honestly if going to try and play molino wide left yuh askin for trouble, unless yuh givin him some defensive leeway and catering to provide extra cover for him.....I noted while at orlando that more often than not he pretended to defend IMO...he would go through d motions be not have any kinda real effort

Neither Cato or Levi are much better. What would you suggest.

Good chance Mexico play 3 at the back which will leave us in a familiar situation of how to counter. Haven't seen a good tactical adjustment to do so as yet. In the last game I assumed Panama would have done the same and thought a 4321 (wide) would work better. Think it could work here too.

The problem with the wing backs coming to play I think is that we get pushed back and we allow too much possession in our final third which is asking for trouble. Especially with Mexico. With more men in the middle we could break up play there and keep the ball better. It will also fill that gap between wing back and DM that is exploited in the 4231 with the diagonal into space.

Think we need to play a physical disruptive game and frustrate them, try to hold onto the ball when we do and limit our attacks mostly to the speedy wingers and long diagonal knock downs from KJ for them to run on to.

Think our best chance to win is to keep it close and score late ala Latapy. Bring on the speedsters Levi and Cato late and perhaps Boatswain

4321 Starting (knowing DL's preferences now)

Dont need style now we need substance.. much like 2005. Keep it simple, keep the ball constructively, press when defending, score our chances. We did enough of that to win.

Things to note:
That was arguably our easiest game on paper.
Panama playing a 4141 played into our hands and allowed us to use the 4231 holding the ball deeper and building from the back. Note the difference with CR and Hon who both played WBs effectively 5 across the middle and even Pan when they switched in the second half to two strikers and were able to possess the ball further up the pitch. Thankfully they didn't have better finishers. We need to be able to counter such a tactical adjustment better.

All in all great result and on to Mex

With all the crime, abductions, murders of women, unemployment and stress in this place I hope DL letting these boys know that this is more than a game. They could be the key to raising some kind of nationalism and hope in this place. Good luck to the fellas. :challenge:

Trini, George have to play, should be de first name on de coach sheet.

Alvin Jones is a right back.

You wasting Boucaud playing him so deep.

I was trying to get A Jones on the field I like what I saw with him is he so one footed?
Boucaud always plays deep for us he is good in possession and at winning the ball back can calm the middle and has decent distribution which makes him ideal for this position.

Largely yes. The members of the squad who are comfortable in a LB role are Williams, Hodge, David and Joevin.

Then maybe

A Jones______Abu Bakr_______Gonzales/Cyrus_________Hodge/Williams

According to this site, Panama might play a 5-3-2 formation and Blas Perez might play after all.
They looking to park the bus and try to escape with at least a point.
Yet another team employing a three centerback defense d other two got three points.....take careful note dat is really 3-5-2 how much yuh want to bet dem wide men goh be up in we defensive third every chance dey get......bet yuh dey goh be speedy too

Yup and if we play Cyrus as a wing back we dead as he doesn't get back in time. Watch the Honduras game. Honestly our 4231 formation does not do well against this as the wing play is too open for them to overload especially when our backs attack up field.

If they're using a 5321 they are definitely going to play on the counter and on the wings as well with the backs probably pushing way up. Unfortunately that may rule out our comfort zone 4231 as this would open up the wing play too much and we wont be able to take advantage of all the space in the middle.

We probably should look to put 3 in the middle instead and try to dominate possession in the middle which they would be giving up anyway.

I would try a 4321

This way we can dominate the middle and still use our speed on the wings. Less crossing more play though the middle in the attacking 3rd.
Alternatively we could go 3-1-3-1-2 (wide) and press and attack them into the ground  ;D. I don't think we have the personnel to do that though.

nah I almost certain they will play 4-2-3-1......have heard that Lawrence want d DMs to tuck and sit and let d fullbacks push up if dat true it might work.my only concern is do we have DMs and CBs dat can deal covering width until d FB/WB track back

Agreed. DMs stay narrow and backs push up and overlap with wingers overlapping and overloading and hopefully getting some crosses in or cutting inside. Alternatively KJ drops back as point man for diagonal overheads from DMids and KM plays off of him.

We need better quality crossing though. Watching Joevin's last game his crossing has improved hoping for the best

Doubt Dennis changes the formation drastically I know the 343 is vogue now but I suspect we see a 442 or 4231 as we have been seeing with Coach Hart which will utilize the pace on the wings with two holding mids. Won't have time to tinker too much and would need the guys to be comfortable in their positions and roles so we can push for a result

Probably will see much of the same with personnel too. I might want to try Gonzales at RB too instead of David maybe.

For Panama:

Possible Subs: Depending on who starts Levi for Cato Boatswain for K Jones either Hyland or Boucaud for either Arcia, George or Hector depending on if we chasing the game or holding the lead.

Jones= BEST LB in the MLS..

He made the second goal with a Messi beat.

He was class yesterday. The nutmeg on the touch line was nice on the 2nd goal assist.

Kid at Piarco pursued Joel Campbell's signature. See video:

http://www.nacion.com/m/deportes/seleccion-nacional/Keylor-Navas-Joel-Campbell-Aeropuerto_0_1596640425.html

CRC reporter surprised by the lack of hostility or fanfare upon CRC's arrival. Mistakenly pronounces that cricket and rugby are more popular than football in T&T.

Must be a cub reporter. Fresh in the game.

I think the lack of fanfare was more insulting to him than if they had a hostile welcome. If so I hope the players share the same sentiment and mission accomplished.  :rotfl:

Cyrus brings attacking wing back play, long throws, crosses and recovery speed. Unfortunately he also brings bone head mistakes and big gaps at the gap.

Still waiting for him to have his Cyd Grey epiphany moment. When it all comes together. Maybe thats what Hart waiting for too.

Could still high press in a 2 3 mid field with two defensive mids. Thats the formation Klopp uses. I agree this will probably be the plan. Who would be the two d mids two of Hyland, George and Boucaud? You will need someone to play Gundogan's role in the d mid. A man who doh bun.

If... if.. Bostock get cleared do you play him in the middle or on the wing? I wonder if he could play that position. Havent see enough of him play. Does he even start?
