Football / Keane Interested In Rossi Loan - Report
« on: June 18, 2007, 01:55:29 PM »
From goal.com

According to the Daily Mail, former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane wants to bring Guiseppe Rossi to Sunderland.

However, he is not considering a full transfer, rather banking on convincing Sir Alex Ferguson to send the Italian under-21 international on a season long loan.

Rossi has admitted his desire to prove himself at United, but whether or not he stays could depend on the future of Alan Smith, and on whether Ferguson signs another striker.

Parma are also keen to keep him, but the fact that the Red Devils would rather the youngster picked up some valuable Premiership experience, is what could put Sunderland in pole position.

The same report suggests that Keane also wants to land Chelsea's Geremi, and is set to move for Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, who has turned down a new contract at Bolton.

A Ł3.2million offer for the goalkeeper is said to be in the pipeline. However, the real coup will be if the Irishman can land Rossi on loan!

FIFA Executive Committee member admits illegal ticket sale

FIFA Executive Committee member Ismail Bhamjee (Botswana) confirmed today in a written statement that he has sold 2006 FIFA World Cup tickets for triple the amount of the face value.
As an immediate reaction to this behaviour, FIFA's Emergency Committee under the chairmanship of President Blatter decided that Mr. Bhamjee had to immediately resign from all FIFA World Cup-related duties and leave Germany at the earliest possible moment.

FIFA President Blatter stated: "I am very disappointed about the conduct of a member of the FIFA Executive Committee. In such a situation, FIFA acts immediately and firmly, also in line with the decisions taken at the Congress in Munich on 7 and 8 June."

FIFA has been informed and subsequently been presented with evidence today in Berlin by a reporter of the British Mail on Sunday newspaper about the above mentioned fact.

Ismail Bhamjee admitted to the above and signed the following declaration:

"I, Ismail Bhamjee, Member of the FIFA Executive Committee, hereby confirm the fact that I have sold on 12 CAT 1 tickets of the 2006 FIFA World Cup match England - Trinidad & Tobago (played on 15 June in Nuremberg) for EUR 300 each, i.e. EUR 200 above face value (EUR 100) for each ticket.

I deeply regret this incorrect act and apologize to FIFA for violating the relevant Terms & Conditions governing the sale of tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup."

Football / Sydney Star Urges Club to Keep 'Bling'- from goal.com
« on: March 08, 2006, 10:37:51 AM »
Sydney FC winger David Carney has pleaded with the club not to lose its ‘bling’ by allowing star player Dwight Yorke and coach Pierre Littbarski leave the newly-crowned Australian champions
It is unclear if the high-profile duo will stay down under especially as the club could save a considerable sum in wages if they depart but Carney, who has impressed this season and made his debut for the national team last month in the 3-1 win in Bahrain, hopes Yorke and Littbarski stay.

"They are the ones who put the bling into Sydney -- and if they go we might not be the bling club any more. I really hope they stay. Pierre's a great coach and Dwight's still sheer quality." The former Everton player told the Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.

The player also stated that he could be about to join a leading English championship side on loan in order to keep sharp for Germany 2006.

In a follow up to yesterday’s news, Michael Ballack is denying reports out of England that he will move to Chelsea this summer. Reportedly, the Blues would make Ballack the richest player in the world with the transfer from Bayern Munich.

As teams ready themselves for the World Cup, there are a slew of friendly matches today. The U.S. face Poland in Germany, while Mexico face Ghana in Texas. Brazil battle Russia, England square off against Uruguay at Anfield. The highlight of the day pits World Cup hosts Germany against Italy in Florence.

Yesterday’s friendly action saw Japan tie Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-2 while Trinidad & Tobago beat Iceland behind two goals from Dwight Yorke. Remember who told you so when T&T surprises people in Germany!
With the departure of Florentino Perez, property magnate Fernando Martin Alvarez was unanimously chosen to lead the Galacticos. According to Raul, Alvarez’s first move should be making the term “galacticos” disappear, as he feels it has caused the team more problems than anything else.

Real Zaragosa have been fined 9,000 Euros by the Spanish Football Federation for the racist taunts directed toward Barca striker Samuel Eto’o during Saturday’s match. Seems a little weak to the Nooner. Maybe have them fork over more than their lunch money next time.

The Sven Sage Part Two: The Case for the Prosecution

In response to Mike Olford's case for the defence of Sven-Goran Eriksson, Martin Barraclough argues that the Swede’s departure from the England hot-seat was long overdue.

Sven-Goran Eriksson finally succumbed to the ever-increasing pressure on his shoulders last week by deciding to resign from the England mangers position after the World Cup.

The final straw in a long line of problems came from an English newspaper who claimed Eriksson had suggested there was corruption in the English game as well as admitting he would be interested in managing Aston Villa and was planning to leave in the summer anyway if England won the World Cup.

Since Eriksson became England’s first ever foreign coach following Kevin Keegan’s resignation in 2001 he has been guilty of numerous off-the-field misdemeanours which have brought shame and embarrassment upon the FA and the national team.

Preparations for the 2002 World Cup were disrupted with news of his affair with fellow Swede Ulrika Jonsson and on the pitch England threw away a brilliant chance to reach the Semi-Finals of the tournament when they went down 2-1 to ten-man Brazil in Shizuoka.

The following year brought more controversy for Eriksson after he met with the then new owner of Chelsea Roman Abramovich allegedly discussing a possible role at the Bridge.  In 2003 England also lost 3-1 to Australia in a friendly at Upton Park, with Eriksson bizarrely substituting the entire team at half time.

