Football / Re: The New Site
« on: February 07, 2006, 07:46:25 PM »
Thats a waggonist website, whether its good or bad.....

All these sites who come onboard after we qualify is waggonist. And we have a few posters here who will blend in go there, because all they waiting on is to jump on some man site as soon as its launch.

I am a sw.net fan for the rest of my life. Dont matter what happen in the future.

How can a site launch and use info from Flex site. How can you dis-credit a man's hard work to big up your self.
Allyuh and this bullshit 'waggonist' talk...like allyuh have de franchise on who is fan from who ent fan.  Allyuh need tuh kill that separatist mentality...dat divide and conquer shit went out same time massa day did.

Personally I wasn't feeling de new site when ah first peep it some weeks back... 'upon further review' however...I'm liking it.  I really like that there's an effort there to educate the masses on just what dis 'soca' thing is...and to provide info on TnT on the whole.  Kudos all arung.

I di'n check tuh see if there was a chat portal...but they need to put a tab on the site offering visitors a chance to chat about the team...and then have the linke direct visitors to socawarriors.net.  No need trying to compete with this site...just form ah partnership of sorts.

THE PFL will not cut it.  SOrry to say, but the J-League is safely above the standard.  This will keep Yorke in shape.  It's a pacy league, although I think the defending is a bit loose at times.
Prett fair assessment...even I was surprised at the quality of the league.

KND, for the second time, come off the drugs.  Adu not making no World Cup roster, and not coming off no bench.  It have too many other contenders that are ready to play.  Lets be real here.  Arena wanted to lock in Adu for the next campaign and cool off Ghana from the overtures they were making to Adu.  It was a message that he was sending to Adu:  he is the future.
Allyuh men not giving freddy and his people no kinda credit fuh they intelligence at all boy.  Freddy wasn't going to play fuh Ghana...not after working so hard to secure his US citizenship...and certainly not when there's millions of Nike dollars at stake.  Nike and the USSF isn't going to market some kid who represents some other country as the savior of US soccer.  That was no cynical move by Arena's part...Freddy was done 'locked' up long time, Ghana was only fooling they self.

Football / Re: No World Cup for Freddy - Adu sent back to D.C. United

I think that Adu needs to leave DC United -- the situation there is not really helping him develop as a player.  Why?  How many players are more gifted than him on the training ground?  They might be better options than him for the coach right now as starters, but more gifted?  None.  He needs to go to a top club and train, eat, and sleep around the world's best.  Only then will we really see what Freddy can do.

Agreed...which is why I fail to understand your "lacks ambition" comment.

Novak is handling himself very well.  It eh have no entitlement here.  Yuh train well yuh play.  If I don't think you fit for this game, yuh bench.  Freddy needs that tough love.  And Novak job is to win games, not nurture Freddy Adu for the US Soccer Federation.

Disagree...what you have with Novak, Adu and the MLS brainthrust is a classic case of battle of the wills...MLS execs want Freddy on the field, Novak insists that if it happens it will happen on his time.  DCU'td management want to appease the league, Freddy and the public while not contradicting it's coach.  How can you appease these disparate forces without undermining the coach and thereby sabotaging the team?  That's the conundrum...Novak may be right in that no one should dictate what goes on on the field but him...but he's a bullheaded guy who may not be the best thing for Freddy.

alyuh men crazy or what

Freddy is the only american player capable of dribbling effectively and comfortable kicking with either foot.

He will be on the world cup squad and will play off the bench.

They sent him back to DC so that he can prepare for the MLS season and get off to a good start.

KND it shock me to see you fall prey to media hype too.  the man is simply not as good as advertised, nit right now at least.  And what ta-ta yuh talking bout comfortable dribbling and kicking with either foot?  Adu is so left-footed it isn't funny (but then most left-footers are).  Also, Landon Donovan is very capable of doing that.  He is world class talent-wise, he just lacks ambition.

