She may qualify for the heptathlon by her ranking. Apparently if she stays in third on the heptathlon top list, she will qualify, despite not getting the 6420 standard.

Tokyo Olympics: People in Japan oppose games going ahead - but only an 'Armageddon' will stop it
Sixty-three per cent of the public are against holding the Olympics, according to the Nikkei newspaper.

By Tom Cheshire, Asia correspondent @chesh, Tuesday 1 June 2021, UK

The only thing which will stop the Tokyo Olympics going ahead, according to the International Olympic Committee, is "Armageddon" - a bar that the pandemic, as terrible as it has been, does not currently meet.

That has many in Japan upset.

Sixty-three per cent of the public are opposed to holding the Olympics, according to the Nikkei newspaper.

Nearly 3,000 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on 30 May and although the number has been trending downwards since the middle of May, the public is questioning whether 90,000 athletes, officials, journalists and other workers arriving in the country is the wisest idea.

That may seem strange in the UK, which is preparing to host a chunk of the Euro 2020 football tournament. But the Japanese public has three reasons to hesitate.

First, Japan has controlled COVID a lot better than most. There have only been around 13,000 deaths over the whole pandemic - and it wants to keep things that way.

Second, the arrival of new, more transmissible variants, which Japan has largely avoided.

And third, Japan has proceeded very cautiously with vaccine approvals. As a result, only 12 million doses have been administered for a country with a population of 126.3 million.

Those are all justified concerns but don't satisfy the IOC's Armageddon criteria. And with less than two months before the games start, they are unlikely to be cancelled. Another postponement has already been ruled out.

Japan is taking some measures. Foreign spectators have already been banned from coming. And capacity in stadiums will be reduced, as it has for baseball and football matches.

The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported that Japanese spectators would have to provide proof of vaccination (which will be pretty hard to come by the way things are going) or a negative COVID-19 test. There were also reports that anyone watching in person would be barred from shouting or giving high-fives.

If the spectators are there to provide atmosphere, a disgruntled public forbidden from cheering doesn't promise much of that. And there could still be a ban on anyone attending at all.

To avoid that, the Japanese government needs to reassure the public a lot more effectively than it has so far.

I've been told Khalifa has resumed training in Orlando since the beginning of December, where Keston Bledman and Kelly-Ann Baptiste train under coach Lance Brauman.

Many thanks for the update Ato!  :salute:

Thanks for your feedback Ato. You have been predicting this coming drought for a while now.
Sad to say you are right once again.  :(

I am still wondering who is Khaifa's coach and how or if she is preparing for making the TTO Team for the Olympics next year as all athletes who are serious about being at Tokyo 2020 next year should have already started their winter preparations as the start of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is less than 8 months away.

Khalifa's facebook page only seems to have stuff about church and praying but nothing at all about her winter training or if it has started and how things are progressing for her from a sprinting perspective with Tokyo in mind. See this link for confirmation: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100011981013214

Maybe someone should seek Khalifa out for an interview and update on her status and preparations as everyone seems to be wondering what is happening with her as no one has a clue.

Athletes are NOT to be blamed?

We all know the shit-show the NAAA is, but to say the athletes are not to be blamed is disingenuous.

Blame the NAAA for the lack of proper 4x1 prep for decades, blame them for Carifta and World Junior/Youth failures and ZERO new talents coming through, but YES, the PRO athletes themselves have to be accountable.

If you are in your absolute prime years and performing worse than 2-4 years ago, whose fault is that?

Certainly not the NAAA.

Hmmmm... Food for thought.

However some of our athletes who are supposed to be in their prime right now have been contending with injuries this season so I wouldn't knock any of them who did not medal. Lets not forget that before Doha none of the sports analysts around the world were rating any of our TTO athletes as strong medals contenders in any of the events.
Only our Men's 4x4 team (as defending champions) were being mentioned as potential medal contenders and as it was their best efforts could only give us a 5th place finish in the final because the other medal contenders fielded stronger 4x4 relay teams in comparison to the teams they fielded back in 2017 while we in contrast fielded a weaker Men's 4x4 relay team than we did back in 2017.

Who brave enough to tell me out loud how many medals T&T won at the Championships and when last we win this amount?  :D

This was our worst World Champs medal performance since the 2007 edition in which we also won zero medals.

