Football / Re: Caribbean Premier League Thread
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:28:46 AM »
I don't like the look of this. From what I can see, it's one guy (Chris Anderson) setting up a website, Twitter and Facebook account with a few friends. I don't know the man (one source says he's a former Trinidad player who played in Europe?) but I've done some research on Google, he's the Chief Financial Officer of "+One" a sportswear company that imports sportswear goods from Asia and whose website has a photoshopped office building.

It's not affiliated with CONCACAF, it's an opportune press release looking to set tongues wagging. It's worded in such a way to give the impression that it has CONCACAF's support because Jeeffrey Webb wants to establish a Caribbean league: "This announcement comes after support (as it relates to the concept and structure) was garnered from both the President of CONCACAF Mr. Jeffery Webb and the President of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Gordon Derrick, along with other heads of regional Associations/Federations."

All the statement says is  'this league could work if someone give us $3m USD per annum'.

It's nothing more than a distraction.

He has played in two friendly games for England, still eligible for T&T. You guys still interested? :D

You brought a two year old thread up to say that no one cares to read his articles?

The 13 year win-less streak is interesting.

That AP release is irritating. It doesn't tell the story

Reuters 19 April 2013:

Quote
The call, from several delegates from the floor of the congress, was backed by CONCACAF president Jeffrey Webb who said he would not want to share a platform with Blazer at the FIFA congress.

"You heard the views of the membership in congress. Mr Blazer is still part of the game and he is still elected until May 30 until the new member is installed at the congress," he told reporters.

"In a personal capacity I would take it very hard after receiving this from the Integrity committee to sit there in front of the world, on the world stage with him as a member of the FIFA executive committee in front of congress."

Today he was banned from attending the FIFA Congress on 30 May, no more or no less.  He's leaving the position anyway, there was no need to suspend him - it is FIFA/CONCACAF keeping him away.

Here is the speech and documents: https://t.co/scFl2iHqPP

Only time 2006 came up was when he was blowing his own horn for T&T qualifying in 2006.

So in a nutshell...

There are three parcels of land that the COE is built on. Jack Warner owns all of these.
He was able to buy them with funds from grants

FIFA and CONCACAF paid the money for the COE.
The asset was then mortgaged against by JW.
FIFA pay the mortgage.

In 2009, JW's son as Caribbean development officer ordered FIFA to lay a new pitch.
In 2010, the Australian FA paid $450k+ to JW (the bank account was in the name of CONCACAF, but was a personal account) to upgrade the Marvin Lee stadium. The funds were misappropriated.

Is that it? I'm having problems understanding where the land money came from.

Did you guys see that Damien Hughes of the CFU wants to make the CFU more transparent, he wants to publish financial reports etc. He said that it's the first time results have been made public and that under Jack Warner, even members of the CFU couldn't see the financial results.

That Stream won't work.

www.caribbeanfootball.org is not a valid website - you can buy that domain as it is available for purchase.

Sorry guys, but the competition has descended into a farce before it began..

No sponsor has been found
The CFU head moved it to his own nation despite Antigua saying they'll struggle to support and afford it.
The competition groups were changed to suit one of the CFU Exec Members after the draw had taken place
From media point of view, CFU website has not been updated in over a year and the squads have yet to be published a day before the competition begins.
Also, there's been no news on television broadcasts!

The only people who made money out of it were the CFU

For a professional Caribbean league, we need 8 to 10 clubs in the region to raise quality of play to a new level. Football / CFU alter Caribbean Cup qualifying groups
« on: August 04, 2012, 04:59:05 PM »
The draw for the Carribean Cup qualifying group was originally made in March.. now the CFU have altered it and moved teams around to other groups and have offered no reasons for doing so.

Suriname's FA (the only FA I've found to speak of it) are not very happy about it. Their president Louis Giskus says that the post-Warner CFU is "no improvement" and that the new group will cost them more financially to take part.
