Joe Public rattle Jabloteh again.
By: Lasana Liburd (Express).

McComie clinches Macoya battle

Bmobile Joe Public club owner Jack Warner is unlikely to be satisfied with his team's performance at the recently concluded 2007 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championships. Second place is never good enough for a Trinidad and Tobago team participating in a regional competition.
But Warner and Public head coach Michael McComie might have enjoyed a good night's rest on Tuesday, buoyed by the knowledge that the "Eastern Lions"· remain one of the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League's premier outfits. Public's 1-0 triumph over CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in Tuesday's league fixture should have seen to that.
Jabloteh, arguably, had more to lose. The Pro League crown appears to be a straight race between the self-proclaimed "San Juan Kings" and upstarts Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA at present. Caledonia are two points clear but have played an extra match, while Jabloteh were expected to crave revenge after their narrow Toyota Classic final loss to Public and the controversial scenes that followed it. But it was Public who better handled the adrenalin rush stoked by the ill-tempered clash.
From refused transfer permit recommendations and taunting to allegations of racist abuse, there has been enough baiting between either team to make your average boxing promoter salivate.
McComie has generally played the role of antagonist, which takes some doing considering Fenwick's outspoken-to be generous-past that is littered with disciplinary breaches.
In the clash of local football's most controversial coaches, McComie emerged with reputation intact on Tuesday night. Not that the result did not slightly flatter the home team.
The best chance of the match fell to Jabloteh substitute and 2006 World Cup player Cornell Glen in the 89th minute and his hurried effort sailed over the bar after a clever, quick throw from Khaleem Hyland.
It was the difference between the teams in more ways than one. All heart, Jabloteh could not match Public's composure on Tuesday evening.
Who would want to be Fenwick now?
The former England World Cup player and 2002 PFL Coach of the Year is still without a trophy this term and has endured a torrid fortnight off the field too. McComie's assertion that Fenwick racially abused him after the Classic final-a charge the Englishman denied--has brought the Jabloteh coach before a Pro League disciplinary committee while he was not permitted to run his technical area, on Tuesday, because of a previous expulsion.
Fenwick found out yesterday too, that the Pro League executive will not permit him the honour of leading one of two All Star teams into the Shaka Hislop Tribute Cup against United States Major League Soccer (MLS) club Dallas FC and Brazilian team, Atletico Paranaense on November 30 and December 2.
The local clubs initially agreed that the top local and foreign coach, as decided by the domestic standings, would head the respective All Star squads but Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene said a rethink was done at an executive level. Caledonia coach Jamaal Shabazz will steer a Trinidad and Tobago XI, while Stuart Charles-Fevrier, a St Lucian, would run a local-based Overseas XI although his fourth-placed Vibe CT 105 W Connection squad are two spots below Jabloteh.
The simmering feud between Jabloteh and Joe Public is taking a toll on the former club in more ways than one and Jabloteh chairman Jerry Hospedales must help his coach maintain focus or risk ending such a promising season empty handed.
McComie was entitled to feel good about himself on Tuesday and, during the second half, he twice found time to vacate his technical area and walk within touching distance of Jabloteh's supporters in the stands.
Forever the showman, McComie's players showed the more thoughtful and unruffled side to his personality in their latest triumph. Jabloteh, who had central defender Ian Gray expelled on Tuesday and should have lost Cyd Gray too but for referee Phillip Jordan's leniency, need an urgent infusion of either characteristic if they are to beat Caledonia to the finish line.

Teams

Joe Public: - Alejandro Figueroa, Dale Saunders, Arnold Dwarika, Carlos Gonzales, Kerry Baptiste (Kerry Noray 80th), Devon Leacock (Roen Nelson 75th), Kendall Jagdeosingh, Seon Power, Gregory Richardson, Keyeno Thomas, Silas Spann.

