Ok.. So where the letters of inquiry to past ttfa special advisers, who they could actually have gotten something from..or millien and he delivery person, who they can actually get something from.. No, give lawyers some money, and get nothing, well it's a start..and we have time and money to make/prove a point..uh huh, right ? As Sancho & Harrison say, nothing coming of it..
Except, we like to see bacchanal and we on the winning bacchanalist side..every time

How do you know Milien was even involved in any money exchange? It's like allyuh dense or being deliberately obtuse. Atiba Charles is the man who last have the money which is why any inquiries should start with him.in both instances involving Jack and Charles government money was involved and so files have been turned over to the DPP.all of this has been explained time and time again yet here you are coming with this talk again. Keep the focus where it properly is on Sancho and Harrison.

Watched the entire thing in about 4 days.  Excellent series, contract signed for production on Season 2... can't wait.

*cough*

And theres the problem I have always had with Jack. He can do so much good, and does do great work, but then theres the sleazy side. Perhaps Jack was mistaken? But how many times can he be wrongly accused. It doesn't make any sense how he can get caught up in so many scandals.

There was a hearing held following a discovery motion by the defense, apparently they argued that the prosecution failed to turn over exculpatory information.  The judge granted a three-week continuance, but the fact that it's marked "FINAL continuance" suggests that while there was merit to the defense's complaint, whatever they complained about wasn't that materially important to warrant anything more than a three-week delay.

I got wind of this yesterday and say "lemme just hold off and watch de ride."  As I said, despite all de gun talk from Sanko and dem, it will be a while before the two of them have anything to do with football again.  This part here is particularly rich:

"'(The players) don’t want Sancho and Harrison back for the reasons that they are unscrupulous and dishonest,' a Central source told Wired868, on the condition of anonymity. 'We are hearing that even potential sponsors are concerned about them being involved with the club. The players definitely want no part of them.'"

The irony.

Ever notice that when the UNC want to really dig into Rowley and the PNM they use a certain type of surrogate to carry out the attack? What does Jack Warner, Vernella Toppin, Rodney Charles and Marcia Braveboy all have in common? They are all...

Damn Ugly

The ethnicity of the attack dog seems pointed too... either to preempt cries of racism, or to rub salt in the wound by the ironic use.

1.    Senator Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture and Land Resources

Haven't always agreed with everything he wrote, but I found his columns to be intelligent, on point... and above all else very fair.  Never had an inkling that he was pro-PNM until his candidacy was leaked on Facebook.  He a very smart fella who gave up a lucrative career in Canada to come back home and heed the call of service in his native Mayaro community.

6.    MP Nicole Olivierre, Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs

What's the scoop on her... anybody know?  Energy is a very important portfolio and we need somebody with vision running this.  I know Kevin Ramnarine from primary school days, we ere in class together up until Common Entrants when it was discovered he was too young to sit with us... his mother taught both of us.  On the strength of that I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but while there's nothing I could really blame him for, I don't see anything I could credit him for either.  5 years went by with nary a public comment... not what we need when energy production is our main natural resource.

7.    MP Colm Imbert, Minister of Finance

As an individual, this man has the personality of the south end of a horse facing north.  Thin-skinned and crotchety for no reason, the polar opposite of the temperance one should exhibit when in public office.  That being said, he too is a smart fella and I believe that his actual service in public office has been commendable.  Now as for what ca a civil engineer could bring to the portfolio of finance... that is anyone's guess.

17.  MP Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs

What part of a football this man ever see?  Kidding, not the most important portfolio, but one which enjoys a high profile.  He has quite a task at hand in dealing with all the various sporting bodies, not the least of which being the TTFA.  Hopefully the two bodies can now find a way to mutually seek the best interest of local football.

18.  MP Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Tourism

Rising f**king star!  Nuff said.

19.    Senator Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry

Supposedly she son plays soccer for Princeton... ent figure out who yet, though.  Great school, good program.

162

in t&t definitely. outside of t&t is something else.

