Football / Re: Saintfiet engages discussion with players

As president of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, David John-Williams is an obvious target when anything related to the sport here goes awry. Often that vitriol is misplaced because much of the self-righteous indignation presumes that the game as a whole was on a consistently progressive path prior to his election to head the administration almost 14 months ago. That is patently not true.

That is patently TRUE.  Look at the stats.  Numbers don't lie.  DJW is doing a horrible job.. You seem to be assuming that no one will succeed because the system is broken.  I must let you know it takes a good leader to fix the system.  DJW is not that person.  The prior leader of the TTFA was doing a good job.  Your article is downright depressing.  I prefer to view this situation as half full.  Put a good leader in place and things will improve.

Let me begin e saying that I am not a Jack Warner fan. However the man is totally correct. Lets begin with the teams record while DJW has been in leadership.  His appointment was the beginning of the end of the national teams growth.  Stephen Heart's job was on the line the minute DJW became TTFA director. It is sad that one person can have such power to destroy the progress made to the national team.  I am a high school teacher in a majority Hispanic population. And the students who are mainly from central America has grow respect for this country's talent in soccer.  Now the question everyone is asking.  What happened?  My answer is DJW destroyed all possibilities of make it to the world cup in 2018.

Football / Re: Observations on yesterday's game

"Carlyle Mitchell came to play yesterday." (Radio quote)    I thought he was excellent all game.  The fact that he took Abu Bakr's spot is an indication of how well he must have been performing in the training sessions. And it translated into the field.

Totally agree! I think we have found tow canter backs that can not only defend but also has a good touch on the ball.  With more games together under their belt they can only get better.  I was very impressed with Carlyle Mitchell's game. Got T& T. Nice observation.

Any news on Bostock situation yet?

This situation too long overdue. You would swear he needs a security clearance. shims!

The way England Played last week, I wouldn't be surprised that they would try to get someone like Bostock.  I hope not for T&T sake.

Good win and congrats.

Now, if we win any of our last two games, I will be amazed.

We have real licks to get if Hart dont fix that problem.

Would have loved to see Jomal play instead of Hackshaw.

Caesar showed KJ how its done.

If Hyland can play consistent, we ok, but he sucks.

Boucaud is miles ahead of him.

Good win, congrats guys.

But we in real trouble.

This is a schizophrenic Commentary

We have some work to do.  I will like to see both Mickiel and Aubry starting in defense. As for the center mids.  We are loosing too many balls there. This is what caused many of the counter attacks  by SVG.  Hope this could be fixed by Tuesday.

I watched this game recently, and was not impressed by what I saw from both teams, but especially from T&T, that was a lackluster performance not worthy of World Cup standards. If that was what you would consider a good performance by this current national team then you don't know what quality football looks like. I am sure Coach Hart is a good guy but his coaching leaves a lot to be desired.
With all due respect.  You sound like you have not been following this team.  I agree that both teams we were a bit cautious.  But your criticism of the coach demonstrates ignorance on your part.   The goal for this team is to qualify for the hex.  Do me a favor and take a look at any one of the Mexico games this year and you will see that there is a lot of potentiality on this team.  You are one of a few who is not seeing the tremendous job that this coach is doing. I look forward to some positive comments when the team is progressing because we are indeed improving.

The teams walk out and we stand up for the Anthems and greetings from the dignitaries. Last few games when they announced the heads of state and the government ministers a loud boo would be heard from the crowd. This rounds it was a big cheer for Dr. Rowley and the loudest cheer went to Russel Latapy who greeted the players as well.

I would like to big up the Warrior Nation members who diligently and expertly brought out the giant flag. It was a sight to behold and they unfurled it quickly just before the anthem started. What a show of national pride, you really don't know the great response that flag gets from all those in the opposing stand and players on the field. Everybody turned and looked, all the camera men starting snapping away and phones just come out recording. When you are in grounds you don't see the reactions, but this act is an important one. Good job again for all those involved.

De Anthem and de Flag

Wait nah?! We couldn't give Rowley a new Joma kit? De man sporting ah old generic adidas jersey!

TTFA slip-up bad on that one!
He could a put on a suit.  That is no TTFA fault. ;D

Jurgen job maybe in question even more if the USMNT fail to get a result in TNT. Jurgen has been under serious pressure after failing to reach the Confederations Cup in Russia and not making the finals of the Gold Cup hosted in USA (Mexico's seconds country). In a recent press conference he, Jurgen stated that Trinidad is full of confidence and he respects us! Make no mistake USA is a different team on the road and are known for grinding results, tnt must be very careful about the overlapping defenders like yedlin and cameron. USMNT is also good on set pieces like corners and controlling the middle of the park, they also press high up and win those second balls.

If TNT is to get a result against the Americans they will have to dig deep, work hard, concentrate for a whole 95 mins and win those second balls. GL to both sides. As you all know I support both teams. I live in the US and they have given Concacaf alot of respect throughout the years representing this region with discipline. We must respect the United States and treat them well, but we must not fear them. Lets hope we get a nice clean game and not give them any space to create chances and take ours.

I also appreciate what the US has done for the region but even though I'm now a US citizen I am "Trini to the bone" Go T and T. :)

Very good article.  Maybe all journalists from T and T (including Corneal) should take a course in this type of journalism.  It's tempting me to make a trip to T&T to see this match. (Funds are low) Many others focus on criticizing in the absence of praising the team. The challenge is great but I have faith in my Soca Warriors.

5000 on a tuesday not bad!!!

Dude this is our NATIONAL Team breds

yuh lie...i thought socawarriors was a warrior tribe from d zulu-nation....

Mih boy the stadium don't ever ram out for no small match...nicaragua...trinidadians love brand names...england, spain, brazil...stadium ram out....so 5000for nicaragua on a tuesday is not bad at all....is actually kinda positive...would i have love to hear it ram out..yes...obiviously

trini_stallion --- I remember as a teen back in the Strike Squad days, the stadium use to be packed EVEN when we played against small teams.  We definitely lost National spirit and National pride over the past 25 years.

After listening to this radio station I am realizing that there is a reason why these the team is not promoted well.  These men criticize the players too often.  They need to know that they are a voice for the national team.  Please leave the criticism for half time.  And don't over look the positives.

That needs to change.  Trinidadians need to come out for the national team not just based of who they playing.

This game is a very important one. It is an opportunity to convince the T&T public that this team is for real.  So I appeal to the team and coaching staff: Don't let your guard down on Nicaragua.  We need to fill the stadium for the WCQ games.  I believe that if the local fans become impress the word will spread very fast.

As you can see I have only made a few post on this site. But don't be fooled, I have be keeping abreast with T&T soccer for many years, and their is nothing wrong with being critical about where we are and how we can improve as a soccer nation. Being critical is not being negative.  It is what's required to achieve goals.  I bet if you ask Heart what's the goal for the soccer team right now, he would not tell you that it is to be top 20, but to qualify for the World Cup.

20
Let's take one step at a time Please!!. If you have been following the socawarriors under Mr Hart you see that their is a growing confidence.  But this is not the time to be talking about beating top 10 teams.  Our focus should be WCQ.  When that happens so be it.  But if it happens at the expense of qualifying then there is no use.

I disagree! Group B is the group of death.  Providing that Jamaica and Haiti win their game.  All of them will be teams who got to the quarter finals of the gold cup. Anyway T&T can't afford to take any game for granted.
