Don't want to " poop " on anyone's parade but when you lay down a hard head on a soft pillow close your eyes and dream of YnT in a World Cup against Brazil and winning, areyou excited with premature fantasies?

While in the realms of sports some possibilities do exist - we did hold off the Colonial England till close to extra time in our only WC appearance!!
But how frequently could we be assured of qualifying? To get past the likes of Mexico
We are struggling to even get by some of the lesser talented  teams in this qualifying round- panic has struck- we are not even leading at this group
stage- and there is a proliferation of doubt as we are embarking to take on the giants of  Bahamas and St Kitts!!
Week even talking about the li,es of Jamaica just yet- so while you lay down and sleep say ah pray dream big and if reality sucks  you can achieve all you want in the fantasy of an illusionary dream.

« on: June 01, 2021, 07:45:28 AM »
In another year of dancing with qualifications we once more  are bombarded with the same issues of old:

We begin the epic search scarvenging for any foreign born player eligible to represent TnT - anyone who may not be good enough to represent their country of north but can realize a dream via their heritage- sweet TnT- we adore thee.

We question our local governance and castigate blame for our lack of success.
Our defensive woes is habitually part of our DNA
We look and hope for some ' star bois'
And oh yes- we need a foreign coach cause while we have local coaches achieving success abroad we eh have time patience or the cultural mind set  to see them as good enough to take us to the promise land.

So if these reoccurring  events are forever  cropping up is there a possibility that in the mirror of our footballing  success we could possibly see how our cultural  ways of knowing of doing and of being is impacting our success?

We should be trying to cap as many of our foreign youth players as possible as we have such a small pool before they get picked up by other nations. If he could play for Toronto, he at least have the potential to play for our senior team after already represented TT at the Junior level. Our administration is sleeping.

With all due respect to these  youths whose dreams probably are filled with representing their country of birth - as are the home grown youths of TnT . Should we be relying on the cultivation of foreign born nationals who because of a parentage may chose option B ?  This  way of thinking is at the expense of the proper development, program infrastructure and opportunities of our local youths . The focus should be on nurturing own local product-
There is a residual colonial thinking which permeates our perception that local is never good enough. Witness opportunities  to include  a young u capped local player recently. Talk start about his fathers influence . The young man just want a chance- he went to Ireland  he grew up here his dreams were here with TnT. It's not a plan B or after thought?

Let's  create conditions to foster success in our local youths to aspire and to achieve for the greater good of TnT.

Could you tell us what changes you may need to make to our cultural mindset which continues to impact our approach to the game?
Are you aware of  the  priority that is given to the womenwarriors national team over the past years?
Currently one of our up and coming female coaches is contracted to Anguilla would  you consider lobbing to have her on your staff?

What a shame our people never thought of leaving TT since the 60s like most West Indians did.I suppose life was too sweet for almost half of the population, the other half was too poor, to even think about going abroad.Every other Island including Guyana could call upon players who were born abroad, in better footballing countries. We better forget bout outsiders because the best teams we ever had was all Trinis born and bred,ah cyah forget The Strike Squad, and back in 1970 when were robbed by Haiti and their HENCHMEN.We eh got nobody abroad, and even when we have, they don't want to play for us.TBH, who in their right mind would want to play for TT if they read this MB :(

Have to remember beer that inthose times TnT was like el dorado- people less fortunate were coming to us. The most fortunate of TnT were the ones who were going abroad.

TTFA- serves :
-A . development of football programs of TnT
B.   The pro league?
C:  act as the local football governance for FIFA
D-  FIFA's asset management and dispersal of funds

If any of these are indeed some aspect of truth where and why ought the government to be involved?

I recalleda prior government' attempt to create a sporting  e Tito - SPORTT(sic)  weallknow the story of how funds were channeled by one AR ministry.

Ent the Normalization committee was put in place to right the alleged wrongdoing bs and correct mismanagement? In TnT dat eh as easy as dey figured? Is ah.egacy of incompetence- so much so that it has become 'normal' so to even attempt to bring normalacy is only being swallowed by a web of further incompetencies. One day, we will analyze and discuss what led up to the events of 1990. Including why many TT ppl were disenfranchised with the situation of the ‘80’s. Mostly why such events should be avoided and by extension the real reasons behind today’s criminal elements.
I would only say, as this is a football forum, thank god, Mandela didn’t go before a firing squad, just because they could do it. Otherwise Africa may not have gotten a World Cup. Not all ppl of any sect or group are hopelessly bad, not all good either. Some youths might mean well but don’t realize what they getting into. Not an excuse for anybody (not even Shabazz), but the young can be easily led astray, why there are young gangstas all over the world. Many start off with good intentions, until the shit hit the fan, then everyone smell bad. We have t
o save the ones we can.

