What's the MLS transfer policy during the season? Don't they have a open and close period for transfers like the european leagues? If not then this league is much more stupid than I thought.

Transfer window closes tomorrow that said there is no real player representation so as a  mls(Major League Slave) player you can be on one roster today and on another the following day..only way around it is having a big resume/assured contract as the likes of Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham etc. On the positive side DC are still in concacaf champions league so he may see more/regular football(depending on how far they make it) and DC's coach has had his eye on JJ/tried to acquire his services for a while now and asked for him specifically.

See Julius Live later on tonight/tomorrow as he speaks on his new move and more http://www.marcus-marshall.com/vid_01.html

my $0.02 and personal opinion

not only is JJ a close brethren of mine from time(St. James and St. Anthony's days) but we were teamates last season at TFC and I must say that he is one of the hardest workers on the field and more in his spare time..when other people would call me to lime/play playstation etc..most of the time when he linked me,it would be to take him to the caribbean food store to get home grown ingredients(dasheen, yam, pumpkin etc) to make healthier/strengthening foods(his words) and to put in extra gym sessions/run stairs etc(which sometimes i would duck him..lol..JJ if you happen to read this..hard luck dey but i couldnt deal with all da running sometimes meh boy)..he would always ask the senior defenders after every practice what he was doing wrong etc etc...also to add to my point I feel that he's been a victim of 'raw deals' and unfair club dealings.(why would a CERTIFIED coach trade a proven mls mvp and a draft pick spot for a player that i quote 'can't keep 90 minute focus' and a few allocation dollars) what a bag of rubbish.

That said he's a strong minded person, full of positivity and determination so what is for him won't pass him.
When he gets a chance under the present national team coach I'm sure he'll make it count.

Football / Re: Glen signs with San Jose Earthquakes.
« on: May 26, 2009, 09:48:39 PM »
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes announced Tuesday that the team has signed Trinidad and Tobago national team forward Cornell Glen. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. He will count as an international on the Earthquakes senior roster.
"Cornell brings a change of pace to the team that we don't have right now. He is a good-all around player," said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. "He has been able to score goals at the international level and we are looking forward to seeing the impact that he makes in MLS."

The 5-9 forward made his Trinidad and Tobago national team debut in November of 2002 against St. Kitts & Nevis. Glen has been a regular with the national team since 2002 and in 2006 he participated in Trinidad and Tobago's first FIFA World Cup, where he appeared in all three of Trinidad and Tobago's matches. Since his debut with the national team, Glen has made 55 appearances and notched 22 goals.

Glen, 28, returns to Major League Soccer after spending the past few seasons playing in his home country for San Juan Jabloteh. Glenn played in MLS over the course of three seasons from 2004-2006 with the MetroStars, FC Dallas, Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids and Los Angeles Galaxy. He scored six goals in 18 games in his first year in the league with the MetroStars in 2004. He has made 45 career appearances in MLS, and scored 12 goals and notched six assists.

The Trinidad and Tobago native made his professional debut in 1999 with Trinidadian club Futgof. After two years with Futgof and a short stint with Portugese club A.D. Sanjoanense, Glen returned to his home country and joined San Juan Jabloteh. In his two and a half years with Jabloteh, he helped lead the team to two consecutive league championships in 2002 and 2003, while scoring 37 goals.

To comply with MLS roster rules, the Earthquakes also placed forward Davide Somma on waivers.

Transaction: San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) - Earthquakes sign F Cornell Glen. Earthquakes place F Davide Somma on waivers.

I can't help but comment on some of the posts in regards to the fact that this is Glen's 6th MLS team as some sort of measuring stick to him not being a player/striker of quality...I'm not debating the fact that he's been inconsistent and injury prone but don't ovelook the FACTS which are...1.after joining the then metrostars and lighting it up in his first season..he never expected to get caught up in a trade/bargaining whirlwind at the end of that season which as a player in the mls you have 0 control over(1 day you're in kansas city and the next day you have to pack up everything and be in san jose for a game the day after that..just ask Scott Sealey)..2.He never played a game for dallas...was merely caught up in another trade move which involved other players/draft picks etc 3.his worth went up after the world cup/having it on his resume etc and the gm of the galaxy at that time felt differently about that even implying that he was making too much before playing in the world cup..so that LA situation was bound to crash and his injury situation didn't help much. 4. his former LA coach has trouble scoring goals/winning games with his present team..of all the player's number he can dig up..he pulls Cornell Glen out his phonebook. 5.Before different leagues started this year several teams where VERY keen in having Glen's signature on paper/services but couldn't afford him(see the beginning of fact 3) and that list includes former coaches and employers.

