Havent been as active a poster during the last few months, but i've been sitting back and observing and right now, i can't say im too confident with the way that things are being run, I think we definitely have the talent to take us there, but with the team line up desicions that have been coming recently, the politcal tampering (uncle jack and his merry bunch) and suspect coaching staff dynamics, how are we gunna put out a decent team that gel well together?

uncertain stuff.

Football / Socawarriors.net/Warrior Nation indoor sweat
« on: February 26, 2008, 07:15:10 PM »
Myself and a few other locally based forumites were discussing doin ah indoor sweat at my school's new gym around the time of the next T&T game against el salvador.

so we're hopin to get some responses on who is gunna be here on what day so that everybody can be satisfied, the day itself we're hoping to preferably be a Saturday or Sunday, as for the gym itself... once i can manage to book it... which believe me, will not be easy, we should be more than happy, it's the best indoor sweatin venue ive been to.

the court is well big enough and i'd say as many as 6 aside can play, however idealy i think ah 4 aside would run well, men need tuh bun out ah bit, cuz iz small goal and we doh want too many legs around,

we want room tuh score and keep things flowin and room fuh each man/ girl??  tuh get dey chance tuh shine.

so we lookin at ah 4 aside and 1 sub with the sub commin on and off freely tuh suit.

once I get enough responses on how many people interested i can put up ah poll on which day after we've narrowed it down a bit with some suggestions... so people lemme know when yuh best time is.

and any other suggestions are welcome i suppose.

oh and my team already organize, however ah willin tuh pull in an Arsenal man or two to keep it ah full forum based team and ah full Arsenal team.

Morvant yuh commin back anytime soon?

Quite amazing what these boozoos will say...

"and the ball goes over the backline."            backline?    somebody please explain wheres the front line for reference...

"I used to get criticised for playing long balls too"    hoss.... we doh care... haiti is about tuh score... and I doh know what de hell is de name ah de fellah playin with the ball... or the fellah next to him... or the rest of the team...

"Canada is doing well, however the guys in the center of the field are having a hard time getting the ball to the front runners... if the front runners dont get the ball then how can you expect them to score...??"    dred... we talking about football or track and field?

how many times I hear de man blatantly ball out de wrong score... 2-1... i mean 1-0 to Haiti... (yes de man actually announce dat out rel loud)

two ah dem fools goin on about the Haiti keeper always wonderin off his mark... while my boy must be move about 5 feet away from the goal line at de most... and dey goin on and on about it... next ting they go say ah shot from outside the 6 yard is irresponsible.

ah man create space fuh heself on the edge ah de box and rock de cross bar by angelin he whole body hard to his right (towards the gaol) and they still convinced he make ah fluke cross.

But the great i hear is dis one.......

"Haiti are doing well to put pressure on the opposition, but they need to get more vertical balls in."

well dat one take de cake... soon I go be hearin the team not makin enough bisector plays.

Perhaps they go start tuh refer to any long ball as a "hail mary."

Id rather listen to Jack Warner commentate a game... I might not understand him, but hey... its not like anything he says is worth understanding anyway.

Cricket Anyone / He's Hit The Roof
« on: May 17, 2007, 08:19:12 PM »
Ultimately it would be good if we could have a local coach, but unfortunately we have nobody good enough.

Also the argument you make that the aussies are trying to sabotage us is rubbish. Let me tell you why.

Let me throw some names at you. Tom Moody: Has turned Sri Lanka around, from medicriocity to one of the top international teams in the world once more. Dav Whatmore: has managed to turn Bangladesh from frankly a joke to a side which is now being taken seriously in international cricket. Troy Cooley:helped coach England's bowlers into becoming a world class bowling unit.

Have any of the people mentioned above attempted to sabotage their respective teams? No, I dont believe so. Surely Troy Cooley if anybody would have tried to have sabotage the England bowlers before the 2005 ashes series so that Australia could win. He didnt instead he helped England win the ashes. Surely an Aussie would want to see England crash and burn more than anyone else? Same with Rod Marsh who setup the England national academy. And are you also forgetting that during the west indies success period of the 80's Dennis Waight an Australian was our fitness trainer/coach.

I am concerned about ability not nationality if a foreign coach is the best candidate then  so be it, if a local coach is then fine. But to say that the Australians are trying to sabotage our west indies team is just...rubbish.

You know I always believe that it is best to go with your own in order to reach the top and that is how we always succeeded in the past. The teams which are on top, have had their own countryman as their coach, namely australia which only had Gus Logie for a short term period but brought back their countryman who would be best suited to take them to the top.