Terry Fenwick, CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh's English coach, has been suspended for three matches by the T&T Pro League for using obscene language at a match official. Fenwick spent Tuesday's key T&T Pro League match-up against Joe Public at the foot of the covered stands where he issued instructions, while Angus Eve, the assistant-coach, took charge during Jabloteh's 1-0 loss against the "Eastern Lions." Fenwick is also out for Jabloteh's Pro League match against Tobago United today, and their first match in the Lucozade Big 6 competition on Saturday.
The current suspension for Fenwick came as a result of an incident at the First Citizens Cup competition in September, and not the incident at the end of the Toyota Classic Final on November 30, where Joe Public coach Michael McComie accused the Englishman of aiming a racist statement at him.
Contacted yesterday, T&T Pro League administrator Julia Baptiste stated that Fenwick is not the first coach the Pro League has been suspended for using obscene language at officials. Baptiste also explained that the reason Fenwick's suspension was not implemented before, is that the Pro League sanctions do not carry over to other competitions.
She said that during the last month, Jabloteh were involved in the FA Trophy and CONCACAF Club Champions Cup Caribbean qualifying series. Now that the Pro League has resumed, Fenwick's suspension has taken effect. Two years ago, the controversial former England defender was also involved in an incident at the Toyota Classic Final on November 4, 2005, in which he elbowed Vibe CT 105 W Connection midfielder Gefferson Goulart in the face.
The Englishman was initially fined $24,000 and suspended for 10 matches by the disciplinary committee of the T&T Pro League. On appeal, a Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) appeals committee, comprising Jack Austin Warner and Om Lalla, cut the fine to $12,000 and the suspension to six matches.

Keane linked with £2m Evans bid
Published Date: 30 October 2007
Source: Sunderland Echo

Sunderland are reportedly ready to offer £2million for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.
And on last season's form, that could turn out to be a real bargain.

Evans was a shining light on loan with the Black Cats in the second half of last season, but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson blocked a renewed loan bid for this term.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has made no secret of his interest in going back for Northern Ireland international Evans.

And today's reports suggest that he might look to take advantage of the teenager's absence from the first-team picture at Old Trafford by entering a relatively modest early bid when the January transfer window opens.

Despite spending more than £35million since winning the Championship last season, Sunderland will look to invest again in the New Year in a bid to improve their Premier League standing.

The Wearsiders have Nyron Nosworthy, Danny Higginbotham, Paul McShane and Danny Collins as options at centre-back, where Evans operates.

But that won't stop Keane from trying to boost a rearguard that has kept only one clean sheet in 12 attempts so far this season.

Wrexham hit by Williams injury
October 26,2007

Wrexham defender Danny Williams will miss the next three months after being told he needs back surgery.
Surgeons will shave part of a disc in Williams' back that has been touching a nerve and causing him severe pain after matches over recent weeks.

"Danny is a big loss for us because he's a big leader and a big player for us and he will be missed," said Wrexham manager Brian Carey.

"But we've got players who can come in and do the job."

Boss Carey fearing Wrexham sack
bbc.com
October 21, 2007

Carey position as Wrexham manager is under severe threat
Wrexham boss Brian Carey admitted the disgruntled fans will not be the only ones staying away from the Racecourse if the poor results continue.
"I've been in the game long enough to know what happens," he told BBC Sport after Saturday's 2-0 loss to Barnet.

"If performances and results carry on like this I probably won't be here either.

"You've got to be realistic about these things. I'm gutted for the fans. We're not giving them what we're capable of."

Wrexham have now lost four of their six home League Two games this season, and have managed to score just two goals.

 606: DEBATE
I have never seen a team as bad as Wrexham today

Wrexnet

Carey, who was warned in midweek by chairman Neville Dickens that he would be sacked unless results improve, said he was at a loss to explain their Racecourse woes.

"I know next week when we go to Notts County we'll be a different team," he said.

"We've got to get over whatever it is about playing here. We're just not showing the Wrexham public here what we're all about. We've got to get to the bottom of it."

Carey revealed he has already made inquiries about bringing in new faces after admitting he was disappointed by the lack of leadership shown by some of his players.

"Once they got their first goal it was evident for everyone to see that heads went down," he said.

"When you need your characters to emerge and stand up strong, we didn't have too many."

Edwards: The wait goes on.
By: Sundeland Echo.

