What about Track & Field / Re: World Juniors 2024
« on: September 05, 2024, 10:01:50 AM »
Ato, you're the voice of the sport and our leaders in track should be listening to you given your experience and vast knowledge in the sport. I'm sure US Track and other nations would pick your brain from time to time but it seems like we don't value your expertise. Completely ridiculous!
The thing is we have the talent but we lack the wherewithal and structure to properly develop the youths or even use the facilitates to our advantage.
We need fresh minds with vision to start with the younger ones in various types of events. I coach HS soccer and I'm always amazed at how many boys and girls are participating on their schools T&F teams. They're out there practicing Mon-Fri and the meets are vibrant. I could be wrong but there wasn't that high level on involvement when I lived in T&T, at least not at my school. No wonder why we're underachieving or going through another drought.

@Chelsea thanks for the update and while I agree we have sometime I would prefer to see us make the appointment within the next 2-3 months. The coach should be given time to properly access and scout players, even get a few games in before WC qualifying. I just can't deal with the last minute thing and the coach having to experiment during qualifiers.

We need to make the appointment soon though, WC qualifiers is around the corner. The coach should have a little time to get settled and prepare.

It's very likely the US will appoint Pochettino as their next manager, at least those are the rumors from credible sources. Another country in Concacaf showing ambition and a winning mentality.

All those tracks across the country and nothing to show for it. Is our admin is slacking? I don't really follow track like that so I can't be critical but I do know our performances used to be much better in terms of competitiveness.

I heard Viera's name mentioned in a list of candidates for the US job. I heard say on a recent interview that he'll like to coach a club either playing or has the potential to play CL football. He's a guy that won't put up with our administrative mess :rotfl: in fact most of those foreign coaches won't. I say we bring back Hart, he understands our culture, issues and is solutions oriented with the best interest of the nation in mind. Just pay de man on time because that's unprofessional.

Let's see there's Hart, Yorke, Southgate, Klopp, Berhalter, Moyes, Pochettino, van der Gang, Zidane, Latas, Pep could be in his last year at City, Canada's women's coach could be looking for something soon.....we have options

Do we typically average 17 athletes at these games? I thought we had like in the 30's in the past.

Maxg, thanks for sharing the journey of your kids competitive swimming experiences. I enjoyed coming on here from time to time and reading all of it. Through the ups and downs, moments of adversity and triumphs, I'd say they've been very successful in the sport and one day they'll look back and feel very proud of their accomplishments. It goes to show how important positive support without micro-managing from parents can impact in their achievements.

I wish them all the best in their future endeavors :beermug:

Looking forward to the grandkids stories ;D

That Turkey vs Austria game was the most entertaining game so far. End to end action to the last minute, Austria didn't let their foot off the gas but could find the equalizer.

@Chelsea4life I read yesterday that he resigned from PSV back in May 2023 as you indicated. Totally missed that! Anyway he took the Utd assistant job, I feel he'll be next in line to replace EtH.

McCarty is reported to be leaving so Utd might be looking for a coach to work with the forwards. They contacted Van Nistelrooy but he's the head coach at PSV and Burnley's interested in him so I doubt he'll want that gig. Dwight send yuh resume!

Pep started with the Barca reserve team and went from there....if Dwight had applied himself with the ManU youths I'm sure he would be on the current first team staff coaching the forwards at the very least. He had a decent gig in Australia but I'm not sure what led to his termination.

100 kids??? That alone is a huge responsibility and logistical nightmare for a team in an international tournament. I find it hard to believe a team would travel to the UK (with that amount of people) without housing accommodations. With big tournaments here in the US hotels within a 20-30 mile radius are already booked up 2 months prior. We must be missing critical information here.

As much as I try to be an optimistic supporter, I don't have much faith for 2026. I feel like we'll compete and lose out in the final stage again, that's how it typically goes. We need to revamp our scouting and find players who can be difference makers when it matters most. I love the fact that we're organized defensively but we have to step it up a level to play on the front foot more. I thought we truly came alive after Canada scored and if we were playing like that a bit more throughout the game our chances to win might've been better. It takes a certain level of fitness and technical ability to play that way.

Caught the game from the 30 min mark. We seem to be throwing Canada off with our slower style of play. Goalkeeper looks solid too.

Well said, it seems like we're not using our resources to scout players effectively. I mean we can't bring everybody but we can certainly identify the top 2-3 to target who can help/fit in to the team then go from there.
