Football / Re: Defending in small goal...a helpful discussion
« on: September 08, 2011, 12:41:30 PM »
Unless it have a rule before sweat, or a line mark out in front the post, chook up inside the forkin goal yes.. ESPECIALLY if is one goal come off.. I does get rhell vex when i see last man drifting out the goal.

Me eh care, who vex loss... Argue and complain and call me all kinda names while yuh on the way to the sideline to sit down and watch me sweat for a next 10-15 mins.. Winning!

It too easy to score anyway when a fat man not chook up in the goal, that is when the score in a sweat does end up 13-12.  Also, the last man position does give fat men a role in the sweat or give yuh a place to hide and ketch breath when yuh roast.

I not fraid to take bang either, anything too high I go just block wid hands. Men go understand anyway and it have no real penalty in small goal. I aint fraid to give bang either. If a man genuflect too early, is to hit him a frankoment toepee to chest. The kinda toepee where the ball have zero spin and travelling at pace, when that hit yuh so it does go "Vokkk!!". Let dem feel it.At the end of the day, the skill in a small goal sweat come in pulling a man out the goalpost to bore.. More often than not the team with the more constructive knock and run off the ball will find ways to get around that. Also, if you get a last man one v one, you could fake a shot and pull (roll foot over the ball) to the left and slap with yuh left... No matter who, dat does always pull a man out the post.

All that is the fun in small goal.

I disagree that Carlos is our most attacking player. Maybe 2-3 years ago, but not anymore.

Also, I must ask...if Pfister had put him at right back, would you have had the same issue? Because Carlos has played at right back quite a few times for T&T, and as far as i'm aware he also plays there for Ipswich. So to me, it's really not that big a deal. Right back really not that different to left back....same duties, just on the other side of the field.

I just see it as Pfister finding a way to get his best players on the field.

Football / Re: Mario Balotelli
« on: July 25, 2011, 12:05:20 PM »
As I see it when Mancini pulled him off, he showed Balotelli up but left Balo with no room to make amends. By calling him to the sideline Mancini could have publicly reprimanded him but left the onus on Balotelli to redeem himself.
Yes Bakes they are trying to sell a product but the US crowd is accustomed to the T.O's and Ochocincos.

Mancini's concern should be that he has at least 40 games that matter and that he needs to have all his strikers focused. Balotelli was playing well, having fun and relaxed and Mancini needed to recognize that and turn it to his advantage. He is dealing with a professional who is a child and he needs to turn that child into man and admonishing that child isn't always the best solution.

MEP, what u suggesting here is fine if this isn't something normal for Balotelli. He is a repeat offender. Is only so many times you could reprimand him and let him continue. He clearly not learning anything from that approach. Taking him off the fied was the right move imo.

And all this race talk nonsense about is only because he black is BS...as a matter of fact I think ppl making excuses for him BECAUSE he black, which is more detrimental than anything else.

Finally... Finally... 2 games later Argentina coach come to his senses with the formation.

Nice to see he starting with Di Maria. I personally woulda start Tevez over Higuain and play him in that narrow 2 up top and I woulda give Pastore some burn but daiz just me. Not too much in favor of dropping Cambiasso but I seeing the thinking with the way Gago does spray de ball.

Lewwe see if Argentina wake up with this setup.

Football / Re: Stern Interview
« on: July 02, 2011, 01:47:09 PM »
Say what allyuh want, John on that team.   :beermug:
at this rate we might as well bring back Latapy yes ! where we going wid Stern ?? back to the future ??

If he trains hard and is better than the younger players, why not pick him?

Yuh think Liverpool will have a big game and play Hendedrson instead of Gerrard because they looking to the future?  Or Chelsea with Sturidge and McEchrean instead of Drogba and Lampard??

If he not performing, then drop him.........but if he is doing well in training, then the man should play, talk done!!

ah loveit!!

