Football / Re: Stern up for promotion test
« on: July 20, 2006, 06:05:12 AM »
i really tink TI just come up in this badboy just to tick off berris i sure... cuz da's one of d stupidest post i ever see in my life and yuh know d sad ting it have trinis wgo actually believe dat stern doh play he heart out for the national side... the only reason i have constantly defended stern is because i have watched him play for us his whole career... go back in time 2 years... you really tink anybody could have question Stern's commitment to the national team, of the foreign based pros the only one who has been as loyal to the national cause has been Marvin Andrews.... stay at point in time... Stern wasn't we main scorer aaround dat time to??? hell he was even our leading scorer in the damn qualifiers and dat was only a year ago... now picture this... just a year ago local fans, trinidadians was quick to berate and jeer stern john ( a trinidadian player ) to the point that he had to throw back cuss at dem after he score goals for dem ( panama in stadium 0 as if he playing for the away team or sumtin... Trinidadians rel damn grateful, Lasana Liburd had write an article in express sport the week b4 the world cup about Stern John's contribution  to our qualification and amidst all the criticism and ting, men on the team even had tell d man if their was in his shoes they woulda retire and turn dey back on local football... now dat rel sad...  AND I STILL FEEL one of the reasons stern john lose his place at Birmingham cause he used to come back to play for t&T so much...

AS FOR HIS WC PERFORMANCE
I didn't go germany, but the only game i was truly let down by stern's performance was against paraguay...
i thought he played well against sweden, and my father ( who btw is not a Stern John fan ) showed me the fact that sweden stayed with 3 or at the back despite dominating the attacking end of the field was due to stern's rep more than anything else - which helped us out on defense btw...

against england he had a good game as well, considering dat terry always seemed to want to wine on him during dat game.. and i tink he force terry to make a clearance off he line, almost sneak in at the far post for a header with carragher not too far away and a tight offside call when he flick in glen attempted shot/cross... so i not sure if he didn't want to score...

now OMARLDINHO, i didn't go germany, and probably if i had see the incident u were referring to i woulda get upset, but still i considering 2 tings, stern is not d fastest striker ind world for one so the breakaway still might not have work, and also i remember that wen glen came on stern started playing deeper, actually collecting the ball in our half, so maybe glen was d man to make the run not stern, u dunno wat instructions d man had...

542

I was unaware that there is such a thing as a "natural trinidadian game"..... I have seen our tactics and style change from coach to coach.... can you explian what our natural game looks like?
Quote

hoss, i talking bout individual play, u reach on d team... trinidadians usualy tend to like d ball at their feet, to run at defenders.. look at how both dwight and stern's game changed when dey played in england... steups.. the prem only allows wingers ( which luckily carlos is ) to really run a t ppl... every thing else is quick passing and hard running and ting....

543
the premiership is the best leauge in the world . he shud go der. la liga is too slow.
that why the premiership is the most watched sports leauge in the whole world

i don't agree, i think la liga is a better league than the epl, it's popularity is probaby more bcuz of it's history dan anything tho in recent years the prem has stepped up...

544
4get premiership, i was hoping a spanish or serie a club would have jumped on carlos, his game would improve much more in those settings rather than the premier league
this is the realest tak i hear.. the english game retards the natural trinidadian game, spain, portugal or france is better for our payers devellopment

Football / Re: Problem with the Team
« on: June 22, 2006, 09:07:41 PM »
Stern is mih boy and I can say that I was a bit disappointed about his performance in the WC.

The general attacking plan seemed get the ball to Stern (from edwards, yorke or theo), let him hold it up (most often back to goal), the time the midfield (yorke, birch, whitley, samuel) get into position to blast or to play a one two with him.

That said, I notice something. Stern almost NEVER get a free ball for the whole tournament. He had men all over his back on almost every single play. Even his two best chances, England defenders was breathing down he neck at every occassion. It would sem that the WC teams had more respect for Stern than half of this board becaus they didn't just stand up and let him shoot (you know the man who does miss sitter after sitter after sitter!)