Sunderland will be forced to wait even longer for Carlos Edwards as they seek a solution to his hamstring problem without it needing surgery. The influential winger has not played since the opening week of the campaign.
Hopes that he would be fit by the end of the international break were dashed last night when Black Cats' boss Roy Keane revealed that it will be another three weeks before the former Luton flier is available.
There's no doubt that Sunderland have missed Edwards' old-fashioned, direct wing play and his ability to get a goal.
Though we've yet to see whether he can bring his Championship form into his first taste of the top flight, there were glimpses in his last appearance against Birmingham on August 14 that Edwards has it in him to scare Premier League defences.
But supporters will have to be patient as they look for one of last season's star men to play his part.
Keane said: "We're still looking at another three weeks or so. We're doing everything we can; it's just one of those hamstring ones where it can be quite complicated.
"Carlos has seen a specialist. The positive news is that he can keep doing the recovery work that he's doing, we just to be a little more patient.
"Maybe the last time he came back too quickly. We have to be more patient with him."
The loss of Edwards for what is approaching a quarter of the campaign is a big setback to Sunderland, particularly as their midfield has also been shorn of skipper Dean Whithead and £5million summer signing Kieran Richardson.
But the news on Edwards could have been worse. The signs are that his current rehabilitation regime is bringing progress, with surgery having been a genuine threat quite recently.
Keane said: "It's described as a 'complex' hamstring injury, and complex it certainly is – mainly because of the position of the injury.
"He can do a lot of the training and if you see him walking around, he looks fine. But the problem comes when he twists and turns and kicks a ball – and that's pretty important when you are a footballer."

Hislop warns players: Secure your future.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Interim president of the Football Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago(FPATT) Neil ‘Shaka’ Hislop under the invitation of the TT Pro League met with players and club officials on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, VIP Room in an effort to create a better understanding of his association.
In Hislop’s opening remarks, he followed one key sentiment that players should prepare to secure a future after football and that the players association is geared at supporting that initiative.
“As a player in England this came with signing a pro contract,” said Hislop a former T&T international. “As I signed a pro contract, I immediately signed a PFA(English Professional Footballers Association) contract. A lot of concerns were immediately taken away from me and I have to admit, happily so.”
Hislop who retired from both international and club football had represented T&T at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has played with English Premier League clubs West Ham and Newcastle before ending off his career with Major League Soccer (MLS) club FC Dallas in the United States.
“One of the key things as a player, was enjoying your career while it lasted, because far too quickly it is over; the game moves on and you’re left with your memories. So you have to enjoy it while you’re in the game but at the same time you have to rest assured, retirement comes to us all and we have to be prepared for it.”
“These are things we as players never pay any mind too, up until our time draws down,” said the former England based professional goalkeeper.
Hislop further explained that as a player he has always enjoyed the benefits of an association. It was always part of the offerings in the English PFA but he never fully understood or appreciated it until late in his career.
“I had always invested in a pension and paid no mind to it, until the last two or three years that I knew I was coming to the end of my career,” said the T&T goalkeeping hero.
Hislop explained that pension plans, contract negotiations and other matters of players personal rights and development was handled by the association.
“But this is very new in Trinidad and Tobago and we have only been up and running for a few months and the English PFA is celebrating their centenary year this year, so we have some catching up to do with that respect and I feel we are heading in the right direction.”
FPATT’s general secretary Allison Ayres and vice president Clayton Morris were also on hand to discuss a better understanding with the players present on Friday.
Also present was TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene, a personal friend and former teammate of Hislop.
“We are here to speak to the players about FPATT and about the hopes and aspirations of the association, but more importantly get feedback of what the players really want from FPATT as their voice,” continued Hislop.
He also explained that despite registrations were coming along leisurely; he hopes that the forum would boost its pace.
He said, “We are still in early stages of membership and I’m hoping that this dialog would certainly help us in those efforts. We have been encouraged by early response but there have been some concerns by their part, which is why I’m here to let them know who we are and what we hope to achieve. This is fully understandable because it is new to Trinidad and Tobago football.”
Hislop dispelled concerns that his association will become provoking entity against the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation and the Pro League clubs.
He stated, “With the vision of the League I don’t anticipate any type of conflict. Right now our focus is on the players and we feel that the League is doing a tremendous job in development and we would just like to add to that. We don’t anticipate strikes, conflicts or war of words in the press. We would like to deal with any disagreements quietly behind closed doors, and I am confident that both of our efforts would only take Trinidad and Tobago football forward and putting a better product on the field for the fans to appreciate.”
“At the end of the day it is I important that the players have a voice; have an input into the League and into the development of Trinidad and Tobago football and we would like to provide that voice,” he said.

Cats legend - 'Jones is flippin' great'
Sunderland Echo.

