Football / Keane on Yorke
« on: September 26, 2008, 05:13:09 AM »
Just watching Sky Sport news. Keane was on giving his blessing to Yorke coming to play for T&T. He said his only issue with Yorke last time, was him playing two games so close together. Still don't understand why that is such a major issue as he is yet to play the essential Yorkie in any meaningful games. He said there is no problem between them at present and what went on a few weeks ago is now settled. Also stated he thinks Dwight is due to play three games this time for T&T but he dosen't believe Yorke can cope with that kind of workload at this stage in his career.

Football / Stern/Southampton under big pressure tonight
« on: April 28, 2008, 02:37:25 PM »
Stern was pretty ineffective tonight, not much service to be fair....big time pressah all game from West Brom. Was 0-0 first half then with 20  mins left in the 2nd half Pearson take off Stern and Saganowski replacing them with Wright-Phillips and an England U-18 international called lalana or something like that......and guess what the fella score bout 4 mins later....West Brom equalise about 10 mins after that and now Southampton desparately holding on.

Football / Opinion on Jason Norville
« on: February 04, 2008, 05:51:47 PM »
I'm sure there was a recent thread on thoughts on some forgotten ex-internationls (including Norville) so just a few thoughts on this (ex-international) Fella fuh those that interested.

Don't know if any of the UK based been watching Setanta One fuh the past few days, but they have shown Woking twice with the 2nd game only finishing about an hour ago. I can see why league clubs have tried him out but also why Norville hasn't really emerged as a player. The man have pretty decent touch and close control, definitely better than the average conference player but dat is it. To be honest, if it was'nt fuh the commentry team pointing him out and saying he was a forward I would have thought he was a central midfielder that did'nt like tracking back...... kind of like Lata's without the ability or vision. Fuh a striker he did not impress me, he didn't score in the two games and I could see why....not much movement off the ball, rarely got into any dangerous striking oppertunities and rarely created openings for himself . This was the first time I'd seen him play in a full game so not wanting to be too unfair I asked meh sis to look at him today as she used to see him play at Watford (mainly for the reserves!). She says he doesn't look like he has gotten worse as a player, just no better. He has had a number of injuries but she says if he has lost any pace or any other physical aspects to his game, its not very noticable....at least that is looking at him playing with conference players.

Anyway, this might be stating the obivious as he playing in the Conference but I can't see him playing again fuh T&T. It's a shame as meh Sis says when he was emerging at Watford he seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. I guess all the injuries have had a Psychological impact on him.

Football / Scotland and Andrews had games today!
« on: January 02, 2007, 04:39:20 PM »
Scotland played the full game fuh St Johnston who one 2-1 over Ross County he played whole game but did'nt score.

Match Report Here: http://www.stjohnstonefc.co.uk/matchreport.asp?ResultID=305

Marvin was again on the bench as Raith lost 1-2 tuh Cowdenbeath. He is not injured, at least the club is not admitting to it. From what I've read many fans are not that bothered that he isn't playing. He has had some quite poor performances apparently. No point in posting a link to the match report as he did'nt play but here is a grainy photo of Dog in his last appearance for Raith - a 0-1 loss to Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup on the 9th of December.

Football / Yorke Interviewed on UK TV last night
« on: November 24, 2006, 08:39:12 AM »
Don't know if any of the UK based saw it. He was interviewed by John Barnes on his Channel 5 show. They had an interview with Didier Drogba first, then Yorke. It was mainly about his time with Sunderland. Not a lot about T&T but in summary here were they main things he talked about. By the way this is what he said....some things could be misinterpreted.

- Main reason he went to Sunderland was because of Roy Keane, he did try to cover himself by saying Sunderland were a big club. He said nothing about being forced out of Sydney just that when Keane called he could not turn the offer down. Most of the interview was about his thoughts on Keane, the teams chances for promotion, the squad etc.

- Barnes asked him if he came back to the UK because he felt he had some points to prove after his unsuccessful stints at Blackburn and Birmingham. Yorke did'nt really answer directly, said he was happy with what he had achieved in his career, achieved more than he dared believe he could have. That his time at Blackburn and Birmingham were tainted by 'Personal Issues', one of which being the death of his sister. Said his mind was'nt truely focused on playing ball during this period.