That said, something else i noticed in the paraguay game that nobody seem to bring up is how fast we revert to that BSC long ball kick and rush over the top as soon as we take the goal. I was screaming at men in the defensive midfield to put the fing ball down on the ground. 3/4 of the time when we put the ball down we would get it back immediately if PAraguay ever managed to intecept it.

I don't believe that that systematic  long ball over the top was Beenie idea and for that matter, it doesn't fit Stern game. It look like the players panic and got desperate for long stretches,, because when they came out of the dressing room, they put the ball back down. It boiled down to a lack of patience when the buildups were broken up too frequently by the PAra defensive/mid. The long ball is great for counterattacks because it gets the ball up the field fast, but in a game where we're supposed to bring the attack to the other team, thats not what we needed to do...

I think for stern to be more effective he would have had to fall back way too deep into mf but for that you need a second striker with speed...and you need to have the ball. We saw what happened with Glenn on the counter against Sweden and then it might have worked if Glenn didn't get injured against Para.

From what I saw of Kenwyne, that just wouldn't have worked with him, the only other man to do that would have been a Samuel.

Stern is neither  a speed merchant nor a dribbler. In open play his strength lies in his doggedness and determination because he seems to have lost the Stern Turn irremediably. It basically means that he either has to receive the ball perfectly over the top or that he has to drop back and try to shoot like the one he buss from outside the box against the Mexico keeper on the break. His other option is to provide screens for his teammates attack, which he did all tournament. the problem is that there weren't that many attacks...

Where he really disappointed imo was on set pieces, but I don't think the quality of the corners and free kicks were good enough (for that matter, i would like to know why me mum wasn't our designated set piece taker) to justify railing on him for not scoring given the defensive cover he had all tournament
this is a damn good post... alot of people wouldn't see this tho....
however palos 's post disturbed me a little bit.. i don't think stern should have been doing stuff like dat...

i agree with the threadstater... but the truth is the only shot we took dat was a clear shot by a striker released into the penalty was glenn's shot against sweden, playing balls across the face of goal is a 50/50 ting especially if men marking your strikers as tighly as stern was in all 3 games...
ppl like to quarrel about stern, how he born offside and shit.. but nobody eh notice dat for the offside when had get d ball behind the paraguay defence dat he tried to run off the last defender - KENWEYNE JONES NEVER DOES THIS - and with his speed he would be more effective...
stern really did not get the support required to honestly call hima dead weight and i think it's unfortunate dat ppl are saying he dragged down the team, when i all reallity you can't score if you don't get the ball into postions where chances can be taken...
of our strikers glen, stern and scotalnd have the most complete game... kenweyne jones seems to be a slow learner, and samuel's finishing is erratic...

btw i think stern had a poor game on tuesday, but i thought he played well against sweden and england and ppl just expect him to score goals so ppl say he eh do nothing...

549
this is what i does get vex with my fellow trinidadians for... there is an old saying you never know what you have unitl it's gone... when beenhakker goes i'll want to see what y'all say...
do you know that under beenhakker our largest loss has been the 3-0 defeat to the czechs???
do you know that this was the first world cup finals we ever made it to???
i can't agree with all his decisions but who in the world will give you everything you want???
geez, this is the same reason i defended stern john for so long, and thanks to you i will continue, as soon as things go wrong we forget all the good things that happen and only bring up the bad things...
in our first world cup we already have done better than costa rica who are in their 3rd and were in an arguably weaker group than us...

Jack in goal ??? theobald in midfield ::) Well beenie just cost we the 2nd rounds :'(
why yuh hadda go and say sh*t like dat???
I thought samuel would be the better option, this is a versatile line up... i like it...
avery and carlos can operate on the wings but i would have preferred samuel, i tink he would not onlly be a threat offensively but he would be more effective as cover for avery in my opinion.. latas not starting is not the end of the world ppl...