When the final whistle went at the Emirates, I had no hesitation in naming my Century Radio man of the match as Kenwyne Jones. I know there were other contenders – Nyron Nosworthy and Danny Collins in defence, the likes of Liam Miller, Grant Leadbitter and Dwight Yorke in midfield.
But for me, Jones was way out in front of them – I thought he was superb. There's not a shadow of a doubt that he had the hardest job on the pitch out of anyone out there. If you are part of a defence or a packed midfield, you're never really exposed. But when you are asked to spearhead a 4-5-1 system, you have to essentially sacrifice yourself for your team-mates and it's a thankless task being up there with no-one playing alongside you.
I've played that role before and I know how hard it is. Yet Kenwyne scored one goal and had a massive hand in the other one against an Arsenal defence which just doesn't concede goals. I saw David Pleat, the former Spurs manager, in the Press Room afterwards and he was waxing lyrical about Kenwyne's display. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who sat up and took notice. That's two goals from Kenwyne now in five appearances and hopefully there will be more to come in the near future.

Lone striker role for Jones
Sunderland Echo
Oct 6 2007

ROY KEANE looks certain to deploy a 4-5-1 formation against Arsenal tomorrow.
But if he does, he insists, it won't be with a siege mentality but to be strong defensively and cause the Gunners problems on the break.

He said: "I think you've got to think about difficult fixtures like these and how you approach them.
"I don't think you can go in there gung-ho and take the attitude of 'Ok you have a go at us, then we'll have a go at you, then you'll have a go at us again'.
"You have to look at ways of making yourself strong against a very attacking side away from home and it's only 4-5-1 when you haven't got the ball.

"When you look back at the game against Manchester United when we used that system, we did reasonably well, although we did make mistakes and ended up losing the game.
"But I think we could possibly have done more going forward and that's what we have to look at from now on when we play that way.

"I certainly wouldn't rule out playing that way again tomorrow – a lot of teams have set up like that and it can be quite positive."
If that's the formation tomorrow, then it seems certain that Kenwyne Jones will be asked to play the key lone-striker role, just as he did against United.

Keane said: "I thought Kenwyne did quite well in that game. It was his first game for us but in some ways a trip to Old Trafford is a good game to have as your debut because perhaps the expectations are not so high.
"He was up front on his own and we probably didn't support him enough, the service probably wasn't up to scratch but, as I say, we hope to improve that tomorrow – if we play with that system at Arsenal!"

The formation would mean more onus being put on Sunderland's five-man midfield to take the game to the Gunners whenever the openings present themselves and really look to support Jones.
Keane reflected: "We have a lot of attack-minded players but you need decent possession before you can use them effectively.

"I would probably be looking at Yorke sitting in front of the defence but then asking Ross Wallace, Michael Chopra and Grant Leadbitter – who can all score goals – to push on."

Blatter to step up Euro quota bid

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has told the BBC he is ready to challenge the European Union to get a quota on foreign players within European teams.
Blatter made his comments in response to an NOP poll of football fans for BBC1's Football Focus.

He wants clubs to be limited to five foreigners in their starting XI to allow homegrown talent to flourish.

Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson told Focus: "It's just not legal - under EU law we couldn't do it."

Interview: Fifa president Sepp Blatter

However, Blatter says football needs to act and says a reduction "is a good solution".

The 71-year-old Swiss argues that football deserves special treatment because it is not like any other job.

Click here for full results of Football Focus Survey
"Workers in Europe can circulate freely but footballers are not workers," he said.

"You cannot consider a footballer like any normal worker because you need 11 to play a match - and they are more artists than workers."

BBC Sport report into football's 'foreign invasion'

BBC Sport revealed last month just how much the number of foreigners plying their trade in the Premier League had increased since 1992 and the Football Association has already expressed its concern over the impact that has had on home-grown players.

Now Football Focus has shown that fans have concerns, too.

When asked if there should be a quota of foreign players per club in the English Premier League, 56% of the 1055 people surveyed said they were in favour.

The EU has recently unveiled plans to impose more regulations on football and says the sport should only have limited immunity from rules governing employment.

It does not matter where you are born, it matters who you are

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

However, Blatter says he is ready to fight any EU move.

"Football has never had the courage to go against this practice," he said.

"When you have 11 foreigners in a team, this is not good for the development of football, for the education of young players, and there is a financial aspect, too."

But Johnson says clubs in England are ploughing money into their academies in order to produce homegrown players.

"We have to get it right organically," added Johnson. "It is a much better scenario to have quality youngsters coming through in all our clubs.

"Our structure is important, our academies are important. Look at the impact the likes of John Terry and Steven Gerrard have had on their local teams - why wouldn't clubs want that?"

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, has poured scorn on Blatter's quota proposal.

The Frenchman said: "I am against it. Sport is competitive and competition is based on merit.

"It does not matter where you are born, it matters who you are.

