This makes it clear for us which team has to be denied points and whether it is in our final interest for Costa Rica to do better than Guatemal or vice versa. Costa Rica just beat Guatemala and surged ahead.

Something I don't think we have been utilising properly is Andrews firepower in the air on corners.  I know he goes up but the corner-kickers not findin him.

Man if he get his head on a good corner is trouble.  A time I see in the Scottish league a man breaks from his header on goal.

Someone made the comment that we need a free-kick taker.  That same man should send in the corners for Dog.  If we could find such a man.

Very good point. Andrews could be secret weapon, but must be covered well in the fast counter attack

I second thatose observations. It broke my heart when I heard that Ince was not going to Mexico. No disrespect to Jack, who tried his best but is a liability for very potent teams like Mexico, USA etc. His distribution is another weak point.

I too believe that Glen is an important option for the USA game.

This thread is important. I'll be there coming down from Maryland/DC and bringing new people. This is no joke!  Is war! We must humiliate Honduras and shock them with crowd support and let alll Latinos take notice!

The other weapon that we can really develop on easily is crowd support in away games, especially in the States. Trinbagonians are every where on the east coast and many are just waiting to be shown how to network. The FAQ and CREW MEET UP message board is an awesome resource and must be read by all site visitors, and info from it sent to friends and relatives. Let me tell you someting. There are alot of Hondurans in Miami and I mean alot, but they CANNOT touch the amount of trinis in Miami and environs. They need to be galvanized for the Gold Cup game against Honduras on wednesday July 6th in Miami and the other games. We really should not be a minority in the stadium! Too many sleeper communities of trinis. Any other country with our foreign-based population base would have 20,000 supporters in any football stadium on the east coast. We have to stop farting around and develop some national pride!

Similarly for the game in East Hartford, Connecticut against USA (World Cup qualifier) which could launch us with a good crowd. We should start buying out the tickets and networking to sell them. My base is DC/ Maryland. Crowd support has a lot to do with psychology and performance. Mexico is not just powerful because of their skill but because of their intimidating crowds.

Respect to Flex for the info on the FAQ and CREW MEET UP board. I recommend this info being seen immediately on entering the site (not sure how do do it) as some folks never thingk of clicking on that section.

Yes Abdool, the top 3 teams in Concacaf are guaranteed to make it to the World Cup. The 4th team from Concacaf also has a chance if it wins the playoff against the 5th placed Asia team. With Asia being somewhat weak after number 4 then our 4th placed team has more than a 50% chance.

The original post assumes of course that we WILL NOT come 5th.  Believe your dream and it will happen and we will score in the 90th minute with our backs against the wall.

Thanks for the info on Sancho, Tallman. Depending on the extent of the "pull" injury, he may or may not recover in time for the Gold Cup.

By the way, does anybody know the latest on Sancho? Job hunting? I see Cornell Glen is keeping active and scoring.  These 2 will strenghten the squad and create vuluable depth as the yellow cards pile up. If Avery is out, in comes Sancho and vice versa.

How rocky is the road going to be in the suspense for qualification?

Firstly, after our positive showing in Mexico with our new confidence in defense (even without Sancho), we have managed to get over the complex over playing away in Mexico. We will never again tolerate the kind of slaughters that we've experienced in Mexico and next time we will try to conquer Mexico in their backyard. As a result, playing away to USA, Costa Rica and Panama will not intimidate us at all. We have found new self-confidence away from home. Thus, getting 3 points away in these above mentioned countries is very possible and 3rd spot is definitely a possibility.

Still, if we come fourth and have to playoff against Asia, then let's see.  The Asia group is jnow at an A and B group stage, each group containing 4 teams.  Asia gets 4 teams to the world cup with their 5th placed team playing our fourth placed team. This reveals some good news

Current Asia standings after 5 out 6 home and away games:

Group A:   S. Arabia       11
               S. Korea        10
               Kuwait           4
               Uzbekistan      2

Group B:   Iran               13
               Japan             12
               Bahrain            4
               N. Korea          0

So with 1 more game to go, and assuming the the top 2 in each Asia group go through, it seems that S. Arabia, S. Korea, Iran and Japan will be through and the 5th spot will be fought amongst Kuwait, Bahrain and Uzbekistan. Should we come 4th in Concacaf, then one of these 3 teams would be our opposition for a home and away play off.  Not bad at all for any of the Concacaf teams to be in that position. On the way to Germany!

Finally that Gold Cup will be our perfect dress rehearsal for the rest of the worlld cup qualification. Our group contains Honduras, Panama and Colombia. Top 2 in each group automatically qualifying. Game 1 against Honduras in Miami showing(?Live) on the Hispanic channel Galavision at 9:15 pm. So there you have it.

« on: June 04, 2005, 02:27:36 PM »
Is it really true that Sancho is out?  He is our most composed defender. Our defense, its composure and international exposure is a little suspect and is really our weakness, as all teams have a weakness somewhere. Good luck Avery John. What worries me is that Beenie seems to be banking also on Tallman who tends to struggle with the quick footed dribbling central americans.  Al I can say is I'm backing my team 100% and I suspect the technical staff is aware of using intense teamwork to make up for individuals. The attack is ready! I pray for the defense.  Let's roll T&T!!!!!!!. Carlos, Birchall, Rahim Dwight, Stern, Ince and Jones will carry our attack to a new level and put Panama on the defense giving our defense less to do.  TnT 3, Panama 0.

