His scolarship will be different from our footballers because he is a US citizen also ,Have you seen his scolarship, then why think it is crap, have you tried calling the university officials to get thier side.  Do you know foreign athletes get a different scholarship to a US athlete.

Football / Aaron Maund
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:39:44 PM »
I have sit down and listen to many articles on this youngster switching allegiance , Some things really bother me , firstly I like to say I love to se how passionate some of our supporters on the forum as , my only hope is that they can show that patriotism when it counts , because a lot of these people who went on bashing the youngsters are not really patriotic supporters. So to hell with all those stupid comments about the boy switching allegiances.
Since when SELLOUT shaun fuentes became a reliable source of information as far back as i can remember he has always been biased towards the TTFF so how come the supportes of the forum all of a sudden have his back. When are we going to grow up and be a intelligent society.
I agree with Aaron for making the swithc so how do you guys know he is not using the USA to get experience and then after returning back to T&T setup. I being honest if i was ignored by the TTFF I would play for another country knowing fully well i can switch back for the country i love at senior level. So what you guys are saying is that you would rather give up on gaining experience to make you a better footballer.
So all the best to these young players play and grow , the choice is theirs , Can anyone remember when birchall complained about the ttff not staying in contact with him, for instance has the TTFF kept in contact with Andre Boucaud or monito them .
One thing i cant stand is hypocrites

Time will surely tell, I will let time speak for himself .By the way how much 200 did quow run , as i can remember only two and he won them comfortable , richard thompson first set of 200m was less promising than quow but yet you all have written him off . Human nature never cease to amaze me . Do you know Toppin PR is 21.39 yet still you are willing to put Toppin over Quow. But one good thing about the sport eventually this argument will be put to rest. People keep underestimating renny quow ,

Ato once again , I have to disagree with you . I think Mr Quow can do the 400 , 200 double with impressive time , plus he seems to have the hunger that a lot of our other athletes dont seem to have ,He has the fighting spirit to leave it all out on the track. It is amazing how far drive with talent can carry you. I think you will be shock at the times he can run in that event this year that is if his coaches choose to let him run the shorter distance . From his size who would of thought he could of run sub 45 400meters he is not the typical size for a 400m runner but yet still he amazes, So dont count him out.

Florida State's Pilar McShine and Susan Kuijken earn NCAA auto marks
15 February 2009 at 02:16 - 0 comments - link
The Florida State track and field program had a busy Valentine’s Day with groups competing at both the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas and the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington. The Seminoles were feeling the “love” as Florida State recorded two NCAA automatic qualifying times and eight NCAA provisional qualifying times between the two competitions.

“We got a lot of good things done today,” head coach Bob Braman, who was in Fayetteville, Arkansas, said. “Here at the Tyson, the men’s 200m was probably the highlight and our success in the distance events at the Husky Invitational caps it off as a pretty good day.”

Pilar McShine’s (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) personal-best 4:37.71 in the mile at the Husky Classic earned the junior NCAA automatic qualification. The time, which is the best time in the ACC this year, ranks second in school history behind Hannah England’s 4:35.30 set last season. Also earning NCAA automatic qualification is senior Susan Kuijken (Nijmegen, Netherlands) whose season-best time of 9:05.70 in the 3000m at the Husky Classic placed her first among all participants and ranks second in the ACC this season.

“Susan just didn’t feel right heading into the race and I want to give credit to her courage to go out and do the work,” assistant coach Karen Harvey, who was in Seattle with the Seminoles, said. “When you’re not feeling good, doing the work is really hard and she did a great job.”

Florida State took three of the top four spots in the men’s 200m at the Tyson Invitational with three NCAA provisional times. Reigning ACC Performer of the Week Charles Clark (Virginia Beach, Va.), whose ACC-leading 00:20.83 last week at the New Balance Invitational earned him NCAA automatic qualification, placed second with a time of 00:20.94. Sophomore Brandon Byram (Gallatin, Tenn.) and freshman Maurice Mitchell (Kansas City, Mo.) finished third (00.20.96) and fourth (00.20.97), respectively. Both were personal-bests and rank second and third in the ACC.