In football period.  Any discipline handed down would be pursuant to authority granted the TTFA by FIFA.  Any appeal from TTFA discipline would first be heard by FIFA's Dispute Resolution Committee, and appeals from there would go before CAS.  So obviously if upheld, the sanctions would be globally enforced.

bakes boy, I does jus let dem make dey assumptions, I remember when manning was doin he crap I used to speak, much to d glee of certain members on here, gov't change and shit start almost from day one, and d more yuh talk is d more dem get vex, man didn' vex a mere two months before when manning was in d hot seat......all of a sudden shit wasn't shit no more..... was who doh like indian and all kinda nonsense........ remember warmonga

Of the more prominent members, it had people like Brownsugar, Weary, Omardinho, daryn, dcs, warmonga... etc.  A 'whole set' of posters supported the PP if they didn't in fact go out and vote for them.  Brownsugar and Weary ahve seen the error of their ways and most of the others have fallen silent so that's why it might seem "one-sided" now.  People might be die-hards but on this forum they not so unreasonable as to dismiss opposing political views out-of-hand.

164
Not sure what you're referring to. If I did, then that's unfortunate and not intended. I'll say I've made every effort to be as neutral as possible.

And I'm looking for no sympathy - frankly I just want a space where I can talk about non-partisan T&T politics and issues.

Fair enough :beermug:

That's exactly what I'm talking about though. The way Kamla was overwhelmingly voted in, despite signs that history was going to repeat itself (given that the party had many of the same suspects that got voted out when the UNC was in power prior, and that Jack was the big financier).

There were many new players as well, namely COP, MSJ etc.  Enough as to lend legitimacy to the old UNC cabal.  I don't think it was unreasonable for many (among whose number I am not to be counted) to be convinced to give the old UNC, purged of characters deemed the most toxic (such as Bas, Ramesh, Brian Kei Teung, Carlos John etc.) a chance.  Particularly so in face of what many perceived to be Manning's increasing instability.

Quote
The most common complaints against the PNM were Manning's dictatorial style (particularly after sidelining Rowley) and the Calder Hart and Spiritual Advisor (the Pena woman) imbroglio.

What I've specifically tried to argue here is that you can draw parallels between this and Kamla's issue today. Manning's dictatorial style has similarities with Kamla's lack of control tendencies. I think they approached it from the opposite ends of the spectrum - that is, Manning exerted too much control and micro-managed his cabinet while Kamla seemed to let her cabinet run amok. The big difference is somehow Kamla maintained her individual favourability (based on favourability numbers compared to how Manning brought his entire party down), but both did it to the detriment of the government/country.

I suspect that the reality is that Kamla was always a figurehead, and distancing her from the 'micro-management' ("I knows nothing... I will seek advice and respond...") and resulting scandals was a deliberate ploy so as to maintain that favorability you reference.  I think there was convenient playing up of her gender and 'grandmotherly qualities' to both promote/sustain favorability, as well as to blunt criticism.  I'm not sure what parallels meaningfully can be drawn between the two administrations, other than by the end of each the electorate had had enough.

Calder Hart was a major corruption scandal, and Rowley himself did a lot to disclose the billions of dollars in gross mismanagement that happened as part of the variety of UDECOTT projects. Again, comparable perhaps to Lifesport, Highway corruption, and other PP corrupt events but warrants comparing the dollar amounts/something to figure out which was the "worst".

I think your efforts to 'quantify' dollar-to-dollar amounts are misguided.  With all due respect I don't think anyone is interested in some scientific (economic) determination of which political administration has actually won this particular race to the bottom.  Even if your economic tally were to indicate otherwise, the sheer scope of the financial scandals (included in which the OPV contract cancellation would have to count), the favors repaid out of the national treasury, and at times repaid with in-kind favors which served to undercut the nations best interest (naked manipulation of the legal process to frustrate efforts to extradite Steve and Ish, for example).

There have been other scandals before, such as the millions stolen by John and Kei Tung under the UNC government, John O'Halloran during the Williams/Chambers administration (or "regime" as we're inclined to call it in TnT)... but compared to the government contracts doled out to security companies while Jack was Min. of Works and Transportation... and later National Security (what a disgusting joke that was)... the contract to build a highway to nowhere, with no real benefit other than seemingly in repayment of political favors... I don't know how there could even be an argument against the notion that the PP in just one electoral cycle, not even over successive terms, has been rank out of control.

The Manning/Pena issues draw similarities to Kamla's drunk and infidelity accusations.

Quote
There was nothing even remotely similar to the complaints about gross mismanagement and outright theft you're hearing these days about the PP.