It is important to note that nobody will love West Indies cricket like our own, the Aussies are here for money and at the end of the day they ride out whether we fail or not. They don't care about seeing us on top, they care about Australia staying on top and us not reaching that level of suprmeacy we once had. Don't think for a minute they want us to be on top again, if you think so you are fooling yourself, they never want to see us on top again, case in point, the jealousy ponting and many others had for Lara's success. This was just an example of their jealousy, they know if there was ever a revival of our cricket, they will be left out in the cold once more. They don't want this to happen.

This is why I stand by a West Indian Head Coach for our team, bc it will eliminate the sabotage, which the Aussies are doing right now to our team. For example, the exclusion of the spinner from the side on a consistant basis, especially since the spinners were the best bowlers for the region in the last 3-5 years shows that the Aussies don't want to pick the best side and make West Indies well rounded as a team.

What makes it worse is that a neutral party is suppose to get rid of the insularity and biasness from the selection, it seems only the die hard fans like ourself know who to select and what we should do, all the people in the right places are making the wrong decisions, time and time again. When will they learn to appreciate their own? I mean an individual like Gus Logie was not given as much power and support as an outsider, it is something we have to address as a people first, before they think about reviving the West Indies, appreciate your own, not disgrace them like what they did to Lara.

I think we need a West Indian coach who knows to select a team and guide them together without the insularity and biasness. If we get a coach who can select based on merit and not curry favour, we will be fine, even Rudi Webster emphasized our need for a local coach and he is right bc I always shared this view bc patriotism wins. A West Indian would get paid to take a team to the top, for example like Australia or South Africa and he will do it, without conviction, but an Aussie will always have in the back of his mind, that Australia MUST STAY ON TOP.

God is de BOSS....

you wouldnt understand what im talking about bc your brainwashed.... this invloves deep thinking and complex analysis to understand that the aussies will do anything to win and stay on top, which includes putting spokes in our wheels of advancement...

England v West Indies, 1st Test, Lord's

What's gone before matters no more

Two new coaches, two new captains, an entirely new environment and a change of format to boot. If ever two teams wished to draw a line under the inadequacies of their recent performances, then the first Test of the English season, which gets underway with bewildering haste on Thursday, provides the perfect opportunity. England and West Indies endured lamentable World Cup campaigns, but all that is now set to be forgotten. The balmy conditions of Bridgetown seem more than just a world away from the green-tinged gloom of St John's Wood.

It's springtime in England, which is entirely the appropriate season for Peter Moores, England's new head coach, to lay out his battleplans and begin the long-drawn process of renewal that a jaded squad so desperately needs after a winter of multiple nadirs. Since assembling at Lord's 48 hours ago, the team has been abuzz with buzzwords, with talk of "vibrancy", "energy" and all manner of similarly isotonic utterances. The message is clear. What's gone before matters no more.

"History starts from the day I took over, so let's give everyone a chance," said Moores, whose appointment has released his charges from all manner of Duncan Fletcher-era legacies. "We start with a clean slate - it's the only fair way." Though it is too soon to judge the impact or value of his new regime, Andrew Strauss, England's stand-in captain, already believes he can feel a difference within the dressing-room. "He's very hands-on and likes to get his hands grubby," said Strauss. "That rubs off on the players and over time that will come out on the pitch."

England would prefer not to have to wait too long for the results to start coming, however. West Indies are - not to put too fine a point on it - a team that are ripe for the picking. "We always go into series as underdogs because of the way we've been playing for the last couple of years," said their candid captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan. They have not beaten England in a Test match since the last hurrahs of Ambrose and Walsh at Edgbaston in 2000, which also happened to be their most recent overseas victory against any side other than Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. With Brian Lara now looking on from the sidelines, their prospects in alien conditions are bleaker still.

"It would be wrong of us to totally discount them, but one of our mantras is no-one should beat us at home," added Strauss. "There's no reason, if we play the sort of cricket that we can, that we should get beaten by West Indies. In our home conditions, we aim to be the best side in the world." For all the traumas of their 5-0 mauling against Australia, England's home record is indeed impressive, with 16 wins and just two losses in their last 22 Tests, dating back to that memorable victory over South Africa at The Oval in 2003.

If, weather permitting, England are unable to improve on those stats over the coming five days, then it really will be time for a root-and-branch reform of the team - especially against a side that has had just 48 overs of preparation since arriving in the country. "We knew what could happen with just one game for preparation," said Sarwan, after watching the rain sheet down in Taunton last week, "but we are determined to stay mentally strong."

