So what wrong with trying to americanise it?
Arent our top soca artistes trying to break in the US market by changing up their music?
Why people always feel threatened by going more american?

If they have the biggest market and best facilities, them maybe they will take it to a next level...
If america put they mind to it, we all know its curtains for the rest of the world in the future world cups.

It really dont matter, football or soccer.
Maybe the article was written for  North American audience as well...?

Way boy, allyuh take dis off on a new Tangent oui...de yankee Trini dem come ridin in like John Wayne ;D

My 2cents is people feel 'threatened' by going american because you lose part of what was you....whether it was part of your culture, identity or otherwise

It might seem harmless enough to simply change the name worldwide to soccer but its a slippery slope, what else do you roll over an accept as 'no big ting'

The same way world journalists cant start referring to NBA players as 'Netballers' or change the name of American traditional sport. It should go both ways

That being said, change is inevitable, but I think some things should retain its original identity permanently.

The way they get their surnames is they take their father's first name and add sson if a male, or dottir if a female.
So Gujdonsson father first name is something like Gudjon.

"Yorke to dash back to Sydney
By Ray Gatt
March 1, 2006

SYDNEY FC is leaving nothing to chance in ensuring key player Dwight Yorke is fit and fresh for Sunday's decider, even as he completes a 48-hour round trip on international duty.

Yorke is not expected back in Australia until Friday morning (AEDT) after playing in a World Cup warm-up match for Trinidad and Tobago against Iceland in London.
It will leave the midfielder precious little time to prepare properly with his Sydney teammates for the grand final against the Central Coast Mariners. However, it is a situation for which the Sydney hierarchy is well-prepared.
Yorke will fly home first class to ensure he is comfortable for the 24-hour journey and gets adequate sleep. On arrival he will be whisked off for a private recovery session and will be instructed to stay awake for the rest of the day.
His one and only session with the side will be on Saturday morning when the team will run through its set-pieces.
Sydney officials had been contemplating rushing him back on the first available flight out of London after the Iceland game but that meant he would have arrived home on Thursday night, making it more difficult for his body to adjust to the time difference.
Sydney coach Pierre Littbarski admitted the Yorke situation had given him some headaches but was quick to laugh it off.
"He will have some time for recovery work and that is it," Littbarski said. "We can't do much about it.
"I'll make sure he gets to bed and I'll read him some bedtime stories to get him to sleep and hope he recovers."

Littbarski said he had no qualms releasing Yorke for the international - not that he could have done anything about it given it is a FIFA-designated international date.
Before leaving for London, the Yorke, 34, asked Sydney fans to understand his situation.
"I hope people understand how important it is for me to be representing my country, especially with the World Cup just four months away," Yorke said.
"As the captain of my country, it is important that I play in this match against Iceland."
Littbarski sided with him yesterday.
"I understood his decision," Littbarski said after the Sydney squad went through a one-hour session at Aussie Stadium.
Yorke, who missed three matches during the A-League season because of international duty, has never shirked his commitment to Sydney and demanded to play each time he returned, even if he had had only 48 hours to recover.
Meanwhile, young defender Jacob Timpano is almost certain to reclaim a role after missing the second leg major semi-final victory against Adelaide United two weeks ago through injury.
Timpano has been working tirelessly on a groin strain and showed no signs of discomfort during training yesterday.
The coach also confirmed experienced Andrew Packer will play at right back in place of the suspended Mark Milligan.
Hopes for a sell-out crowd of 42,000 for the grand final have been boosted after Football Federation Australia announced that the match is now "fully subscribed".

Everybody beating down Latapy game. Did anyone noticed as soon as he got in the game ISL had 2 men on him and pulling him down. My first thought was that they knew he is our unsung football hero and they where aware of his skills. They ensured that he had no length of time with the ball because he could have been very dangerous. Just my oppinion buit you all need to watch the game again and then reply to my post. I was proud to watch the game yesterday my inlaws are german and he is a big football fan he was greatly impressed with our game yesterday infact he noted the speed of our guys. He was supprized at the control we had of the game and that Germany could have only drawed 0-0 with ISL and we beat them by 2-0.
I was so talking Latapy up to him and he noticed tha ISL would not let him get the ball. He said"apparently they (ISL) afraid of him to look how they ruffing him up. He is tiny though"