- Was asked by Barnes about his thoughts on Graham Taylor, a manager who affected both their early careers. Yorke said all the usual glowing things he normally says about Taylor but also said Taylor as well as Bertile St Clair were the ones who convinced him to return to play for T&T. That Taylor had advised him to play and said it was his final chance, that Yorke would regret it if T&T did qualify. Yorke said Bertile took him to see Talyor when on a visit to the UK to convince him to play for T&T. He also said that Taylor was considered to replace Bertile as T&T coach before Leo, did'nt mention why this fell through.

- The expected question about T&T's qualification and his thoughts on it came. The expected responce given with words like great, acheivement, unbelieveable and dreams littered throughout.

- He was asked about his nickname in Sydney 'Allnight Dwight' (or something like that). Yorke said it came from the UK but the Aussie press were no different from their UK collegues. He said he dosen't understand why the nickname follows him as his activities aren't as bad as the nickname suggests.

at the end of the interview the Studio panelists (Barnes, Pat Nevin and some journalist) were glowing in their praise of Yorke. They seemed more pissed than him about his reputation.....said if you ask any Manager who has dealt with Yorke they always say Yorke is the ultimate pro when it comes to training, preparation for a game and keeping himself in shape. Nevin and the journalist said Yorke and Graham kavanagh are by far the class players at Sunderland. The journalist went on to say that Yorke in his new midfield role is too good for the championship. He also mentioned that in Yorke's first press conference at Sunderland he was asked if he and Keane ever socialised...the response - NEVER! Asked if they were friends - question not answered. They had a mutual respect.

was a nice interview, nothing really groundbreaking though.

Football / Question on an old TTT sports show.
« on: November 22, 2006, 08:56:25 AM »
Just had a somewhat suspect flashback but still need to ask a question of those people that watched TTT's 'Sports Sunday' programme in the late 80's early 90's. The one a youthfull Selwyn Melville hosted. In the opening sequence of the show they showed a clip of a fella trying to make a sliding goalmouth clearance at a very wet national stadium ....not only did he fail but also ended up bashing his balls on one of the uprights, though it did cut to another clip just as he was about to connect! That clip never failed to crease me up in more ways than one especially as you could tell the guy knew what was coming but could do nothing about it.

Anyone know who the fella was? heck anyone even remember what I'm talking about. Always thought it was Clayton Morris....as the fella had a band on his wrist like what Morris used to wear.

Football / Anyone else see T&T on the 'Gillette World Cup' Series yet?
« on: March 15, 2006, 08:25:21 AM »
Just saw it on Sky. Had interviews with Dwight Yorke, Chris Birchall, Stern John and Clayton Ince. Stern aint pull no punches man! He say he aint happy with the waggonists who trying to get in the squad and even though he say he aint go name them he made some comments that clearly pointed at Zamora and J'lloyod Samuel. No direct critisism of Beenhakers selection policy though. They show highlights of T&T vs Baharain and vs Mexico. Ince say that is England should be worried and not T&T as everyone expecting England to beat us but they go be the ones in trouble if the result aint favourable. Everyone interviewed was positive and putting across that they getting focused on the task at hand.

Football / Dwight Looking ah bit P*** off recently
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:46:10 PM »
First off, big congratulations to the socawariors on the victory....wish ah could ah gone the game, look like ah nice lime except fuh the freezing weather. Where the BBC capture Dave Lamy from man? I thought he was Sh** when ah live in T&T and he aint done nuttin to change meh mind with todays performance on the mike. He said nothing much of worth during the broadcast.

Anyhow I notice that during the buildup to the game and post game Dwight sounding real angry yes. I think the man genuinely getting cheese orf with all the foreign journalist asking the same damn question. And form the interviews I have seen, seems all people asking the man is "what do you realistically think are T&T's chances in the group stage?", over and over and over again! The man looking fedup, had ah face like death when he get sub too. He only start smiling again when Michael Maurice tell him something at the end of the game.

Have to say I thought the game would be a draw, I was stunned by the way T&T controlled this game and genuinely believe Iceland thought we would be an easy night. Got the impression the BBC commentator was a bit shocked as well. Hope our group opponents approach us the same way Iceland did cause if they do we go be guaranteed a second round spot on tonight's evidence.

Again well done T&T and big props to all the T&T fans who went the game as they made it entertaining both on a nd off the pitch.

