Football / Re: Blatter wants alternative to shootouts
« on: May 25, 2012, 11:16:41 PM »
I agree with Kicker that penalties are very fair because each team has the same opportunity.  Sometimes teams like Barca and Arsenal become so focused on style of play that they forget the object of the game is to score goals.  Yes some teams might be better in terms of attractiveness of play but at the end of the game the only "better" that counts is which team was better at putting de ball in de net.

So a team that doesn't take a shot at goal during regulation and extra time but insteadpulls all XI players back hoping for penalties is the "better" team if they "win" the penalty shootout?

We'll agree to disagree here.

Football is entertainment.  PERIOD.  And teams that sacrifice entertainment at the altar of result do the game a disservice in my opinion.

At the VERY LEAST....try to win.  It's why catanaccio was HATED back in the 70's and anti football is no different.  How many people outside of a Greece fan could honestly say they were ENTERTAINED by Greece in Portugal?

If yuh is a minnow playin a giant...at least I could understand why u playin dat way.  But when alleged "BIG" teams adopt the same tactics, it seem cowardly to me.

Even when little T&T played in Germany, they had their critics amongst their own fans.  Why Beenie didn't give Latas more time?  He tied down de players too much and didn't showcase de "trini brand".  How Theobald could play over Latas?  etc etce etc

To each their own.  I like positive football.  If "result" football is all you care about...more power to you.

And that "you" is a collective "you"...not aimed at anyone in particular.

But Palos, de only thing that counts is results.  For us fans football is entertainment yes.  For the teams playing the game the only thing that counts is the score at the end of the game.  For all the attractive football Barca and Beyern Munich play I guarantee yuh that they would gladly have taken a ugly win instead of a pretty loss.

I'm not supporting de "park de bus" brand by any means.  As a fan of Brazil and Arsenal  I like attractive football but when it comes to my teams I'll take ugly winning over pretty losing any day.

If Blatter wants to keep de essence of Team don't get rid of penalty kicks.  Make all 11 players take part in the shootout.  De only downside is that the game will last longer.

The only time we had an easy semifinal group to get to the hex was in 2005.  In 2001 we had Mexico, Canada, the defending gold cup champions, and Panama in our group.  In 2009 we had USA, Guatemala and Cuba.  Those were not easy groups at all.

We should not react to how many world cups we reach?  Isn't that the major goal of all national teams?

The game in Guyana was an elimination game.  If that wasn't motivation then no speech was going to work.

I think it is foolish that they use FIFA rankings to determine something as important as world cup qualifying.

It's funny how de only one who didn't want to bring their own assistants get de job (supposedly).  This means that Birchall and Darryl Roberts could forget about ever playing fuh T&T again.  Most likely Latapy will be de assistant and his Gold Cup failures will be back again.

I was hoping that with a new coach we could see a midfield with Roberts, Birchall and Hyland but I think I could stop dreaming now.

The league does not need to be discontinued what needs to happen is it needs to come under the bracket of the TTFF , most European leagues are at least affiliated to the FA.

After the TTFF have proven they they are failures at everything they touch we need our pro league to stay as far from the TTFF as possible.

Beat up caribean teams so with a local squad.

I dont remember this happening in recent memory.

Haiti is a team that usually gives us problems even under great dutch coaches like Wim I remember haiti giving us problems in the digicel.

St Vincent probably have a weaker squad than usual so maybe that is why hit them for 6 and the Guyana game could have been 4-0 if win finished 2 sitters in the second half.

realistically speaking based on this young squad with mostly new men with limited 1 st team caps these are some very good results.

People have to remember that most of our previous losses were on the road and young players with limited experience sometimes do not adjust well.

It is more about the experience than the result.

Now that we are in competition and results matter

Look At the Results!

Fire Latapy my ass.

They better lock in the contract from Now!

They man doing a good job,
Locally focused
Youth Focused

Trying new players

and most of all willing to work and develop the players.

He is the right man for the Job.

Not so much to make gold cup or make world cup, but rather to mold the next generation of players that will be the core of our team for the next 10-15 years.

The man is doing a good Job

When was the last time we beat up Caribbean opposition so?????????

Remember this is only the first step in trying to qualify for the Gold Cup.  It way to early to get carried away.  We still have to go to Martinique and actually qualify.

Nice win by de warriors but we need to solve we defensive problems quick.  I think that is one of the most worrying aspects of Latapy's coaching.

Football / Re: CONCACAF to revisit W'Cup qualifying format
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:33:32 AM »
I think it's ridiculous that FIFA rankings are used to determine seeding for world cup qualifying.  FIFA rankings should never be used for anything other than bragging rights among fans.

They should use the results from the previous world cup qualifying cycle to determine seedings.
So why have rankins @ all if it's supposedly inconsequential?

That is a question for FIFA.  As far as I am concerned they could get rid of the rankings tomorrow.  They are useless in my book.

Football / Re: Making T&T league a better place.
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:27:45 AM »
Dexter Skeene's reply is confusing to me.  What does this idea have to do with the TTFF?  The TTFF and the PFL are separate entities.  The idea that Flex is talking about should not involve the TTFF in any way.

Tallman is 100% correct as well.  This issue is one that the PFL players need to come together and implement.  If at some point the owners of the PFL teams decide to set up something similar then that is fine but the responsibility falls mainly on the players.

Another idea for the players is to come together and buy some type of group insurance coverege for injury/disability etc.  This would provide some type of financial protection no matter how small until the league improves and player salaries increase.  Later on the players can look into forming a union, collecting dues and creating some type of retirement plan, better injury protection etc.

Football / Re: FIFA considers World Cup changes
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:22:09 PM »
I don't think that is a very good idea.  I think a better way to make the game more exciting is to make goals scored the first tiebreaker in tournaments instead of goal difference.  Give teams an incentive to play more attacking football.  With goal difference being the first tiebreaker used, teams still have an incentive to  try to keep the opposing team from scoring.  If goals scored was the first tiebreaker teams will focus more on scoring and less on keeping the opposing team from scoring.

Is funny how Bob Bradley is suddenly this great coach when a little more than a year ago he was on de verge of being fired.  Remember what happened to de US in de gold cup final?  What happened to de US in copa america?  What was happening to de US in de confederations cup before they went on that hot streak?

Bob Bradley is by no means an EPL coach in my opinion.  He has not done anything that Bruce Arena did not do.

His list of accomplishments does not come close to Arena's.  Does anyone thing Bruce Arena is an EPL calibre coach?
