Kazakhstan become a UEFA member why not us?"

Kazakhstan became the newest member of UEFA in 2002 while FIFA's executive committee approved Australia's move from the Oceania confederation to the AFC earlier this year. Israel, once a AFC member, has also been playing in Europe for a long time.

Nisimbayev said it was a political decision to join the AFC.

"Right after the Soviet break-up we had a choice of joining either UEFA or AFC," he said.

"I remember (UEFA president Lennart) Johansson invited all 15 former Soviet republics to join UEFA way back in 1992."

"Uzbek soccer officials wanted it, our fans wanted it but we just couldn't convince our politicians back then," he added.

"Well, maybe now is a good time to have this issue settled."

http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/28334401/Tropenkolder_op_Trinidad.html ( in dutch)

Anyway everyone here wants you to make it, Bahrain shouldn't even have been your opponement.
So set it straight again or we might as well get a monopoly extension in new football console games....
now that would be real boring.
All this cause Ozbekistan is so poor and on top they gave an opportunity to get screwed.