Football / Bitterness at Yorke's treatment by Birmingham
« on: December 27, 2005, 07:35:31 PM »
and I aint talking bout the race row.

just saw on Sky that Walter Pandiani leaving Birmingham to return to Spain and play for Espanol. It just make me look back at how Yorke get treated there....though we weren't there first hand to witness what went on in training you have to wonder if Dwight aint get judged more on his rep at the time rather than anything else. I never believed Yorke ever got a fair chance at Brum. Apparently Pandani, Morrison, Heskey, Blake, Forsell and Figueroa (doh think that man ever play!) were all producing the goods way better than Dwight. Yet, only Heskey and Forsell still there. I was just having a look at their records and even Blake (who last almost the same amount of time as Yorke) had more of an oppertunity to play than Dwight. It seems that Dwight started the trend of T&T players being treated shabbily in the UK.

Currently other than Scotland, Samuel and Edwards everyone else career's seem to be either stagnating or going downhill and if you wanted to be brutally honest, only Edwards career is truely improving. I aint including Latas as the direction his career going doh really matter no more. In my memory every single T&T player in the UK has been accused by Fans of being lazy, inconsistent or both. Either UK fans, UK Managers or T&T players simply are unable to learn from previous experience.  I hope all the T&T players careers head in a positive direction in the new year as it can only benefit us for the World Cup.

Football / Comment from Zamora
« on: December 16, 2005, 06:08:29 PM »
was thumbing through this month's West Ham magazine in the shop today and there is a Q&A with Bobby. One of the questions asked if he would reconsider playing for T&T if asked again. He said he had put himself forward but as he had already played ball for the England U-21 team this was not an option.

It was only a Q&A...but the response didn't seem like he was that bothered by 'missing out'.

I know this is old ground and some on the forum believe we should take any player that is elligible once they can prove their worth to the team. Unfortunately, I find it truely distasteful that Zamora and this new fella, Murphy, are/have tried to get in the team when they clearly have no affinity with the team or the country. In Murphy's case, he must think everyone in T&T know nothing about football if he expects to get into the team and yet we listen to his email overtures  >:(  How can a 30 year old man not know his mother has T&T citizenship and somehow she only brings it up when T&T in the World Cup draw? What! She never see 'The news at 10' or watch all them Trini actors (both real and fictional) on Eastenders? That ain't jog her memory? These fellas only in it for their own advancement...at least Birchall, Boucaud, Cox etc came on board when there was no garauntee of any success. I fed up with this...forget about bringing in these kind of people. Concentrate on the T&T US college players and PFL players. Let us concentrate on those who have a genuine desire to play for T&T and not a personal agenda to get some exposure (and a better contract/Club) by playing in a World Cup.

I await the 'Beenie is the coach and go select who he think is best' comments.  :(

Football / Great performance by Andrews tonight in the Champions League
« on: November 23, 2005, 03:47:17 PM »
Final score Porto 1 Rangers 1.

Dog was a rock fellas, especially in the closing stages when Porto were throwing everything at Rangers...nothing new, i.e. he won virtually everthing in the air but had some great saving tackles throughout. I think this was Dog first game back in Europe since he got that massive amount of abuse against that Cypriot team, when the Rangers fans say he wasn't good enough to play on the European stage.  Deserved his place...if he (and the rest of the squad) plays like that fuh T&T in the World Cup we gonna have ah good Tournament.

That is professional eh! The legend grows. But they losing 0-1.

Also I didn't know football focus (BBC programme) had a feature on Birchall last Saturday. Well they had much Congrats for us on the programme today. Not one word about us not deserving to be there or moaning about the amount of lesser nations at the big stage.....very refreshing. Isn't it amazing how attitudes change simply by getting to ah World Cup, we eh even play in it yet.

Football / Latas mind on other things it seems

Falkirk 0-3 Cetic

as per usual the Fellas on Setanta real hype Latas (understandably so), but the man was almost invisible and get sub after 70 mins, He had an ok first 30 mins but then faded out the game, Falkirk went 1-0 down after 40 and 2-0 by the half. The good thing....he aint get injured.  The few times Russell was on the ball you could see he is the class player on the Falkirk team, normally (when I've seen him play) he goes to get the ball when Falkirk win possesion instead of just making himself free for a pass but today there was little of the former, he just didn't get involved in the game.  They even try to put him upfront as a striker but it just wasn't happening. The commentry team said as much and suggested his mind was on the games against Bahrain. Falkirk played pretty well when after he came off but then again Celtic had already won and may have just taken their feet off the gas a bit!

Having said all that ah know he go be ready fuh the Bahrain Boys...what more motivation yuh need than to play in a World Cup!

It may have been posted before, but as a Pres Sando 'old boy' may I just extend congratulations to the current crop for gaining promotion back to the Championship division of the SSFL. :applause: Two seasons in the doldrums of the Senior division (or whatever it called now) was hard to stomach. Also congrats for beating Naps on the weekend, this seems to be an increasingly rare occurance these days. :notworthy:

Now I think I'll actually pay attention to the happenings in the SSFL next season.