But, for the time being, Moores is dead-set against a complete clean-out of England's cupboard. Michael Vaughan, who hasn't played a Test since the tour of Pakistan in December 2005, has been appointed as leader for the series, a situation that Strauss claims he is entirely comfortable with - even if he required a prompter when the word "relationship" somehow got snagged in his throat.

"It's not as if I'm not experienced - I've done it in these circumstances before," added Strauss, who was infamously appointed as the "stand-in's stand-in" when Andrew Flintoff went lame against Pakistan last summer. "[Michael]'s a very experienced captain and he's got the ability to see things that other people might not, so I'm certainly not going to be stubborn enough to say: 'I'm not going to listen to you Vaughany'."

It could, however, be a significantly changed team that takes the field for England on Thursday, especially if Flintoff, whose ankle was still causing him discomfort during practice, is forced to sit out his fifth consecutive home Test. With overcast, seaming conditions predicted, England are likely to back a four-bowler strategy and bring Owais Shah into the middle-order, while Monty Panesar - England's cause celebre of the winter - could quite legitimately be made the fall-guy unless Moores feels the need to make a statement in his first game in charge. "There's going to be moisture, and it'll swing if it's overcast," said Strauss. "It's an option, although as a general rule it's good to have a spinner in your side. It gives you variety."

Tomorrow's toss ought to be a no-brainer if England win. They will surely bowl first and unleash the pace pairing of Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard, who - for contrasting reasons - have been out of action since the end of the Ashes campaign. Both have used the break well and have been in fine form for their counties, with Harmison especially menacing, having scalped 24 wickets in just three County Championship matches. He claims to have put his desperate tour of Australia and subsequent retirement from one-day cricket behind him, and he of all people epitomises the fresh start that Moores is hoping to usher in this month.

"Harmy is in a good place at the moment," said Moores, who has had a one-on-one with each of his new charges since taking the reins at the beginning of May, in a bid to "create an environment where people enjoy playing" - something that couldn't have been further from Harmison's gameplan during that sullen Ashes experience. "We've sat and talked, and he's more than warranted his selection. Enjoyment comes from winning and doing well as a sportsman, and on that side, he's bowled well in county cricket. He's knows his bowling and knows his game, and he has a lot to give to the team."

Harmison also knows how to stick it up the West Indians. He has taken 40 wickets in eight Tests against them, a haul that included his incredible 7 for 12 at Sabina Park in April 2004 and which led to him ascending - albeit briefly - to the top of the world bowling rankings. But Strauss, knowing full well how fragile his team-mate's confidence can be, wasn't about to hark back to those former glories. "What I expect from Steve Harmison is he bowls like he has this summer, "he said. "Clearly been doing the right things, with good pace and good control, and he looks happy with the way he's bowling."

West Indies have some pace prospects of their own. Fidel Edwards, another man who has been lying low during the World Cup, was singled out by Sarwan for his pace and vigour, while the swing specialist Corey Collymore can expect to thrive in the conditions, given the opportunity. "We've got no big superstars, it's just a matter of playing basic cricket and getting it right," added Sarwan, who cited the glamour-free uber-professional New Zealanders as the inspiration for his team's new era. Maybe that 11.30 curfew is having some effect after all.

Either way, it is hard to imagine how England - with or without Flintoff - can fail to get back on track this week. Although both teams are in a process of rebuilding, the vibe being emitted from the West Indian camp is one of discontent and ever-so-mild dissent, as epitomised by Chris Gayle's grumblings about his early bedtime. Their opponents, on the other hand, seem rather more determined to prove they are still worthy of their world Test ranking of No. 2, the only accolade they managed to retain this winter. "It's important we learn the lessons and challenge ourselves to improve," said Strauss. "This is the start of that process. If the guys aren't excited and motivated in this Test match, they never will be."

England (probable) 1 Andrew Strauss (capt), 2 Alastair Cook, 3 Ian Bell, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Paul Collingwood, 6 Owais Shah, 7 Matt Prior (wk), 8 Liam Plunkett, 9 Steve Harmison, 10 Matthew Hoggard, 11 James Anderson.

West Indies (probable) 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Daren Ganga, 3 Devon Smith, 4 Ramnaresh Sarwan (capt), 5 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 6 Runako Morton, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Dinesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Daren Powell, 10 Corey Collymore, 11 Jerome Taylor.

Football / If YOU Could Choose...

Who would you choose for each position in the TTFF?

