Fatima men may not necessarily know the orgin of the name... hence one of them misled you by saying it was the name of a saint. The book that you reading taking yuh on the right path, except it was apparitions of Mary that the children saw in Fatima and not just an arbitrary saint.

Jamaica schoolboys keep Friendship Cup
Roger Seepersad
T'dad Express, Tuesday, December 12th 2006

The JAMAICAN All-Schools' team defeated their Trinidad and Tobago
counterparts 3-1 at Queen's Royal College ground yesterday, in the
second leg of the 2006 Jamaica and T&T Friendship Cup, to win the
series for the third consecutive year.

The first game at the Many Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella ended in a 1-1
draw on Saturday. But yesterday, the boys from Jamaica looked to be
the stronger team from the start, creating some early chances in the
opening 15 minutes through the effort of Richard Wilson. But after
beating goalkeeper Akini Adams, his shot rebounded off the underside
of the crossbar.

However, Wilson was rewarded six minutes later when he ran onto the
ball and fired a vicious shot past Adams to the dismay of the T&T contingent.

T&T could not recover from this terrible start as they struggled to
keep possession long enough. Their passing also let them down in the
first half as T&T continued to have trouble getting through a
physically imposing Jamaican midfield.

In the second half, T&T continued to have problems containing the
Jamaican attack.

The pressure showed in the decisions of T&T All-Schools coach Leon
Carpette, who made many substitutions before and after the half time break.

Jamaica asserted their dominance later in the second half after a
period of immense pressure resulting in Robert Palmer having a shot
on goal. His effort sailed past Adams to give Jamaica a 2-0 lead in
the 67th minute.

Four minutes later, James Thomas made it 3-0 for the visitors when
his close range shot proved too much for Adams who was eventually
substituted for Jeremy Tenia.

San Juan Secondary Comprehensive's Elijah Manners rarely ventured
into the other half on the uneven field at QRC, being dispossessed on
almost every attempt to run past the Jamaicans.

However, his persistence paid off in the 75th minute when everything
went right for the T&T boys.

Manners' shot from just inside the penalty area found its target to
give T&T their lone goal.

The win gives Jamaica the Cup for the third time since it was
re-introduced in 2004.

Pro League magazine creating waves
Tuesday, December 5 2006
Newsday

THE RESPONSE to the recently launched Pro League monthly football
magazine is exceeding expectations, as local football fans show their
appreciation and an appetite for the product.

The league is currently publishing and distributing 20,000 magazines
monthly. The magazine is also available on the league's website and
selected bookstores.

T&T Pro League Chairman Larry Romany said the decision to publish a
magazine is part of the league's strategic marketing plan aimed at
establishing the league as a viable sport brand.

"The name of the game is generating revenue. The league in order to
achieve its long term vision must strive for self-sufficiency," Romany said.

According to Romany, the league's growing local and international fan
base are yearning for information about the league, its clubs and
players and the magazine is a great way to keep fans informed and
excited about the league.

Romany is delighted at the positive response to the Pro League
Magazine and said the best is yet to come.

"It's a work in progress; the T&T Pro League is about developing
people and striving for excellence, things can only improve from here
on," he stated.

"It continues to be an evolutionary process. Our research suggests
that the league now has a credible brand equity profile, but we
cannot be complacent, we have to keep improving in all areas, if we
are to meet the expectations of our stakeholders and target market, I
assure you the best is yet to come," Romany said.

The league's chairman, who is also the President of the Trinidad and
Tobago Olympic Committee also revealed the league's website
ttproleague.com has been doing extremely well.

"The website had 300,000 hits in September and this confirms there is
not only interest locally in the local professional league, but also
internationally and this augurs well for our strategic plan," said Romany.

"We continue to think big, our brand vision is consistent with our
overall vision. We have faced and will continue to encounter
challenges, but we have no fear of failure, we will press on," he said.

Romany also expressed confidence that the local players and coaches
in the league will continue to improve and that TT will qualify for
the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"A vibrant and dynamic high quality Pro League will be the key
factor, if we are to be there in South Africa in 2010. I have seen a
paradigm shift in the attitude of the local professional footballers
and coaches. They are buying into the possibilities and coming to
terms with the responsibility of professionalism," he said.

General Discussion / Re: TT getting more corrupt.

TT getting more corrupt.
By: Clint Chan Tack (TT Newday).