This is where I'm not sold, because everytime statements like this are made, there aren't attempts to quantify it. I'm not trying to downplay PP corruption, but I think people are understating the mismanagement of prior scandals (including Manning's UDECOTT, the Piarco airport, and others that preceded). It's easy to make an absolute statement that "xyz government is the most corrupt" and then cite specific corruption scandals as anecdotal evidence. But to do so without at least trying to compare them on some kind of comparable metric (like $$ stolen) isn't leaving much room for discussion.

Most people on this forum aren't interested in long winded dissertations... I probably come closest and honestly I'm tired of them because for the most part they are a collective wasted effort.  What you want is some kind of Afra Raymond-esque exposition that you simply won't find in a forum better suited small (but serious) talk and picong.  We tend to touch on, rather than dissect and explore issues... with very little exception.  This isn't a knock on the forum, just a statement of fact as I see it.   Again, there are a few who try to engage on a deeper level of discussion, but those remain in the minority.

Incidentally, the Piarco airport situation arose under the Panday-led UNC government, if memory serves correct.  It's the only way the connection to UNC financiers, Ish Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson would make any sense.  Not only that, but you seem to either discount, or otherwise be unfamiliar with the sheer scope of the financial packages given to PP financiers such as SIS, who reportedly went from bankruptcy in 2010, to securing over $2 billion dollars in public contracts in the short five years the PP was in power.  This on top of the company illegally seizing public lands in Caroni and filling it in, illegal quarrying in the Northern and Central range, millions of dollars in contracts to other construction companies with PP ties... over a million dollars in contracts for Anika Gumbs' shell landscaping company, millions thrown away in "Hoop For Life", $400 million lost in LifeSport... with Anil supposedly now living as a millionaire in South Africa... my head is spinning even trying to "quantify" all of these suspect contract/transactions.  You want people to sit down online and go thru line by line and make a comparison between these crooks and other historical administrations?  Good luck with that

165
People saying Sancho actually make RTK look good.  I wonder if any of them have considered the possibility that all along Sancho may have deliberately been trying to make him and the TTFA look bad.  Now that his true colors are being revealed I can't dismiss that notion not even for a moment.

Without a doubt.  I'm not sure of while he was at Central, but once he became MoS he was aligned behind the scenes with some inside the very TTFA itself, who conspired to leak information to the press that sought to present (and in some cases misrepresent) Tim Kee's administration in a negative light.  I liked and supported Sancho all thru his playing days and thru the dispute over the bonus. All of that started to change about two years ago when I found some of his public comments intemperate and unnecessarily adversarial to the TTFA, and personal towards Tim Kee himself.  Not that I hold any brief for Tim Kee, but that was hardly the road to take if you're serious about resolving the dispute in a manner conducive to the best interest of local football.  Engendering that kind of scorched-Earth, and in instances, highly personal campaign against the FA was never going to be in anyone's best interest.  I still wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, and to an extent I still believe he wanted to do the right thing as MoS, but somewhere along the line I think the personal animosity was too much for him to step back and treat the FA with any kind of objectivity.

p.s. as I've mentioned on this board before, I'm good friends with one of his sisters... I'm sure you know her too, she used to be on the periphary, but very much part of de 'mix' back in the day.

166
I'll be honest and say I haven't been reading the General Discussion much in my years in of visiting this site until recently. That said, based on my non-scientific impression of the 2015 election (and thumb in the sky math), I'd say of the majority of regular posters in that main thread were staunch PNM supporters (or staunch anti-PP, not sure of the difference) - there wasn't much room for neutral discussions without it quickly descending into absolute statements sans reasoning. Case in point, every time one tried to take things out of the context of the 2015 election (i.e. trying to be somewhat impartial, objective, and less hyperbolic), I was often accused of drinking UNC koolaid, being a PP apologist, or something to that extent immediately. Usually when rebuttals resort to ad hominem attacks and just painting broad stripes, you usually know you're dealing with a partisan audience.

I'd say though, between that rubbish, there was some underlying common sense in there as well. I think folks just get too caught up with the politics of the day to take a step back and objectively compare one government to others in years/decades prior - I bet if I looked back at 2010 you'd find something similar. Probably in a year or two things can be put into better perspective.