With all due respect - the cause and the system which gave rise to Mandela's actions is paramount and could inno way equate to those who led or were part of an act of treason against the government.
Where innocent lives were lost as collateral damage? You had army leaders whose sworn oath to defend and protect a nation not act in ways to disrupt - armed insurrectionist against unarmed citizens - some of whose lives were lost.
Yet  some of these same insurrectionist were then given land and build fortified compounds under the guise of a religion to establish cells fro which to create the seeds of gangs as we know it today.  The aftermath and messaging of that event in Trinidad showed that anyone could get away with the highest form of treason and be rewarded.
The situation in SA and Mandela was not even close- the causes of oppression were of different magnitude. So while there is always a root cause or motive for actions - a story which may have been told - a messaging used to incite action- look at how Trumped incited the masses- Hitler's  propaganda another- in my opinion our judicial laws were too lienent in dispensing justice-

Today is the same judicial laws which again permitting criminals to walk freely - when corruption among high ranking officials could remain unpunished because the law is being used to bufffer a verdict then we are in essence allowing  lawlessness-
in TnT we all have " back stories" - why has there been no conclusive soluntion to the insidious ambush and killing of Dana Seetahal? We have speculation- what was the big reason?  What ever happened to a former sports minister under the previous government- he fled the country at one time? What ever happened to a former attoney  General?

You have someone today again who was in some way part of these events leading teams and talking bs about coaching yet himself achieved short term minimal success without sustainable results- in many ways he is part of what I am seeing as " mercenary coaches" plying their trade to countries who do not have the local expertise or who cannot afford the big names- so opportunities are afforded and these so called coaches parlay their skills to the highest bidder yet for all their knowledge and expertise they are unable to create success in their homeland but now want to spew venom on the present situation.
Nah in my personal opinion this joker will never be a credible source to speak about coaching. He should consider himself fortunate that he was given an opportunity at a second life - to run a club- and don't forget all the football equipment and balls that were taken after the JW years and turnover in the TTFA.
Validibity credability moral character are components / traits you look for in a coach and if the foundation is compromise so shall the structure.

But why ? Only the arm chair coaches have opinion ? Only Fenwick and he smartman agent have right to speak, and say who can come and go ? But yuh will tell your own who has served to hush , because he made a 1 wrong step. BsC and Shabazz do they community service more than any 'to be paid' coach we ever had, and any landed immigrant coach. They could advise as they please, take it or leave it. Sometimes I leave it, but still listen. No way, I was standing -far less, keep coming back - for TTFF, TTFA  nor normalization committee bs. Many did, and so we throw dem under the bus. Ah mean AB, disagree with him(dem), but let dem talk.

You may be past 1990- but the legacy of that act has laid the foundation for the preponsity of criminality  in today's society- too bad those mutinous treacherous tyrannous actions were not dealt with in a more severe manner- I.e firing squad.

Yep. I think we are well past 1990 in the context of a man's opinion about football. Plus, it is not like Fenwick didn't have strongly asserted opinions when Shabazz and others were in the hot seat.

What's going on with St. Lucia and WC qualifying?

St Lucia footballers demonstrate before SLFA office against withdrawal from World Cup qualifiers
By Leighton Levy (sportsmax.tv)

National footballer players in St Lucia demonstrated in front of the St Lucia Football Association (SLFA) headquarters in Castries today against the country’s withdrawal from the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

They also protested the absence of communication between the players and the association and the disrespect shown to the country’s local-based players, who they feel were not even being considered for the qualifiers.

St Lucia was to have played Nicaragua in Nicaragua today in Group E of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Pushed to the point of frustration, the players marched to the SLFA office in Castries calling for the resignation of SLFA President Lyndon Cooper.

Bearing placards saying ‘Lyndon Cooper must go’, the players are of the view that the SLFA president told FIFA that the pandemic was the primary reason behind the decision to withdraw from the World Cup qualifiers. However, they believe otherwise.

Zaine Pierre, who has been representing his country for about 12 years now, and who believes Cooper has done nothing to improve local football in Lucia since he became president, told media outlets covering that protest that there were indications from last year that they would not be playing.

