That is why I am even more convinced that we need a foreign coach.  For the last week we have been mired in celebration and confusion.  There has been no serious discussion as to where do we go from here.

I think that the guys have to be careful that they don't come across as being ungrateful and abuse the goodwill that they have garnered.
Yes the Jamaican team were rewarded but where are they now?

I think we should have a set system for how we reward athletes.
Whether it is from giving them money to continue thier training or helping them with housing etc. However there is no set system so that it when it comes time to give any kind of reward comparisons are always being made.

Good post...

Everybody will have their points of criticism now...both good and bad...but hindsight is always 20/20. Only after the fact man go talk how we shoulda do this and we shoulda do that.

More importantly now, is where do we go from here and how do we build on the relative successes of this team. How can we in our limited capacities help to ensure that T&T are in fact represented in WC 2010.

Also who is going to put their money where there mouth is.

I am not a football expert AT ALL  but I am thinking football is a lot like life if people underestimate you, then it means that they underprepare for you. There is always serious consequences when one is not prepared. I  don't mind if England like Sweden think that we are a push over. I like being the underdog.  The pressure is not on us but on them, lets see how well they do.

I don't think money is the issue. I think the issue is that we are going to spend money on something that we will only see the benefits of in four years time. The Trini is very short sighted LONG TERM PLANNING is not in our vocabulary. We don't mind spending milions and millions of dollars on buildings so that people can look at and marvel..however spending that on people has always been a problem with us.

Do we want to get to the next World Cup or not and what are we willing to do to get there? You can't expect to invest ten cents and get a million dollars back. I think Beenhakker should be asked to stay on. We are very wealthy country we CAN PAY HIM. There will come a time when we won't need him but that time has not yet arrived.

« on: February 17, 2006, 10:04:42 AM »
Despite all the good that Jack Warner has done one can't wink their eye at something that is clearly wrong. It is like the mother of the young man who kills someone and she says in his defence 'well he was good boy, he was kind, respectful he would always help me with my house work'. Now he may have been a very good son to the mother but that is not the point is it?  It is the same with Jack Warner.
However I don't think that FIFA is going to expell him. If FIFA is corrupt as people say then I am sure FIFA knows that if Jack goes down he will certainly be taking some others along with him.

I am a rookie in this thing but how many players can they take with them to the World Cup - 23?
Is it that people feel that Trinidad won't make it to the next World Cup so if you don't get on the team NOW that it is the end of your career?
Why all this venom and nastiness?

I think after reading that article I am convinced that we need a foreign coach and staff  on the national level for a few years still.
There is a self-hate that we have among ourselves that is amazing, once there are Trinis involve in the selection of anything we cry 'foul'.
Everybody in Trinidad is an expert and everybody knows how it should be done. How do we know what the coaches were looking for?  Did they submit to you what the criteria was?  What is the right evaluation?
If they did and they went AGAINST IT then we can start talking.
Let us not fool ourselves favouritisim is not EXCLUSIVE to Brian Williams or Anton Corneal.

doh say dat nah, beenhakker will come back

Beenhakker may want to  come back but who will be willing to pay his salary for the next four years..

I am not talking aout when they arrive in Germany, I have no doubt that the officials in Germany are well organised.  I am talking about Stadium grounds HERE in Trinidad. Mr Aanensen is quoted as saying that the Soca Warriors are having problems finding grounds to train on.  Many of the stadiums are under going renovations.

Every country has a right to protect their borders how they see fit.  Some countries pose more of a problem than others.  If a person feels that it is a 'slap in the face' you don't have to visit the country.

If the players are thinking about the fete in Germany and not FOOTBALL then they are not professionals and they should not be on the team.
I understand that we must use this opportunity to showcase our culture what is really our priority we are have big press conference to showcase new web site and we have big plans to host a mini -Carnival in Germany BUT THE TEAM IS BUSY SEARCHING FOR GROUNDS TO TRAIN ON.  We are unbelievable!!!

We talk about this before and here we go again.
Ah man come from ah situation where he niehgbours, family an frens talking trini,
he go tuh school an eh no brain, pass fuh ah junior sec an realise he is ah good athlete an train hard an ting.
One day he get ah break an make it tuh de world stage.
Man put mike in he face an ask him. " So wha yuh put dong yuh success to an wha yuh tink yuh go do in de future ?
Answer : ' Ah did train hard in mih yute an ah want to be de best runner in de world , betta dan Ato "

He niegbours, family and frens glad fuh him an dey understand everything he say an not cringing.
Yuh think any of dem studying whether he speak, sorry spoke acceptable english or not?
De youth man priority was to win at his trade.
With exposure people learn to adapt to new things and in time that same youth will probably speak better.

Personally I used to be bothered by the badspeak in the past but now with the exposure I have had, once ah man has his self pride has a high level of self esteem and is comfortable being himself. Who the hell are we to question how he wants to speak ?

I don't think one should question a person's worth on how he speaks.  Personal development is important and that it should be part of an athlete's training.

I also see it affectin them getting a "good" as opposed top a "better" contract.....When you go on trial you have to remember it is still an interview we have talented guys yes...and there play should do the talking.....but they still have to impress their manager/coach with appearance and abilty to communicate effectively....you will be representing him for picking you as well as the club when you speak.....
So speaking in we dialect is one thing...but then as in an interview for TV or for a job(contract) you have to speak accordingly....