Eriksson agreed a lucrative contract extension with England in 2004 despite again meeting Chelsea representatives.  Euro 2004 ended with penalty shoot-out despair against Portugal and that tournament was followed by news of an affair with FA employee Faria Alam (for which he was later cleared of misconduct by the FA).

The results against Germany and Argentina were certainly highlights of the Swedes tenure, but passion and creativity have all too often been lacking from performances when England really should have done more.  The shambolic defeat against Northern Ireland in which Eriksson deployed a five man midfield against one of the world game’s weaker outfits baffled many and England also produced shocking displays against Denmark and Spain amongst others in friendlies.

Eriksson has done the sensible thing in offering his resignation following five years of living off one great result against Germany.  His antics off the field have brought shame on the English game and the FA should have sacked him a long time ago rather than rewarding his disloyalty with a whopping pay rise.

His motivational skills have been criticised by past players and he has obviously always lacked the patriotism that this role should involve.  England have got a great chance in the World Cup, but if the three lions win the competition it will down to the fact they have some world class players rather than anything Eriksson does.

Sven, thanks for the 5-1, but it’s time to hand back the reigns to an Englishman.

Martin Barraclough

Eriksson toes party line in plea for extra tickets
By Ashling O’Connor

SVEN-GÖRAN ERIKSSON will usually opt for diplomacy rather than confrontation, but the England head coach chose the polished and stately surroundings of the German Embassy in London yesterday to request, pointedly, that the country’s supporters get more tickets at the World Cup finals.

At least the Swede was aware enough of international traditions at this time of year to start by complimenting Thomas Matussek, the German Ambassador, on his Christmas tree. After the pleasantries, though, his message was delivered loud and clear: an allocation of about 3,000 tickets per group match was unsatisfactory when 100,000 England fans were expected to travel to Germany.

"It will be a big party for one month," Eriksson told the throng of German tourist industry executives. "You will see a lot of English people in Germany next summer. What we need is more tickets, because I think there will be more English people than from any other country."

Although they were able to secure the services of Franz Beckenbauer, the president of the World Cup organising committee, for their promotional video, it is debatable whether the people from Bavaria Tourism have any influence on the allocation of match tickets. The German Ambassador to the UK might, however, and it appeared to be Eriksson’s intention simply to repeat a point made many times by the FA in the past few days, but one that has more impact coming from the England head coach.

One person with influence on the situation is Sepp Blatter, the president of Fifa. Eriksson will not miss an opportunity to raise the subject. "If I bump into him in a corridor somewhere I will ask him to listen to the pleas from the FA and give England and our fans more tickets if he can," he said.

As it stands, the only way that the FA will receive more than its 8 per cent allocation is through returns from England’s group-stage opponents. Paraguay are unlikely to take a large contingent of fans to Frankfurt for the first match, but Trinidad & Tobago may rally enthusiasm from all over the world to take up most of their allocation in Nuremberg. Sweden are always well supported, so returns are not expected for the final group game, in Cologne.

Finding tickets outside the official FA channels is a lottery. World Cup organisers yesterday revealed that one million were ordered within 12 hours of going on sale on Monday, with 90 per cent of the demand coming from Europe. With tickets four times oversubscribed, a ballot will be held on January 31.

While the lobbying for more tickets continues, Eriksson is focused on what the fans can expect to see if they can get into the stadiums. There are unlikely to be many surprises, but at least three places in his squad are up for grabs.

"I will be looking at the form of the players and what positions they are playing in. I learn from every match I see," Eriksson said. "I’m very open-minded and what is important is that I pick the 23 best players in the middle of May, when the league is finished and you balance up how many games they’ve played and what is the best. I can’t decide that today.

"At least 20 [could be picked now]. Then I have to start thinking harder. I was very happy to see Jermain Defoe score the goal he did for Tottenham on Monday night, coming on and scoring like that. You look at Wayne Bridge and question how many games he will have for Chelsea, likewise Kieran Richardson at Manchester United. There’s plenty to think about."

Football / FAITHFULLISTA ARISE!!!!!
« on: November 13, 2005, 10:17:17 AM »
First of all we play real shit..We start to hit real long ball, no cohesion in midfield and most importantly Latapy decided not to show up. In essence we choke!!! we big players choke....
Bahrain showed us just how dangerous they are. although they lack technical ability and that was very evident they defend innumbers and are very fast and dangerous.
BUT
That result is not going to happen again.
Those guys know what to expect now. They will step up and this will be known as november 16th the most infamous day in bahrainese football. Also in the history of this campaign since beenie took over WE HAVE NOT HAD TWO BAD GAMES IN A ROW.
So although most men dissapoointed and nervous I urge you all to remember is 90 minutes to go and our backs against the wall. In in typical trini fashion, thats how we like it.
SO CALLING ALL TRUE SUPPORTERS !!!! This is the time when your team needs you most.

« on: July 07, 2005, 07:51:51 AM »
My God, after a couple weeks training, you telling me you will be bun in the first ten minutes? And if yuh justifying yourself as a positional striker yuh cant even score the goal when yuh get the chance...I will say this however, although this is the Gold Cup, I think beenie using this as "practice" for the World Cup qualifiers, because no rational coach wouldah start Cyd Gray in the back there.
Anyways, my eye ws on stern for most of the match, and the mand must be make two sprint for the whole match..waste of time, right now he unimpressive for the last 4 -5 games, He shouldnt even be in the 18....

After watching Mexico play against Argentina and Brazil, I think they are based on current form, in the top 3 in the world. Any thoughts?