“These guys had no intention to take part in the World Cup. I remember clearly about a year ago this president was like, ‘the chances of us qualifying is slim and it makes no sense,' so right now Covid is just an excuse for them to pull out,” said Pierre, who said in recent times the national team won two games, drew one and lost another yet the president said that that was not good enough.

Pierre also indicated that the SLFA does not respect local players preferring instead to use those playing in the lower leagues in the United Kingdom for any campaign. It is believed that travel restrictions would have prevented those players from travelling to St Lucia to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.

Pierre told Sportsmax.TV that the federation did not contact any local clubs seeking the release of their players for training camps despite the fact that some of them had as much as 15 years experience representing the country.

The midfielder, who was also quoted in a story published yesterday on Sportsmax.TV, saying they had heard nothing official from the SLFA regarding the qualifiers, showed Sportsmax.TV a message he said the president sent him afterwards via Whatsapp saying, “Who told u that u was part of St Lucia team and any team was call by the SLFA to be release by their club for national training…”

What is particularly frustrating for Pierre and other locally-based players, is that the SLFA’s decision to withdraw from the qualifiers robs them of the opportunity to play in a World Cup competition when they are in their prime.

“We just need an explanation as to why,” he said.

Police eventually broke up the protests in the early afternoon.

Efforts to contact St Lucia’s Minister of Sport Edmund Estaphane were unsuccessful. Sources indicate that he was off the island on Wednesday.

Shabazz: Fenwick good club coach.
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express).

HAVING himself been at the helm of national teams with inadequate resources, Jamaal Shabazz believes former England defender Terry Fenwick must shield his footballers from things taking place in the background.

“The national coach must also be a manager and not a complainer,” Shabazz declared when speaking on the latest edition of the Ascension football show with host Joel Villafana.

Shabazz, who has coached national teams of T&T, Guyana and St Lucia, along with T&T’s women’s teams, thinks some of the negative issues surrounding the Trinidad and Tobago men’s national football team is due to Fenwick’s attitude and inexperience at international football.

Shabazz also condemned the Englishman’s objection to a particular journalist being at a national team’s press conference. He said it also exposes Fenwick’s lack of international experience.

“A journalist could ask him (anything). How he responds is totally in his jurisdiction. I don’t believe in censuring who could come the press conference and who can’t come the press conference. Rubbish! Could he have done that in England?”

Shabazz has been through issues similar to which Fenwick faces with the national team, including managing inadequate resources. “He’s got to be more solution oriented. ‘Okay, this was not in place. What do I do next?’ If I as the national coach go complaining, then who solves it?” queried Shabazz. “The national coach must be the driving force behind the solution. After the game (it’s) okay (to complain).”

Having been on the island for 21 years, Fenwick has won club titles at Caribbean level with San Juan Jabloteh and Central FC, but has yet to gain a point at CONCACAF level with these teams.

Shabazz suggests that Fenwick might be bowing under the pressure to prove himself. “He has brought something to club football in T&T. That, I respect,” Shabazz conceded. “He brought a level of intensity when he came with Jabloteh and he won the (Pro) League. But he has shown a propensity to be able to only coach teams that have money...that could get the best players.”

“I respect him as a (club) coach. He is very intense, he is very competitive, and he knows what he wants to do. But he has not coached international football and it is as new to him as anything else,” Shabazz opined.

“Playing at international level and coaching at international level is two different (things),” Shabazz added. “As a competitor and as a warrior, I give Terry Fenwick full credit. But he is very inexperienced, as we are seeing now, as a national coach.”

Mental game - coming from another coach at this clos time to competition-  once a destabilizer still one- once  it's In the blood to  destabilize and create  havoc- still dey since 1990- focus o your own team and stop betraying TnT
Simply put  shut de Fck up Shabs

« on: March 23, 2021, 11:01:04 AM »
Over the past few months, many fans, including myself have  questioned, the government stance, team selection and make up and the governance  of the TTFA. Not all are without just cause. however today I was reading an article from TSN webpage regarding the Canadian Men's national team- I found some very interesting comparisons to  what is happening with  our team as well. SEE BOLD below:

Canada Soccer announced the roster Tuesday, delaying the announcement until all the players could arrive in camp and meet COVID-19 protocols. The games, both to be held in Florida because of pandemic-related travel restrictions, mark the oft-delayed start of World Cup qualifying in the CONCACAF region.

Assembling the roster from around the globe given the current conditions has not been easy.

"What a mission to get that roster in, what a mission," coach John Herdman said with a sigh. "It's been crazy."

