I can't believe the number of people getting on Beenie's case. Be honest with yourselves - TnT wouldn't have even reached the finals without him.  >:(  Maybe a few "thanks for your hard work" wouldn't go amiss!

Cornell was undoubtedly one of the best players on the pitch before his injury. Hope it's not too serious.

What a great thread! If this was in England, the chances are the unlucky defender would have had abuse, not consolation. Brent had a great World Cup and played his heart out. Sh*t happens!  :)

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: England's weakest link
« on: March 20, 2006, 01:01:59 PM »
Gary Neville (Phil Neville, if he'd been on there!)

Next, John Terry. He leads a charmed life when it comes to not giving away penalties for Chelsea, but in the WC, it MIGHT be a different matter.

9
Samuel for me. He looked really good yesterday, and skinned that fullback a good few times

I agree with R45, he looked dodgy to me. But, as you say, it was his first match, so let's not judge too early.

As a Vale supporter, I think he should play for TnT. I would hate to see him miss out on the World Cup.

Cameroon. I really like Eto'o - it's a shame he didn't have the bottle to take that last minute penalty in the last qualifier  :'(

Football / Re: Look at what is coming at us in Germany!
« on: January 31, 2006, 10:50:56 AM »
What you need to watch with Lampard is, he's very selfish. He ALWAYS shoots on sight. So what TnT will have to do is keep someone in front of him so he HAS to pass the ball.

2010 World Cup - South Africa / Re: South Africa Rape

Their side's quite young, isn't it? I think they're building for the future. They'll be OK by 2010.

Football / Re: Three Swedes and a Trini
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:16:40 AM »
The English, from what I hear across the channel, are convinced that all they will have to do to take three points from their game against Trinidad is show up.

Back in the eighties, Port Vale had an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur. Jimmy Greaves (if you don't know, he's an ex-Spurs player who played for England in 1966) said that the only thing Spurs would lose was their way to the ground. It wasn't  ;D - they lost 2-1! From then on, every time Vale were on the telly, the crowd would be heard singing "Jimmy Greaves, you're a wanker, you're a wanker".  :rotfl:

What do you mean by "Rookie"?  Larsson, Raul and Totti have played in the World Cup before. Robben and Rooney played in Euro 2004.

According to the official site, Me Mum's not playing today, and didn't travel down with the team. Hopefully, he'll be back next game

(Bloody Bahrainis! And not even a free kick or yellow card!  >:( )

Football / Re: Which player will benefit the most and why?
« on: December 10, 2005, 05:46:31 AM »
I put this on another site -

"Since the draw was made for the World Cup, I've been thinking about this. Being in the same group as England is the best thing that could happen to him, and therefore Vale:

1) at present he's the only white player in the team, so he's a novelty - cue lots of telly coverage over here;
2) if he plays well in that group in particular, he's in the public eye, so a good move to the Premiership isn't out of the question

This all benefits both player and club. Vale will be in the public eye in the same way we were when we beat Spurs, Chris' value will rocket. I'd rather he stayed with Vale, obviously, but as Kirsty pointed out, Vale is and always will be (unless someone puts potloads of loot in) a selling club."
