nah fellas ease up on SOL.....the bigger challenge is not to win the title but to try and not to win the wooden spoon....clearly the amn is making a decision to end his career in the priemiership ...loks like we see the last of his career here at pompey

Pompey is overseas, it is on an Island.

this is the first major signing of several over the coming weeks. We have money and Arry will get us decent enough players to start challenging for a euro spot. When the next England squad is announced, we could have three players in teh squad, Johnson, James and Campbell.

A neutral would probably say sport and politics shouldn't mix...

indeed it shouldn't, but it nearly always does.

Celtic v Rangers and Roma v Lazio as simple examples.

why were the German police "Shocked" at the England fans for singing about the war? it's something that always happens when ever we play Germany "Two world wars and one world cup". We conveniently forget the fact that they have won the world cup more than us and beaten us pretty consistently since, but lets not let facts get in the way eh?

We also sing "If it wasn't for the English you'd be krauts" to the Dutch and "what's it like to lose a war to the Argies".

I've never really thought about the pros and cons of it before, but I would be interested to hear the thoughts of a "Neutral".

Actually, it's £48 plus a £2 booking fee to get into the Bridge.

£50 to watch a game of football, outrageous.

Not enough Englishmen, with the exception of Arsenal, I strongly believe that a core of good English talent is the key.

I'm not suggesting English players are better, but I do believe that english players want to win the English league more than overseas players. If you look at the treble winning side, it had a core of young English players who came up through the youth system together and would sweat blood for each other. This, along with the passion and drive of Roy Keane gave them this belief that, even if they were 2-0 down with 5 minutes to go, they could still win.

Man U have still got a very strong side, but they seem to miss some passion, Something that Mourinho has developed in the Chelsea team.

There was a spate of books last year written by "Ex-Holligans". the one that springs to mind was Rolling with the 6:57, because it was about the Portsmouth hooligan element.

Portsmouth has had more then their fair share of hooligans in the past and to an extent we still have them. After the derby with Southampton at Fratton Park in 2004 there was a riot after the game and something like 100 arrests were made.

The ages of thise arested varied, but the alarming thing, is that kids as young as 12 were given banning orders. Mainly for things like throwing bricks at police. In the Police report afterwards, it mentioned how most of these kids were being encouraged by older, middle aged people who should have known better.

Thankfully there has been no repeat of this since, but I still see youngsters who would like to copy their forebears and start up their own "Crew".

I didn't see the programme, but there is a lot of talk about it on the boards.

I find it a shame in to ways. It's a shame that these idiots still exist. I blame the welfare system, it means that people like this are able to breed, if we took away their welfare they wouldn't have kids and future generations would be protected.

It's also a shame that a TV crew are so desperate to create a documentary they need to give these idiots publicity, still, a documentray about the 350,000 fans who behaved themselves and had a good time would be boring.

True boy, I saw they had lil 8 and 10 year olds singing their yob songs and joining in the cursing and ting. They are bringing up yet another generation of hooligans.

But one thing though. These hooligans seem to come from the lowest reachest of middle england. They are obviously either uneducated, or barely so. So their job prospectscannot be that good. Not to mention that the places where these people come from are usually the lowest paying regions in the UK.

So how come they could afford to go abroad, and fight and get on bad, EVERY time england playing abroad? Where are they getting the money from? They don't seem to be the type to save religiously waiting to travel every two years.

that's kind of my point. Take away their welfare and they can neither breed or travel.

(For the record, I am not a right wing biggot, I appreciate some people genuinely need welfare, but that should be to survive, not to travel europe causing trouble)

8 point deduction for bribery and corruption. Hardly a punishment is it?

mind you, to us bribery and corruption is something we detest, to football's governing bodies, it is part of every day life.

Irish lasses tend to go for the Celtic symbol on the base of the back, although my partner has a small devil on hers, a bit too much like a Man United for my liking ::)

Leprechauns on shoulders are popular as well, which is why I've got an English Rose on mine :D

I can't see what the problem is. Man United have been accused of being in a crisis for the last ten years and they always come up trumps.

Remember Alan Hansen's comments "You can't win anything with kids", well they did, in fact they won the treble so I would not write them off yet.

Fergie knows what he is doing and I fully expect them to be there or there abouts come the end of the season.

