What ever happened to schoolsoccernet ? that was a decent site.
Schoolsoccernet has been "absorbed" into SchoolSportCentre. We are looking to provide similar coverage for all Secondary School Sports just like we do with football. A long journey...but we are trying to take the steps to get there.
In terms of quality of coverage we hope you notice no real difference between Schoolsoccernet and Schoolsportcentre. Any feedback you can provide will always be appreciated.

Football / Re: Coach Latapy's grade after 2 games in de Hex
« on: June 12, 2009, 08:54:48 AM »
Wow...still amazed at a coach with 2 defeats in 2 WCQ matches...one being at home (ok so the other was in the Azteca...but against the worst Mexican team in years) can get a B or even a B+ from the football gurus out there.....I am willing to wager in any other serious footballing nation the assessments would not be so generous.
my grade for him: C-
IMHO...goal scoring was never our real problem...reference us scoring in everyone of our last 15 internationals with the exception of the US game in the US. To his credit he did give Tinto his chance and thus far this has proven to be a good decision.
Midfield... the team tries to at least keep its shape for longer periods in the game than before...I will attribute that to Latas. With that one step forward he takes one back with keeping Yorke on the field for 90 mins when he clearly cannot last the distance...and for God's sake don't even think about starting without Birchall if Yorke is also in midfield.
Defense...It may still be early days yet, but the stats will show 5 goals conceded in 2 games...and if we are honest with ourselves we were fortunate not to concede more in Mexico (big up Ince). We seemed to have gone backwards in this department (individual mistakes or not).
Tactically...I beg to differ with those saying he has not been out coached. Costa Rica came with a game plan...executed...and we never really seemed to adjust. How many times did they try to exploit our right side of the field and nearly succeed before they eventually did...a coach does not have to wait until half time to make adjustments on the field. Against Mexico every serious attack seemed to be going through Blanco...what adjustments were made there.
Substitutions...I think we have beaten that dead horse.
No warm up games....no comment
I still think Latas is the right coach but at the wrong time for us...if we seriously wanted to salvage this campaign post Maturana..we needed someone with experience in grinding out results...ugly or not. I would have loved to see Latas at the helm at the very start of a WCQ campaign when he would have had more time...let's see if the powers that be stick it out with him..sink or swim.

What a talent. Trinbagonians are not used to genuine, sincere and quality patriots like Latas with tremendous and invaluable high quality international exposure who have no chips on their shoulders and without dirty agendas, getting a chance to serve and make a difference. Well said Sam....I love Latas to death just like the rest of T&T...and still support him 100%...but I still find it difficult to understand the perspective of some that this game "wasn't bad" or that "we look better"...all I see is 3 lost points from a home game.
That being said....based upon Mexico's current form...if there is any time to get an unlikely victory in the Azteca...its now...we just need to weather the "opening minutes" storm that Mexico will undoubtedly bring...

Trinity...I think you are misinterpreting where this is going. In absolutely NO WAY am I advocating to remove Latas...that would be ludicrous...it's only one game.
What I am questioning though is that no one is holding him as the COACH, accountable in anyway for the defeat. It's almost as if we seem to forget his role as the gaffer comes with the expectation of results.
Accountability in defeat is par for the course in a Coach's line of work....again IMHO

1. Costa Rica never needed to chase the game until they went one down....as much as they wanted the win...one point would have been fine for them...so IMHO them being "out of the game" for periods could be them settling to play on the counter attack.
2. So did Costa Rica
3. One could challenge this seeing that the end result was us conceding 3 at home.
4. I could give you that...although some people seem to think that Spann didn't have such an outstanding game...
Agreed individual mistakes cost us the game...but if individual brilliance brought a victory...would you not be bigging up Latas?? So why not let him take some accountability for the mistakes as well??

Please explain how tactically we should have won this game?1. We played better than this team. We kept them out of the game for long periods. Costa Rica's goals were mostly against the run of play.
2. We created numerous scoring opportunities.
3. Our defensive line up was much better and it actually suited the team we played against. Avery sound left foot and Carlos speed.
4. Span's move back into the middle was a master move. he was brilliant....or close to it He gave more going forward tonight then Birchall would have given.
Individual mistakes cost us. Not the coach's tactics.

Post the 3-2 defeat to C/Rica...many on the forum seem to either believe that this was a good start for Coach Latas and some even rated him 9.5 out of 10. My question is how can our first defeat at home in the Hex (especially given our position in the table) be seen as a good start for any coach?
Coaches generally get the praise when their teams win (Real Madrid being the exception as coaches get fired even when they win)...and also have to take the heat when they lose....
Why should our reaction/expectations be any different of Latas?
Given our campaign thus far...I will take an ugly and scrappy 1-0 win than an "improved" 3-2 defeat any day...
It's true we need to take positives from the game....but to say it was a good start for our new coach...I am not too sure.
Just my perspective looking at the daunting bigger picture.