To say that he lacks ambition (this is a 16 year old child we talking about here) is not only presumptive...it borders on irresponsible.  In addition to which there's a difference between not being "as good as advertised" and being overhyped.  He suffers from the latter, not the former...and even so that's no fault of his, MLS needed a marketable face, and what better story to ride than that of a photogenic immigrant prodigy?

This is not a surprise at all... he fighting to start and make an impact on DC United and he got totally outclassed by other young players in the last Youth World Cup.

How could people possibly believe that he is good enough to make the US team right now?
Who tell you Freddy struggling to start on DC United?? Lol...whatever

Unfortunatel Freddy mouth got him in trouble with his coach Peter Novak...and he never really was able to get out the doghouse.  Look for Novak to end up coaching elsewhere and for Freddy to get more starts.  If yuh not starting fuh yuh club team (fuh whatever reason) it tough to make the National team...Freddy just caught in a catch-22.

« on: February 06, 2006, 09:30:47 PM »
I don't get this problem with people choosing to use one term rather than another. There are several names that are used in America that are not used elsewhere and it is  not a problem.

Soccer is an accepted alternate name for football, not an American creation, and since they have another sport that is generally known as football using soccer makes sense.

We use football, they use soccer. I don't see a problem.
I wonder if these idiots know how schupid and ignorant they sounding by crying dong de americans?  Some ah allyuh clowns ever stop tuh consider that the term was likely coined not by 'Americans' per se, but by expatriates from soccer-loving nations who needed a way to market our beloved sport while not confusing it with an already existing product ('American' football)?

Some ah allyuh would do well tuh shut allyuh ass and open allyuh minds instead...

I agree the people in the region doh like we but then again we doh like we. I will always remember my days on the Mona campus I learnt who were Trins when we wore red Nov 17th. So I was in JA for that infamous day in 1989.

Trinis doh like Trinis we haggling bout Chutney Soca Warriors. You think in J'ca they would have haggled about reggae or what ever it was its incarnation before.

Trins major problem is their lack of patriotism

I guess we can all only speak to our our experiences...as far as I can tell the West Indian communities in NY, DC and SoFla to a certain extent are fully behind the Warriors.  Large up to the Tartan Army and the good people of Scotland on the whole for their support of our boys.

it's about a unique opportunity to promote the country and spread a little knowledge about our culture to the world.  Maybe you don't care... but many much more enlightened individuals capable of grasping the broader picture do.

Touches I am not one for arugment on this board, but for real that is a pretty poor line of logic he come up with there.  Do you honestly think that this is what people will think from the name Soca Chutney Warriors
Quote
To sum up: the T&T Soca Chutney Warriors would communicate a team of poorly educated curry fanatics.
So now they think we are poorly educated fanatics who cant spell Soccer.

Thats a stretch!!!

Not a stretch at all...if you were paying attention during the broadcast of the Nov. 12 game you'd have heard the team being called the "Soccer Warriors".  Case in point number 2, I am selling some 'Got Soca? Warriors' tee shirts...even my printer calls them "Got Soccer warriors shirts"

The average non west indian has little or no knowledge of what in the world Soca is. To compound it by appending 'Chutney' would only bring further confusion and this is exactly what the author in his own facetious way was trying to convey.

If we didn't make it to de world cup I wonder if they would have still be concern about keeping Soca Warriors,,,,, all of a sudden they proud of Soca in de Warriors and de Soca artist still struggling.... and now de Indian want piece to. It hard for Indian to really get respected in T&T because as soon as T&T make it big in something them creole fighting them down, whether music or sports. No Indian on de team too. They dont complain when Indian copanies sponsor them though.

In case there was any doubt...I am now fully convinced that you both think and speak with your ass.

This man is a c**t who wrote that article...

I find Soca Chutney Warriors sounds stupid whether it made sense or not and we cannot re-name de Soca Warriors,,, that I agree with..... But Chutney is not only a spicy sauce you eat with curry, that is a racsist comment, he knows nothing about indian food and should shut he dam ass because he looking stupid,,, trying to make Chutney look stupid in a smart way, but if it was de other way around them indian dead for saying that,,,, I believe he related to Cro Cro, Socapro, Touches or Sugar Aloes.