Other strong performances and NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Husky Classic include an ACC-leading and personal-best 7:57.62 in the 3000m for junior Daniel Roberts (Vicksburg, Mich.), sophomore Matt Leeder’s (Brookville, Ontario) 8:00.01 in the 3000m – a personal best time – and senior Steeve Gabart (Miami, Fla.), who ran a 14.07 in the 5000m, a mark that is not only a personal-best but also ranks first in the ACC this season. On the women’s side, senior Lydia Willemse (Forest, Ontario) also earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a personal-best time of 9.25.99 in the 3000m.

“Daniel (Roberts) was just a stud today,” Coach Harvey said. “He placed second in his heat and just missed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark. It was a big race for him.”

Upon learning of Gabart’s success, Coach Braman said, “We are so excited for that. We knew he was ready but that mark was a bit unexpected. What a great performance for Steeve.”

Senior Tim Reen (Jupiter, Fla.) recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a personal-best 2.14 (7-00.25) in the high jump which placed him first among competitors at the Tyson Invitational. Both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams were just off the NCAA provisional qualifying marks but are among the fastest marks in the ACC.

The Seminoles will compete at the ACC Indoor Championship in Blacksburg, Va., February 26-28th.

“It was mission-accomplished to get ready for next weekend,” Braman said about this weekend’s competition. “We are where we want to be heading into the ACC championships.”

What about Track & Field / A New pilot project
« on: February 09, 2009, 09:02:07 AM »
I was contacted by an Individual by the name of Anthony Charles who in conjunction with the University of Trinidad and Tobago has started this new type of training for athletes , It suppose to increase times and conditioning of athletes . I found thier proposal quite interesting , Ato I am forwarding this information to you , to let me know if it might or actually work and secondly if the nutrients supplements they used is all legal. But if it is legal I am thinking of trying to get athletes such as Jacey Harper , Kevon Pierre etc , and monitor them and see if they get any improvements in their times , I also think Fana might be a suitable canidate . Tell me what you think. It is actually using Karate techniques to improve the athletes

I still think that Ato is correct , I believe that Kelly ann will be the best in the world . Better than Kerron Stewart and Fraser . Time will prove this to be true . Remeber how much racing she did last year . She is not a machine she would run out of steam . Judge her progress ny this year performances where she does not have lsu to run her to the ground

He is the best cricketer I ever see play , his class is so superb , his stroke play is maginifcent , his strike rate is out of this world . But his best asset is his consistency , he has proven to be the most consistent batsman in west indies cricket . Who cares for Brian Lara when you have the majestic X factor . I would like to commend the selectors the coach and the captain , who none of this brilliance would be shown if it was not for their wise decision.

Why is it that somebody should haveto take him by gunpoint . He for himself should want to be the best , it can not be forced upon him , It is either he has the heart or the will to be the best , It makes no sense in standing over them with a big stick . A true champion you will not have to that , that is what seperate a champion fromthe rest , they always have the drive to work harder , to train harder just to make sure they are the best. Talent may get you there but heart is what will carry you the extra mile.

What I don't seem to understand why our athletes are do afraid to run the 200m or 400m , My whole take on it is what do they have to lose if they think the opinions of others are wrong what would they lose by doing a lot of 200 meter running . If it has nothing for them to lose then it can only be a gain if they try it , but something that seems so logical and common sense is the most difficult to understand . My take to Marc is what do you have to lose if there is a chance that it would make you into a better athlete then why not try it or is it that you are comfortable at where you are at . Where is the drive to be the best, that is why I like Callender for he is wiling to put his body through whatever to turn himself into the best .Where has that fire gone from our more experience athletes