That is true but for many of the athletes Standard English is a foreign language.

I heard Ken Butcher's comment and I think some of what he said is very valid.  It is not going to be a walk in the park. England wants to win the World Cup we are HOPING to get to  the second round..different priorities.
I think he was just trying to put everything in perspective for us the public.

funny how nobody had a problem wid the name ''soca warriors'' when we was playin dominican republic. Wagish behavior indeed ;D

It is so typical of Trinidadians, everybody wants their pound of flesh.
I don't understand Mr. Glassgow, is the marketing of Trinidad and Tobago music the responsibilty of the TTFF? So what is the job of the Ministry of Culture? There will be interest generated from us being there and I am sure that interest has already been generated what are the authorities doing to capture that?  That is what he should be arguing about.
He is also saying that by adding the name Chutney that it will ease the divide between the races?  Is he for real?
I think they should drop the name Soca and leave it as Warriors.

I have not written about Jack Warner to the different organisation. Then again that might be viewed as a cowardly act but I never accuse people of anything unless I have all the facts. However when I do..watch out!!!
You may have all the facts and congratulations to you for writing the different organisations, that was a very brave and  forward thinking thing to do. Question, what was their general response to your letters?

Football / Re: Soca Warriors to Government: Your turn to deliver
« on: January 11, 2006, 10:30:40 AM »
[In my dohtish mind I thought that they would be playing for Trini pride, they already being paid to play, the last two matches they get double pay. Now they want ttff and Gov't to reward them separately.Plus Jack ask we to put money in a fund for them. My opinion is that ttff and Gov't should come together and give one reward and not separate ones.
Quote

Ecuse me it is government WHO SAID that they would reward them.  If they expected the team to play just for the pride of it then they should not have MADE ANY PROMISES,simple as that.
Ask yourself this question  people who offer themselves to serve in government don't they say it is because of love of country and wanted to serve, but DO THEY DO IT FOR FREE?

Football / Re: Soca Warriors to Government: Your turn to deliver

?
Jack and TTFF did not really give them any money. What they did was take the money that FIFA give them and some how allocate it to the players either now or in June or when ever FIFA give them the money.
this is all semantics
Ok that could be true but the point is ...they have not gotten ANYTHING from their home county. It is a tradition with us, an athlete does well,  all he gets is a slap on  the back, a' thank you', we may name a stadium after him and after that  we forget about him. For example: Hasley Crawford, we know the story about him, but they named a stadium after the gentelman, if he wants to to see any event that is  being held there, HE HAS TO LINE UP like everybody else and fight for a seat.  Somebody has got to break the cycle.

I am not too sure about the governement getting involved, just remember politicians play a game call politics.  They are not doing this all because of the love of football.  Also can anybody honestly say that croynism, corruption  doesn't exist in politics?
I don't think we will get thrown out of the World Cup because I know for a fact that is not something the governement is not willing to risk.

Football / Re: Tickets again ?
« on: January 05, 2006, 06:15:07 AM »
I think it is very clear what is going with the tickets.
The first interview that Jack Warner had he said that Simpaul Travel agents were the official agents for tour packages, that Simpaul paid money to a European agent for tickets and he also said that he didn't know where the other travel agents would be getting their tickets from.  Now you see Jack Warner played on the ignorance of people.   We have never been to a World Cup so we assumed that the 8% of the tickets for the individual games (that we were told would be set aside for Trinidad) would only be with Simpaul.  I mean Jack Warner used the word official. The travel agents didn't know that they  could go to FIFA approved agent/s in Europe and bid/purchase tickets. Of course conflict of interest Jack Warner/Simpaul Travel  is not going to tell his competitors that they can get tickets in Europe. He is going to make it look as if people can only get tickets from Simpaul. I can see why he was so angry after the Lisana story because it now meant he would  have to go into greater detail about the tickets, where he got them from and  he would now be forced to admit that other travel agents can get tickets from the same source.  Now you know when you tap into a man's profit what happens?

I am getting a bit annoyed at you. I agree that no one wants to get jump on board a  'sinking ship filled with rats' but if you ALLOW someone to have free reign of course they are going to solidfy their power, especially if their actions are not above board. That is a given. You are saying that it is because of what the TTFF is NOW no one will get involved.  I am saying it is the TRINI mentality NOT to GET INVOLVE PERIOD!!!!

Football / Re: Warner's Address - A response to the allegations
« on: January 04, 2006, 07:14:24 AM »
I don't think anybody in Trinidad can escape blame.  We still see sports as a leisure activity.  We don't see it as a business and getting people to come on board is very difficult.  We are willing to wait and sit back and see other people get invovle and depending on how it goes we either sit on the side saying how it should be done or jump on the bandwagon.  I will never forget when George Bovell won bronze at the Olympics myriads of companies were 'congratulating him'  the newspapers, clearly using the opportunity to advertise their company and if it was not for big -mouth Anil threatening to sue, they would not have stopped.
So allowing Jack Warner to run football the show for so long has made him who he is.