Football / Re: Bring Stern on as a sub
« on: June 11, 2006, 06:31:49 PM »
Yes, they did give up the ball too easy...buh tell which yuh prefer...somebody who give up the ball to easy, and wuk like rass to try and win it back...or somebody who give up the ball with ah fight..and dah's all, they ball give up...and you must hope somebody...like dah fella who give it up too easy, have to wuk like rass to get it back....and doh tell meh bout dah is not he job....cause nobody job, cyah be to score or keep it with difficulty...buh doh dig as ah say, it was only ah view....Yeah, I really think Stern played ok, Birchall and Theobald gave more effort...I am the type of coach (fan in this case), that prefers effort to attempt..dah's all

add: If yuh effort is towards helping the Team, even if is not your fault...I say yes..I for you.....If yuh effort benefits you, and the Team will benefit only if you are successful, well I wish yuh the best...buh I prefer others
or so just because they espended more energy they had a better game??? In dat case Cyd gray had a better game dan shaka hislop... ::) alright how much times did stern actuall give the ball in comparison the the 2 of dem? How many times did they give up the ball with 1 defender or more on the back at all times?? HOW MANY TIME DID THEY ACTUALLY WIN BACK THE BALL???
hoss, i admit i found stern was especially slow and didn't seem to challenge for the ball but to rate his performance worse dan Birchall or theobald yday, is ludicrous, yday proved dat someone should play upfront with stern, not bench him..

Football / Re: Bring Stern on as a sub
« on: June 11, 2006, 06:03:12 PM »
If Stern is to trap and hold up, surround by 2-3 defenders, shouldn't he be doing it, when those 2-3 defenders are least alert...and would maybe give him a slight leeway to work his magic...the way John plays, and he manage to make the trap, while under pressure, and he manage to safely hold up the ball, while our link men run up, and he just manages to pass to them, and the play doesn't finish with a shot,(more than 90 % don't), and those link men have to run back, cause that is their job, how much runs will they make, therefore Stern will be alone, most of the time, because of the way he plays...nb: Glen on the other hand, Left side, attack, Glen run over dey, for a ine ball, a chest trap, a true pass, right side ball. is line, is try, is shot, center ball is collect, is feed...the fella was everywhere... John still holding up.....waiting for what...2 of the 3 to fall down, Birchall/ Carlos to run 40, take on 2, and give him and open shot, and then run 40 back, immediately, to stop the opposing team....I don't think it will happen often...
I repeat, either Stern play behind the Target men, and capitalize on their hustle, or he comes on when the opposing defense are at their limits, and most likelly prone to error, cause he is the most likely to capatalize on such errors, but early in the game he could shield and hold how much he want, it requires to much work on our midfield at this level...as everyone has to play to their limits, not just do what yuh used to do, against, SVG or Genada, and expect it to work.....nb: I repeat, Stern is the best goal scorer we have, but the worst as far is work rate required....He does work hard, but unfortunately, he works hard for himself...whether intentionally or not....It requires to much of a perfect game from the rest of the Team, and puts us under high amt of pressure as we saw today...
So although Stern contributed today, his contribution was small in comparison to everyone else...even if he managed to touch 1 ball facing the goal..
Theobald was not on top his game either, but he did contribute...Whitley played well, but his running seemed as if he still carrying something....John is a big lorse, I thought that defense was playing better than I ever saw dem play, especially with the counters, to bad BeenE have to juggle again....Although Jack would have been my 1 st Choice...Shaka has always been a borse, and he was ready when called...Yorke raises our level to World Class....El CYD......Sancho started off nervous, buh did the business and more....Lawrence very good....Carlos made LUTON owners very happy, how cheap dey have him for... Birchall need to relax more, maintain the hard work, buh the head must stay cool. ...i.e. the engine working hard buh the brain operating in normal mode...doh play soca for im..give him ah ipod with some ColdPlay or some brit band so, an he go move in time nice, nice..jus teasin ;D..
Overall Team work and display - A
Shaka, Yorke, Edwards, Glen(sub) - A+
Sancho, Lawrence, Gray - A
John, Whitley(sub) - B+
Birchall, Theobald - B
Stern - C  ( he still get a good pass)

BeenE - A ( dat Glen sub was borse) for getting the guys as ready as they were.