...and he might be better than the young players at this time but  when he finally retires he may have retired more young players who gave up serious training because of lack of opportunity. It was the same when he was a young player trying to get a break ...many of us had to make noise for him because he was from El and east ...this is a cycle breds ...lets not continue to moonwalk in our approach to achieving success ....too often we seem to be going forward while sliding backwards ....just so you dont miss the pun ... :beermug:

Only in Trini....:frustrated: Breds why should young players give up serious training because of lack of opportunity? If anything they should train harder and force their way on the team. Let them step up and keep Stern on the bench or off the team. Like we are warriors in name only.  Carlos will be 33 in Oct....I guess we moonwalking with him too.

With NO development program and WC qualifiers around the corner, you have to keep in mind that this is another quick fix campaign that would require only the best players we have available. So if Stern is still the best or better than most of the younger strikers then he deserves to be on the team.

I'm not saying that it is the best formula, but it is that mixing of the young with the older guns that got us to the World Cup and it worked for other countries like Honduras as well that had Carlos Pavon lighting up qualifiers and featuring in his first World Cup at the age of 36.

I'll tell you why ...because they dont get opportunities to develop. For the same reason you mention many give up ...." If they dont measure up today ....they are forgotten ... Stern worked his way off the team in the last world cup campaign ...you do remember ? He was part of the starting line up . we played in an under 20 world Cup where de under 20 starlets today ? we keep repeating the mistakes of the past with gay abandon .... the tried tested and proven way to fail is ti take the remnants of the last losing team and build on that ...so bring back Carlos...Stern ...etc ...make it easy for the opposition who must be wondering what we drinking down here ??

Check Stern and Carlos's record recently ...they on de way down ...if you rebuilding you wont try replacements ?? why not let this coach try to develop some home talent as we eh getting any overseas contracts anytime soon ... I know countless talented players who resigned themselves to playing minor league .... all some of them needed was for someone to take a chance on dem and give them an opportunity ....

You make a couple of valid points, but this to me is a cop out excuse. the National Senior Team is NOT the place to develop talent, that is supposed to be done at club level. I love my people, but honestly too many of our talented players lack the professional attitude and discipline required to make noise on the international stage. And that "resigning themselves to just playing minor league football because they werent given an opportunity" is a prime example of that laissez-faire approach. We too quick to give up.

We have to realise that it is only some serious hard work, blood, sweat, and tears going to get us to where we want to be. And we have to have that approach on both an individual and team level.

I am all for giving the youths a chance, but only if they show the skill, effort, and fight required. To just have a player on (or off) the field solely because of his age is ridiculous. The best players should play, period. And quite frankly, if a younger player take something like that as a reason to give up and resign himself to just playing minor league, then he too soft to be on the NT anyways.  :beermug:

Word is Birchall's team-mate Don Ricketts will be in the Jamaica squad for the Caribbean cup. Why are the Galaxy releasing the league leading shot stopper for a "meaningless" tournament but refuse to release Birchall for same tourney?

Anyone ever consider the possibility that the player might not be interested in playing in the DCC? Maybe because he want to stay back and cement his spot for the start of next season? I think Ricketts can take a risk, his starting position in the goal is pretty much assured for next season.

From what I heard is that after the court case earlier this week the members (Marvin Andrews, Shaka Hislop, Kelvin Jack, Atiba Charles, Cyd Gray, Ian Cox, Avery John, Chris Birchall, Aurtis Whitley, Collin Samuel, Evans Wise, Anthony Wolfe, Cornell Glen, Kenwyne Jones and Stern John) will never get the chance to play for T&T again. Off course some of these players are to old and have retired.

Before the ruling Birchall and Glen was sure to join T&T, but that changed and Jack Warner gave clear instructions, none of the blacklisted players will get a call up until further notice.

Anthony Wolfe position is also questionable but might be an exception. ?

Latapy said none will be missed and is focus on getting the job done.

When I asked David Muhammad whats the situation he said, mind your business.

Jackula at his best again. Cah make this shit up nah

But what I don't understand is, how can you as a coach of T&T stand for this ? how can you lead your troops on the field and demand glory from this in this current state.