In the 2009 edition we won 3 medals (1 silver by our Men's 4×100m Relay team & 2 bronze, one by Renny Quow in the Men's 400m and the other by  Josanne Lucas in the Women's 400m Hurdles);

In the 2011 edition we won just 1 medal (1 bronze by Kelly-Ann Baptiste in the Women's 100m);

In the 2013 edition we again won 1 medal (1 gold by Jehue Gordon in Men's 400m Hurdles);

In the 2015 edition we won 2 medals (1 silver by our Men's 4×400m Relay team & 1 bronze by our Women's 4x100m Relay team);

In the 2017 edition we again won 2 medals (1 gold by Men's 4×400m Relay team & 1 bronze by Jereem Richards in the Men's 200m);

In the 2019 edition we are back to no medals as in 2007 but congrats still to all our athletes for givong their very best and flying the flag.

We all know where the blame lies for our lack of progress and going backwards rather than forwards and the athletes are not to be blamed if you truly understand the hurdles they have to overcome to represent the country and to be at their very best come these global championships.

Just saw our girls in the 4x100. Honestly, they never stood a chance. But I liked their fight. Unfortunately, they not fast enough. Their baton passing decent to good.  The last 2 exchanges could be bit better. But I like this quartet.  They just need to work on their passing. Hopefully Khalifa will be fit and ready. We need more than 4.  One injury and that is it.  Well done.  Work hard.  Blessings.

With Khalifa and MLA back in the squad their chance of pressing for a medal should improve but they will need to run relays more regularly next season and to hopefully take part in an annual relay camp which is desperately needed.

Hopefully MLA wins her "Whereabouts Failure" hearing based on her case being almost exactly the same as USA's Christian Coleman's and she will be back in the Relay squad and running for T&T next year rather than having to face a possible 2 year ban.

Sad to see Cedenio fade but he did his best

He exerted a bit too much energy during the first half of the race trying to keep up with the main medal contenders and realized that he did not have enough gas left down the home straight to execute his trademark kick. Or it is also possible when Cedenio realized he couldn't get among the medals to conserve his energy for the 4x4 relays which is the next day (Saturday) and also Sunday (provided we qualify for the Final).

I believe next season Machel needs to run more 200s to work on his raw speed and to try to get his 200m PB down to 20 flat or faster if he wants to seriously contend for a medal in the 400m flat in Tokyo next year which will require sub-44 times and ability.

To win medals in 400m these days at World Champs or Olympics you need to also be very good at the 200m to have that raw speed so that running the first half of the race in about 22 flat or less does not take too much out of you effort wise.

Shauni Miller beaten today by a Bahraini I have never heard about. Was a great race and fantastic time also.

Salwa Eid Naser is originally from Nigeria and has been showing signs of becoming a world beater ever since she won the junior 400m world title as an 18 year old. She is only 21 now so could dominate the women's 400m for the next 4 to 8 years.

Jereem struggled. No final for him.

Greaux had to work his way for 2nd in the semi. Did not look as good as he did in the heats. He needs a good lane to finish top 5. Top 3.. he'll need nothing higher than 19.90

Greaux is in tremendous form. I seen his race yesterday. He has a chance of getting on to the podium. Actually he's looking better than Jereem.. and Jereem does not look bad at all.

T&T squad for World Champs...and its a small team simply because enough our athletes did not meet the qualifying standards to compete

Kyle Greaux, Jereem Richards (200m), Machel Cedenio (400m), Andwuelle Wright (long jump), Keshorn Walcott (javelin), mile relay squad (Cedenio, Mitchell, Guevera, Richards, Lendore)

When last you see a T&T team going into a major Track and Field championships with NO contestant in the men and women 100m. NONE of our male athletes meet the qualifying run time standard to compete at the Worlds only ONE of our female the women run time standard (Ahye) and she is on suspension.

So how is this not being raised by the sports media in T&T? Because its the media who has to bring the significance of this disappointment to the attention of the public.

Its not true that only ONE of our female sprinters ran the 100m IAAF World Champs qualifying standard of 11.24 for this season.  If MLA had not been suspended we would have had 3 female sprinters who ran quicker than the 11.24 IAAF World Champs 100m qualifying standard.

KAB's 100m SB this season is 11.14 which is actually faster than MLA's 100m SB of 11.18.
In addition Kamaria Durant ran quicker than the 11.24 IAAF World Champs 100m qualifying standard at our 2019 Open Senior Champs when she ran a legal 11.17 in the 100m Semis.
So KAB with a SB of 11.14, Durant with a SB of 11.17 and MLA with a SB of 11.18 all met and surpassed the IAAF World Champs 100m Qualifying Standard of 11.24 this season.
See this link for confirmation: https://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/sprints/100-metres/outdoor/women/senior/2019

In addition KAB is actually competing in the 100m in Doha and is thru to the 100m Semis taking place this evening. See this link: https://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/iaaf-world-athletics-championships-doha-2019-6033/results/women/100-metres/semi-final/startlist#resultheader

Question we need to ask is why was Kamaria Durant not selected to run the 100m in Doha alongside KAB but we know she is running the 200m so maybe she wanted to concentrate on her stronger event which is the 200m.

