Football / Re: The stadium turn out saddens me
« on: January 20, 2007, 01:10:30 PM »
This tournament was NOT advertised properly, becuase I was more aware of it by reading my Soca Warriors forum right here than in our media. Small promotions in written media are not enough to encourage a big following, particularly when competing with carnival.  The attendance is low, most of the faces the same, but we Trinis have never gotten excited about our teams playing in any regional competitions anyhow. It's the same with cricket - look at the regional games against each other and the size of spectator crowds versus if the West Indies playing Soth Africa let's say!!!! We tend to look down on a team sport that is taking on a smaller island every time. On another thread though, there are some real great performances coming out of the new and young team of ours and I look forward to following their progress over the next 4 years (Roberts and Tinto in particular).

You  know I just read the article and what no-one has commented on is: how come the English players (and I usually support England by the way) discussed the "wink" right after the match in the bus?  They could NOT have seen the infamous wink from where they were standing on the field whatsoever and should have only found out about it in their hotel rooms later that night. For Gerrard to say they were discussing it immediately following the game is absolute madness and could have only come from speculation when maybe Sven or McLaren mentioned they'd seen a replay from their changing room monitors.  We all had to await replays via the internet days after the match, even though we all were watching the drama unfold live on our televisions. I cannot for one second believe that even the substitue bench could have picked it up so fast, as all eyes must have been on their Rooney has he slowly took the walk of shame. Sorry, that's a major lie in his book to begin with or some serious trouble making in the brewing!!!!!

It's funny how everyone is suddenly finding ways of excusing Zidane and forgetting his earlier sending off against Togo and his headbutting in a Euro game and his stamping on a Saudi player in the last WC !!!  Me thinks the guy just can't control his behaviour and isn't maybe the demi-God he is always made out to be! The best comment I've heard to date about his loss of self control is that Materazzi probably told him French Fries weren't from France......... :rotfl:

Football / Re: Italy vs France
« on: July 09, 2006, 04:15:06 PM »
Disagree that it was a boring Italian win.  The first half was pure magic, so what if the French were the better team in the second half.  The Italians showed this WC that they can play an attacking game and not always sit back in defence. France's fault was that they didn't substitute a dazed and ineffective Henry earlier in the game. Also how can we argue that the ref had to check with the fourth ref before handing out a red card, when throughout the tournament the main criticism is that football has not kept up with modern technology.  A head but in the play of the ball is a red card, much less one off it! Congrats to Italy this time, but watch out for the Soca Warriors in 2010....

I want to agree with ladywarrior and say a BIG THANKS to the socawarriors.net and warrior nation orgnisers for making this trip to World Cup a very special one.  Our footballers did us proud, our fans were magnificent, but those of you who manage this site and those who add in their opinions have certainly stirred in as much flavour and excitement for us all as well.  To the "main men" who organised tickets to the games and co-ordinated jerseys, etc...you were brilliant and I am only sorry that I did not get to meet up with any of you in Kaiserslautern, though I do understand that Tallman and Fli and a couple of others "bounced up with my 2 daughters in a park in Nuremberg...

« on: July 03, 2006, 08:57:18 PM »
The dropping of the Offside rule was achieved in international hockey (field hockey for you overseas Trinis) and the game immediately picked up pace and became even more of an attacking one, opposite to what most people figured would happen.  It did not create the positioning of a defensive player at the goal line and instead allowed ALL players to run the field much more freely.  Goal scoring actually did increase and the game became a lot more exciting for the spectator as well.  Football should definitley take note of this....

Go Soca Warriors (oh, ok Soccer Warriors?)..........you made us soooooooo proud.  Ended up in St. James and the fever there spoke volumes for our feelings.  Favourite quotation of the night: "A draw is a WIN !!!"  Go guys, rest carefully, train diligently and take Thursday one step at a time..... England is still only a team of 11 men just like us!  Thought Carlos brilliant as were Shaka and Sancho....

Sorry to change the subject but what is a 'waggonist'?  I have wanted to ask this for a few months but felt too stupid to ask.  Is it something to do with jumping on the band wagon or am I off the mark?

My second team is T&T and that's because of 'Me mum' and also because I see how passionate you all are about your team.  Beenhaker has recently said that T&T won't win the world cup, that may be the case but you will win a lot more, respect and the support of millions from around the world.  You already have the support of the Scottish nation (including my wife) and there are more scottish people around the world than in Scotland.