Say "his first touch is poor" and "apart from his speed he's rubbish" and all the other stuff  but don't imply that because he's been with 5 mls clubs before this he's not a quality player/striker or that he had serious control on his 'bouncing' around.

He didn't get call back because he wasn't playing well...he hasn't been playing consistently well fort
a long time  ...he may get the odd goal here and there but he is lazy ...he's very strong has some pace
but not as quick as he used to be .... I hope he comes back and proves me wrong...at this point I'm looking
for Latas to call back people who wanna work for the cause and will leave it on the pitch for the team...
hence Avery and Darryl Roberts to me would seem better call ups

1.and you know this how?  2.did his hamstring injury not play a part in his lack of playing time with st. johnstone this season? 3. were all the players that have been selected for the national team under the past coach playing well for their respective clubs? actually don't bother answering that cause some of them weren't even attached/playing competetive football 4.did his strong performances and contribution of goals not help in st.johnstones promotion to spl next year?  5.did u miss the thread prior to this one regarding this this same player and question(s)? 6.who's naturally left footed, quicker and has more international experience than him in that position?

For the people making remarks like 'what kinda unprofessional club uses a fan forum to sign a player etc etc' look at it from another angle....

1.if you have a decision to make between two talented footballers competing for the same position at your club and they both have had successful trial spells but DUE TO THEIR LACK OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE CLUB/INTERNATIONAL LEVELS..you have to find another way to make a decision on signing one of them,so you decide to use character traits/off the field behaviour as a means of separating both players

2..who better to inform you of a player that has been marketed to you as one of the most talented/popular footballers to grace his country, than the people of that country

3.if you're looking for personal traits/off the field behaviour etc a fan forum..ESPECIALLY this one.. can give you alot of harsh/behind de scenes info that a former employer/players agent/former coach may have doctored or not given you to help the player's image and increase his/her chances of landing a contract

4.Look at the two players mentioned in the thread..you can't ask questions like 'well how come drogba and stern can still get contracts even though so much negative stuff is said about them on the forum' etc etc the answer is simple cause they're PROVEN/ACCOMPLISHED footballers on the club/international stage so their off the field behaviour/character traits don't come into serious consideration when potential signings come about.

As forumites of this site we all can agree that at some point a thread or post by a fellow forumite/moderator has been more informative on a particular topic than that of a 'supposed' reliable source..media etc

So If it was me and I didn't know much about a player from a particular country and I was on the verge of signing him/her.I would be extremely glad if i recieved information that saved me from making a overall bad investment REGARDLESS of where that info came from.

My opinion

I am of the opinion that if the powers that be keep the present group of U-20's together they'll be a force(literally and figuratively speaking) to deal with on the concacaf/rest of the world stage in time to come..we(a group comprising of foreign based and local players) played another practice game against the U-20's this past thursday and were SPANKED 5-2  :'(. If the skill, technical ability and VERY physical nature they displayed during thursday's game is and continues to be a regular thing, then as a team they're on the road to successful things.

The third and fourth place game was entertaining(caledonia vs north east stars)Smithy(Conrad) and Tiny(Kareem Joseph) scored for cali and north east tied it up around the 90 minute mark, cali went on to win the game on penalties.
The jabloteh vs rangers game was equally as entertaining(apart from the player that got sent off from rangers, his tackle that led to red card and his behaviour after was ridiculous)

My number one question after this game was and still is...how is it that the #7 for jabloteh can't make/be selected for the national team?? especially with the deficiencies that the team has in the mid field department when the over seas pros are not in the squad ( he didnt stop running all game, reads the game well, was one of jablotehs engines in the middle, passes well, doesn't shrug off his defensive duty, leader on the field and can score goals.

One of the most entertaining games of live football I've experienced in a while!!
Smithy(Conrad Smith) man of the match,he was invisible for spells during the game but made up for it by scoring a beauty(on a keeper who was having a really good game) to level the game at 2-2 and he also had a boot in each of Cali's goals. Alot of people give Denzil Theobald a earful and talk him down etc etc but he had 9 out 10 game yesterday and was Cali's engine in the middle, getting back and defending and most noteably his change of direction, defensive killing pass that started Cali's game winning goal.