Jereem Richards and Kyle Greaux are also starting their 200m medal campaigns today as they appear in Heats 4 & 7 respectively of the Men's 200m. See this link: https://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/iaaf-world-athletics-championships-doha-2019-6033/results/men/200-metres/heats/startlist#resultheader

I see only one medal at the world championships.

4x400 men

Don't know where else we getting one.

If this happens (only one medal at Worlds) and the NAAA TT with its current leadership don't wake up and start listening to the advice of people like Ato then they never will.

Lets' see what transpires.

Michelle-Lee Ahye came in second to claim her first medal at the Pan American Games in the Womens 100m Final with a time of 11.27 seconds!

Allyuh PanAm Games going on?

Yeap it start this weekend but the athletics segment don't start till next weekend.

I don't believe MLA is on the decline I just think that she has had a lot going on behind the scenes this year. If KAB can get into sub 11 form before October she too stands a chance at making the final.

Please note that KAB's 100m PB of 11.14 so far this season is quicker than MLA's SB of 11.18.

The fact that MLA has been running much more often on the circuit than KAB this season and yet KAB still has a faster 100m SB than MLA this season should be worrying for those who are expecting MLA to make the World Champs 100m Final and to place anywhere inside the top 6 in the final.
I doubt that anyone who wants to place in the top 6 come the Women's 100m Final at World Champs in Doha will be able to do so without going sub-11 and MLA is yet to go sub-11 this season.

Lets hope both MLA and KAB can go sub-11 and be in sub-11 form by Doha.

On the bright side Kamaria Durant is looking in the best shape I've seen her in for a while and ran a new 100m PB of 11.17 in the 100m Semis at Senior Open Champs and placed 3rd in the 100m Final. In addition KD also won the 200m Final in a respectable time of 22.96 so a TTO Women's 4x100m relay team of Durant to MLA to (Semoy or Prieto) to KAB can make the World Champs Final and could even place in the top 5 with enough baton practice but they will have to be prepared and able to lower our 4x100m relay NR of 42.03 if they plan to be anything other than lane-fillers in the Final.

20
All the usual suspects are through to the 200m Semis taking place on Sunday.
Final should be a duel between defending champion Kyle Greaux and main challenger Jereem Richards.

What about Track & Field / Re: Michelle-Lee Ahye Thread
« on: July 17, 2019, 01:58:34 PM »
This is interesting especially as the Athletics segment of the Pan Am Games is due to start on 6th August which is the same day that Ahye who claims not to have been charged is due to appear in court.

Would the Public Information Officer attached to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Patricia Gutierrez, give false information about someone being charged and them having their case on file?
Also if Ahye was not charged then why would she have spent a night in custody and be released the next day after bail was paid and then be ordered to appear in court on 6th August?

Something is not adding up here but we will know for sure by 6th August if Ahye was not charged as she would not be required to appear in court on that date and will naturally be in Lima with the TTO Pan Am team.

What about Track & Field / Re: Khalifa St Fort "De Real Deal" Thread
« on: June 25, 2019, 10:33:32 AM »
She got injured right before the world relays.

Ato did say during or soon after World Relays that Khalifa was over her injury and should be vying for a spot on the TTO Pan Am Games and World Championships teams.

Maybe she picked up another injury. Hopefully we will get an update soon from Ato as I was sort of expecting Khalifa to be running as fast as or even faster than Briana Williams this season.

So what is the latest news?

Good question. Hopefully Ato will give us an update.

Football / Re: Thread for T&T vs Panama Game (18-Jun-2019)
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:02:54 PM »
Maybe we should get some of the Venes who have been regularized and who can play football to rep T&T in our next game?!

As an incentive any Vene player that scores for us gets instant T&T citizenship!  ;)

And btw I don't care if our Trinvene football players can't speak English as I can't handle witnessing another awful T&T performance like we had against Panama last night.

Definitely know about Tyra and she keeps getting better which is exciting I hope she can make history for herself and Trinidad by winning a medal on the world stage one day. Despite our lack of governance at the NAAA/TTNAAA in these 2000's we've seen more elite talent than ever before. Moreso the emergence of the women.

Imagine what we could do with good leadership/vision and programs in place.