"It is my first responsibility for my club for us to play the best football, with the best players."

The Football Focus survey also asked for opinions on several other important issues, notably:

78% said too much money is spoiling the game
85% said match tickets are too expensive
And 63% want the introduction of video technology

83
Yeah people, ah take a li'l rest from Jackula to heal meh soul and ah back again....

Ah gave it a li'l thought and sumting jess hit meh. So ah say leh meh write it dong quick b4 ah fuhget.
After de disappointment of not seeing my heroes selected on de team, ah said to meh self: ....."Wait ....wait .... wait".  "What am I feeling sad about?" Is actually a good thing how things turning out and dis is why:

1.  A blessing in disguise, that Jackula revealed ( especially to our locals) the true extent of his viciousness and traitor-like tendencies for naive folks to see. He would rather destroy everything around him, including national heritage and pride, hopefully causing enough collateral damage in his tantrum of rage, to scare players and justice seekers from holding him responsible, in order to protect his pocket from accountability, auditing, honest enquiries and summons by a court of law.

2. Warriors became big-time principled men who chose principle over temptation. Cannot put a price to the value of that rare commodity. They will have real supporters and not bandwaggonist cheerleaders who disappear when the game celebration and drinking in Trotters is over.

3. The establishment of FPATT was accelerated.

4. FPATT, probably the most progressive entity for social development being developed in T&T, will start the conceptualization for locals, especially footballers, of putting the nail in the coffin of the enslaving and exploitative characteristics of our sports institutions.

5. Instead of taking our money to give to a club say that may just be interested in celebration of wining, drinking, jumping and sellin' tickets and juzzies, I could finally see where I could channel my money and other professionals' monies into an FPATT-like organization.  The knowledge that support for the warriors, ones who have made me so happy and proud, would manifest as funds towards their true welfare , would be very heartwarming. Trust me, a flood of money would go to FPATT by people who see clean non-corrupted administrators like Sancho, Jack, Shaka, Stern, Lincoln, Lasana, kentsoulman, E-man, Patriot...fellas with honesty and integrity and a wholesome agenda.

6. It goes without saying for me, that if ah ever ah smell de dirty hands of men touchin' de FPATT money, like Jackula, Scamps, Rodent, De Spolksman, SF de offisah, Simple Simon, de Singing Valentine, Ian Press-cut, Alvin Corn-meal, CranBerry Juice, d.c.s or any other "bamsee smellers", (as coined by nigel fabien) den I certainly bussin' it wit my money and I am convinced that all the donors, friendly foundations and other philanthropists would do the same as corruption is a big turn-off to potential supporters. FPATT has certainly gotten the attention of well-wishers, so Sancho take note. Is not in vain. (Ah thought Press-cut had some integrity, but I was apparently wrong)

7. Without FPATT, footballers would be sitting-duck prey for the tentacles of marauding exploiters, locally and abroad, they recognizing that, most times, the players are from poor neighbourhoods and their only hope is to say yes Massa to Jackula-the pimp's free meals, "spethial advithorth" favours, and carrot-an-stick foolishness.

8. Footballers now destined to be candidates for life after football instead of vagrancy without a big wuk, thanks hopefully to a fully materialized FPATT.

9. On another note, the so-called "scab"-warriors (really the bench or "B-team") most of whom are players we actually like too, (as a warrior is a warrior) get a chance to go to the next level, helping the local league to grow. The "B team" players get a chance to travel and taste the real life out there and get out from under the dotish dependency wing of Jackula

10. Additionally, the "B team" now can take their share of licks like a man in de Gold Cup without the protection of the A team, which even we on this forum take for granted, as we call them (the "A team") "shittongs" and such names.

11. Recognition that the "A team" warriors are really our back-bone warriors, protecting the country from humiliation and shame, would be a new realization as the "B team" struggles.

12. Value of de "A team" goes up while these "A team" players walk away and see about personal development. Carlos, Yorke, Stern, Jones, Ince, Jack, Samuel, Sancho, Scotland, Birchall, Avery,Tallest, Andrews, Whitley, Grey, Glen would be better off escaping de wild-blade tackle of some taco-munching guatemalan while their careers are on the move or in flux like Sancho's. Carlos and the others should fly out of T&T now and let Jackula send him and them  a ticket from England, if Jackula wants to play poker games. It makes no sense hanging around "jess in case" as that is a show of weakness.