Who would you keep, if anyone? (example: Philips)

Who would you get rid of? (No need to call names... don't have enough time either)

Would you pay the suing player's their money? If so, who and would you pay them their full?

What would your focus be? Advertising more young talented Trini's to the top flight foreign leagues or would you put more emphasis on bringng quality players to the local league?

We also need a big time sponser for the league, a sponser who will throw out rel bills... who could that be?? Alcoa?? (I am indeed against the smelter, but hey...)

We all give the TTFF alot of stick, especially me, myself and I, however... if you were in the driving seat what would you do?

Carlos Edwards (born 24 October 1978 in Diego Martin) is a Trinidadian football player who currently plays as a midfielder for Sunderland.

Edwards started his career at Defence Force in his native Trinidad and Tobago and was later signed by Wrexham in 2000. After five years with Wrexham, and one piece of silverware in the form of the Football League Trophy, Edwards joined Football League Championship side Luton in 2005 on a Bosman .

At Luton he became popular with the fans with his flair and ability, winning the Young Members Player of the Season award.

In 2006, Edwards was called up to the Trinidad and Tobago national football team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

In his first match against Sweden in the World Cup, he played brilliantly, shutting down top quality players such as Zlatan Ibrahimović of Inter Milan. He also played in Trinidad's other two games, against England and Paraguay, receiving acclaim for his overall performances from many observers.

He completed a £1.5 million move to Sunderland on January 2 2007. It was revealed Edwards signed on a three and a half year contract. He has started his career at Sunderland with goals against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City F.C.and Birmingham F.C.. Carlos was sidelined with a shoulder injury. He returned to the squad to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in Sunderland's 2-1 victory recently, his return is to the overwhelming approval of Sunderlands fans, many of whom see his performances as vital if Sunderland are to achieve automatic promotion in the final run-in of the season. A fantastic goal against Southampton and the stunning winner against Burnley confirmed Edwards as one of the best players outside of the Premier League.

Southampton vs Preston (statistical preview.)

                           P      GD      PTS
1 Birmingham        35     20      67
2 Derby               35     13      66
3 West Brom        36     22      63
4 Sunderland        36     17      63
5 Wolverhampton 36      4       62
6 Southampton    35     17      59
7 Cardiff              36     13      59
8 Preston            34     12      59

Southampton need tuh put Preston in dey place for themselves and Sunderland... We wanna start seeing a gap between the top 6 and the rest of the table.

Furthermore, Preston are on level points with Southampton and a game up, amplifying the need for an outright win.

Preston v Southampton
Preston will be without Simon Whaley (foot), Paul McKenna (hernia) and Lewis Neal (neck) but Youl Mawene is back in training after a serious knee problem.
Fit-again Callum Davidson is likely to come in for the suspended Matt Hill but Brett Ormerod is rated doubtful because of a facial injury.

New loan signing from Liverpool, 20-year-old, Danny Guthrie will go straight into Saints squad.

Alexander Ostlund and Darren Powell are on the mend but not ready.

Our Boy Kenwyne

Here's a comparison between Southampton's top 2 strikers:

            LG        FA     LC     TOT
Rasiak    17        2        0        19
Jones    12        1        1        14

Here's what Jones has on Rasiak... Rasiak has played 32 while Jones has played 24.

Despite that... Rasiak still, statistically, has a greater likelyhood of scoring with .59 goals a game with Jones right on his heels at .58 a game.

I believe Jones will put away atleast one today and hopefully Southampton will put some space between themselves and Preston in the League tables.

County News

Glamorgan target Best and Maher

Cricinfo staff

January 7, 2007

Jimmy Maher, the Australia batsman and Tino Best, the West Indies fast bowler, are top of Glamorgan's wish list for the new season.

Maher, 33 next month, represented the county in 2001, passing 1000 runs, and briefly in 2003 before joining Durham. Best, though, has yet to play for a county but is excited by the prospect of playing in England.

"If the opportunity comes about I will grab it with all ten of my fingers and all ten of my toes," Best told Sunsport. "You are always excited by that possible opportunity, but no one has contacted my agent yet. A friend of mine had a chat with Glamorgan. They are very interested.

"If I don't make the West Indies team to England, I would be playing first-class cricket in England, which is very good for a young man - to play in that type of environment and set-up."

Best played the last of his 12 Tests against Sri Lanka in 2005, and represented West Indies on their last tour of England in 2004. England host West Indies for four Tests and three one-dayers with the first Test at Lord's on May 17.
