Football / Re: Who here agree with this ?
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:40:09 PM »
I will have to say I agree with that statement!! I lived in Tobago for (2) years attending Youth Camp, while I was there I played for the Camp team, I have to say the level of Football was much more aggressive strong man type playing, it was a good experience for me since I played in the past in Caroni where the play was much more focused on skill.

Also Country has more hills in most places, that why some of them are bigger than other players, and they mostly eat ground food, or for the most part eating healthy.

Look at Dwight York.

So, I guess that Yorke was from town, or all Tobago palyers are from the country?  Yorke was one of the most skillful players in the country (T and T) as a teenager, not just strong.  It is skill that scouts saw.  The Canaan, Tobago is town.  On the other hand,  Trini players come from the country and English players come from town, because the average football England youth player is far more skillful that the Trini players (but not as strong?).   Too much stereotyping and generalization in those statements.

I will not label all of Tobago as country, however, when I lived there I noticed most of Tobago has Hills, hence stronger people in general, most of the people I remember had big calves even the women.

I have seen may very skillful players that coach tell they need to put on more weight, and sometimes will not let them play on wet ground matches because they get pushed around, there is a place for skillful players, however I agree with the statement above, if you can have the best of both worlds, you can have a very skillful player with power as well.

As for English players I cant comment on that too much, I will say I think Trini players has more finesse and skill than they do, however, I think the English plays a smarter game.

I for one dont think the only problem is the coach, Trinidad has been lacking good goal scoreing forwards for years now, the best was York in his days, other then that there is not other real good forward that can score goals for us, goals win matches.

stern "FACKING" John ????

I know alot of people with not agree with me, but I dont think Stern is that good, Stern is not a world class forward.

And dont tell me I dont know Stern I went to ElDo with Stern and has been watching Stern since then, actually he use the be alot better back then, he use to score alot more goals too.

So with all that ESPN talk and so on is the game showing in the US on any channel?

FYI
it's being shown live at Nevada Smiths (74  3rd ave at 11th Street, Manhattan). There's $10 Cover charge since it's a Setanta PPV broadcast. here's a link to their website http://www.nevadasmiths.net/fixtures.html

The bars listed on the on the Setanta link are Setanta subsribers, but MAY NOT CARRY THE GAME because it's PPV, so call them first.

Okay who going? if I get a partner I in!!

Football / St Augustine cop East Zone crown
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:45:33 AM »
Source: http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_sports?id=161053902

Anyone know what happen to the old coach Kenny Thomas??

St Augustine Senior Comprehensive's footballers are having an impressive season this year. First, they topped the East Zone league competition, then lifted the Big Five trophy, and yesterday, added the RBTT East Zone InterCol title to their list of accomplishments for 2006.

St Augustine powered their way to the top of the East Zone league standings, scoring 56 goals, and are the only undefeated team in all schools competition this year. San Juan Secondary Comprehensive were unable to halt that unbeaten run, at the Larry Gomes Stadium yesterday, the Bourg Mulatresse boys going down 1-0.

The goal came in the 79th minute, very much against the run of play. St Augustine made a quick throw-in, and the ball landed at the feet of captain Elton John, who had the world of time and space to line up his shot. Even the keeper, Samuel Glenroy, who had previously conceded just eight goals, was surprised when he finally saw the ball drifting into the upper corner of his citadel. By that time it was too late.

St Augustine did not get into a good rhythm until the second period of play.

"We had to get our act together and tweak our game going into the second half," coach Michael Grayson said, after the game.

San Juan also had problems stringing passes together on the water-logged field, but had more--and better--opportunities to score. Finishing let them down.

Grayson, though, paid tribute to the losers.

"We were always going after the treble and making a clean sweep in the zone. San Juan is a good team and they played well. We have always had a fierce rivalry and this year we came out on top."