13. Jackula would have to come beggin' soon, as the World Cup qualifiers and warm ups start soon. The "A team" players must be focused elsewhere and take Jackula off dey mind. Let de lawyers deal with him and they talke care of their families.

14. By the time the World Cup qualifiers start, The "A team" would have been better complimented by the good "level-licks" initiation of the preeviously called "B-team", that would have put some hair on dey chest finally. Maybe two or three of the "A team" would be gone but 5 or 6 of the "B team" would have risen to the next level by necessity. Doh worry, dis eh de only Gold Cup. The saga is about to continue jess now so allyuh pay attention to Jackula's fidgety moves.

15. Discovery of new support group talent: Kentsoulman and other tireless soldiers.

16. Maturation of other talent : weary  ;D

17. Writing skills of SW.net members developed.

18. Recognition by SW.net members of their access to the media if they really try to write.

19. Recognition by the Warrior Nation that life is more serious. This should help them mature as an organization.

20. The seeds of the downfall of Jackula have been sewn.

21. The sweetest victory for the "A warriors" would be soon realized when their principled sacrificial stand leads to change. Daiz de real victory that will deserve an award.  :applause:

22. Remember, even a hoe does eventually realize what to do, and call de poilce, when de pimp lash she in she mout' hard enough and de beatings geh outta hand.

Martinez has been tracking St Johnstone striker Jason Scotland

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez is planning to dip into the Scottish market to strengthen his squad.

The Swans have already been linked with moves for St Johnstone striker Jason Scotland and St Mirren's John Sutton and David van Zanten.

Martinez also still has strong links with former club Motherwell.

"The Scottish market is thriving and more affordable than the English league and it's something the club should tap into," said Martinez.

Scotland is out of contract in August, but Swansea could face competition for the Trinidad & Tobago international.

Birmingham City, Southend and former club Dundee United have also been tracking the 28-year-old, who has scored 26 goals for Scottish First Division side St Johnstone this season.

Sutton is also out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to agree terms with the Scottish Premier League side.

Defender van Zanten has a year left on his contract.

Keane blasts League over trophy
May 6, 2007

www.bbc.com

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/6630723.stm

Sunderland boss Roy Keane was angry after his side win the Championship title by winning 5-0 at Luton - but were not presented with the trophy.

Title rivals Birmingham's boss Steve Bruce also expressed his surprise at the League's policy of not presenting the trophy at an away ground.

"It is a PR disaster that we did not pick it up today," Keane fumed.

"The supporters paid good money to travel here to watch us. I don't think safety would have been a problem."

Earlier in the week, Bruce had said: "I can't understand the logic of it.

"The players have slogged away for 46 games and can't get the trophy because it's on an away ground - it's an insult.

"I picked up the Premiership trophy with Manchester United at Middlesbrough, and the Middlesbrough people were hugely respectful."

Reflecting on the game, Keane also paid tribute to chairman Niall Quinn.

"It is nice to go up as champions, and there is a massive challenge ahead," he said.

"I will meet Niall and the board next week, and we will look at what kind of money is available.

Niall Quinn and the board do not interfere, and that is why it has worked

Sunderland boss Roy Keane
"There are a few players at the back of my mind who I would like to bring to the club, but that is just the start. Signing them is sometimes easier said than done.

"They are good players, at good clubs, and they are under contract. You have to set your standards very high, and we will have to raise the bar next season.

"It is going to be very hard, and I am not predicting we will win it, but I predict we will add something to the Premiership.

"But Niall and the board do not interfere, and that is why it has worked. It would not have done otherwise."

Meanwhile, Luton boss Kevin Blackwell admitted his side had been outclassed - conceding that it had looked like "men against boys".

However, he was quick to pay tribute to the Keane-Quinn partnership.

"Roy has been different class, but Niall has to take monumental praise as he has done a fantastic job," Blackwell said.

"They have a good manager and a dynamic young board, and, at the moment, it looks like the perfect marriage."

Allyuh eh realize that we eh gettin' much stories (especially from certain writers) on these players anymore. I am baffled  ??? . Anybody could help me figure out dis one please. I am soooo confused.

Once upon a time, all of us were calling dem heroes and I would gobble up any juicy stories about them that my favourite sports writers like Shaun Fuentes would pen. The socawarriors.net message board was chock full of all de exploits of John, Jones, Birchall, Gray, Sancho, Whitley, Samuel, Avery.  We used to be concerned how well Glen was healing and we used to call Latapy, The Little Magician. Boy dose were de days eh. Buh is like dey geh dump in the rubbish dump of history dread, to be used like toilet paypah. Is like.......naaaaaaahh....is like........naaaaaaahhh.......like dey want us to fuhget dem dread.   :-\ . Maybe I jus' imaginin' eh fellas. Maybe I'm just tired, so fuhgeh wha' ah say dere.