Who do you guys think will make the most improvement for this year . My money is on Emmanuel Callendar , hearing him speak , you can see he has the heart and the drive and the discipline to succeed . Plus when you make those sort of sacrifices to follow your dream usually positive thing follows. I think that he will cause the biggest shocker this year . Bledman has potential but I don't know if he has that burning drive. Brown I don't know if he will have his first injury free year since 2003 . Burns I don't know which one will show up this year as he has not been consistent . Richard first year as a professional , don't know how will react to the change in environment

So if you were in charge of Marc Burns would you have made him change hid running style like he did or you would of just work on his starts to perfect it . I remember earlier in his career he was one of our best or fastest starters until he false started in the Olympics and since then it has been all down hill with his starts , He was also our fastest relay starter , I remember him beating out Jon Drummond in the first leg who is probably the best starter in history. I find that Marc has become timid to the gun and has gone from being a good starter to most often a bad starter , What caused that change.

I have not heard anything about her for the year as yet but I do expect great things from thsis young athlete. I know she was injured nut I think that the NAAA missed out on something by not carrying her along with the team to the olympics because I think that experience of just being there would of caused her to work even harder

« on: February 03, 2009, 05:43:50 PM »
This message is geared to the NAAA,In a age of so much computer technology why is it that when we go to National Trials the level at which it is used is a embarrassment to the whole country. It is time for you all to get tour act together to get things started. To get results such as time and wind to properly assess an athlete performance is null and void you have to wait till the results is announced over the pa system or wait the next day to get the time. Imagine I can sit down at Trinidad trials go on my laptop and get results from Jamaica nationals. Is it so costly to get Hy-Tech Real Time Results to cover our national championships . Is it asking much to flash the times and placing on the Scoreboard in the stadium for those who don't have laptops.
I could remember the time Ato Jump the gun at National Championship to beat Marc Burns and Darrel Brown. I know he is going to deny it , I remember seeing him take advantage of the lack of technology available . He sat there timing the starter whole afternoon , I had no clue he was actually doing that i just found it strange . But as the race began I realise that he used his knowledge and not his speed to beat his younger opponents , I was unsure if to praise you or feel ashamed at your tactics . But again this is just my opinion I can be wrong , So Ato can you please clear the air , if the technology was in place , that would of been a false start?

Ato seeing that you have the new stadia , how about taking fana ashby under your wings and carrying her back at where she used to be, I think the faster will be the better because after kelly she is the best we have at this level when she is at her best. I know it might involve you spending a lot of your money to make it happen but the benefits to the sport would be fantastic.

What about Track & Field / Young athletes
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:54:09 AM »
Are coaches killing young athletes by making them specialise on one event so early in their career , As most athletes prefer the glamour event as the 100m , we seem to have a lot of athletes entered in these races and if they not making it they just quit. Not really knowing that they could of been a good 400m or a hurdler or 800m or 1500m . Instead of athletes finding out what distance or race they are good at they just go after the glamour events never really giving the others a try . What you guys think.

Football / Re: Fenwick against Jones' Sunderland decision, Hislop agrees.
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:45:50 AM »
I think that Fenwick is correct , it has me wondering about the others , watching the two sides I think tottenham has better wingers and better midfielders than sunderland , bale lennon ,dos santos , then you have mordric , creative midfielders to open up more chances for him. If he is doing well with this lack of service , i will like to see him when he is getting real service, I think he miss the boat he should of gone to either aston villa or tottenham because their wingers would of brought out the besst in him just like as how beckham and giggs brought out the best in yorke. This is better done earlier than later.

Breaking news...Frater moves up to the quarter.

Jamaican sprint sensation Michael Frater yesterday told the Observer in an exclusive interview that he is ready to step up to the quarter and cause quite a stir.
Frater who is famous for changing three gears in two strides on the backstretch of relays shall be sorely missed.
I asked him if there is any chance that he can reconsider this decision and he firmly replied NO!
Before walking out of the Observer's main office in Kingston, Frater turned around slowly, pointed his finger in my face and said in a low growl, "Tell that one Pookie and Labrawn Sperritt that I am coming to take over".
He then just vanished into thin air.
