Football is a team sport. And as much as I had hoped for a better game, meaning a narrow loss, we have to be realistic.
1. Fenwick saw several of these guys for the first time on Friday morning.
2. Several of the guys never saw their teammates before Friday morning much less play with them
3. Watching film and talking through strategy is useless without time putting it into practice.
4. The USMNT has been in training in Florida for weeks and many are on the verge of breaking into the first team.
5. None of the members of the TTMNT play at the top level of US Soccer.

From my observation, several of the players in this game will not put on a shirt for TT when other players join the team. Molino, Garcia, Jones (Joevin), hopefully Frenderup, and several others, now overseas, are likely to be in the game against Guyana and in future qualifiers.
Fenwick was right to accept the game as playing pickup games is no way to determine the quality of your team. We will see who are the resilient ones, who uses this beating as a stimulus to work and get better. The weak minded don't deserve to play irrespective of their individual skill.
Give Fenwick some time. He needs it.

Agree with everything you said. If the choice was to take this game and nothing, I think they made the right choice. At least now TF knows what these players are.

All the people saying we should have parked the bus, it would not have changed the result. And if we had parked the bus, you likely would have complained about that too.

Wth is going on...there is literally no composure. It’s like we have 8 defenders.,.that are always second to the ball. #3 Pena is non existent...Mr. Tactician Terry, I really hope he could Atleast put together a better defense come second half...and a holding midfield would be nice as well. What d assss, I never see our team play like this before...we haven’t even put together a few passes proper

Pena is the only player who completed a pass in the first half. And had a through ball too on the right side. But he does not look like a defender.

On defense, we are dropping back but somehow not marking and still giving the opposition a lot of space in and around the area. Not tracking any runs.

We have to learn how to play a long driven air ball with and without back spin. Them high, slow, floating ball forward is the worst thing I see.

We lack overall technique and football IQ. Plan should be to instill this at youth level and come up with a long term plan. Seems like the administration has no desire to do this and are only interested in enriching themselves. We are in really bad shape

No doubt better coaching can make any team play better, regardless of ability. But as was rightly pointed out, the problem with TT football is systemic, and the gap between us and other nations is widening, because they are advancing while we stand still or even move backwards.

To turn this around you need to have better youth development. As demonstrated in this tournament, our players have individual skill, but the vast majority lack football intelligence, refined technique and fitness. Only training starting from the youth levels can help that. A national coach isn't changing that.

Massive difference in technical ability. Our players' ball control was several levels below that of the US. And because we couldn't control the ball, the second play (pass or shot) was often hurried or under duress, leading to a turnover in possession. That is not Latapy's fault. He can't teach that with his limited time with the team. That has to be taught and developed from grassroots level, and with the players' regular clubs/teams.

They missing Joevin bad in Seattle, which I predicted would happen. He was comically underrated in the MLS in my opinion.

I must say that that my patience is wearing thin with Hyland.

I echo the same sentiment

Hyland makes mistakes but i not sure if we have any real quality replacement at this time.
excuse me for interjecting but i get the feeling that many of you don't realize the magnificent contributions of khaleem hyland on this team. and so what if he loses the ball now and then most CM do lose possession from time to time that is normal in the game of football, they also make bad passes and foolish tackles that position is not a pretty one.

I have noticed quite often how hyland's detractors miss the positive contribution but highlight the mistakes. .No one talks about the plays that he breaks up the the midfield, his movement off the ball his professional fouls (something we didn't do prior to hyland which lead to a lot of break away goals) his ability to make dangerous attacking passes that lead to quite a few goals in the lead up to the hex.

people seem to forget that we have the least amount of quality of any team in the hex and a player such as hyland may struggle on this team but would probably flourish on a better team alongside better players. Ok he made a blunder that lead to the first goal but no one saw how Cyrus was ball watching instead of picking an unmarked player, maybe if other players were in tuned with the rest of the team they would have done the smart thing and took down nagbe and take a card for the team rather than allowing him to make the cross that lead to the goal.

What are you, his godfather?

Hyland is not an intl, he's a club baller, that's it..

Practice champ.. I would bench him for the rest of the campaign

Hyland has good qualities, but his touch is heavy and he gives away possession too easily to be a center midfielder we can rely on. Maybe try him wider, further up field, or in the back. But playing him is a deep lying center mid is asking for trouble. This is not the first time his loss of possession has directly led to a goal. I wonder how come Boucaud can't get a bligh?