Anyway, Mr Fuentes, I know you are busy, but could you just check into that for me and just say hello to dem fellas as I don't want them to think that we takin' them for granted. If you geh a chance, could you also convey a message from all of us, and obviously you too (you eh have a problem with that right  :-[ ) that we will never forget what they have done for this country and that we will never stab them in de back nor spite them nor conspire to destroy them as they have soca in dey blood... soca in dey vey-ey-ins, just like us. Ent?

Doh try dat. Ah know what yuh thinkin'.  Yuh feel I wondrin' if it have a malicious news boycott on de players by certain news media, right?  Fellas I eh so sick to think dat. Daiz de heights of deluded conspiracy-theory thinking dread. Oh gor' man. Not in T&T. We is one love people and we doh move so with we heroes. Is jess an accidental perception. Right?

Ah really wish though that ah could understand wha' happened.  :beermug:

Everyone's out to beat Cats
March 29, 2007
Sunderland Echo

ROY Keane says he knows Sunderland are the team everyone wants to beat in the Championship promotion race. But he says he has full confidence in his players's ability to deliver the goods.

He said: "I suppose we are the team that everyone is looking at because we have gone on such a long unbeaten run. "When you come up through the pack in the way that we have – unbeaten this year – people tend to sit up and take notice.

"That can bring its own pressure. "But I've got no worries whatsoever. "All I do is look at my players in training and this week I have to say they have been great, there's been a great desire among them.

"There's excellent competition in training and you can sense that they can't wait for the games to come around. "They just want to get on with it and that attitude gives me a lot of confidence. "I've got great faith in them."

The squad returned to training this week after a fortnight's break to accommodate international games.
And Keane believes that the break could not have come at a better time.

He said: "Normally you wouldn't want a break when you are in the middle of a good run. "But I just sensed that the players were getting a little tired and jaded just before the break came.

"We've been under a lot of pressure for a long time because we were trying to catch up with the leading teams and that means that every game had the feel of a must win game.

"The lads have done brilliantly but I thought there were signs that the strain was beginning to tell.
"Now they've come back looking really refreshed and eager to get on with the job and that is exactly what I hoped for.

"You can never predict the outcome of a football match and Crdiff will be a tough game.
"It might be that our unbeaten run comes to an end there because anything can happen in a football match.

"But at this moment in time I know that the attitude of the players is great and as long as that's the case you'll always have a chance."

Creditable comeback in Gosier.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

