Football / Re: Home of Football Thread
« on: March 20, 2019, 03:18:57 PM »
The project "Home of Football" is a very good idea that should provide financial benefit and prestige to TT football. The problem is that the non-disclosure, secrecy, refusal to provide documents suggests corruption. There needs to be transparency. I support Look-Loy's attempts to obtain documents.

We blame the coach and the players because they are the visible targets. But does anyone expect that you could put together a team two weeks before an international tournament, with no friendlies, and beat a US team that has been together for two years, practices together every few months, and has played together in 6 or 7 international friendly games against world class opponents? The real problem (and I admit that Coach Latapy has his deficiencies) is a football administration that is self-serving, egotistical bunch that does not look out for the interest of its players and the country.
This is a pattern that has been displayed at every level - with the National Senior men's team, with the National Senior women's team and again with the U-20s. In any self-respecting community, the president and his entire team would resign in shame. But that's not the Trini way.

Waldrum writes to TTFA: I can take over the women’s programme.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

FORMER head coach of the TT senior national women’s team Randy Waldrum has written to the TT Football Association to express his interest in rejoining the team, saying he is “not too concerned with his financial package” if he is to be considered and that there are prerequisites that come with his offer.

“As the former women’s national team coach of Trinidad and Tobago, I have obviously followed the situation very closely since leaving there after the last World Cup qualifiers,” he wrote in an email directed to the TTFA hierarchy on Monday.

“I love your country and more importantly the players in the program, so I would certainly entertain the possibility of returning to coach the team again.”

This is the man to coach the Women's national team. He has been the most successful women's coach and has shown loyalty to the Warrior ladies when the TTFA did not deserve it. The President should swallow their pride and bring him back.

How many of those games were friendlies? You sending players to a bunch of Tournaments with now match practice and saying" they participated in 19 international matches.."  What is the point? Bull crap!

Football / The Future of Levi Garcia
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:58:19 AM »
An opinion:
After moving to Europe and appearing to be the most promising young Trinidad and Tobago player since Dwight Yorke, Levi Garcia appears to be heading down the path of many of our young players - the path of disfavor, anonymity, and disvalue. There was such bright hope that he would slowly climb the ladder of respectability as a quality, sought-after, excellent football player among the higher European leagues. His brilliant two-goal performance in his TT debut has never been duplicated.  Sadly, his appearance in the Israeli League seems more like one seeking refuge than attaining acclaim.  It is sad that such a promising player appears to be entering a career as a football nomad.  One option could be to return close to home and attempt to regain his footing in the MLS. And this is only my opinion.

Rochford is right about the attitude of TT players. But there is another question to be asked. Do we have the right coach? Latapy was arguably one of our greatest players, but his track record as a coach is dubious at best. Is it coaching? is it players? Do we have right selection? These are questions to be asked, analyzed carefully and make decisions appropriately.

Great article and interview!

I do not currently live in Trinidad and Tobago but I try to follow our teams and athletes wherever they are. But, here is one reason our athletics seem to be going no where.  I could only find small snippets of reports of the National Athletic Championships. Are there Videos anywhere? Interviews ?

Football / Re: Jamaica Football Thread.
« on: March 23, 2018, 07:05:15 AM »
JA has the potential to be a powerhouse in Concacaf. Throw Leon Bailey into the mix, and is fire.

I not surprised at the depth JA has overseas. I find that even some of the smaller Islands have more depth than TT. Grenada has 2 premier league players and a handful in the lower divisions that they haven't tapped into as yet. . Just something to think about.

Jamaica by far has the most depth overseas because of their travel and migration history. T&T has depth, but we don't scout well and our federation is a mess. Jamaica tends to play higher quality friendlies.

Ditto! We've been saying it for years. You cannot play lower ranked countries, small club teams and improve. We must attempt to schedule teams that will beat us, test us, and strengthen us. And we cannot put a team together a few weeks before tournament time and expect to be successful. But with the TTFA administration in such a mess, hope is dimmer than ever.

Indoors is completely different to outdoor running.  you hardly ever find the same people winning both. for example, has Bolt ever run indoors or won an indoor medal? Its a banked track with sharp turns. I wouldn't worry too much about the results here.  Having said that, I am impressed with the return of Deon Lendore, which strengthens the 400 pool, but i am worried that Cedenio doesn't appear as strong and fast as he was two years ago. From my eyes, he appears over weight but that could be deceiving.

In all fairness, TT had an average of 7 players missing per match.

It irked me to see TT fumble against Guyana while Pooran and Bravo were playing cricket in TT.
Barbados and Guyana were also missing players, though not as many. But that's part of the problem! Why weren't Bravo and Pooran selected? It is partly the shabby way our players are treated and the poor forward planning. A supposed misunderstanding or miscommunication that prevents Bravo from being selected is unforgivable in this age of technology.

Jamal Shabazz is a dumb ass.

You losing 3-1 facing certain elimination and you are not committing numbers forward. No press, no support in forward positions, no commitment to the attack.

Absolutely ridiculous.  :pissedoff:
he was never going to beat Canada or seriously threaten their goal. Why make the score look worse than it was. If we played with 14 we may not get a organized attack, what makes you think Shabazz will get a win down 3-1 with 10. When I putting down the coach, prefer to keep it real. My only quarrel with the man is, he not aware of football outside the nation.