Jus my opinion, thus one interpretation, not necessarily the only view

HOSS, you really think Birchall and theobald played better than Stern yday??????
Birchall and Theobald gave up the ball too easily... Birchall first touch was generally horrendous and he hardly made a good pass all game!!!
Theobald was too sluggish in attack and allowed too many Swdes to hustle him off the ball, Stern did well considering Í am yet to see any team do a job mraking so tighly as Mellberg and co., alyuh trinis rel ungrateful...

Football / Re: One thing I wanted Beenhakker to do !

Flex, yuh have a point maybe Jones for Stern in d last ten would have been a good sub buh at the same time who holds up the ball as well as stern,i f yuh wanted to kill time u needed a player like dat, my thoughts...

I still find men still being hard on stern, Mellberg marked Stern better than anyone i've seen..but Stern really needed some support from the central midfield to be more effective.. Theobald and Birchall both had mediocre games, Birchall especially was giving up the ball too easily and theobald needed a bit more urgency adn was too easily pushed off the ball in 50/50 challenges..

i though Aurtis should have come on earlier, i would have brought Aurtis on at half time for Birchall, Birchall was really disappointing...

the hardest thing to pick for me is d midfield... buh here's my side

                                         Hislop

kenweyne Jones (rb)   Sancho (cb) Andrews (cb) A. John (lb)

Carlos (rwm)   Aurtis (AM)   Yorke (CDM)   Samuel (lwm)

                     Stern (ST)        Glen (ST)

birchall and wise rel hard to drop, buh birchall first touch does still let mih down....
I still think samuel extra pace will be an asset as it will give avery more onus to pus forward, they have a good thing going on dat left side with colin

my subs in order of necessity
latas
birchall
wise
scotland
everybody else

561
You see many similarities between Hoalland's player pool minus Seedorf and TnT's minus Yorke?

Dotish post.

hoss, da's probably d stupid attitude too many players with name does get automatic sweat... i rel don't think yorke is head and shoulders above the rest of our midfield.... at his best he is class, but he does rel tug at times and he like Stern, could sit on d bench...

Football / Re: #14 IS D WORSE TING IN A TUGS
« on: June 02, 2006, 04:06:56 PM »
now let one a allyuh strikers step up to d plate

i dare u force my man to touches bench and show ur worth cuz if u get 1 chance and make it good it liable to have a bord littered with

12,13,15,20 is d worst ting in a tugs

 :rotfl: for real shotta.

To everybody who pounding Stern - All yuh men is real kix. Al you get some bush rum and now alyou want champagne. Stern could win the golden boot by scoring 6 against Paraguay and if we didn't qualify for the second round because sweden and hingerland beat we, you go say is he fault and he's a snake. If we get to the second round after that performance you go say, but look who he score them against.
If he score against Hingerlan and he loss you go say he throw way goals we coulda win with. If he score them goals and we win, you go want to know what he was doing against Paraguay.

Since he pick up the injury Stern is not the same player, but he learn how to make a living out ah making men forget he on the pitch. In a certain way you could say he perfect the playing dead to ketch cobo alive strategy. If Stern had the 'reputation'

But to say that Stern doh do nothing on the team except wait for pass you ha to eb a bloody liar. Against Slovenia in that same game everybody cussing him for, Stern pelt a blade on a man BEHIND the half line. Against Peru he do nuff defending. He's not the fittest player on the team but all you want him to do the work of fifty men.

Why the ASS alyou doh ask Shaka to take free kicks eh? Or Latas to defend?

You could say how d man doh LOOK like he doing nothing but when he scoring, where you does be? Form is temporary, Class is permanent. Until such time that any of we other options up front do something to suggest that they could even lace Stern boots, you can't be calling for him to bench.

Granted, I woulda like to see two of the other strikers up front in the slovenia game just for them to get some practice, and to rest Stern but from there to go and say that number 14 is the worst thing in tugs...you have to be a ingrate!

