Football / Re: Senior team blanked
« on: October 03, 2012, 06:17:59 PM »
right, so everybody can wash their mouth now on the officials, shucks! my question is can we do anything? how practical is it for the football organisation in this country to expect the govt to foot the bill every time for every expense. Is there any way to raise funds without going cap in hand to gov't officials? are there any fund raising options? how can corporate people be persuaded to commit funds to assist the team? does the team have a plan? come on so many geniuses on this forum- people with real talents- can't we help the team? we are called 'soca warriors.net' ....
if and when the team starts to win competitions, everybody will jump on the wagon- but the team has to get there first- come on people

question: after the exec is removed- what next? didn't these same people get voted in by the same clubs that complain year in year out...some new people have to step up and enter the elections.

good luck to Gayle. sorry but I don't miss him at all...he was a divisive force in the WI team - as if they really needed any help being divided- huh!

an individual selected as a Batsmen
Ramdin is selected first as a wicketkeeper- then expected to contribute with the bat. the fact that is is out of form with the bat does not in my view reduce his importance as the best keeper in the caribbean

Cricket Anyone / Re: 2nd ODI: West Indies v South Africa
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:22:00 PM »
unfortunately I decided to watch this (another) version of the soap opera "watch us lose" written and directed by the West Indies cricket team. Imagine the #8 player- who is selected primarily as a bowler, makes 50 runs in 20 balls 'Yay!!' and the players selected primarily as batsmen #s 1-5 fail to make decent scores. and again- did you check the expression on Gayle's face. His body language is just dreadful. Not inspirational or motivational at all. what is he doing there? the man is selected because he can bat and make runs, and when he doesn't and the rest of the team doesn't his comment is:'the rest of the guys didn't step up'. Of course they didn't, so why didn't you? His attitude is each man must contribute so why isn't he? something is wrong - again- with this team. they are not playing like a team at all.

The 2-tier system of rating is sounding better and better. maybe if the Windies team has to work hard to gain the 'honour' of playing in the first tier of teams, this may mean something to them.

Shame again. How long will the WICB hear the cries of the supporters without reacting? These people must act. Cricket is dying and the crowds are disappearing....unless of course you are a stupid supporter like me and keep hoping that 'this time' we'll play to win. HA! that and GOD face! >:(

« on: March 24, 2010, 07:11:58 AM »
it's just terrible...last week he was the target of the corrupt contractors...they wanted to 'kill' him- but not really kill...you know ...
shucks he is surely being persecuted..
just goes to show you- no man is a hero in his hometown, eh?

the editor makes sure 'that news items are backed up with facts. '
that was my point- a reporter (news items) is not the same as a feature writer (opinions)
I guess I didn't say it right or something...

18
the point of not buying or supporting the printed media is for them to feel the economic impact of their reporting.
If there are no consequences to biased reporting, then it will continue- and the only valid consequence in a society that values freedom of speech is the economic voice of the people. boycott...swamp them with letters...keep them on their toes- that is the only way.
If a reporter is biased, then their editor is supposed to ensure that news items are backed up with facts. An opinion piece is just that- the writer's opinion. They are therefore allowed to be biased. How could that be wrong?
We have to decide if we want freedom or control by government. can't have it both ways.

There's a regulation in place that the government gives all stations - radio and television certain programmes that they MUST play at least so many times per day. Some days when one of these progs is on it is on all the TV stations. The stations cannot refuse these instructions. the government cannot say the people don't get the message. what they can say is that too many people probably choose to turn off our sets or switch to cable instead of watching what they put for us to watch.

19
I do agree that there are flaws in some of the media that gets out there but there is also a very simple solution- if you find the guardian writing rubbish- either write to the editor to correct the errors- or stop buying that paper and stop reading it...
freedom gives us choices..

20
I guess the analog vs digital story would be interesting if not for the  fact that the labels are all in ,,,,,,,
guess what?? yup Chinese!!!
 :applause:
who says the government doesn't have a sense of humour

21
if the chinese are doing it no locals getting anything...
when they were building the 'palace' they imported everything down to nails and hammers in containers ...
their money- their economy benefitted...
 :-X

What I would like to know is if the ACTT had any input into the design and construction. Did they ask? Or did they wait on the sidelines and grumble. Were they proactive and try to get into the picture to make sure things would be up to standard?

the answer is yes- they did write and ask to be in the meetings- yes they did submit their comments before the building was started
however the definition of 'consultation' with our ministers etc. means 'we will tell you what we are doing and you could comment- but we are not obliged to take any of your comments into consideration. we are just letting you know'

23
so what? first he says they not fair- then he says the press is free-
what's the point of talking then?
if we free then we free- hush

Cricket Anyone / women's cricket
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:16:35 AM »
I went to the uwi spec grounds on Friday evening to check out the women play cricket- let me tell you it was a great experience.
the MCC women went in to bat first, and our girls bowled and fielded in tip top form- if you see fast bowling...
ah pah yaa- English out for 56 runs - the most boring batting display- all we could think is maybe they thought it was a test match and only defensive batting- their run rate was 2 per over, until they were 6 down and then the next batswoman started hitting more agressively.
anyhow we wrapped up the runs in short short-
kudos to our T&T women cricketers- diving and rolling on the ground, bowling and that mini wicket keeper
great all round work by our ladies