Sam wha's that one? Latas already come out and say he and the staff not getting paid. The man working on patriotism alone and have his salary being published to further undermine him when he not seeing it.

Imagine if Latas quit now cause he not getting paid? More than half the country will say he's a greedy theif cause he shouldna get paid anyway for the amount of crap the side playing. In fact, allyuh say that already when they publish the man salary. He cah get an assistant, he cah get the friendlies he want, he cah get the stadium trainign ground to train on but Anil padna could play fetematch there.

Try and see the whole picture and understand this thing instead of pointing fingers when we all KNOW that the root of all our troubles is Jack dictatorship. We on the board should at least be aware of that even though the rest of the country being hoodwinked everyday and being fed distractions to blame.

Let Jack hire his foreign coach and treat them the same way before we start to cry down we own all the time

Good post.

But as was said earlier, this is just level entertainment now. Hold on and enjoy the ride.

« on: July 28, 2010, 11:50:37 AM »
Any coach should be given achievements.

Qualification for Gold Cup is a must.
Winning digicel cup could be there.
Certain percentage of games won.
Favorable results against higher ranked opposition.

It eh so hard. We just have to know what we aiming at. Cuz if yuh aim at nothing...yuh very likely to hit it.

Yes. You absolutely correct. And right now, the schedule we have in front of us should be good enough to achieve the first objective on your list. After that, then hopefully we will start seeing an upgrade in the level of competition. But until we reach that stage, why so many ppl complaining? This is a good start...there is at least a bit of a plan in place. And as long as we can see improvement in each game along with favourable results, we at least moving in the right direction.

Football / Re: T&T Men's Senior Team 2010 Schedule
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:24:27 AM »
Umm...we preparing for Digicel Cup. Playing against Guatemala, Venezuela, USA and Canada not helping us prepare for a Caribbean tournament.

Allyuh want a structured plan but then asking for random friendlies. There is a structure in place if allyuh read what latas saying.

We using a local based side from now til the Digicel. During that time, he trying to impose a brand on the players which includes quick movement, passing and high pressure when we lose the ball. These games is all about getting the brand in place in time for the Cup.

After that we could look to hype up the opposition once we have that base in place, then look to re-integrate foreign based into the established style.

It's a 4 year plan in order to get to Brazil. What is the benefit of playing against bigger sides who will prevent us from playing the way we want to play and dictate the game when the purpose of the exercise is to mould the side into the habit of a certain brand? Fenwick already say that what the national side doing is not what he need his players to be doing so obviously the reverse is true. When players go back to their PFL clubs, they not playing the way Latas needs them to be playing for the country so he needs these games to get them playing the way he wants them to.

Stop rushing the programme, nah people...
the man come out and tell us what the weak points were after the antigua game so he need to focus on that for the next games. Playing against tougher opposition at this point prevents that.

Allyuh do see that in pre-season all the big sides is play against small sides? Is for this same purpose.

good point, however in order for these players to see the level at which they need to be playing at, they need stiffer opposition, playing smaller sides will help them develop the brand but quality will still be lacking.

Yuh have to develop the brand first, then try to implement it against tougher opposition afterwards. Must creep before you walk.

Cah please allyuh at all nah. Jus the other day ppl complaining we doh have any friendlies scheduled, at least play a guyana or barbados. Now that we actually have some friendlies scheduled, now they are a waste of time.  Ah mean, I not saying these friendlies are against top-class opposition but it's a start, with some semblance of a plan in mind. And that's a lot more than we could have said for the past 6 months (at least).

Them Argentine fans like alyuh worried or what?

Remember that goals count and you could well believe that if Argentina could score 3, then Germany can score 4.
Argentina attack has no real power behind it, flair yes, but power no. Germany has both.

That could easily be the other way around too.