Stern come home when the starboy didn't want to hear anything about trinidad. Dat is the thanks alyuh give him? I now understand where Stephen Ames and Vidia NAipaul coming from

Midknight this is one of the best posts i've seen in a while...

alot of men does forget about the rest of Stern game...
I think he is actually one of our better passers of the ball, his ball control is very good...
I remeber in d hex men was calling for him 2 get drop for the guatemala game, and i couldn't understand why, just a few games b4 he scored and set up a goal ( against panama in HC stadium ).. buh men wanted to drop him..
the last goal Cornell Glen score for trinidad in the goal cup, yes, was set up by Angus Eve, but it was Stern pass from the center that realease Angus into space on the right to put in d cross...

Stern played a solid overall game in the second leg against Bahrain, actually distiributing the ball from the middle, in fact Yorke and Latapy did alot more wasteful things dan Stern in dat game...

Now as for d Slovenia game, i am yet to see it in entirety, but Stern should not have missed those chances.. buh consider this, if a player is not in a postion to score how will he score, THE FACT THAT HE FOUND HIMSELF IN DANGEROUS POSITIONS TO RECEIVE THE BALL AND SCORE IS AN ENCOURAGING SIGN... however he still has to finish and despite his misgiving wednesday he is still the best finsher on our team in my eyes..

peace

now for all d ppl who say kenweyne jones not getting a fair chance... let's look at his club record...
he played in the same division as stern last season, started the season with a settled place with his team unlike Stern, overall PLAYED MORE GAMES THAN STERN AND SCORED LEST THAN HALF THE GOALS STERN SCORED IN THE SEASON [bTRUE OR FALSE?][/b]
SHOULD WE START HIM OVER STERN????

now, as for all d peopl who say Stern dont do shit... in the Peru game, Latas throw away in d first mintue, who set him up, I GUESS IT WASN'T STERN JOHN?

in the wales game latas curl a shot wide, who set him, I GUESS IT WASN'T STERN JOHN CUZ ALL HE DOES DO IS THROW AWAY RIGHT???'

Stern John is not the best player to watch, he may not seem to be the most hardworking striker on teh team buh he is head and shoulders the best easily...

Now he play shit 2day, i eh go lie, buh i eh see the whole game, it's easy to say we should play somebody else, buh when he's on his game he's the best, it's a friendly not the end of the world, the whole team looked lackluster fromw hat i saw, buh we created chances and at least he got into positions to take dem, tho he didn't, let's see if we could move on from here...

i hope he was jus trying a thing this game...

Arazi, if most of the ppl saying leave Stern, and a few say change his role, and even fewer say drop him...Wouldn't the hype be those in the majority ? That is why I was confused.

Jefferz, I thought I did get the point of your first post, which stated to me that I was pompous and if I have any ideas I shouldn't keep them to myself, and in your second post, you added I am stupid, and you say I attacked you when I tried to clarify what I understood.... without knowing me at all, without ever discussing any topic with me, you think I am arrogant, and stupid.....Ok, I get all that, what point did I miss ? Nah, doh answer that, it will be even more stupid of me to carry on this discussion ;D....My intention with my response to you in the first place was to sarcastically demonstrate, your bad manners and offensive tone, and obviously I messed up and managed to make you feel bad...I apolagize....all that is unnecessay... but better believe I would continue to discuss things that I may need help understanding or testing some ideas, even seemingly stupid ones...so please bear with me.......Ignorant, Stupid, buh pompous meh yute ?  :D :D

Palos, ah have to show the borse this new low ah sink too...lawd   :rotfl:

The majority of whom the knowlegable heads on this forum, talking to average not trini, unless i seem to attract them, i encounter the DROP STERN COMMITTEE very regularly and even after he score and everybody throw yday dey calling for him...

I am not convinced about Kenweyne Jones deserving a spot, not yet anyway, he still doesn't impress me as a striker, his speed makes him a nusiance buh he is hardly a finisher or fluent striker as yet and just cause he does "seem" more involved in game with his runs watever he doesn't have a big imapct in the game in my opinion.. i rather glen or scotland as the second dtirker with stern and if we play right the REAL stern will show up...
