Football / Ipswich bid for Carlos
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:21:12 AM »
Ipswich move for Sunderland duo

Leadbitter joined Sunderland as a 16-year-old
Ipswich Town are to hold talks with Sunderland midfielders Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards about potential moves to Portman Road.

Black Cats manager Steve Bruce confirmed Roy Keane's Ipswich had been given permission to talk to the pair.

Leadbitter, 23, has made just two appearances for Sunderland this season while Edwards has appeared just once.

Keane is looking to bolster his squad after a poor start to their Championship campaign.

Matthew Buck of the Professional Footballers' Association, who represents Leadbitter, told the East Anglian Daily Times he was waiting for developments.

"We have been given permission to open talks with Ipswich. We're heading for talks now and will see what happens," he said.

Football / Re: TTFF new five Year Plan
« on: June 04, 2009, 01:52:01 PM »
Palos, you have to be a foreigner and not a trini, because the only plan that TTFF have is Bacchanal and more bacchanal. That's the plan. No plan.

Do you know how long we trinidadians playing this game, longer than the americans, longer than the canadians and we still cannot get it right yet because trinidadians like to much bacchanal.

Everyone knows we need a comprehensive youth structure with proper coaches at all levels. One or two football academies, scholarships to play football in England, Brazil  & France. Not America - poor standard.

We always seem to start over and over, jacklisting players, firing coaches. If we do manage to have a good side we not keeping them together.

We preparing to play a qualifing world cup game we playing a shit side like Tobago Unit. as a warm up match. I never see America playing eskimo united, Washington DC  under 12  as a warm up game to prepare for a big match.

We need to wake up and know what it takes to be successful and just do it. USA started after us and they have the structure, the preparation right.

I thought when L.Phillip came onboard he would put things right. But it seems like Jack calling the shots.

And another thing, them man cah keep the ball for no more than 5 mins, giving it away cheaply. We have no style of play. I always say we need to have a blue print of how we should play the game, which is like a Brazilian style and that should go out to all coaches at all levels.

So palos here what is my plan.
I plan to pray that is what I did for the last world cup  and I plan to pray again for we to get to the next one.

Because I know TTFF ha no Plan.

Well palos I agree that having Jlloyd may be an asset to us.
But yu sounding as if the rest of the forward line that we have are firing on all cylinders. So put all of them in the mix zamora and all and then decide.

That is not interesting in my part. Carlos needs to lift his game dribble inside and shoot to goal, once he start scoring more  goals he would not have these shit sides chasing after him.

Hi All,
I have seen Bobby Zamora played on several occasions in the UK and he would be a great addition to the squad. I know his 'Old man'  and I will contact him and pass the message on.

The man is a regular premiership starter at the moment.

What Morris says makes sense, but the question remains do we have the younger players capable to play at that level in front of the likes of Jones, Scotland etc.

And if we do, who would you drop from the Pros and replace with the younger players.

I would like to hear peoples views

Morris calls for younger players in Warriors line-up.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

It might seem like a simple missed opportunity now but, at the end of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, that swirling free kick from El Salvador's Osael Romero last Wednesday could come back to haunt Trinidad and Tobago.

With the last kick of the match in San Salvador, Romero chipped it sweetly and neatly out of the reach of T&T custodian Clayton Ince, stealing a point from a match that seemed destined for a loss for the home side.

From the distraught look on the faces of the T&T players, coach and fans alike, the magnitude of a botched penalty, a host of chances that went a-begging, and an inexplicable offside call must have sunk in.

But Clayton Morris, the T&T "Strike Squad" skipper during that infamous 1989 USA home match when one goal separated the teams, dashing T&T's hopes of making their World Cup debut at the 1990 finals, thinks that the result was a good one.

"I don't feel we dropped a point," the FPATT (Football Players of T&T) vice-president told the Express. "Playing away from home it's always good coming away with one point. We would say we dropped a point because we were leading, but that is different. We went in with a point, and we came back with one."

Some important issues were highlighted in Wednesday's match, some by Morris himself.

First, the T&T side comprised all eight foreign-based players in the starting XI in preference to the local-based players who trained for more than two weeks in Argentina for the match.

"I was expecting about five or six of the players who went to Argentina to the training camp to be in the (starting) team," Morris explained. "It was clear we lacked that togetherness in the team. When you're under pressure you need that cohesiveness more. That was where El Salvador came back into the game. It was a sure case of a lack of camaraderie, to make sure the team gelled."

Add to that the heavy reliance on the aging players-T&T had the highest average age of any 2006 World Cup team-which Morris agreed played some part in a youthful El Salvador's comeback,

"This team should really be training to give them the confidence, not just holding on until the foreign-based players come. It will come a time when we will have to depend on them in the near future. We have to go to the young players," Morris pleaded.

It might be easy to put the blame squarely on the shoulders of T&T striker Stern John, who reportedly asked to take the second penalty referee Marco Rodriguez of Mexico awarded the visitors. After all, he did miss the penalty that would have put T&T 3-0 up, by a mile. In football, it's often those crucial misses that hurt the guilty party in the end.

But T&T did struggle in the final 20 minutes, allowing the hosts back into the match and that, more than anything, must be a red flag for the technical staff.