I must admit that the game winner was a bessss goal,3 touches from the korean #19 and de americans on the floor crying(she controlled with the first touch, left the overweight american defender for dead by cutting to the inside of the defender with her second touch and the third touch was a low shot to the american goalie's right which she didn't have much chance of saving). the #19 for korea is what de definition of super sub is.lol

It wouldn't surprise me if certain players are over aged but it's not impossible for them to have that level of football technique and skill at that young age either.

a trini would never do this.

ATHENS, Oct 29 (Reuters) - A Greek soccer player committed suicide after being left out of the squad for a
domestic cup game with Olympiakos Piraeus, police said on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old, Yiannis Koskiniatis, jumped off a 12-metre cliff after being omitted from third division Diagoras Rhodes’s squad to face the national champions in a fourth round match.

Police said the midfielder had left a note at the top of the cliff that read: “Being left out of the squad was a great injustice. I cannot take it any more.”

Koskiniatis had played 61 times for Diagoras, scoring four goals, but was sidelined all season following an operation on his injured left leg. Local media reported that the club had sent him for psychological help.

He went missing around midday when his team mates met for their pre-match lunch. His motorbike was found at about 1700 local time in the Profitis Ilias area just outside Rhodes town.

The news was relayed to the Diagoras players during a brief delay in the match, which they lost 3-2.

I tell Scotty since de season when he score about 16 goals..'when this season done and yuh money don't go up,call yuh agent, tell him yuh wanna sit down for lunch and discuss a few things, sort out de time and place, then go and buy de biggest pad lock yuh could find, put it one of yuh football socks and if after de convo he can't assure you yuh money will go up let him talk your agent on de side Mr. Padlock Sock'.

still no stern no peace and a depleted strike force go always mean we lookin for goals from the middle

James have no left foot, yuh ever see him play?  Right now julius best opportunity to make the team is center defence because makan hislop is ah goat.  Julius is not a wing back but if push come to shove he could possibly play right back.

why colin samuel cyah get ah recall?  is not like we have depth at the left midfield/left wing position.

because he did not show up for the Jamaica game and has yet to do anything at his new club to merit selection.

next.....

Just a few things that you should know..

Collin scored on is debut in a St.Johnstone uniform..his second game he picked up a hamstring injury and has been struggling with it since

As for the Jamaica game..the TTFF sent him a Eticket and flight details(a day and a half before the game) in Glenroy Samuel's name and didn't get it rectified till the day of the game at which point Toronto Fc said fifa date or not they're not releasing him

so as for the topic of your thread to some extent i agree with his name being there cause presently he's not fit..but the other points you listed are not on point

Very BIG career move on your part Collin.

1.YOU and YOUR FAMILY come FIRST. f**k away with what anybody say or have to say
2.cause that shit excuse for a football field that yuh was training on 4days a week on would've eventually mash up yuh knees
3.if yuh waited till de summer transfer window to ride out yuh woulda end up stuck on de waiver list and picked up by de highest bidder or bouncing around de shit mls league for de duration of yuh contract(1 yr)
4.yuh free of de mls shackles, special set of laws and loopholes that ultimately work against every player in the league unless yuh name is david beckham, juan pablo angel, lauren robert etc
5.playing outta position in mo johnstion robot formation was slowly and surely killing yuh game
6.St.Johnstone waiting on yuh with open arms hurry up and reach back scotland and do it like how yuh did it at Falkirk

And when yuh ready to beat de pension system in Scotland come back to toronto cause with de trend of 31 and 32 yr old signings recently it seems like all it takes is a couple good seasons/performances in a bigger league and yuh could collect some good retirement money here.

In an attempt to put de thread back on topic...

Glen has played three games with Leeds and in his own words 'I didn't do much in de 1st two games..this wheather real dread and was a huge part of why my performance wasn't what it could've been, but i adjust to de cold now,so de last one i will mash up  and we will see what happens from dey after here I going down Tranmere for a two weeks with dem and then head back home' and in his final game as a trialist with Leeds he definitely did 'mash up' not only by his account of his performance but also from people that were there watching the game..

Since his arrival at Tranmere he's been causing quite a stir with a solid performance in his 1st game and scoring a double in a 3-2 win against Wrexham last friday..he plays his 3rd game with Tranmere on wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
