Maybe you're right, Sam. If you check back 3 years, I stated that Tim-Kee getting into politics would be bad for football. However, is it possible that Tim-Kee is just plain useless?

As for the other comments, I think the 9.9 is paid already. Do you believe the girls would have drawn with Argentina if all they had was a handful of 16-0 victories in WoLF?

Big man yuh cyah be serious with that comment....  Like Sam say, playing 2 or 3 games in made up, hurry up tournament is preparation for the national team?  Wow....my goodness.... Then again, I guess you are saying it better than nothing.

I wrote them off we.... the team had been playing terribly.  Regardless of what anyone says, we winning because of the poor opposition we playing.  Guatemala was god awful in the first half against us and Cuba is quite frankly hopeless in this tournament.  Honestly, we in the right group.  Having said that, because of the expectations, Hart playing with house money now, therefore, it makes for some interesting tactical decisions.  How will we play against Mexico, fully knowing that we are in?  Winning the group is critical to getting to the semis so I'll be anxiously hoping for a positive result.

I actually feel bad for our players.  They are woefully under prepared.  It is so disappointing that at the international level we cannot make simple 10 yard passes.  Our standards have dropped drastically.  Although I will say, this is a very young team.

Very interesting observations from the young man.  I know that probably was a tough conversation to be had on camera but hey, at least he was honest.  Interesting that he thinks talent is not the issue but rather lack of preparation and experience in addition to the lack of togetherness as a group.

One some level I cannot fault Brent for taking the job as he gets his opportunity to "eat ah food".  Don't mamaguy me and tell me he can achieve much in the few months left because that ain't happening.  Perhaps because I live in the US, work for a government entity and specifically a politician, it is mind boggling to see how the PM selects her cabinet.  It is as if she doesn't vet anyone.  Yes Brent played professionally and was in management for some 2 or 3 years, yet, that qualifies him to be minister of sport?  Really?  Running a budget of several hundred million while managing a massive staff can be daunting subject for most yet still for someone with his relative inexperience?  I will never get it.  I wish him all the best but I think he just created some political suicide.  Hopefully the ones coming behind him will not hold this against him as he is taking a huge political risk considering the political climate in T&T.

I would like to recognise Joevin Jones for converting a crucial penalty yesterday to extend the sequence. Liked him at #4. Although I think any of the kickers at 2, 3 or 4 could be scrambled within that order, Molino for me preferably goes at #1 or #2.

I didn't have Hyland on my list of kickers. KJ? Yes.

I will be in the minority here but I disagree with this move on the players' part.  If you are going to boycott, do it before you show up.  Thinking of the whole football program, not playing in the final can have a devastating effect on our national teams as it could affect all of our programs.  Some would say it's greed (I wouldn't), some would stay strategy (I agree) but ultimately, if you playing football for T&T and don't understand the dynamics, you are joking.  Everyone's eyes are wide shut apparently. This is why all of our teams will continually suffer.  Playing for your country is not about money, it is about pride.  Not saying you shouldn't get paid, everyone should, but if you are truly looking for money, play for yuh damn club and don't come.  We will always be in a cat and mouse game.  While I don't support the current administration, in reality the TTFA is a microcosm of our society in that all we do is depend on the gov't.   

That is all well and good. Seems reasonable, but we are not dealing with reasonable people. We are dealing with probably the most corrupt govt ever! They can find millions for friends and family but for the people who actually put the country on the map, they must wait.
This is not new. This has been happening under previous admins. The situation really is worse now because corruption is shooting through the roof and the present admin carries on and don't give a damn as long as friends and family can full their pockets.
Unless we get a govt that truly understands the importance of sport in marketing a country this will always happen. These idiots really believe that it all about them. Just ask the two-landrovers man. Before he came into govt he was a crusader for integrity in govt. Now he is in govt integrity be damned, unless of course, it will paralyze or destroy his opposition.
Thank God we don't live forever.