Football / Ah want this playoff series over as quickly as possible!!!
« on: October 19, 2005, 02:47:12 PM »
This is the first time I am annoyed by non-T&T posters on this board. Sadly, some of our own are pissing me off as well, ah know we is Trini but we should know by now yuh doh insult Middle eastern people country and culture cause they does get mad-crazy!!! Is not so much about the topics (though some posts are getting unacceptably offensive) it is more the amount of posts saying pretty much the same thing, over and over and over again  ??? Some ah them trying to match AlbertaTrini fuh post tonnage.  I have nothing against Bahrain or its supporters but don't you guys have yuh own supporters site? Yuh could criticise us yuh hearts content overthere, including Jack Warner, but to post critical and abusive posts here and expect to be treated as revered guests.....you must be kidding :rotfl: Its one thing to post on another teams site but if you have no clue about the culture of that nation (especially T&T) I suggest not bothering...cause you WILL BE OFFENDED! I know its not a good thing to mess with people from the Middle East but YOU have come on our site to spout so take yuh knocks and move on brothers.

It is sad that we seem to be stooping to gutter talk, ah just want this tie over and T&T in Germany.  Best of luck to Bahrain.

« on: August 15, 2005, 01:20:03 PM »
Game is 25mins old 0-0 vs (another ex team of Tony Rougier) Brentford. Sam on the bench.

Was listening to a Ranger's TV phone in earlier...fans still slating Andrews as not being European quality, nobody saying comeback Marvin.  The tune has changed though since yesterday, many now think their whole defence is TATA! Only man escaping stick seems to be the new fella Fanfan.  Well, I am a bit biased but I saw that Famagusta game and yes Andrews did play crap but so did the rest of the side.  UK fans are truely a fickle bunch, one day your the best player ever, the next they can't wait tuh see man out the door.

Football / Jason Norville offered a contract at Barnet FC
« on: July 30, 2005, 04:19:39 PM »
Jason Norville offered a contract at Barnet FC
Barnet FC

Jason Norville, the 21-year-old Trinidad-born striker who has been released by Championship Watford after four years, has been offered terms with Barnet.

Manager Paul Fairclough confirmed this development after training at Potters Bar on Friday ... and also revealed that he plans to offer terms to former Windsor and Eton midfielder Morgaro Gomis, who has played in the Barnet first team line-up in the absence of injured Dean Sinclair, and 19-year-old Welsh youth international left back Adam Gross, released by Charlton Athletic although a reserve team regular.

The manager also revealed that he is planning talks with 16-year-old former Crystal Palace midfielder Luke Hickey - he is not 17 until mid-August - who has been capped by Ireland in his age group. Fairclough said of the youngster: "He has real potential".

Two other trialists who have been playing in recent games, former Reading right back Louie Soares and former Colchester United and one-time Tottenham Hotspur midfield prodigy Ben Bowditch, will also be in the Barnet party playing Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

Norville, who came on the Bees scene at Canvey Island last week and made a second half substitute outing, made 14 appearances for Watford, six of them starts, and scored one goal.
Lee Roache, stretchered off early in Tuesday's game at Hayes with an ankle injury, hopes to resume training but, like Simon Clist, who has groin problems despite a close season operation, is unlikely to be ready for the start of the Coca-Cola League 2 season against Bristol Rovers at Underhill

He's been offered a contract by Barnet....well at least he is still playing in the Football league

« on: July 18, 2005, 01:37:20 PM »
Just flicking the channels and had a look at ah live Euro U19 game between Germany and Serbia/Montenegro from N.Ireland.  Could you believe that Germany have not one, not two, not three....but four black fellas in they squad, and that was just from the 15 players I saw.  Not only that, but ah turn over to a repeat of a Brazilian league game from the weekend between Santos and Sao Paulo and both linesmen were actually lineswomen!!! So why ah say then again...well the commentators for the U19 game obiviously was more shocked than me cause I swear they had about 20 references to the 'ethnic mix' of the German team, also had a few turks in the team  apparently....is sad that race is still such an issue.  The other then again, is the Brazillian cameramen gone hormonal...all kind ah extreme closeup arse shot of the LADIES 'runnin de line'.  Is the first time ah see TV coverage of 'linespeople' check the net of the goal, electric substitution board and vibrating linesflag!!! or whatever yuh call dem gadgets  ;D