TT Transparency Institute secretary Boyd Reid vice- chairman Victor Hart and director Sonah Nagessar discuss findings of Tr...THIS country has fallen on Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for the fourth successive year, despite efforts by Government to deal with the issue of corruption.
In announcing findings of the 2006 CPI, during a news conference at the DFL Building in Port-of-Spain yesterday, TT TI secretary Boyd Reid said higher levels of perceived corruption were connected to perceptions of grand corruption by public officials and “widespread” petty corruption by ordinary citizens.
TT has fallen from a CPI score of 5.3 out of ten in 2001 to a score of 3.2 out of ten in the 2006 CPI.
TT, Burkina Faso, Moldova, Morocco and Lesotho are ranked 79th out of a total of 142 nations surveyed.
TI said it was concerned about the “significant worsening” in the perceived levels of corruption in TT, Israel, Cuba, Brazil, Jordan, Laos and the Seychelles in the 2006 CPI. Finland, Iceland and New Zealand topped the 2006 CPI with a score of 9.6. Angola finished last in the survey with a score of 2.2.
The corruption perception of a country increases as the score decreases from ten to one.
Reid said Government and Attorney-General John Jeremie are making commendable efforts “to punish those guilty of corruption” ratifying the United Nations Anti-Corruption Convention and announcing a new public sector procurement regime.
However, he lamented that some of these efforts may have indirectly contributed to TT’s CPI score falling.
Reid said there was an increased perception of grand corruption because former PNM and UNC government ministers are now before the courts and corruption allegations have been made against police officers and other public officials.
Reid lamented that there does not appear to be any provision in the 2006/2007 Budget to implement the new public sector procurment regime once the necessary legislation is passed in Parliament.
He was concerned that Government’s seeming reluctance to hold dialogue on “mega projects” (such as the mass transit system and aluminum smelters), no clear monitoring guideline for special purpose companies and large sums of public funds seemingly being spent “off-budget” could be fueling suspicions of an unpublished parallel economy and “corrupt influences may be at work”.
Reid was disappointed that Government appears to have done nothing since 2003 to strengthen the Integrity Commission and address flaws in the Integrity in Public Life Act. TTTI vice-chairman Victor Hart said Government should hold consulations on major projects from the beginining in order to eliminate suspicions of corruption. Hart and Reid urged all opposition parties to resist the temptation to use the CPI to score political points against the Government with general elections “just around the corner.”
They said all political parties should tell the population what policies they would put in place in government to deal with corruption instead of pointing fingers at one another.
They were happy that Caroni East MP Ganga Singh raised the issue of campaign finance in Parliament recently because this was one area where “corruption can flourish.”
Reid said if the public sector appears to be more corrupt, “the private sector must appear to be more corrupt also” since acts of corruption involve “a giver and a taker.”
Saying that a fall in the CPI could reduce the investment flows into a country, Reid said there was no evidence to indicate that this was happening in TT and it would appear that the reverse is taking place.
Hart said major companies do extensive research before investing in any company and the CPI could be one of several tools that they use.

Tuesday November 7, 2006.

Ok, so the perception of the country is what has come to light and the reason this is so is because people are before the court and the fact that they are before the court suggests that something is being done. Before the world found this out, there was no "perception" recorded and published. So I think that relevant authorities should just continue to smoke out the corrupt people and deal with this problem / perception and and to get us off of that chart.
... Yeah, ah know, ah make it sound easy and its not.

Football / Re: United Petrotrin are new Toyota Cup champs.
« on: November 06, 2006, 07:45:17 AM »
Unfortunately I have to start by saying that the Petrotrin vs Rangers match was far from exciting, the quality of football these clubs play leave much to be desired. However the fact still remains that a winner emerged from the tournament... Congratulations to both Petrotrin and Rangers on their accomplishments... Petrotrin, for winning the cup and to Rangers for reaching as far as the finals on your first year back into the league.
Well done to Tristan Charles also my pick for most valuable player, he had a good game, some beautiful airborne saves also nuff respect to Teesdale on his hat-trick.
In the first half Petrotin played with a serious attack but in the second half the backline was doing more work as their game changed to a more defensive one... oh, that reminds me... Skipper Rougier had a good game also.
Although Rangers were disturbingly reactive in the first half, playmaker#11 did try hard though... yes folks yuh know I'm talking about Hardest... both in the semi finals and finals Jemmott played with some vigour. Maybe he knew that the National Coach and Ass't National Coach were looking on in the crowd.
Other than a dog doing his doo on the field there were a couple other incidents in the finals, one for instance was Rangers' coach Anthony Streete being struck with a bottle thrown by a female patron, medics had to rush and assist the poor man.
Lucozade Big 6 starting soon... can't wait

Football / Pro League Magazine & Website Info
« on: October 01, 2006, 10:53:54 AM »
Forumites,

Just wanted to inform you that on Thursday 28th September, along with launching its new website the TTPL also lauched a new bi-monthly magazine.

The first issue will be distributed to locals through TTPost at no cost in order to market the magazine, however after the free distribution has stopped the cost will be TT$5.00 and US$2.00 for future issues.

On the cover of the first issue stars Maximus Dan and on page 13 he is featured in a Joel Villafana article. Villafana is the Editor of the magazine and sw.net / warrior nation member Patriot is one of the contributing Columnnists, who by the way made mention of sw.net in this first issue. Congratulations and Thank You Patriot!

Interviews, profiles, features, annotations and full page advertisments adorn the glossy pages of this magazine and therefore urges me to say... Good Job Trinidad & Tobago Pro League! We look forward to all you have in store for us and thank you for your commitment to continuous improvement.

Forumites, when you see the magazine for yourselves you would notice where improvements are needed, I'll leave that up to you to point out, however I like that the TTPL is less dormant and they are surprising us with these new activities.

Cheers,
GW

Obviously de team in Green win.  Ah guessin daz W Connection.  Would be nice to have some audio.  Guess dey rollin out dis LIVE feed ting in instalments.  At least we get to see de game.  But without knowin de players it hard to know wha de hell goin on.

Kudos to TT Pro League for gettin this kinda up and runnin in de first place.  Plenty improvements left to come tho.  Now dat ah watchin de presentation ceremony..ah kinda glad it eh have no commentary now so dat ah doh have to cover meh ears lissen to Anil.

Just a lil observation.  Dis is de professional football league.  Is a FINAL.  I assumin Anil is de MC.  But he coastin a short pants, juhzzey and sneakers wit a towel over he shoulder and doin de MC ting.  He should move lil more professional in he attire on dese occasions.  Now if Anil read dis or it come to he attention, ah might well get a big steupes on he show but if yuh doin de ting Anil ...do it right breds.

Yes WConnection won 3-1... this is probably on the ttpl website by now. That match was real good and the crowd was good too. The entire covered stands were filled and the uncovered pulled about 200-250 ppl. They were unable to have audio this time but they are working on it. Wayne Cunningham was actually supposed to be the mic man for the night but Anil keep taking over... i eh know why

By the way I checked out a lil piece of the match on a laptop in the stadium and it was impressive. Proleague seems to be heading in the right direction.