You have a typical Trinidadian mentality...gov't, gov't, gov't..... Everybody looking for a handout.   Quite frankly to me it is sickening.  There is a marked difference.  Playing for one's country is not a madate, we not in China or Russia.  You get called, you can choose to come or not.  I understand, in some circumstances you can be banned by your local association which affects your club career but these lads are into it for themselves.  I am not saying they are greedy (they are owed the money), however, you really think they care about the women's team and the youth teams and trinidad in general.... please....  I am not disagreeing with their boycott, I feel the timing is poor.  Again, some would say it is right because they have the upper hand but that's the way we work in trini.  We don't like how the gov't work, so we burn tires.  Small minded stuff man.  I will never defend the TTFA but in reality they have no resources other that gov't handouts and FIFA.  How we get out of that rut, I don't know.

If we have a schools league, there must be an academic component tied to it.  Currently, there is very little or none in some cases.  Kids are very impressionable and will do what "they" feel is best for them.  Sadly, adults get caught up in the excitement as well.  Most people don't think objectively and will simply follow the masses.  This league needs a total revamping.  I love the idea of the Premier League division but how does one stop all of the transferring nonsense that permeated the issue with Sando Tech to begin with.  i.e. Woo Ling leaving Fatima to go to St. Anthony's?  Not blaming the kid but that undermines the integrity of the league in my opinion....  Soon you will have a top 4 and everybody else scraping just to stay up.

Will I do understand there are schools and ''schools''. I prefer to say there is education full-stop. D1 D2 whatever the division, state, country because my scholarship was to a Brazilian University. Young players in Trinidad don't have the comfort of turning pro at 18. They can but salaries and development would be limited.  Clubs have on numerous occasions brought foreign coaches from all sorts of top clubs in the world but have we seen any player go onto said clubs in the last 15 years?. I agree there are hardships but i choose to look at the reality and go with stats, the number of players heading to these schools and completing 4 years and leaving with a degree, enjoying 4 more years of football and coming back with positive life experiences is way higher than those that don't adapt well or are unsuccessful (yes other factors do play a part) But this is the most successful option.

  I don't disagree with you in totality but you have to look at it as whether the kid will be successful (whether academically or athletically).  It's not that simple but hey, I understand your perspective.

Yes, Amwood...  You couldn't have said it more appropriately.  There are schools and there are "schools".  Fortunately, my contacts are D1 only and I only sending men to people that I know would look after them.  You and I both know if you in the wrong situation it could go down hill pretty quickly.  I'd say my first year experience was tough but luckily I had a good mentor that I could lean on.  "Fit" is a massive issue.  Kids also need to understand that a scholarship is almost like a pro contract in that it is a business.  They need you and you need them.  It is renewable on a year to year basis, thus, this 4 year thing is not truly a reality.

Sometimes i feel we Trini's does forget or we just don't care,this is not the first time we end up with a situation like this,correct me if i'm wrong but i'm just trying to compare this with Marvin Lee,who took care of Marvin Lee,was the government involved,who were the Doctors,who took care of his treatment,where the money came from,who made contributions,where did he get damage,wasn't he an amdassador of T&T,was any cards sent to him etc etc etc

To be honest, I think Akeems situation and Marvin Lee's are totally different and should not be compared.  Marvin got injured "in the line of duty"....he was actually representing the country at the time he got hurt.  Whereas Akeem was actually being paid by his employer.  His employer did the right thing by him and should be commended for that.  Because Marvin was injured playing for the national team the responsibility fell on the laps of the TTFA in my opinion.

All that is well and good, but at pain of sounding 'cold'... the harsh reality is that Akeem went abroad for a professional opportunity.  Whilst in the pursuit of that opportunity he fell I'll under his employer's watch, and his employer properly took care of him as best they could.  You want the government to do what?  If you read the exchanges in context the statements in contention are that the government should have sent someone (at taxpayers expense) to go visit him, and that the government "abandoned" him.  How?  They couldn't do more for him than Ferencvaros was already doing.  Now could they have assisted the mother and brother while over there?  Perhaps... but that's a separate matter from the government paying for Akeem's treatment or sending an envoy to visit.  Nice if it happens, but certainly not damnable if not.