Don't totally agree with that.

Costa Rica could have said the same thing, but look at how they responded and what it did to Haiti. We needed to play for 1 goal at a time. I'm not saying attack with reckless abandon, but we had some nice spots where we could have took a chance and we never did. We resigned from early to not "losing bad". That's coward, and taught our players that they are indeed inferior. I don't like that approach.

We've been surrendering like this for decades and now it seems to be who we are. This is why at 1-1 we wilt. We show no fight or mental fortitude to fight back especially when we're leading and give up goals.
"Saving face" needs to not be part of who we are.

Fitness is achieved by playing often, against better teams and learning to fight. Our teams are not fit, reason they can't survive aftera  few minutes. Of course, the girls were not better than Canada, but have a ot of promising players.

First, we need good coaches. When we get good coaches, we run them off because the egos of our administrators are larger than their abilities. Then we must change our method of preparation. We cannot play against each other and hope to get better. We must compete against better opponents, whether we win or lose. Preparation must include playing numerous friendlies against better opposition. And this goes for all our teams - male and female, or we are doomed to remain on the outside of every major tournament.

Cricket Anyone / Administration ineptitude
« on: January 21, 2018, 01:17:14 PM »
In any other place with a reputable sports administration, the coach and selectors would all present their letters of resignation.  The results of the Trinidad and Tobago cricket team, has been a disgrace for the last several years, with blame to be shared by everyone. Administrators lead by putting in place programs to ensure success or at least be competitive. While Guyana continues to win, the Red Force has made only backward steps. It has been a repeat of bad performances followed by worse ones' optimistic press proclamations followed by abjectly inept performances on the field. Truly, it appears to be a duplicate of the senior West Indies team which continues to produce serial disappointing performances sprinkled with one-off performances that continually crush the pride of every West Indies cricket fan. So, it is time for a new approach with new leadership that understands, and can produce, methods of coaching and leadership that provides hope for success. To the administration of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, please give someone else a chance to lead us out of this season of pain and shame.  Do the honorable thing and resign.

Why would anybody do business, sign a contract or make loans to these guys. This is endemic Trini disorganization and corruption.
On a better note, I am praying that there is a new spirit, new leadership and a return to winning on the field in 2018. "Happy New Year to all Forumites."

Any decent honorable leader who respects his reputation would resign, but despots never take responsibility for their failures and only cling to power in their narcissism!

Glad for him. Real glad. But help me clarify something here. But isn't this a violation of NCAA rules?
It is not a violation to sign a professional contract. Now that he is signed he will just give up his scholarship, pay his own way through school and cannot run for Alabama. There is only a violation if he signs and then represents Crimson Tide, then it's the University of Alabama's problem.

Before thinking about 2022, we have the CFU, Gold Cup, PanAM and Olympics. Let's see if we could go to the finals of one of this competition. If we can't ..... what 2022 we talking about?

Exactly! We build from the bottom up, not hoping to win a Hex when we don't pay attention to developing our players.  We should be participating in all the tournaments that would give us the experience to grow.

We have no clinical strikers since Stern John!  No one who strikes fear into the opposition defenders. Kenwyne Jones, because of his size and strength and ability to hold the ball creates some opportunities for others to capitalize on. Molino is a good player but as a playmaker, he is no Messi or Ronaldo and can only do so much.  Cummings was a valuable player who could score and came closest to the ideal sidekick for Jones, but he's done as a result of his gunshot would. Valuable years lost. My observation was that we could take more chances at goal - a surprise shot from just outside the box on occasion.  Now, we need to unearth future quality strikers among our U-20 group for the future.
Defensively, we often look confused as if there is no communication. That needs fixing. Too many unmarked opposition players in the box. And oh for he era of great keepers coming out of Trinidad and Tobago.
Still, I am a Soca Warrior all the way. Go T&T!

Can Sando and others who are unaware please note that his name is Jereem Richards and not Jareem Richards.

I think Jereem has been touted as the best performing Caribbean althele at the London World  Championships.

I am sure Jareem not toting feelings about his name being misspelt like you. Doh worry everything will be ok  :D
.

Who told you that I am toting feelings about anything? I simply decided to help you out.

It seems that like the immature person you are you are obviously toting feeling about being corrected.

If you were a grown-up you would have just said thank you and moved along so it is obvious that no one else is toting feeling about being corrected but yourself.

PS:
You can continue to misspell Jereem's name if you wish which only proves my point that you are toting feeling about being corrected. Maybe one day you will grow-up? But I suspect we would actually see Watson Duke swim from Tobago to Trinidad before then!  ;)

We eh play no opposition of consequence yet. Tempered celebration.
Exactly! We always get excited against these poor unprepared teams then get our behinds kicked by decent opposition. Case in point: Our Under 15 get beaten by Jamaica 8-1 and allows 23 goals in 3 matches against CONCACAF opposition. Nuff said!

As 2017 come to an end my opinion is a mixed one. Happy and sale the 4x400 men relay team and happy for Jareem Richards progress. BUT at the same time we are witnessing the big decline in times and competitiveness from some of our top athletes. Jehue Gordon had no impact this year (Third year straight now). Keshorn had a disappointing season and Ahye was mediocre all season.
.

And except for the 4x4 WC final, Marcel Cedenio did not perform well coming off a brilliant 4th in Rio
