Dreamer, you have a point there. I think not enough is done to promote the history of football in our country. Even I am guilty of not knowing many of our past players and their achievements. This is a huge shame.

Imagine we make World Cup and many of us do not even know our own football history. Since the World Cup hype done, football gone back to its normal ways.

Maybe some should strat working on a website to help the promoe the history of football.

This is a real sad situation.

Football / Re: What came first: TV or the Fans?
« on: October 12, 2006, 07:01:58 PM »
I think before we start putting the Pro-League on Television, more needs to be done to promote it. Currently, the crowds average around 2000-5000 depending on how big the match is. Yes we may show it on TV but with the exception of the fans, how much people will watch it when compared to say Arsenal playing Manchester United?

Great report as usual Touches

 :beermug: :beermug: :beermug:

However, that midfield needs a playmaker. Latapy already retire and Yorke will not be around forever.
Let's hope at least a couple of players from thePro league will step up their game and come forward to take their own in this position.

Football / Re: We could've beaten any concacaf team
« on: October 07, 2006, 10:07:47 PM »
Oh man, the feeling of victory is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We dominated this game from start to finish, we played as a unit and did it in style. Been a while since we had a victory though. I think the last time we won an international game was against Iceland earlier in the year.

It was great seeing the stars again in action. The crowd was disappointing though. I guess tonight we really saw who was the die hards of Trinidad and Tobago football. Come on people, this was our first game at home since the World Cup and many of our World Cup heroes were on display. The least some of the waggonists could do was come out to see some of our heroes in action.

Anyway, beating St. Vincent and the Grenadines tonight should not be taken lightly. If I remember correctly, on Nov 17th 2004, during the World Cup Qualifiers second round, they needed to beat us by three clear goals to make the final hex, and they nearly did it, they totally outplyed us and we were very lucky that night to win that match. Bertille was the coach that time.

Then on Jan 16th 2005, during the Digicel qualifiers, they beat us 1-0 in their own home country. Thus, since then, tonight, we have showed that we have reached another level compared to them especially after beat Jamaica in Jaimaica and hammered St. Lucia 8-0.

Well done Soca Warriors, we made one or two mistakes tonight but if we continue to play like we played tonight, we could reach new heights in our football. Let's hope the TTFA could their act together to prevent more problems in our football.

Go Soca Warriors.

Why we in this country love bacchanal and controversy so. I get up this morning to this shocking news. The TTFA up to their nonsense again. This event will definately affect the moral of the team today.

Why we in this country must always make one step forward and then three steps?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, it is high time a Caribbean team win this Gold Cup.

Tired of those North Americans (Canada and USA) and those Central Americans (Mexico) winning this tournament. Hopefully, we will be able to emulate our performance in Gold Cup 2000 and move two steps better.

Making the finals and winning the tournament. Then we qualify for Confederations Cup!!!!!!!!!

Man, I hope this true.

First, we qualify for the World Cup.

Next, we play in the World Cup.

Now imagine if we get to play in Copa America against the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Uraguay.

Man that is awesome not to mention excellent exposure and experience for the team.

 ;D ;D ;D

Man, long time I have not posted on the forum. Glad to be back.

How Everybody?

The game Saturday will be a good challenge for us. If I remember correctly, last time we played St. Vincent, they beat us in the Digicel Cup Qualifiers last time and boy, I could remember during the semi-finals stage of the World Cup Qualifiers when they needed to beat us by three clear goals, they all over us.

Zoran Vranes has been doing very good work with them since he took over the reins. Look they beat Jamaica in their home grounds. I do not think we have yet accomplished this feat if I am correct. I could be wrong on this fact.

The game will be a good test for us come Saturday. Hopefully, we will win.

Go Soca Warriors.

Cricket Anyone / Re: ganga the best captain in 20/20
« on: August 19, 2006, 05:53:43 PM »
I believe we ought to give Ganga a go as West Indies captain at some point. He has been consistent at the regional level for quite a while and T&T nearly did the treble this year under his capataincy.

He seems to be a thinking captain who is proactive instead of reactive. It seems he is a good reader of the game and creates tactics to suit the situation. He also seems to have ability to inspire and motivate his players even when the chips are down.

He should be given a chance aas West Indies captain as soon as Lara gives up the capataincy.

That Final was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about excitement. Both teams played their hearts out but in the end Guyana won.

Congratulations to Guyana.

TnT have nothing to be shame about, they played their best and I am proud of them. Maybe next time we will win.

This 20/20 really is the best thing to happen to West Indies Cricket since we won the ICC Championship back in 2004. To see the cricket stadium being filled like that for nearly every game, to see so much passionfrom the fans and to see the teams play their hearts out. This is a very positive thing for cricket given the difficulties in our cricket of late.

Once again, let's hope we can build on this.

Cricket Anyone / Re: A Captain's Knock
« on: August 06, 2006, 01:54:17 PM »
Whether Captain B underperformed in that Test or not is not the point. India played the better cricket throughout the series and we were lucky not to be 2-0 down coming into this last Test. The 50 runs defeat in that last Test was due to the team's poor batting performance in the first innings and leeting India off the hook at 96/6 or something like that and then allowing them to score 200 plus. We then replied with only a hundred and something.

Whether Lara made runs or not is not the point. There are eleven men in a team. If any two or three of those men applied themselves, we could have gooten more runs. This was not the most demonic pitch in the World. I have seen Test pitches with extremely wide cracks or pitches which are literally green with grass.

Captain A applied himself as well as did Sarwan and Ramdhin in the second innings. Lara is not to blame for this defeat. He is to blame for his stupid comments after the match. West Indies just did not apply themselves properly in this last Test.