Ah setta poachah goals Argentina score and man acting like dey dissectin teams and destryin dem.  Higuain scorin shit goals galore on shit opponents, Germany eh da easy.  Best attack, Argentina?  By what measure?  Doh leh fandom tie allyuh up, so far Brazil attack more organized and dangerous dan anything Argentina do and Germany right behind Brazil in da department.  Argentina will get run out just like 4 years ago only dis time in regulation time.

Of all the goals Higuain score, one was because of a mistake by the Mexican defender. All the rest were at the end of some good build up play. Yes Brazil and Germany's attacks are more organized than Argentina's thus far. But as kicker mentioned earlier, with Messi in the fold and the wealth of attacking options around him, Argentina doesnt need to be that organized in attack. Germany and Brazil's attacks are more organized, Argentina's is far more dynamic.

23
I see ah different occurrence. i saw him spat on the pitch. big deal.  :yawning:

He had a whole sector of pitch he coulda spit on away from the camera but chose that small section facing the camera?  come nah man......he is being his petulant self in smart.
Remember , that camera was mobile and right up in the boy grill. maybe he was ah good distance away from the thing and the camera man zoomed in.  it just didn't look malicious to me that's all.

Yes the camera was right in his face. The way i saw it tho, he was facing front the whole time, then turn twds the camera, spit, then turn away....did he spit on the cameraman? No. But did he purposely turn twds the camera to hawk the loogie? IMO, yes. Not necessarily malicious, but it looked a lil suspicious to me.

Maradona is picking his team based on his oThe back line for your information wa Otmendi RB Demichelis CB, Samuel CB, henize LBpponent. This eh England who picking de same team regardless of the opposition ! No one can predict Maradona's team ...he is keeping everyone guessing ...he eh play wid the same team twice yet.
If I was to try to pick an Argentina  team vs germany it would look like this ..
                        Romero
Heinze    Samuel   Otamendi    Burdisso

Clemente Rodriguez    Mascherano   Pastore   Tevez

  Messi     Higuain
Pastore just waiting to show why he is here .....

Clemente Rodriguez would be the additional marker in the middle to counteract the fast break ...just as Alves is doing  for Brazil ..buh dais jess me .

Well thought out formation.

I have a couple objections though... no Di Maria? Burdisso at left back?

Isnt Otamendi to short for centrehalf?

I prefer Burdisso and Samuel at centre back, CRod and Otamendi as the wingbacks. Mascherano,Pastore (right) and Di Maria (left) as the linkmen and Messi in the mezzanine (behind the centre- fwd), Tevez at left wing and Higuain as CF.

I would have Pastore alternating the attack with Otamendi on the wing. CRod would hang back on the left  back and cover the centrehalfs if needs be. The left attacjk is in the capable hands of Di maria and Tevez.

What U say?

I may have written it wrong but Burdisso is at right back and heinze at left ....it is to be viewed as you look at it. No Di Maria because he has not yet produced his best and there will be a need to strengthen the defensive part of midfield. Clemente is excellent at recovery and against the germans who are a strong running team and  Argentina's perennial problem of overloading in attack and being a sucker for the counter needs to be addressed.

Mascherano cannot do it alone. Dunga has done the same thing with Alves...
I will have Tevez on the right , instead of Maxi rogriguez ...he can provide good support for burdisso. I believe now is the time for good support in defense ..so every position should have cover.

Messi will roam the field as Maradona did. Maradona has already given him that license ....you cannot put a creative player in a box .....

The germans are very strong and physical ...you can only look at the goal Klose scored when he powered past the english defense .....

I would have Arguero in this game at some stage ...he is well rested and can provide another attacking option ...he can take on any defense ...just like Messi ! He is also the best percentage finisher ....Higuain is still missing too many easy chances though he is the leading scorer in the team.

you sure yuh does follow Argentina  ;D Yuh have Center back at left full back  and a wide left back at right of midfield.

You sure you does follow Argentina ? Maradona has said from the start that he will go with 4 centre backs in defense . Do you remember that ? He played Germany a friendly before the WC , which argentina won .... you remember that ? He said ...it worked well and he did not concede any goals ...remember that too ?