The Canadians, ranked 73rd in the world, open Thursday against No. 169 Bermuda in Orlando before facing the No. 193 Cayman Islands on Sunday in Bradenton in first-round Group B play. They will have to play at least 18 more games if they are to make it to Qatar 2022.

Ten of the 24-man roster are 24 or younger, including the 20-year-old Davies. There are two teenagers in Theo Corbeanu and Jayden Nelson, both 18.

The roster has a combined 343 caps with Atiba Hutchinson (84), Milan Borjan (49), Samuel Piette (49), Cyle Larin (31) and Junior Hoilett (27) accounting for 240 of them. Davies has 17 caps.

Seven players
— Corbeanu (Woverhampton Wanderers), Ricardo Ferreira (unattached), Dayne St. Clair (Minnesota United, Frank Sturing (FC Den Bosch), Joel Waterman (CF Montreal), Alistair Johnston (Nashville SC) and Cristian Gutierrez (Vancouver Whitecaps) — are uncapped.

Another seven have single-digit caps.

"The goal is always to select the best players — players playing at the highest level, players in form, and then to also look at some of the prospects," Herdman said when asked about the youthful roster.

"It is a young team and it is where we're atThere is a lack of experience in here," he added in an interview. "I mean that's normal and there's some things that we're going to have to learn together. But at the same time we've got some really experienced guys in Atiba Hutchinson and Junior Hoilett and Milan Borjan. Those guys, that sprinkling of veterans gives us that wise head and, I think, a real strong leadership core."

So having read this, I will personally  take some chill pills and hope for the best  and  encourage our TnT players to do the best they can in representing TnT during this global  pandemic. You are brave and dedicated Warriors.

Dumb move at such a young age. Should have come along when he was a little more established and had more power. Those clubs hate when an english born player choose to play for another country as they see it as lowering their value. Especially if that country isn't highly rated.

Hope he isn't victimised for this decision.

It's the player's prerogative - I could only surmise as to the politics of playing or even getting an opportunity  to represent England .As someone else mentioned, there have been overtures to well established foreign players who were deemed as greater possibility to represent a foreign country, yet they held out form the TnT invite and still were not given an opportunity it's to represent the country of birth.

I don't believe that those who saw an opportunity and took the chance to represent TnT were ever " victimized" - that is speculative and unwarranted.

I could see  potentially one backlash if a player  turned down an invite to play for his country of birth and chose TnT instead -  however I don't know of any such situation where that may have occurred.
Kudos to the young man for contributing to his ancestral homeland.

these boys could ball if they want too, but the federation and the coach has to treat these players right. you can’t be owing players and treating them shabby by putting them up in two star hotels with inferior equipment and prison tactics, fenwick also has to stop acting like an emperor and before open and accommodating, or else he would get the Dennis lawrence treatment and results.

pull stones, you are saying things that have been happening to players since we started playing WC. There are some but few exceptions. I have not read Gally's book. If anyone has, did he mentioned the fiasco in Costa Rica 1969 Concacaf Nations tournament? The players rebelled. They were in sub standard hotel while the officials were in five star hotel. When they came back TTFA suspended players and the trainer Trevor "Burnt Boots" Smith(also a newspaper columnist). Smith had backed the players. So pull, there is precedent with TTFA and players when it comes to basic compensation. And yes, quite a few players have let the team down with their behaviour on many occasions.

How much more do we need to see to be convinced that there is an embedded pattern , customary norms dictated by our  instutions  which encompasses  our social behaviours , reactions, approaches , beliefs  and habits that results in the way we approach the notion of achieving  success in football in this country.
Search the site threads for each qualifying campaign and you will find the same issues being debated - the hopes of a nation ebbs and flow- TTFA  coaches players discussed to infinity yet history repeats itself- when do we step out and look inward at the cultural frame from which our thinking lies to see what's driving us to the beliefs and approaches we take?

Guyana have called Matthew Briggs who plays for Vejle BK in the Danish Superliga
Shaq Moore has not made the switch
Bostock is getting some minutes for Rovers, but he has only played three full games. I think he's looking to solidify himself at the club.
After all these years, I would be surprised if we ever see Nick DeLeon play for we

Do t think Deleon would be an asset at this point in his career- his last year's  outings were not overwhelmingly impressive.  Don't think we could default to riding and hoping that players like these would be the answer.
We paying aman 20 k us to make mountains out of molehills - to placate an illusion that a ragtag bunch will get us to WC!  Sorry for the first time - I see little hope of us getting by the first round- my opinion- my hope is that the  current players put up a fighting chance and prove me wrong .