Personally, I think all gov't in trini is a waste of time, whether it be PNM, NAR, UNC, PP, whatever; they all stink and only for themselves.  That said, you are spot on Bakes.  Sometimes I wonder that trinis are too dependent on the gov't which is another story upon itself but in this case, I'm with you.  I also agree it would have been nice for the gov't to do something but it is not a requirement.  Who knows, perhaps they might pay for his funeral which would be a good gesture.  That said I cannot say it any better that you stated it.  We have to be very careful with the precedents that are set.  If you do it for one you better be ready to do it for all or you will be heavily criticized.

Absolutely... he relied on his assistant.

Certainly, he had to in this case.  For a ref to call that would be pretty bad... Brazil v Spain 82 or 86?  Either way, when a goal is scored the AR is supposed to sprint up the line... that signifies goal....

Yuh can't rely on the reaction of the players, none of them was on the line to see the position of the ball relative to the goal line.  Hard for me to be critical of the ref, unless I'm mistaken, he consulted his assistant who indicated that the ball had crossed the line.  Nobody who has commented yet, whether here or on FB has said anything with respect to the position of the assistant, all focus has been on the ref.

I had to go back to the original article and check:

...and while no appeals were seen from the Presentation College players for a goal as Attong seemed to be on his line, the referee took a look across to his assistant, who instead of awarding Attong a foul, judged the event as an own-goal.

Why were the St. Mary's players, coaches and now the fans so focused on the ref?  Anybody have reason to think the assistant was out of position? Or have evidence to show that he made the wrong call?  If not then is time to stop the noise and move on.

As for Brathwaite's article, I don't agree with everything he says, but I can't argue with his thesis that the break down in discipline and respect for authority that we seeing in society is starting to manifest itself on the sporting field as well, at least in this instance.  I fully agree with his call for a tough stance so that this is arrested early before it further takes root.

I imagine Stern was faced with a choice: Plead not guilty, when they can prove that technically you were and receive a criminal record or plead guilty and the case is closed with a warning. I imagine this is a typical plea bargain scenario?

Make sense that's why the judge says it could have been settled long ago.  However, why the police getting $500 again?  This has me perplexed...

I will say this as the last corner kick goal was particularly bad !! Where was the defender that should be on the post. Soccer-101 coaches.

This current U17squad is all local as is the 20's.

I guess you are assuming the coaches did want someone on the last post.  Not saying that you aren't correct because I coach the way you suggested but not all coaches do.

This team is not all local.  Amaya Ellis is a 14 year old from Chicago and we have two other girls from the US as well.

I think Coops is right here.  Boys/Girls soccer follow the same protocols in the US.  It's massive.  Our players are not playing against the same competition level that the US girls are playing.  Keep in mind, the US is all about scholarships for college and parents here see soccer as an avenue for their kids education to be paid.  Parents invest heavily in their kids' soccer preparation and participation.  Summer camps cost $500 US and some of these kids go to 4 and 5 camps over the summer. 

The money being spent on soccer in the US is insane.  Also the reason why the US is to good at soccer has to do with something called Title IX.  Title IX was instituted in the US in the '70s to allow for equal opportunities for boys and girls.  Because most colleges in the US have "american football" which equates to 80-90 scholarships, title IX says they have to have the same number of scholarships for women.  Thus, the advent of all these soccer programs with 15 scholarships.  To be honest, girls don't even have to be that great but they get a full ride. 

All this to say, our players don't have the resources to compete.

Coops, nobody expecting our girls to beat USA or Canada.

But the way they play.

This team just won the Caribbean Cup and the way they playing is depressing.

Same set of excuses we keep hearing from de men side and Stehpen Hart came in and the team was playing differently, how, how !!!!!!

I think this is more of an indictment on the level of play in the Caribbean.  Keep in mind our sweeper is only 14 years old....  Invaluable experience for her and the rest of the team.  I eh making no excuses but let us not forgot the US will be the favorites to win the Youth World Cup.