« on: March 30, 2017, 02:36:23 PM »
We played a good match and held our own against the class of the federation. Ppl acting like they expected us to blaze them. Mexico showed us a lot of respect, KJ and Joevin in particular, in a VERY close game.

I agree KJ should have stayed on, as he was occupying and pressuring defenders well. The importance of using him as an outlet was evident once he was taken off and we struggled to maintain possession. The Mexican defenders also were more comfortable coming forward after that.

I would not have minded seeing Levi, but thought Plaza and Boatswain both showed something after they came on. Plaza had a real crossing opportunity from in the box (probably our best position)... before playing it out after hesitating too long. Unless i am mistaken, i think his hustle and speed created this opportunity.

I don't like questioning the coach when we aren't present during training. Perhaps Boatswain has been ripping up in training and scoring with regularity. I'm sure he has his reasons.

Great effort fellas. Proud of the performance. Mexico, the best team in the region, could only score off of a set piece. We have a lot to build on.

Joevin Jones is a special, special player. My word. Sky is the limit for him.

For a centre mid, Hyland does real give away possession boy

Fellas,

Read through this thread. Can someone explain to me why our local-based team cannot be exceptionally fit? I understand there may be shortcomings in talent etc., but fitness seems like the lowest hanging fruit. Especially before the qualifiers if the pro league is in off season. These guys should be in camp for a 4 to 6 weeks and in prime condition. What makes one team fitter than another? Does it just come down to physical ability again?

You say they can't fix technique when they are already at senior level, but all european pro players work on technique everyday. Maybe if a player is so far behind on something then it may be impossible to catch up, but you see even seasoned pros make incremental improvements. Just look at somebody at the highest level -  Messi - his free kick-taking ability and overall shooting technique have improved tremendously.

The thing i find we struggle with that the national coach can't improve is fitness.

Dred, these men in their mid-20s, making less than $150K a year in the MLS (IN THEIR PRIME YEARS). They not in a position to buss style. This isn't like Yorke and Latas, who had already represented the country for 20 years and made a hell of a lot more money and were likely financially set.

It amazes me how little it takes for some of these people to get an inflated sense of self. Molino in particular, who suffered a serious injury should be more grounded.

No need to panic. We played a good team in their house. We looked good in spurts and generated a few chances, if converted would have made the scoreline more respectable. I'm happy Hart at least has the team trying to player a "Trini" brand of ball and the players look confident in possession for the most part.

The team clearly was cruising on autopilot and we not good enough yet to do that against top notch opposition.

Even Real Madrid does get bore with a 3 or 4 nil from time to time.Everybody needs to RELAX

22
Great win fellas. What really impressed me (besides netting three goals in 20 minutes, which I have never seen Trinidad do, even when we used to hit Caribbean sides 7+) was the way we maintained our shape and had positional discipline. I give a lot of credit to coach Hart for that.

Also pleased with the young and upcoming players. Imagine if we had Molino to add to this side.

One note on Guerra, damn that boy talented. If the light switches on for  him...

What??? Of course they are related. That's her half brother!

I won't spoil it for you.

Just some more evidence they are related, back in the beginning Ned recounted to his wife, "Never ask me about Jon," he said, cold as ice. "He is my blood, and that is all you need to know. And now I will learn where you heard that name, my lady."

This was in the book though, so with the show, all bets are off.

Wow what an end to tonight's episode. They doh have enough dragon glass and Valyrian steel to handle dem hordes. If only they had some way to drop fire from the air and clear out big areas, like a fighter bomber dropping napalm or ...

Fire does kill them?

Remember Jon killed the first wight at castle black with fire to save the Lord Commander. That's how he got his sword, Longclaw, i believe.

Ronaldo-Bale-Benzema-James really seem to have a good attacking chemistry

Awesome thread.

The same things that make TNT sweet, are the things that hold us back. As a people, we are generally easy going and laid back; attributes which pervade every aspect of our society, from sport, to business, to politics. It's amazing that we have been able to achieve the level of success that we have.

Our watchwords are discipline, tolerance and production; but we are generally indisciplined and not productive enough. Even tolerance is being tested today.

From what I  understand form a person in the industry, marketing budgets are usually close to the actual production budgets. So good rule of thumb to get total costs is multiply production budgets x2. Then box office receipts are split with the theatres.
