Well he play 33 min

Dwight was tiring and needed subbing... was Kenwyne the best option, I dunno.  He looked a bit rusty, but put himself about and had one glorious chance of glory.

Still good to have the big man back.

Oh, and F T M.... first home win I can really remember.  Take that, you monochromatic scum.

I'm reading "In Keane We Trust" at the moment, and apart from being a good read, the quotes from Royston about his mistakes of bringing players back from long-term injuries too quickly (esp. Mr C.Edwards) really resonate.

I know Kenwyne played 60 mins for the reserves, mid-week, but I'd be surprised if he is in the starting line-up.  Bench, at a push, and only to be brought on in desperate times... and I hope we don't need him.  I'd rather he built his fitness up over time and came back fully fit and ready to cause havoc, rather than a 20 minute cameo and pulling his hamstring and out for another couple of months....

As an aerial threat he will be priceless against Mexico.

My 11 yr old would be an aerial threat against the Mexicans....  :rotfl:

it will unfair for andy reid to be 2nd, his presence in the middle has given the team more composure in the middle and i think that is acknowledged by the fact that he is 5th, even though he only started playing in February .

You could make the same argument for Jonny Evans winning the Young Player of the Year (which he is, currently)....

Either that, or its a sad indictment of the young players we have at the club.

"Hopefully something will happen because my dream is to play in England. Being brought up in the Caribbean my dream is to play for a world-class club.

"Right now my dream is to play for Sunderland...."

World-Class and Sunderland... two words I only dreamed of seeing in close proximity. ;) :beermug:

KJ was 1st, about 2000 points clear of Danny Collins... Noz was third, but >7000pts from 1st.

Update in today's Northern Echo:
Quote
ROY KEANE has invited eight promising Caribbean footballers into Sunderland's dressing room ahead of today's Premier League visit of Manchester City after impressing during five days training.

Joseph Guemsley, Leston Paul, Gerard Williams, Emilio Limon, Renaud Brisley, Akeem Brown, Andrew Murray and Devaughn Elliott have all been at the Black Cats' Academy of Light this week.

The teenagers were all recommended to Sunderland by the head of Digicel Kick Start Football Clinics, former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes, and have been put through their paces by reserve team coach Neil Bailey on Wearside.

Paul, captain of Trinidad & Tobago Under-17s, is known to have impressed, and Keane also suggested yesterday that a couple could be heading back to the North-East in the near future.

Cheers... seems like a decent kid.

Will be interesting to see they all get on in Sunderland.  By all accounts, the weather has not been too kind, so far...

Leston Paul at Sunderland?

I see that Leston Paul is the T&T representative in the 8 players that are over training with Sunderland, as part of the Digicel Kick Start clinics thing.

All I can find is that he is a midfielder... anyone able to fill in the blanks?

i agree with marcus only GK. dem english goalies does tired mess down themselves on the big stage

Robinson can't get a game for Spurs, James is on the decline.  I can't see why Capello would continue to stick with those two, to be honest.
There's a few good young English keepers coming through....Foster at ManU, Hart at ManCity.  Problem is that they make a mistake, like Carson did, and the press is all over them.  Capello needs to make a statement of intent and play them, not falling back on James, like he did with the France friendly.  Imho.

3 good goals too.

Cheers... just watched it on Setanta Canada, and the coverage skipped from 73 mins straight to 78 mins,  missing Kenwyne's goal.  ???

Minus KJ, Sunland is in the Championship Div '08-'09.

If he is not the player of the year for Sunland, something is
wrong, AND, when the League signs their new TV contract,
and Sunland gets their MILLIONS, I hope KJ is rewarded for
handsomely for HIS efforts.

Don't get me wrong, cos I agree that he probably deserves the Player of the Year and a pay rise, but I suspect that Nosworthy will get the award... he just seems to be that bit more popular with the fans, for some reason.
Kenwyne needs to be playing in a 4-4-2 with someone like Chopra alongside him (like for goal #2).  He works hard in a 4-5-1, but ultimately his scoring rate this season highlights that its not a formation that  works well with him.

that Shackleton was a good player
check here

Yeah but he is making fun of Kenwyne by comparing him to Shackelton's non-footballing prowess.

The author is just trying to be funny IMO.

Perhaps I read it wrong, but I thought he was comparing Jones's skin colour to that of Shack after he had been down the pit....  :-X

the first thing that came to mind for me was if the management of Sunderland would "like/appreciate" his celebration.

Obviously not.... (here)

Quote
“Maybe that’s how he damaged his leg,” Keane, whose substitution of the Trinidad & Tobago striker in the closing stages prompted the only sustained threat from Reading, said. “It’s very dangerous. There are a few other players who have injured themselves and I’ll be quite disappointed if he breaks his ankle.”

here are the 2 goals Sunderland scored.. Jones and ??

Wallace....

Thought KJ was immense, but he really need to learn how to time his jumps for headers.   ;)

IMHO, Keane made a bad choice in taking him off.  Daryl Murphy couldn't threaten his way out of a wet paper bag.

As someone else said, it should have been 5 or 6.  Carlos would have ripped the Reading back 4 a new hole.

Football / Re: Sunderland agree £5m move for Michael Chopra

All I'm saying is that for a little while we been hearing nuff rumours to indicate that Stern wasn't going to be Sunderland's de jure number 1 striker, and now that they sign Chopra for that amount we getting firm proof.

Totally different types of striker, though...

Chopra signing is probably more of a threat to Connolly and/or Elliott (pacey goal scorer), than Stern John (target man).  However, I would suspect that Daryl Murphy's form in the run-up to the Championship is more likely to mean that SJ will be playing second fiddle at the start of the season, at least.

Tell her don't worry. In the long run everybody will like it. It just a slightly unusual name for a girl.

Well, it was a toss up between that and Nobby Stiles.  ;)