The comment isn't racist...it was said tongue-in-cheek and he was looking at it particularly from the viewpoint of someone unfamiliar with Trinidad and Tobago...go look up the definition of 'Chutney' in the dictionary and see what you find.

Be careful in your haste to paint other with the stupid brush that some of that self same paint don't splatter on you.

I normally say tuh hell with ah intro...I jumping een...and dat's exactly what I did.  Better late than never though so here goes:

How did you find us

Not too sure, but it was last year leading up to the campaign.  Then just about a month ago a beautiful friend of mine pointed me to a thread here.  Now my second home on the net.
Your location now and T&T.

Valencia/Arima....now in Washington DC

Why did you choose that handle (name).

Wanted something that's quintessentially 'Trini'...without actually saying 'Trini'.  Too many 'Trini(this)' and 'Trini(that)' as is.  Most West Indians...andcertainly any Trini should be able to peg me as Trini from jump.

How long have you been following the Warriors football team.

Mid-eighties, de 'Gally' Cummings era, when we were the 'Strike Force'.

Best memory as a Warriors supporter to date.

Wow...so many.  Richmond, VA vs. the USA during qualifying run up to France '98.  We lost, but ended up having a mini-J'Ouvert outside in the streets afterwards.  Even the American fans were chipping along.  That was nice...but qualifying on November the 16, 2005 was tops.  I cried...grown ass man and all, cried like a baby.

What T&T school did you attend.

Holy Cross College, and later St. Augustine Sr. Sec. Comp for 'A's

Favorite player (T&T and Global).

Shaka; Growing up...John Barnes.  Now a tossup between Ronaldinho & Thierry Henry

Favorite country and club team.

T&T and England...I ent go even lie.  TnT was my heart...but England (for realistic purposes) was my team.  Liverpoo/Arsenal on the club level.

Pick your best world & T&T eleven.

No can do...I'd only be perpetrating by naming names

Care to give someone or a player a shout-out.

Large up the entire Soca Warriors squad...and good cheer and good courage to the Warrrior Nation massive.

Are you a current or former player ? if so what team.

Sorry...I only good at playing de ass.

none taken (now), sweetie...but my comment was in relation to the question i posed in which i asked what is Trini culture... :) maybe you would like to offer a definition?

Hard question indeed to answer.  I'd say that Trinidad is a dynamic mosaic of peoples of the African, Asian and European disaspora and that our culture is the unique expression of the sum of those collective experiences.
and how would you suggest such a diaspora be represented on the world's stage?

That's a question that would be better posed to the marketing gurus charged with promoting we culture, and perhaps something. that should have been thought of before they settled on the 'Soca Warriors' moniker...which itself is biting off ah Jamaica's "Reggae Boyz"...which itself bites off of Brazil's "Samba Boys".

« on: January 19, 2006, 11:01:43 AM »
We have support in places we would never think.  Back in November George Vecsey (New York Times columnist) spent the afternoon in the Flatbush apartment of a Trini fella and some friends taking in the game in Bahrain.  The following day (Nov 17) he wrote a really nice article in the Times about the experience, and that he was backing the Warriors...he also mentioned that we had the support of Paul Caligiuri, who scored that infamous goal against us.  I recently contacted both of them to send them both a Got Soca? Warriors T shirt that we made.  This was the note from George Vecsey:

Dear Mr. (Bakes):
It is nice to hear from you. I'm honored by your note. Ever since that day in 1989, I have openly pulled for T&T.
My paper has very strict ethical guidelines but I believe there is a t-shirt clause in there somewhere.
I would be thrilled to receive a t-shirt that would make me even more of an honorary Trini.
        The NYT address is:

        George Vecsey
        Sports Dept. -- 4
        The New York Times
        229 W. 43 St.
        New York, NY 10036.

Thanks. I will be catching up with the SoCa Warriors in Germany, maybe even for their first game.
        Regards, George Vecsey

De man say he's ah honorary Trini, oui...
