Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Panama Game (5-Sept-2017)
« on: September 05, 2017, 10:16:14 PM »
I started watching with 60 minutes gone so I don't know what went on before, except Panama had two goals and T&T none.

However, I think it would be nice if being able to consistently control the ball, dribble it and pass it were fundamental requirements to play for T&T. It might be too late for those skills from players with froth in dey pee. I suspect chest trapping the ball and having it become a 50-50 ball or, dribbling it straight up to a man just standing waiting for you to bring it come so he could take it and not even say thanks, are considered good football tactics.

It would also be nice if ball peongs could actually justify being ball peongs.

But in the end dem fellas just not up to the task.Nobody puts on their country's colors with the goal in mind (pun intended) to go and shit dong de place. Or do they?

While that first goal by Costa Rica was well designed, the Warriors should have done better to defend against the header. Maybe that is why it worked in the first place. Tthe Costa Ricans probably scouted T&T and knew the tendencies of defenders to not mark players. Anyway, I want to toss out this question to goalkeepers number one, or the experts who might know because I am old-school on this: Why do goalkeepers, (as did Jan Michael), stay on their lines and not attack balls anywhere in the air in the goal area? Are they leaving it up to their defenders or do they honestly think they have good odds on stopping a header from such close range? And if in doubt why not get the ball yourself when its in the air in the area with that goalkeeping edict in mind: Never leave your line and get caught in no-man's land.

To me, a goalkeeper who intercepts crosses that close, forces the other team to pull the ball back and that is always good for goalkeepers. Not so?

Besides, attackers know most likely their attack is ended when the goalie has control of the the ball. Not so too?

I got a screen grab showing the moment the pass was made. As much as I hate to admit, it wasn't even close. He was offside. Two of them actually.

Fensic, you right. But KJ looked more off-side than Lewis. Nathan was very close, like a shoulder. KJ was a again off-side when he whipped a a quick grounder across the goal. Like I posted in a another thread, had the US scored one like that, it would have stood.

Home town advantage rules? (Unless is in Triniland and the referee is from another country in the region maybe? I doh know ;)

I got a screen grab showing the moment the pass was made. As much as I hate to admit, it wasn't even close. He was offside. Two of them actually.

Still, that play and the one where Kenwyne headed onto the cross-bar should be consistent options in the Warrior's offensive repertoire.

I have seen T&T score off similar plays under Hart. They are devastating because they come off runs from outside the box into open space in the box; they are tough to defend as they are usually the result of very few touches so there is practically no build up and the result are goals out of what looks like nothing.

Even if the defense goes with the man making the run, there's always the possibility of it being a dummy run.

This business of one attacker trying to get around multiple defenders on the ground stopped working when I played football and look how long ago that was. It died when marking space replaced man to man inside the box. Plus, T&T players can be notorious ball watchers when the man with the ball takes on multiple defenders. Yet, when they do try to help is like the man wid de ball does say, "doh worry, I have dis", and keep forcing his way. All a good defender has to do his guide him to a bad angle for a low percentage shot which Trinis seem to always take for some strange reason.

Enjoyed reading this (the entire post).

I haven't reviewed the second half yet, so I'll reserve comment on the offside situation ... but just finished reviewing the first half. It definitely provides a prologue for what happened next.

There's much to what you state. What I would like to read more about is the assertion regarding "marking space versus man to man inside the box" ...

Give us a follow-up?

Regardless of all the advancements, football is still a simple game: Get the ball in their net more often then they get it in ours. As long as your fundamentals are fairly sound and you don't have unforgivable mental lapses that is.

That said, I used the wrong term when I said marking space. I should have said, zone defense.

I think there's no better strategy for defending the penalty box, especially against better prepared opponents. It is best for blunting an opponent's dummy run, or run into open space or a pass into open space for a player to run into. I could be wrong since I am old fashioned that way and see things in football that I wonder who the hell thought that shit was a good idea? Like goalies in short short sleeves and gloves like they is Mutt or Jeff. But I digress.

Given similarities between how basketball players and footballers attack, zone defense, adapted for the nuances of football, works better than man to man, in the penalty box. Assign a defender to an area and give him or her  the front door key to it.

Any reasonably knowledgable goalie hates to see a player in front of him not know if to chase a man all over the penalty box or stay put. Things happen quick in that box so while they in two minds, someone else gets the ball and the goalie becomes target practice.

When I was getting the ball out the back of my net, hearing the steups start and then, ". . .I tort you was pickin him up" and the denial with ". . . Me? Why me?  He not your man? . . .", didn't help.

In my lil coaching I insisted defenders break off from man to man into zone as soon as the other team entered the penalty box. However, field awareness is not easily taught so I'd get hoarse during games.

I say it is still a valid strategy. Guard an area and stop anyone from coming through it without paying a toll of some sort. Let the other team come up with a plan: Unless football has its version of basketball's pick and roll.

Sorry about the confusion with the term I used cause I eh invent nuttin new. I bet the US team employs zone defense.

I might have tuh watch tuh see fuh sure.

I have to watch that replay because Fox showed it very briefly and it looked to me as if his body was level with the defender when the ball was played. It looked like he was still onside but I'll like to see it again to be fair and unbiased.

Let mih add torts about dis heart attack Soca Warriors team since I tink ah know lil bit bout football. Ah play some during de Stone Age, even tryin out fuh de national schoolboy team tuh tour Bermuda, den ah went say a coaching recreationally includin ah Under 14 Boys Select team in Chattanooga TN.

So, how many ah we really tink T&T have a good football team an expect it to win all de time against regional opponents at least?