That said, it isn't too surprising considering this is a football forum, and we know that the die-hard following of our two major sports does also have an ethnic split in this country. I suspect the situation is probably reversed on another popular forum like Trinituner that probably has a reverse ethnic split due to the nature of that board.

This entire post is rife with asinine statements.  I also find it richly ironic that you are in here playing the victim talking about people denouncing you as drinking PP Kool-Aid when in fact you have been guilty of doing the very thing you complain of.  I remember in particular an exchange I had with you about two weeks or so ago when you accused me of being part of a biased PNM clique (wildly paraphrasing).  From that point on I wrote off any discourse with you as a waste of time.

And btw... there were a number of posters here who were adamantly against Manning (if not the PNM itself) and who voted for the Partnership, many who wanted to give COP specifically a chance, some who wanted to give Kamla a chance, and some who were in the "anybody but PNM" camp.  The most common refrain against the PNM were Manning's dictatorial style (particularly after sidelining Rowley) and the Calder Hart and Spiritual Advisor (the Pena woman) imbroglio.  There was nothing even remotely similar to the complaints about gross mismanagement and outright theft you're hearing these days about the PP.  This was true of the political climate in TnT generally, and of this forum specifically.  But of course you wouldn't know that, since by your own admission you seldom ventured here.  Ignorant of that context, your statement that this is "largely a one-sided board" seems particularly ridiculous, say nothing of being errant.

167
He is de mayor, he cant get a police report in over 9 months?

If Kamla did pregnant she woulda make baby by now.

Everything was turned over to the police since last year, including handwriting expert reports, not sure what else the TTFA could do.

Bless dey heart, the Guardian just can't get out ah dey own way.  Inconsistent references to the TTFF/TTFA (at times even in the same sentence) aside, there are no questions being raised about the deal between Levi Garcia and AZ Alkmar.  Questions are (properly) being raised about Central FC's prior attempt to sign the player when he was 16/17, by by-passing his parents and using his older brother to sign the contract.  I was willing to dismiss that as naivety on their part, but in light of everything else, there appears a clear pattern of just doing whatever it is they feel like doing, regulations, rules and scruples be damned.

The issue with the player bonus might be the only weak 'charge' in the list, as I'm not sure what the TTFA could really do about it, other than look into it and gather information.  But I'd have go back and take a closer look at the TTFA Constitution to see what powers they have regarding club oversight.  Arguably it's more of an issue for the Pro League.  The attempt to sign Levi Garcia without his parents' permission violates both TTFA and FIFA rules, and this very likely is a charge that will stick.

Aside from that, don't be fooled by all the gun talk from Sancho and Harrison, they both have an established pattern of shooting from the hip lip without much substance to back up their statements.  If they're legitimately not worried, then they should be.  Even if one wants to dismiss the CONCACAF money ending up in Sancho's bank account as an honest mistake (and with Central's support of them, it might be hard to argue otherwise), then the issue regarding the "personal payments" in conjunction with transfers is no mistake, no matter how Harrison want to try and spin it.  It doesn't take a genius to see what was going on here, and this is the kind of thing that got Harry Redknapp and Milan Mandaric arrested 10 years ago, and which derailed Sam Allardyce hopes of managing England.  If this is a 'witch hunt' then Sancho and Harrison have to be two of the biggest witches around.  Let them (pretend to) dismiss it all they want, I just hope they have their lawyer money and court clothes handy, because it will be a while before either of them have anything to do with football again.

Lasana let fly a question regarding his (Sancho's) plans now that his tenure was up ... in light of supposed TTFA interest in exploring irregularities related to the alleged transfer transactions. In sum, whether he would be returning to Central and local football. The response from BS was that nothing had impacted his involvement with football and that he would be re-engaging that arena as he had done prior to assuming office.

Ah missed a portion following this because ah was in a roti shop.

Nothing supposed about it... an official inquiry has begun with Sancho having been asked to respond to a number of items related to his football tenure, not just the "personal payment" related to the transfer.  His return to local football isn't as imminent as his bravado suggests.

yes the EBC has rejected their petition, but it's supposed to be before the court as we type and out of the EBC's hands. not saying that the court would side with them, but there's going to be a drawn out process no doubt because of the simple disposition of the former government.