Port Vale Chris, I think the waggonist talk is aimed at people in T'nT who couldn't care less about our football while we were down, and now that we are in the WC, they are coming out of the closets and proclaiming to know more about the game than everyone else.  I might be wrong but that is how I read it.

I was told by TTFA that there is a bar code on each ticket that will be scanned on entering the stadia that has hidden, one's passport number and date of birth so I should walk with a photocopy of my passport (not real thing) to games.  Don't know if that is the truth but double check with someone about using tickets not in your own name..........

Football / Re: Calling all Rookies and Waggonists.......
« on: May 20, 2006, 05:50:07 AM »
I really don't like all the "waggonists" talk.  Anyone who takes the time to read the site must be a supporter of T'nT....who cares when or how often he/she posts a comment. I have been supporting our football since my grandfather played many moons ago, (before anyone on the current team was even born), have been to nearly every game since 1988, but only found out about the site last September when I migrated for a year. TT encouraged me to sign up after meeting me at the Iceland game, but I read messages every single morning BEFORE the morning newspaper and yet my name still says: New Warrior.  I know at least 2 guys who no longer bother to post anything, becuase they are fed up of all the waggonist talk. Who cares, when we are in germany we want as many Trini supporters as possible to fly the flag...

You guys real baddddddddd....if they were any other way, you all would be saying ; "Lordy, de gyul tick for so. She go bounce me down!"  Go Trini girls go....

I wondered where that banner was, seeing I lugged it all the way down from London by myself ;) Got lost in the crowd and headed over to where we were originally supposed to meet up and was stuck with a crowd of 11 of us, so hard to move again.  But the flag looked real impressive from where we were...missed being within the whole WN section though!!!

Football / Re: WINDIES ANTHEM TO PREMIERE AT PERU GAME
« on: May 09, 2006, 04:19:25 PM »
While I can agree that we should keep a cool head about this anthem problem, I 100% believe that it should not eclipse our own T'nT efforts either.  The Cricket tours are definitley the correct forums for such an united West Indian front, not T'nT's football games.  However, to all of us out there who will be in the WN group tomorrow, or elsewhere in the stands, the one way we can voice our true feelings is to SING out loud when OUR own anthem is sung.  We Trinis don't seem to know how to join together loudly with our anthem as other people do and we often shift around and make small talk or even stand with our mouths shut tight. Let's show our support for our team and our country and our anthem by all singing our anthem out strongly tomorrow.............

Great job Jay... just returned from UK last week or would have made a detour just to see your flag. Think I might have freaked out if I'd simply passed by and seen our flag flying high there!!!!

Shaka has always been my top choice, but it is true that his form is way off the target recently. I have watched him in all of his last 4 or 5 games and he has been pretty weak. Those balls he has stopped have been straight to him and other times, he is coming off his mark way too easily.  He might be playing in the top league compared to the other non-starters, but maybe he is now exhausted from a major long and intense season.

You know guys, I really like the fact we are going to promote we culture in Germany, but it worries me that the government, or is it the TTFA, are losing sight of the real reason we are there in the first place.  I want as much money spent as possible, backing our guys on the team: spending it on supplies, training, coaching, accomodation - anything to make their efforts in the WC as easy as possible. No more Sando-based type antics of 1989!  Cultural support should not come at the price of the more important backing our fellows need and somehow, I jus don't feel the big guys at home will know how to do both!!!!

Please let me know what your experience is next week.  I had to use their embassy in Trinidad last year and I had to supply so many documents that I had to walk with an overstuffed buff folder and then my interview was conducted over a megaphone, through a glass window, and broadcast for everyone else in the room to hear my information.... a very unsavoury experience and quite intimidating!

I think the WN organisers are simply superb. I'd been having problems signing up, then paying membership and ticket dues, though I'd been a silent online follower since September last year.  Thanks to the WN folks, who gave me extra PMs and emails they sorted it all out. Great site, fun message board, devoted followers... makes being so far from home quite bearable!!!

I am guessing as there is no way of opening up to pay for these tickets yet, that the site will pop up as of midnight?   ???  Also, I am a paid up member of the Warrior Nation and my package has not yet arrived, so what do I do if my jersey isn't available to me by the evening of the game seeing you want us all to have them on?