Alberta Trini,
We'll be ok.  I am curious to know how much composure Anto Pierre, Atiba Charles, Nigel Henry and Thomas have for a big moment like this. Anybody knows enough about these players.

Football / Re: Eve is a boss
« on: March 25, 2005, 03:55:47 PM »
Angus Eve has always been a heart an soul player.  Recently has been scoring some awesome goals at critical points in time. He has been an UNSUNG HERO for a long time. Not a flashy nor imposing player but a work horse especially good as a winger with bursts on the right side.  Has been there since the junior world cup with Yorke and others and was there with the strike squad and after. Almost all coaches have selected him and realized his value.
It is sad to see how we have so many cruel and potentialy demoralizing things about him and that is a reflection of some weaknesses in our culture. We have no respect and give no recognition to our cultural ambassodors, artists, writers etc.  We are not allowed to have heroes and we must always let a few flaws or mistakes overshadow their tremendous contributions whether it be Crawford, Yorke, Latapy, Boldon, Orville Adams, Spiderman Carter, Michael Maurice, Leonson Lewis, Jamerson. The net result is that you end up in the rubbish dump of history.  A country aspiring to achievements of greatness can't afford to do that.
Anyway, if ever T&T needs a do or die inspirational play or goal, which is what it takes to reach the World Cup ( as Jamerson did countless times), I am calling on Eve, once his legs are not too tired. I agree that he should be officialy recognized for his contribution and sacrifice (for hardly any monetary gain by the way).  Don't wait till one of our players is on their death bed, or homeless as is customary.  Make them officially a hero now. Make them feel appreciated. Avoid retiring or dismissal with acrimonious feelings. Encourage them to give back and invest in the future. Can't afford to create the kind of feelings that Latapy has felt.
One of our problems is that we have (and rightly so) insecurities about our defense which cause us to over-invest in defensive midfielders and we force attacking midfilders to hold back or bench them. Hence we aren't able to perform in our trademark attacking fashion. So we are afraid to use Eve, Spann, Dwarika etc. Once our defense is thought to be tight enough though, we will be able to just walk into Guatemala for example and start guns blazing from the whistle. Really do miss Dexter Francis, Clayton Morris and the rest. But we will get there. Just don't stop supporting. Losing is painful but you cannot desert if you are are a real supporter.

Nigel fabien,

Very valuable information on closed circuit listings.  If I were still in Maryland/DC it would be even easier.  I will be flying to Atlanta tonight. Will definitely seek out the place on Buford Highway in Atlanta tomorrow. Can't afford to go through the suspense of following the game via postings even though the message board is crucial.   T&T is going to pull it off!

Football / Scenario after next 2 games
« on: March 25, 2005, 08:34:17 AM »
As a football fan and supporter, I am backing these boys WITHOUT PANICKING to the end. World cup football qualification is nerve racking stuff and Trinbagonians have got to get used to the ups and downs and have patience. I would avoid drastic coach changes but unfortunately for some its ONLY about getting to the world cup and I understand that desperate amounts of money are at stake from the creditors. Anyway I desperately want these boys to make it.  Here are some thoughts

Truly sorry that Glenn can't play, but as they say, a team must be deep to the bench so nobody is desperately missed.  We might be able to do without solid Andrews. We would be in more trouble without him against Costa Rica , USA and Mexico's tall striker

Current standings: Mex 3, USA 3, Guat 1, Pan 1, CostaR 0, T&T 0

After Sat 26/Sun 27 ( Guat/T&T 0-1), ( Mex/USA  3-1), CostaR/Pan 2-0) standings will be: Mex 6, USA 3, Guat 1, Pan 1, CostaR 3, T&T 3

After  next game   (T&T/CostaR  1-1), (USA/Guat 2-0), (Pan/Mex  0-4) standings will be Mex 9, USA 6, Guat 1, Pan 1, CostaR 4, T&T 4

So 4 points if we can play like we are possessed in Guatemala.

1. Stern is going to score. He is fired up.
2. Dwight is going to step up an be more of a menace in the danger zone and draw more defenders away from Stern.
3. Do or die Eve is is goin to play his heart out. To decide if he should wait for the 2nd half burst or play early when we might be more tight and defensive. he is best used when we are flowing and breaking away with nothing to lose.
4. Tiger is going to fight for turnovers.  Tough as their midfild short passing antics could make him a perpetual ball chaser. Doh dig no horrors. Still valuable for pressure. He will be very tired and may need subbing at the end.
5. Atiba will impress.
6. Anton will impress.
7. Edwards is going feed crosses well not just for Stern but also for Jones
8. Sancho will be very solid. Somebody has to hold on to Ruiz like crazy glue. He is real trouble. Mark my words.
9. I fear Lawrence might be vulnerable against the C-american dribbling but is on stanby for injuries i these closely arranged games. He makes me worried. I suspect Bertille might have him on the bench unless he thinks the moment ie too awesome for the new defenders.
10. Shaka will save many shots. Clayton is fine also.
11. Missing Glenn. Possibly Jones may make somethin happen. Pierre's slowness worries me but when he gets a shot somehow he does it. Hard for him to combine with Stern

Let's go T&T.  My pride comes from the effort (win or lose) as we evolve.  Remember, as those standings suggest we are not the only ones sweatin'.  It' all about bluffing and psyching your opponent. Look fearless.