Cricket Anyone / Re: WICB Issues Tour Contracts Directly to Players
« on: August 06, 2006, 01:44:59 PM »
I don't think the union(WIPA) fighting down the match fees but rather how the Board bypassed them and went directly to the players just because the WICB on a strict deadline and because negoitiations between the two organisations broke down. More controversy in West Indies Cricket.

The problem I think is that the WICB is accustomed to doing things their own way. I mean, back in the seventies and eighties, players were not made aware of their match fees and contracts till they were already on tour. The Board would only reveal this after they were playing. Of course, these players had a different mindset. They played for the love and pride of the game. Thus, no controversy would take place here. However, the Kerry Packer series revolutionised this ideology.

Things are different these days. Our players need to be properly compensated and formed the WIPA union especially after the 1998 South Africa fiasco. The Board has to change its mentality. The problem for the WICB though is that its sponsor DIGICEL (I am just guessing here), may be pulling some strings and forcing them in between a rock and a hard place. Hence the reason why they are forced to may these rash actions sometimes.

« on: August 06, 2006, 01:27:50 PM »
Well, the building process seems to have begun. Glad to see some new faces. This match will give them the necessary exposure. Some more friendlies should be organised like this for the team, I mean just not to prepare for Gold Cup, Digicel Cup or just for a tournament. Matches like this should be organised on a consistent basis to help expose our new players and combine them with the existing players who played in the World Cup.

In this way, we will be able to gel the team and find new talent. Good Luck Soca Warriors.

I think we will win 2-1 though the result is not entirely important. Once the team learns from this experience and improve with every match, I will be happy. This does not mean they have to be trashed 5-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Football / Re: I hope that Stern John drops T&T
« on: July 26, 2006, 08:01:02 AM »
I do not think Stern John will ever drop TnT. He will continue to play and remail committed to us no matter how ungrateful some of our people are towards him. Hoever, I agree with you 1989 with your point.

I remember how hurt Stern John was when, before the WCQ against Guatemala, many people wanted him drop from the starting lineup because he was not scoring. Good things Beenie kept faith in him. Then we all jumped for joy when he scored those two saviour goals in the last five minutes.

The mere fact he cuss the crowd shows how hurt he felt and how hipocrit some of our fans were.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Bravo Stripped of his Retainer Contract
« on: July 25, 2006, 08:45:47 AM »
It seems the WICB is in no position to make demands even if they wanted to. Dropping the sponsors is one thing but when you drop them, you must have another one ready to take over. Before the WICB even thinks of dropping DIGICEL and not only have to get another sponsor first but also they might have put out money to compensate DIGICEL for breaking their sponsorship contracts and agrrements. Right now, I doubt the WICB has that kind of finances to compensate DIGICEL.

Thank you Beenhakker. You are great man and a great coach. You took a team that was struggling and made them a force to be reckoned with. Thank you for taking and guiding us to our very first World Cup and thank you for making us put on a good show at our very first World Cup.

Good Luck to you in your future endeavours.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Bravo Stripped of his Retainer Contract
« on: July 24, 2006, 10:36:58 AM »
You can't bite the hands that feed you. The WICB is bankrupt and as result they don't want to risk losing DIGICEL as one of the main sponsors or the sponsor of West Indies Cricket. As result, they will do almost anything DIGICEL dictates to them.

However, this makes me wonder sometimes if DIGICEL really cares about West Indies cricket as they claim to do. They are stutting their stuff regardless of whether it causes conflict between WIPA and the WICB. All DIGICEL seems to care about sometimes is the money.

This may not be true but the way they are behaving, it seems like that sometimes.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Stanford 20 / 20 Thread
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:39:23 AM »
I think we are suffering the problem which teams in South Africa, Australia and England had in their first seasons. They believed that it was necessary to try to hit every ball for six or four and this led to a lot of small totals. Now, these teams score two hundred plus in this format. The game is now in its third season in South Africa and England.

It will take us a little time to develop the right strategies and tactics and adjust to this format.

Football / Re: Zizou and Materazzi both banned
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:26:09 AM »
Perhaps, but a serious incident like this took place because FIFA and even more the referees allowed players to get away with things like this for years. Now FIFA is trying to stamp it out. Dangerous precedent or not, I think football organisations have to start dealing seriously with these incidents in order to try to eliminate them from the game and make players believe that they cannot get away with these sort of infringements.

Football / Re: Birchall misses Japan Friendly
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:22:19 AM »
I don't see anything wrong with Birchall sitting out this match. The English season will begin soon and he wants to get a good start with his club. As long as Birchall does not make this is a habit and comes for national duty when it is really important, I have no problem with this.

Besides, it would give Wigham a chance to look at some of our younger players on an international stage.

Football / Re: Zizou and Materazzi both banned
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:17:23 AM »
I think FIFA trying to get strict now with the amount of things they players get away it. The pulling of shirts, diving, sledging ect have been allowed for so many years now that it has been a sort of accepted part of the game.

Now FIFA trying to put their foot down and eliminate some of these problems the game is faced with. As a result, since they believed that Materazzi started the incident for saying something, they believed that he too should be penalised.

Cricket Anyone / Re: A new era underway in the Caribbean
« on: July 13, 2006, 09:40:21 PM »
From what I read on Cricinfo a few days ago, it seems the WICB has distanced itself from this tournament. However, in an interview with Ian Bishop yesterday, Mr. Stanford said he is currently having discussions with the Board with regards to this tournament and cricket in general.

I am glad Mr. Stanford has invested in this tournament. It will help promote the game among the small islands, rejuvenate interest and perhaps future stars may come from having such a tournament.

Just to see the passion of the small islands so far in the tournament especially St. Lucia is a heartful and tearful experience. You would swear this was the World Cup the way they were celebrating, this tournmanet is a very good idea.