I agree with that sentiment

I sure the Icelandic scouting reports had Latas as de man to mark cause he quietly dangerous...so dem fellahs lock him dong

As I see it everyone will over anal-yze the individuals but as a team none can deny they actually played as a fluid UNIT
Were there some rough spots? Yes!!....no worries Beenie go bring out he belt sander and smoooden ;) dat out

Even if we lose one of the next tune-up games.......barring injury, dem fellash ready fud de Big show :beermug:

Ent was Mike Berry predict 2-0 vs Iceland.?....bess aks he what is de rest of de predictions

Yorke's warriors ready for battle on neutral soil
By Kaveh Solhekol
IT MAY be more than 4,000 miles from London to Port of Spain, but FA scouts had to hop only eight stops on the London Underground from Soho Square to Loftus Road last night to run the rule over Trinidad & Tobago.

The last team to book a place in the World Cup finals this summer will be England’s second opponents in group B, in Nuremberg on June 15, and Dwight Yorke and Co were eager to show that they will not be going to Germany to make up the numbers. A blistering start and a routine 2-0 victory against an Iceland team that failed to qualify suggests that England will need to be wary of the Soca Warriors, although a shock defeat is unlikely.

The Caribbean nation, population 1.1 million, is the smallest country ever to qualify for the finals and much of the credit must go to Leo Beenhakker. The 63-year-old former Holland and Real Madrid manager has turned a group of underachieving players into an unconventional force since he was appointed head coach 12 months ago.

“I am very happy with the result,” Beenhakker said. “We still have to do a lot of work to be successful in Germany, but I was very pleased with our performance and I could not have asked any more from my players.”

Hermann Hreidarsson was at fault for the opening goal when the Charlton Athletic defender allowed Yorke to bring down a cross by Collin Samuel and volley past Arni Arason. The Trinidad captain was a constant thorn in Iceland’s side, dropping deep to escape the attentions of his markers and displaying a turn of pace rarely seen since his glory days at Manchester United.

Yorke, now with Sydney FC, doubled the advantage early in the second half from the penalty spot after Stern John was pushed by Ivar Ingimarsson, the Reading defender. His penalty-taking technique will be familiar to millions: a nonchalant chip was enough to wrap up victory.

Trinidad had started in a 4-4-1-1 formation but with Yorke roaming wherever he could find space and defenders taking it in turns to forage forward, Beenhakker’s philosophy of total football was writ large on his team’s display. One minute Dennis Lawrence was making last-ditch tackles in his penalty area, the next the Wrexham defender was dribbling at the other end of the pitch.

While Lawrence roamed, Chris Birchall stood firm in front of his defence. The Port Vale midfield player did not put a foot wrong in the holding role and his tough tackling and neat link-up play should give Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard something to think about this summer.

Beenhakker has identified the left-hand side of his team as a concern and the head coach claims that Samuel is the only left-footed player that he has at his disposal, but on the evidence of this display, Gary Neville will have to be alert to the danger posed by the Dundee United winger when their paths cross in June.

Defensively, Trinidad look sound, but Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney are likely to pose more of a threat than Iceland could muster and FA scouts will have noted Lawrence and Marvin Andrews’s preference for playing their way out of trouble rather than launching the ball into row Z.

According to Beenhakker it will be an honour for his team to play against Sven-Göran Eriksson’s side because “for everybody that lives in the football world, England is a team with great history”. David Beckham and his team-mates would do well not to let diplomatic words lull them into a false sense of security.

By the time that Yorke was replaced by Russell Latapy after an hour, choruses of “Are you watching Eriksson?” were ringing out around Loftus Road. The England head coach was otherwise engaged, but he will find the video interesting viewing.

THE LOWDOWN - TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

KEY PLAYER: Dwight Yorke may have lost some of his pace, but the former Manchester United forward still possesses the guile and touch that made him a favourite at Old Trafford.

STYLE: Fluid. With Yorke playing, 4-4-2 can become 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

STRENGTHS: Germany was a distant dream when Leo Beenhakker replaced Bertille St Clair as manager in April. The Dutchman’s tactical acumen should not be underestimated.

WEAKNESSES: Marvin Andrews and Dennis Lawrence are cult heroes at Rangers and Wrexham, but the central defenders may struggle to cope with the striking talents of Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.

VERDICT: Three points in the bag for England.