Palos,
I absolutely agree that the team did lack leadership when El Salvador scored their first goal, but IMHO the discussion of why Stern took the penalty and not Dwight would only merit further discussion if you could have guaranteed that if Dwight took it he would have scored.
Consider if Dwight took it and missed and the end result remained the same 2-2...what would be your POV then?
I still think we lost it because we failed to adapt tactically to the game situation in the last 20 mins or so.

Peong I have to agree with you.
Historical results aside (we are living in the present) the plan would have been to take 6 points against El Salvador in our matchups. This result now puts even more pressure on us to get maximum points against Honduras (home and away).
I still am a bit miffed at the decision to bring on a forward in the last 15-20 mins in a game away from home when you are leading 2-0.
As much as we now regret Stern's penalty miss...it happens in football and for me was not reason for the defeat. I think the Soca Warriors Coaching staff got it all wrong and this in the end cost us the 3 points. Hats off to El Salvador though for never giving up on the game.

Well this is what I am trying to clarify. For a DIRECT freekick isn't the ball active after it is touched (shoot, pass)? Which means that the same play can touch the ball again if necessary?

Football / St. Anthony's Freekick
« on: September 06, 2008, 11:18:15 AM »
St. Anthony's College scored what appeared to be a perfectly legitimate goal (which was allowed) by Qian Grovsnor. There are some who are insisting that the goal should not have been allowed because he "passed" the ball to himself.
This was a direct freekick...so to the best of my knowledge the referee was perfectly correct in allowing the goal....just to be clear what is the exact ruling pertaining to this specific situation?

Football / Secondary Schools Football League changes...your thoughts?
« on: January 01, 2008, 09:40:05 AM »
The Secondary Schools Football League opens in September and concludes in the first week of December. For the league itself, most teams (North, South, East) have to play 12 games in 5.5 weeks.
This results in teams having to sometimes play 3 matches in the space of 1 week...although in most cases 2 in 5 days. Some people term the SSFL a "washing machine" league as all players have time to do is wash their kits to play the next match.
When do players get time to recover from injury? Or when do coaches get time to prepare the team to adjust tactics based on their next opponents?
Do you think that the league, players, coaches and even fans can benefit from changing up the format a bit?
I know one suggestion is to reduce the number of teams playing...(This option I am not a big fan of)
What about extending the league such that there is a mid season break for the Christmas (and end of term exams) and resuming in January?
If this were possible then we can even change the format of INTERCOL games so that they take place during the same period as the league (like the FA Cup in England) hence we can include more Senior Division teams in the Intercol?
What are your thoughts?
Please note that this is NOT a discussion on whether or not the league is of poor standard...
p.s. Happy New Year to all

Football / Re: Secondary School 2007 All-Star Team.
« on: December 12, 2007, 03:13:04 PM »
OK just to clear the air on a couple of questions...please note I am giving the explanations and not necessarily in total agreement with them.
1) The All Star team was selected based on nationwide (including Tobago) screening at different venues over the last month. Players HAD to attend at least one to have a chance to be selected.
2) Jamal Gay and Daniel Joseph were not selected because they did not attend any of the screenings despite the constant requests from Coach Shawn Cooper. The reasons for them not attending is another topic of discussion.
3) Only players from teams in the CHAMPIONSHIP division were allowed to participate in screenings. Hence no CIC players nor any other Senior Division players were eligible. There were also quite a few Senior Division players in teams other than CIC that looked good...so it's not only CIC that was affected.
On a personal note...This arguably is not the strongest possible team from the league, however the boys are going to face tough opposition in Jamaica when they play the winners of the Manning and Da Costa competitions...the very least we should do IMHO is support the players that have been selected regardless of school, zone or personal opinions.
Schoolsoccernet will provide the usual coverage of the games as they happen in Jamaica.

OK if that is the rule then I go take mih cutass...but why make it so complicated. Even the EPL Fantasy Knockout just took absolute scores and forget about transfers.
What kinda bobol is this...Los Galacticos amassed a grand total 48 points 5 more than his opponent? But somehow the records have Los Galacticos at 43 points
Actually it has 40 points, not 43.
Don't worry I am sure he will fix it in the final calculation.
no it is right..Los Galacticos made 48 points in Gameweek 10 but they had to deduct the 8 points for his 2 transfers.
Los Galacticos: At the end of Gameweek 9 Overall was 339 and at the end of Gameweek 10 overall was 379..which gives us 40 points after transfers. http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=89340

tief head.
i thought transfers didn't count against no how no matter when they made.