Stade Municipal Gosier, Guadeloupe: A young developing Trinidad and Tobago side showed real determination to come back and draw with an experienced Guadeloupe side in this very entertaining Digicel International Match in Guadeloupe.
Trinidad and Tobago started the game very brightly and with so many new young faces brought in to impress coach Wim Rijsbegen they wasted no time in showing him their worth in his side. With Densill Theobald unable to travel due to injury, Gary Glasgow had the honour of taking up the captain’s armband and he quickly set about opening his account for the evening.
After only 14 minutes Fausta was called into making two fine stops. The first of which came from Glasgow after a nice interexchange with Christian Baptiste, and the second when he was confronted by Andre Toussaint on a one-on-one situation but managed to get his hands behind the pacey centre forwards stinging shot.
On 16 minutes, and against the run of play, Guadeloupe opened the scoring. When Dwayne Jack gave the ball away under pressure from Xavier Bematol, his team mate Seon Power stepped in to assist, but, his attempted clearance rebounded off the unfortunate Jack and fell perfectly into the path of the on-running Bematol who coolly slotted the ball home from the left edge of the 18 yard box as Marvin Phillip came out to claim the wicked rebound.
The "Soca Warriors"gained composure quickly and looked to gain parity as fast as possible. The chance came on 20 minutes when a free kick was awarded to the visitors on the edge of the Guadeloupe box. Christian Baptiste stepped up and hit a thunderous left footed drive just the wrong side of the right hand post.
After 36 minutes Guadeloupe almost took advantage of another disastrous defensive error when Seon Power’s attempted header back to his keeper under pressure from the experienced Jocelyn Angloma, left the former French International knicking the ball over the advancing Phillip but fortunately for the T&T keeper his effort went just over the bar.
Guadeloupe did get their second though on 41 when Steve Bizacene played a delightful ball through the centre of the T&T defensive to the lethal Xavier Bematol who did again what he did earlier and ran through to coolly slot the ball past the onrushing Phillip.
Christian Baptiste had a golden chance to peg one back for Wim Rijsbergen’s side when he controlled the ball beautifully on the left edge of the box but drilled his shot into the side netting when it seemed more likely he would score.
The lanky left sided midfielder made amends when 2 minutes into the restart he pulled one back for the soca warriors after a well worked free kick.
Nigel Daniel played the free kick short to Glasgow who stopped the ball dead for Baptiste to step up and hit a thunderbolt of a free kick at goal which proved too hot for Fausta to handle as his attempted save simply bounced off his hands and fell gently into the corner of the net.
Trinidad seemed to take the initiative and almost had a superb equalizer moments later when Seon Power’s run and cross from the right was controlled beautifully on the thigh of Andre Toussaint who met the ball sweetly on the full with a thunderous volley that flew just inches over Fausta’s bar.
The soca warriors showed true grit and started to really take control of the game and on 62 minutes drew level with a moment of individual brilliance from Andre Toussaint. With his back to goal and 20 yards out, Toussaint received the ball from Trent Noel, turned sweetly to his left and thumped an unstoppable shot to the bottom left corner of Fausta’s net to bring parity to this very exciting game.
The French West Indies side were determined however to make the home crowd go home happy and when presented with a free kick just 18 yards out they looked to former Marseille Valencia and French international Angloma to put them back in front. However the French superstar could not find anyway past a determined Phillip in the T&T goal as he went full length to punch the free kick wide to safety.
Angloma called Phillip into action only moments later again when he saved one handed from a tight angled shot which seemed as if it may sneak into the roof of the net.
However it was Nigel Daniel who had the last chance of the game when his free kick from 18 yards out was destined to go into the top corner but for a one handed superb save from a flying Fausta.
Level pegging it ended and a fair result for two sides that seem to be preparing well for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup with this first Digicel International Match.

Keane's double boost
23 March 2007
Sunderland Echo

GRAHAM KAVANAGH and Stephen Elliott have returned to training to boost Sunderland's promotion hopes.

The Black Cats pair joined in with their colleagues this week before the squad took a three-day break. But boss Roy Keane stressed today that he will take no chances with the two Republic of Ireland internationals.

Kavanagh hasn't played a game in 2007 after breaking down with a knee injury in December. He had his second operation of the campaign in January.

Elliott has not featured since the 4-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday on January 20 and had an ankle operation five weeks ago, but both men joined in training yesterday, while Carlos Edwards (shoulder) has also been running.

Keane said: "Having players back lifts the other players, Carlos and Kav have been running and Sleeves joined in with the first-team lads yesterday, just nice and light towards the end and he did well.

"It's brilliant, it's good for any player who has had an injury to get out on the training pitch, I'm sure they have been frustrated. To see these lads on the training pitch is a great boost for us ahead of what will be an important couple of months.

"We'll still have to be careful with them but I hope they will be involved before the end of the season."

Sunderland go into the international break sitting third in the Championship on the back of a 13-game unbeaten run. Winger Edwards missed the last three of those games. There is an outside chance he will make the Wearsiders' next fixture, at Cardiff City a week tomorrow, but Easter looks a more likely target.

"The surgeon Carlos has seen looks after the rugby lads so sometimes his mindset is a bit different to ours," said Keane. "We don't think Carlos will be hitting anyone waist height or upwards, like in rugby, so we're hoping we can cut one or two weeks of the initial timescale.

"He's a fit lad and he has been able to keep jogging. He's looking really well and making fantastic progress. "Cardiff might be too soon but you have to remember that the following week we have a couple of games in three days (at home to Wolves on April 7 then away to Southampton on Easter Monday, April 9).

"We'll need the squad for that. If he was to be involved then, that would be great for us."

H Andy Welsh last night completed his move to Toronto FC, while French winger William Mocquet joined Bury on loan to the end of the season.

Well, Preston just ress dong some licks on Southampton and collected 3 juicy points to put them back into contention again just like when the season started. Southampton had to play without Jones who picked up an injury. Quite frankly, without Jones, Preston looked much more dangerous than Southampton and Nugent and that Ghanian fella are dangerous. After dat I see Preston as a bigger threat and such not be taken lightly. They also have a game in hand. Good luck to Jones.