The issue is serious enough that the court is obliged to address it, but unless the PP government could point to some procedural violation by the EBC (where they were supposed to notify them and did not), then they really don't have a leg to stand on.  Even if the court, in the unlikeliest of circumstances, agrees with them that there was a procedural violation, the court then would have to consider what redress is owed them.  If the PP can show that without a doubt they would have won had polls closed on time then maybe the court invalidates any ballot cast after 6 pm.  I don't know how they'd even be able to prove that, so overturning the results is extremely unlikely.

Yuh not hearing any talk about it on the national level because the argument has no legs.  The EBC has already responded, rejecting their petition out of hand.

The PP know they don't have any legal claims to have the EBC rule the election null and void. What they are now doing is rallying the belief in their masses that the election was stolen. It's all about propaganda.

I'll take it one step further... what they are doing is deflecting blame for them losing the election.  Better to spin it as "they tief we" rather than offer it for what it is... "we f**k up and de people was fed up."

If the order was just a formality I don't think they would have gone thru the embarrassment of swearing in both Al-Rawi and Dillion once again outside the gaze of the cameras.
I think they did it again because there was a legal error based on our constitution that would have made their appointments invalid unless they were both sworn in again in the correct order after the PM was sworn in.

One thing I've learned not to do over the years is to argue the law with people who don't understand the law... and I don't mean that as an insult to you.  It simply means that we are not starting on common ground and if I explain the legal basis (as I've already done a couple times) for my opinion and somebody chooses to reject that and offer their own (witho and but supporting basis) then the discussion likely will bog down unnecessarily.  If you can find the basis for this "legal error" in the Constitution then by all means share it.

If the Constitution is silent (as it is here) then you look at the legislative history/intent.  That is satisfied by the swearing-in.  Trinidad is a country that despite our vaille-qui-vaille reputation, is very beholden to it's tradiitons and protocols in certain circles... hence why we held dear to the frigging powdered wigs, and why we still to this day hold dear to "Silk", the ceremonial sword in the Regiment and frigging khaki uniforms for police (among others) in a tropical climate.  Sometimes it's best to do or re-do things out of an abundance of caution, not because there is substance to the concerns, but rather just so that you give the chattering class and the detractors one less thing to talk about.

Football / Re: Who should the new PM name Minister of Sport?

It will be beneficial if the Minister of Sport is a former sportsperson.  Someone who has been at the highest level and seen how things operate first hand and knows what it takes to get to that level.  But it's not a necessity.  The Minister of Sport can draw upon such people for their input if he/she does not possess that achievement.

Fully agreed.  Far too often we seem content to just plug in a figurehead in the hopes of putting a familiar name in charge of something because they happened to be past sportsmen.  The model for that isn't broken, former athletes can make good administrators... Sebastian Coe is current head of the IAAF; Anita DeFrantz is a member of the IOC Executiv Committee; Franz Beckenbauer successfully led Germany's LOC during the 2006 WC... etc.  Ideally we can find someone with national prominence from the list of former athletes, who will also have facility with managing the bureaucratic process within the Ministry, have a facility with budget and planning, and who can serve as an effective manager as well.  The day to day task of running the Ministry can be managed by the Permanent Secretary and Ministerial staff, but there has to be vision, oversight and guidance from the Minister.  Lara seemingly checks many of those  boxes.

Bakes isn't that a legal technicality and all have to be re-sworn again? Seeing that the PM has to appoint the AG as a matter of protocol and in this instance the reverse has happened. I'm hoping that maybe Dr. Rowley was sworn in earlier and that was just pomp and circumstance.

Technically only Dillon's appointment was in jeopardy since he was sworn in without a government being in place.  Faris' was never in jeopardy, neither was Rowley's.  As I noted elsewhere, the Ministerial appointments could only take place on the advice of the PM, which implies that a PM must first be sworn in, then give the suggestion to the President.  We've always had PMs sworn in first, but never see them then making the suggestion to the President.  The implication is that the suggestion took place prior to the PMs swearing in.  No different than here.  The order is just a formality since the Constitution doesn't explicitly require it.

Minister  then out Brand new PM the man make a boo boo on our national stage .

As of now Kamlier is still our Pm until the PResident correct that swearing in bull shit that he did today.

I'm no fan of Carmona but I don't see how this was his fault, the fella in the uniform was the one calling the order.  Sure yuh could say Carmona should have known better (in his first Prime Ministerial swearing-in ceremony) but to put this on him seems a reach.