So all that I am suggesting is in keeping with what the coach has said .....yes the coach !! i know many had him down as a waste of time ...I even had my doubts but he has proved us wrong ..so far .

Again I have clemente rodriguez at left midfield ....not at right ..read the posts and dem good nah . ..Just as dunga has Alvez, a confirmed riight back , in the mifddle to win back the ball for brazil.

I following Argentina since 1978 ....some of the peeps here were not born yet ...... I saw houseman, Kempes, Ortiz, Bertomi play ..... I could even give you a little stat...messi and Riquelme were born on the same day ...but not the same year ...and Pastore will shock everyone ! ah gone .

Yes I remember the exhibition game. Do you wish me to give you the line up?

Otamendi RB, Demechiles CB, Samuel CB, Heinze (Burdisso subbed Samuel) My point is why would Diego start  Burdisso at RB in a quarter final when he has not done so even in exhibition. The only way that would happen is emergency sub.

Nah man, Burdisso has a lot of experience at right back as well. He was used there frequently up till last season while he was at Inter Milan. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to play there by any stretch.

Thanks Bitter and B&S, very interesting read. I really like the emphasis they place on practice and spending as much time as possible with the ball, as opposed to just playing lots of games.

We probably at least a lifetime away from seeing anything like this instituted in the youth levels in T&T, but it's something that could be taken into consideration for our footballing future. I prefer this approach to the American youth model which is championed by a few posters here, especially considering our relatively minute population. This approach could possibly produce more skilled players at the very least, who would be more capable of playing at an elite level in the international arena.  :beermug:

Congrats to Inter on winning a nail biter with 10 men- the sending off was harsh and Barca's goal looked dodgy...so it hard tuh argue....it's one thing to have a defensive plan...executing it is another.

That said, call me old school but there's something about having a multi-million dollar star-studded roster park up in front of the goal to get a result, with no intention of getting forward that still doh sit 100% right with me.

Lucio for president!

I think that was more due to the red card than anything else. Yes they were playing defensively from the beginning, but they were trying to attack on the counter as well. After going down to 10 men they aborted the counter attack as well. JMHO

29
SO wait is messi still the best midfielder in the world>???? messi who? barca who?

so who is the best midfielder now? Wesley Sniejder is.

This result so hard that i had to quote myself from "forget rooney , messi is world best" thread
After April is over no one will remember who messi is. Mark my word!

And Argentina going nowhere in South Africa they might as well pack lite, unless el principe is there.

Much adu about Messidonna the "catalan"

mom mom i want a inter replica for xmas with number 10 on it so i can represent the finest in the world this season.

Dont worry barca fans, you still live in spain, come to madrid if you want to see the finals.

You jus on shit yes. Messi is the best player in the world.

U really believe that because Inter defend like beasts today nobody will remember who Messi is? What Sneijder do today? Messi had a better game than him. And like dinho said, football is not just about individuals.

The result today was all down to Inter's tactics and execution. Very very disciplined performance.

30
Special performance inspired by the Special one...

Inter knew Barca play high pressure when off the ball and they also keep their defense high...Inter played at a higher intensity and set up the foursome perfectly to hit Barca on the counter attack...

thoroughly deserved....second leg is gonna be epic

....King Leo?

Allyuh with the shit talk against Messi....if allyuh really watched the game, u wud have seen that Inter shut down most of Xavi's passing channels in midfield. He very rarely got a chance to pass the ball forward, which resulted in less service to Messi and the other forwards. On top of that, everytime Messi got the ball, he was surrounded by at least 2, sometimes 3 players, and still he hardly ever gave up the ball.

Inter simply got their tactics right, and executed very well. Besides their first goal when Inter's defence fell asleep, Barca really didnt create many chances until after Inter scored their 3rd, and made more of a commitment to defending their 2-goal advantage.

The tie is still not over anyways, as in the Nou Camp, any number could play. Should be a big one.
