what buffon did and what ronaldo did are very different..
what buffon did is was run to the referee to draw to his attention an off-the ball foul that the referee did not see..
what ronaldo did was try to influence the referee on a decision on a play the referee was in full view of.

to blame buffon for anything is ridiculous..if carlos edwards had get headbutt down and shaka run to point it out to the ref it wouldnt even be an argument here ent??

your attempt to word this differently does not make a difference..

BOTH buffon and ronaldo were attempting to influence the referee into taking action and making a decision.

How does Ronaldo know that the ref saw the stamp on de man balls??
How does Buffon know that the lines didn't see the headbutt??

They both acted instinctively to protect their teammates. Remember.. What we are debating here is not the severity of the respective incidents, but the reaction of the victims' teammates.

If shaka had done it I would not have a problem because I don't have a problem with what Buffon or Ronaldo did either.

they not saying anything about buffon in france cause they venting their fury at materazzi..

So we can't really make that comparison because they have a culprit in this case to throw their anger at..

what buffon and ronaldo did was the natural reaction and correct thing..

to be honest boy pompey, i guess its in-bred bias which we are all guilty of that prevents us from seeing things objectively when our team is at the centre.. De french want to know what Materazzi say, its his fault he goaded zidane and cause it, gallas say he want to smash his face...

We trinis vex that crouch pull sancho hair and bawling cheat, but in truth and fact, there is no way the ref could have seen that to call it...  if anything i thought the call would have been for climbing on the defender (still cant understand how a man who is 6"7 always needs to climb on opponents for headers)..

i just felt that the english press went a bit overboard on ronaldo and directing ALL the blame his way...  i see in the papers yesterday on one page "Ronaldo the Rat", and on another page Rooney diving off a yacht frolicking and enjoying himself, how come nobody throwing no vitriol his way?

The only difference I see, is the Trini's defending Zidane because of something that was said to him. If Zidane was English, or if it was Rooney who head butted someone, then there would be people on here calling for his blood.

Zidane's head butt was a hell of a lot more obvious than Rooney's stamping as well.

This just looks like another stupid attempt to have a go at the English.  ::)

its not having a go at the english its an objective question...

what is being questioned is the act of running up to the officials and demanding action for an unsavoury incident..

what is so different in what buffon did.. both he and ronaldo ran up to the official to demand action for an attack on their teammate which is very normal and expected.. i would hate for my teammate to sit idly by while someone stamp me on my stones or headbutt me in my chest...

only difference in that in england's search for a scapegoat, they vilified ronaldo and forced the best young player of the world cup out of the premiership...

notice that "rooney accidental stamp" argument is holding no water...

Lets look at Jamaica's policy...

1. Hire a foreign coach

2. Hire a foreign team - Almost de whole side talking, "mates, lads, gaffer", not "bomboclat"

3. Kick anything that moves football

4. Play for as much draw as possible in de qualifiers

We didn't follow dat bredda...

Our whole side was local based, not no my grandfather outside woman was born in Jamaica so I could get a passport and a bligh..

Our population smaller than Jamaica and we still churn out more big players...

Jamaica was the first team from the Caribbean and to make the World Cup and credit for that but definitely no tabanca here...

Personally, my opinion is that the commercial aspect of the sport is what makes it unpopular as a mainstream sport in the US, and not so much not liking or understand the sport itself.

If you think of it, moreless the first sport american's push their children into from tender ages is 'soccer'. You always hear about the 'soccer moms' and the 'taking my kids to soccer practice'.

But the glitz and glamour and instant gratification nature of sports like basketball, hockey and american football just fit more in with the commercial culture.

In football you can't call a timeout. You can draw up a play to beat the buzzer. You can't call a trick play.

Until the media accepts it, its not going to be mainstream... And that will be never...

Football / Re: Balanced scoring at its best
« on: July 06, 2006, 09:33:12 AM »
this is why italy going and win de world cup, rock solid defence and balanced scoring!!

www.fifaworldcup.com

With ten different scorers so far at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™, Italy have joined the France team of 1982 in spreading the goals around more than any other FIFA World Cup side.
France scored 16 goals in 1982 with ten different players; Italy’s ten have resulted in a total of 11 goals. With nine different scorers in 1982, Brazil are next on the list.

Italy’s scorers on the way to Sunday’s Final in Berlin where they face France (eight goals, four different scorers) are:
v Ghana 2-0 (Pirlo, Iaquinta)
v USA 1-1 (Gilardino) *
v Czech Republic 2-0 (Materazzi, Inzaghi)
v Australia 1-0 (Totti pen)
v Ukraine 3-0 (Zambrotta, Toni 2)
v Germany 2-0 aet (Grosso, Del Piero)

*Zaccardo also got on the scoresheet against the US but as his was an own goal it is understandable he would rather it went unmentioned. It remains the only goal conceded by Italy in the tournament so far.

ah love it!!

Yeah Andre Samuel, this team is indeed well balanced, I still have them as #2 behind the squad of 1990, even though that squad was eliminated in the 2nd rd, but ahead of the squad of 82 which won the WC, the best teams don't always win, just MHO....

hold yuh horses, de squad of 1990 was eliminated by argentina in the semi-finals by that lucky goalkeeper goycochea

8503
de biggest upset is these english crying down ronaldo, de ref, sven, de side, rooney etc. etc...

dey real upset boy!

8504
This whole diving issue is a seriously touchy subject.

Personally, I think players don't need to go to ground for 90% of the fouls they suffer, except tackles received when running at high speed or being tripped. But the thing is, if as a player you are infringed, and prevented from getting the ball, the only way to get the foul call is to go down. Imagine you are in the penalty box, shaping up for your shot, and a defender barge you off the ball unfairly, but you stay standing... No way you get that call, penalties hardly ever called if you stay on your feet.

I think the way to deal with the problem is retroactive punishments for blatant diving, and they also have to target the youth systems to alienate the diving culture from early football learning, and engender a culture of fairness in football.

If you take away the offside rules, someone like Sam Allardyce will devise a way to place all his players on the goal line for free kicks to block keeper and score cheapest goals possible.

A good rule change would be to institute retroactive punishments for cheating and diving when clear evidence is presented on tv replay. This would help cut all that out of the game.

Actually you could be a lot more critical than coming on a message board to conjure excuses for Rooney's indiscretion.

And Ato quotes a good article there. Last time Beckham was the villian until he become a hero and  they start to blame Simeone. Like dis rounds Rooney is being completely absolved from day one and Ronaldo is a villian.

He will get real stick in England this year.

Crouch should be glad he doesn't play in the PFL.

true talk..

does trinidad get the same footage as the uk??

cause i was watching bbc's coverage here in london, and right after the rooney red card, they throw de jacket on ronaldo by replaying the following:

1. Ronaldo coming up to the referee asking for a card
2. Ronaldo winking going to the sideline
3. Ronaldo giving Rooney some ole talk before kick-off like they was trying to suggest he was taunting from de start

all of a sudden dey find all that footage away from de play!

all in all rooney knew what he did.. you would notice no one out of sven and all the england players claimed the sending off was wrong, they just said they hope they dont blame rooney or the penalty takers for the loss...