"It was a sure case of youth against experience, (or) I should say youth with energy," Morris noted.

That left a "bitter taste" in coach Francisco Maturana's mouth.

The good news for T&T is that it is only the first match of the final round, which gives them some time to regroup and work out the kinks for the biggest match ahead, most notably a home clash with Honduras on March 28.

When they will have to do without captain Dwight Yorke, custodian Clayton Ince and England-born midfielder Christ Birchall.

All is definitely not lost and T&T are still firmly in the running for a second successive World Cup berth. But if, God forbid, the Soca Warriors stay true to 'Trini' form and leave it until late to qualify for 2010 World Cup South Africa, they may very well reflect on the chances that could have been from a 2-0 advantage over a stuttering El Salvador outfit.

Football / Scotland has Premier League dream

Scotland has Premier League dream

Trinidad and Tobago striker Scotland has scored 16 goals this season
Jason Scotland is confident of firing Swansea City into the Premier League after scoring 11 goals in 11 games.

The Swans are now just one place and two points off the play-offs with a game in hand over their rivals.

"I would like to think I can go on an on," said Scotland, 29, whose brace in the 3-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday took his season's tally to 16.

"We are taking one game at a time, hopefully get into the play-offs and you never know what can happen then."

He added: "It's a dream for me as a player and the whole squad to play in the Premier League.

"If we get there, it will be a great achievement for us."

"The standard we played against Portsmouth (in the FA Cup), the guys are thinking we can make it in the Premier League.

 606: DEBATE
I am completely speechless that a guy who cost us just £25k is on 15 league goals for the season already

TesoKesa

"But we don't want to get too hyper. We are not saying we can go into the Premier League and do it week in week out."

Manager Roberto Martinez paid tribute to Trinidad & Tobago international Scotland, who was also last season's top scorer in League One with 29 goals.

Scotland was signed in the summer of 2007 from St Johnstone for just £25,000 and was seen as the replacement for Lee Trundle.

Despite his goal scoring record, Scotland has struggled to win over a small section of the Swansea faithful.

But now Martinez believes he has achieved that.

"When he came to this football club, he had big boots to fill," said the Spaniard.

"But in his own way, he worked very, very hard. He is a great goal scorer, has that magic touch and is a great finisher of the ball.

"When he's in a sweet moment he is hard to stop.

"If you look at his goal scoring record, it's outstanding and he is starting to feel loved now."

But while Scotland is dreaming of promotion, he knows the Swans have to keep a cool head if they are to achieve that.

"It's our first time in the division, we're just keeping our heads down and performing as we do," he said.

"The football we are playing is great stuff."

Football / Beckham is captain for the game

Int Football - Becks given armband in Caribbean
Eurosport - Sat, 31 May 18:26:00 2008
David Beckham has been given back the captain's armband for England's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain.

Warner hopes for England legacy
The 33-year-old midfielder had doubts over his international future since the last World Cup and even after winning a place back in the squad was then made to wait for his 100th cap when Fabio Capello took charge.

Capello has been looking at who his permanent captain will be and has given the armband to Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, John Terry and will now give Beckham his 59th game as skipper.

The move could be interpreted as a means of winning favour with FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, who holds an important vote in the process of England's 2018 World Cup bid.

Beckham has been cheered and given the warmest welcome of England's players in the Caribbean and at open training and a coaching clinic fans chanted his name.

Leading England out of the tunnel at Hasely Crawford Stadium would be seen as a perfect start to the match to mark the centenary of football in Trinidad and Tobago.

Beckham has also recently shown Capello he could have a role in World Cup qualifiers next season - he set up the opener against the USA with a set-piece when chances were proving difficult to create.

Although his free-kicks and corners have never been in doubt, the quality of MLS football has often been questioned. Beckham has a match against Colorado Rapids next weekend when his England team-mates will be on holiday.

"Everyone knows it is one of the biggest honours you can be given as football player to captain your country, or even to play for your country," said Beckham.

Football / Why choose Guadelope as a warm up game?
« on: February 06, 2008, 09:23:56 AM »
I am sorry!

But pardon the expression, because that is the only way I could express my dissatisfaction.

Year after year we keep ill preparing our lads by playing all these shit teams.

While USA and Jamaica are playing the likes of Mexico and Costa Rica.

We need to be on the heels of Mexico and USA and we cannot do that by playing all these shit teams. Is best you play a better team, get licks and you know where you stand.

At this rate we will never catch up with the USA, if we continue to play shit teams like Guadeloupe, Grenada etc. USA & Mexico ain't playing these teams to prepare their squad for world cup.

Man ah doh know. Ah give up! Nothing makes sense no more!

As I said all along.

We have poor preparation, we cannot beat anybody with playing petrotrin and harvard and saying we had proper preparation.

Anton is not entirely to blame, I coach's job is made easier when he has a pool of good players.

Our players are small and not that physical.

We need to prepare our players from 5 years old with overseas tours starting at age 11.

We came up short again and the usual answer as always ' We take the positives.

Oh! Lord any fool would know that we cannot prepare for tournaments  by playing Harvard football club and petrotrin. They all play with the same style.

Peoples we must play foreign teams at all levels and we also need a national under 14 pool.

But all the best to our boys.