For pretty much every player, you will get those who love them and those who thik they couldn;t kick their way out of a wet paper bag.

Saints fans are still under the impression they are a premiership side and seem to forget they are in the championship. They are used to watching Alan Shearer, Matt Le Tissier and James Beattie playing for them, so they may be a bit harsh.

Also, They think Ricardo Fuller is good, so it shows how little they actually know about football in the forst place.

Oh yeah, they are scummers as well  ;D

pompey,

how do the english fans feel about their clubs being bought by foreigners e.g. chelsea, portsmouth, manu, fulham, cardiff? i'll leave hearts out of this as they're scottish.

Portsmouth has been owned by a "Foreigner" for several years. Our outgoing owner, Milan Mandaric is a Serbian/American (Interesting rags to riches story actually).

Generally speaking, if a foreign owner is prepared to stump up the money and has the same passion for the club as the fans, then no one cares too much. It's not that different to foreign players really.

Doug Ellis at Villa and Freddy Shepherd at Newcastle are not too popular with the fans and they are both English.

The Herts chairman is something else. I think he thinks he is playing a game of championship manager, with a slightly smaller budget!

Why not ask these guys? this lot watch him week in week out. They have a forum called banter central (Which is full of kids at the moment becuase the schools are on holiday) where they invite posts from other fans, they get a bit touchy about their main discussion site.

I warn you though, you may have to wash after visiting this site ;D

Nicholas Anelka is a problem child and Sylvain Distin is shit so dont count Europe yet. Harry Rednapp is a relagation manager he's good at getting teams out of relagation and promoted from Championship League, have he ever finished half way on the Premiership table before.

Quote
During his seven years in charge Redknapp took West Ham to their best ever Premiership finish of fifth in 1999. Redknapp proved his man management skills that season by getting the best out of the temperamental though highly talented Italian forward, Paolo Di Canio.

Looks like Pompey are going all Latin American this season. We had an Argentinian trialist in our friendly on Saturday, his name is reported to be Emiliano Cerda who, I believe, plays for Boca Juniors. We are also in the hunt for Luis Jominez, the Chilean international.

Cerda looked very very good, although it was against lower league opposition. If we can secure this guy, along with Sylvain Distin from Man City and Nicholas Anelka, then Europe here we come!!

teh fellas is a capable youngster.....however i have yet to seen a argentine flourish in this league....only a few from teh national team come to mind *+(of course there are more)

Veron..bounced around at two clubs n admitedly didnt like ti so went back to italy
Crespo-Likewise as veron didnt like ti WANTS OUT
SCaloni-shoking he mad the world cup team but then agian pekermandid make him who he is so no real surprise..however eh only exceled in spain at deportivo./..he seems to constantly get caught out or allow the man behind him to get in easy goals (west ham)
Heinze-Only real one to find his form and such ....

so all you can really do is watch and see

You missed Andres D'Alessandro off your list. Probably the most skillful player I have seen in a pompey shirt. It was only 5 months, but he was amazing.

He has now gone to spain though as we couldn;t agree personal terms, so maybe that backs up what you say about them getting home sick

liverpudlina co-worker's response:

Funny! A  British Airways pilot was recently reprimanded & suspended by BA for saying to his passengers (over the PA System) ..”We’re now flying over Liverpool so I suggest you hang-on to your wallets…!” (true story)…

Livepool is generally considered (Usually unfairly) as being the crime capital of England. Most Liverpudlians get their leg pulled over it and take it in good humour (Which is how I meant it).

A A what going on there boy, all of a sudden they start teifing EPL stuff. More interesting they caught them already!

one of the joys of living in Liverpool.

Primary education in Liverpool consists of reading, Writing and hot wiring cars. When they reach the age of 12, they move onto to secondary education, which includes disarming burglar alarms and sawing off the ends of shotguns.

Safe cracking is usually reserved for University students.

Pompey are in the process of signing Juan Manuel Vargas Risco, a 22 year old Peruvian left back. He currently plays for Colon De Santa Fe in Argentina.

Does anyone know anything about him? checked all the usual placed, Wikipedia etc and he sounds pretty useful.

If the players are good enough, the big clubs will find them.

Remember, it is in the agents best interests to get them a big deal, they get a percentage.