Before anybody answer, listen tuh de alternative: Or, most of we goin more on blind nationalism because we Trini Tuh De Bone?

Exactly what dis team do after gettin kill 4-0 by the US fuh any one ah we tuh believe what cause dat lorse get addressed? Doh even bodder goin back tuh dat 1989 game. Dat day in November was when US football parse Triniland's buh up tuh today, we still think dat win was ah flukes an we go avenge weself.

When I watch dis team play I does go back tuh when I use to coach 10 - 12 year-olds:
Control, Dribble, Pass!
Control, Dribble, Pass!
Control, Dribble, Pass!
Control, Dribble, Pass! :banginghead: :frustrated: :cursing: :pissedoff:

Wid Trini players, ah bard first touch is someting dat does . . . . well happen. It so ingrained it part ah we game. Tryin tuh dribble parse ah defense dat collapsin arong you just mean more men tuh drop beat orn. What get achieve after beatin 2 or 3 den losin de ball, only de baller know.
We cyar parse worth $hit yet de long pass is ah major weapon in we arsenal. It more like an attempted weapon.
Look at dem headers in dis larse game. We doh head de ball, we does butt it. Only KJ does do any headin.
As much as I does cuss dem players when dey do $hit which mean ah forever cussin de TV screen, dey doin dey best. When I used tuh play, regardless what dem dotish spectators use tuh cuss an say, I never used tuh go out orn de pitch tuh $hit it dong. I used tuh do mih best.
Trini football stall long time as far as I concerned. Hart is not de answer, intact, I say he losin respect an probably patience too.

Whatever de answer, until we find it I cyar go orn listenin tuh pipe dreams — lorse ah game bard den barely win de next one an start torkin about de team being back. Back mih behind. Ah cyar afford tuh watch dem games eidder where fundamental rules ah football does get violated.

Is ah life an death issue fuh me now. I too ole tuh be puttin mih heart through all dis up an dong, (mostly dong of late). Not when de West Indies killin mih softly buh not wid no song.
All dat said, when de next Warriors game?  :worried:  ::)
Damn dis Trini Tuh De Bone ting.

To those who preferred facing Panama, how allyuh feeling now?

I stayed and watched the first half between Mexico and Costa Rica. If the Warriors that played Panama had played that Costa Rican side they would have been smoked.

Football / Re: 2015 Under-20 FIFA World Cup Thread.
« on: January 18, 2015, 06:13:35 PM »
Ah had ah epiphany de udder day reading how both Jamaica AND T&T doing Caribbean-style maths tuh show how it still possible to make the world cup despite all the evidence to the contrary. Since dat day I eh feeling nuttin but sadness fuh dis Under 20 team. Tuh get put in ah tournament when your skills only so good and preparations for de tournament questionable? Steups. Den have endless expectations on yuh shoulders is patently unfair, but dat is de Trini way. I see flashes ah brilliance in terms of ball movement with dis team dat I eh see yet in the senior team. I also see poor choices dat suggest is 'me first' and not the team.  Too many of the same mental mistakes and failures in basic Football 101 that will kill we every time.

Control, dribble, pass. Do dem well and consistent and yuh on yuh way.

My epiphany simple and as long as I remember it, no blood vessels bussing an killing mih because mih expectations go be realistic from now orn.

We could argue till we blue in de face about skill, on-field decisions, dis an dat related tuh football even what it say about de bigger society. it eh go make no difference. As long as the powers that be fail to realize winning is not something dat does come as ah result of 'good luck' then we doomed to mediocrity. In udder words, a mindset change. Who see dat happening anytime soon?

Watch dem Jamaicans. They starting to realize the importance of playing quality opponents to give dey players exposure and experience. Just like they dominate Track and Field, watch dem figure out the formula to dominate regional football. Nineteen eighty-nine coming. Again. Starring de same bobolee.

if we can't put away this team then we don't deserve to be in the copa.

I agree but I still want us there.

He's playing like he did during the World Cup era. Stand around minimal effort.

T&T not impressive. Too many Football 101 errors.

Way too many balls going from our halves over the top straight to the Jamaican defenders. It's like that's the direction of the goal so we kick it there. If not that is a long ball to Jones with multiple defenders around him and no other red jersey in sight. Sometimes when the Jamaican defense stops our attack the ball doesn't have to go all the way back to our defense to restart the attack. And as usual too many inconsistent first touches that change nice passes into a a 50-50 balls. I have no problems with the halves and defenders hard tackling them Jamaican forwards who want to show how good they good dribble. Give them something else to worry about as they bounce around with the ball.

The Warriors can and should win this match. Hopefully Hart can speak to some of the basic errors iat half time and the Warriors do just that - WIN.

I watch that first 20 minutes of Jamaica versus Haiti and I say, 'yes the final orn'. It go be about so much more than just football. It go about every perceived slight Jamaicans think T&T do them. From unhappy Jamaican pilots flying for Caribbean Airlines, to the latest Jamaicans who get run back home from Piarco to dem who eh know nothing about T&T and surprised it does have murders in Triniland because Trinis supposed tuh spend their time plotting how to make Jamaicans' lives difficult. What yuh call dem wooden slats in granny windows again? Then of course you have the regular rivalry and push for bragging rights on anything we two countries touch. Yes what a final.

Then the foolishness of the TTFA and others raise it head. Dem people for real? How long did they expect players and staff would put up with the nonsense?

I say credit to the team for being able to bounce back and play tonight because I like all other fans in both Triniland and Jamaica want to see this dream final.

So, ah hope is only me who cyar believe de audacity of dem in misManagement.

Game orn.
