« on: February 13, 2007, 09:44:36 PM »
Very good win for W Connection FC. Not really surprised by that result. This team has done what was expected of them.  W Connection is a very professional club and they apparently have a good youth structure in place. This team will do well because they expose their young players to opposition outside the Caribbean that plays at a much higher level.

Development and coaching is different but they can compliment each other...If he was really concerned he would have tried to aid development in whatever way he could or suggest...He could have even request money for helping develop the league...The man is a goat, because I telling yuh if I was a coach and I got a chance to develop an entire nation I would certainly do it...The only how a person would not try to help is if he doesn't care about anything...Nobody can't sit there and say T&T don't have talent ! The talent is there, the development structure is not, as soon as all clubs could build decent youth systems and have a league fitness standard(something I suggesting long time) we will see the drastic improvement...Go T&T

The coach was hired as a head coach not a Technical Director. He's not directly responsible for coaching and player development within the leagues of the country. Someone else has that responsibility. That doesn't make him any less of a coach or that he doesn't care. If you understand football you would know that. For example Alex Ferguson is manager of Man. Utd ...do you think he developed Becks, Giggs, G. Neville, Nicky Butt, Wes Brown, John  O' shea? ???

Yes, long time I haven't make a comment. He goes.

I wouldn't say the league is SHIT!!! It's Professionally Changed.
You don't need money to improve fitness and skill level. Vision cost nothing.(making plays without looking)
Yes facilities are lacking but remember its the same in many third world country with larger population.
T&T lost lost to Costa Rica due to fitness.

Disagree wid on those comments. You need money to invest in player development. The fitness and skill doesn't come on its own. Proper investment is needed.  The players in Africa you see benefit from club academies in Europe. How did you think that Dwight Yorke, Beckham, Stevie Gerrard F. Lampard became such good players ???

Warlord I agree with your points 100%. The only thing I would like to add is that yes the club should be run as a business but people have to realize this is a long term investment. People cannot invest in the smaller clubs and expect an immediate return on investment. Their investment hopefully will come to fruition in about 5-10 years and even that time frame may be ambitious.

Honestly every body including my self always speak about how the PFL is lacking but there have been few threads discussing what can be done to improve the quality of the PFL.

I once suggested that we coolectively raised money to augment the prize money in at least one of these competitions below and no one ever responded.

Lucozade Sport Big 6 prize money ????
First Citizens Bank Cup prize money ????
Toyota Classic prize money ????
Pro Bowl Competition prize money ????

A lack of funds means teams have to look towards selling players to stay afloat. I did the math in another post before

This is how I look at it. The PFl have no gates to give the teams. The prize money not that big. Average salary is about $6000 a player as far as I remember. That is $66000 a month for a starting 11.  If right now selling players paying the bills so be it. This is an opportunity for younger players to get a start and display their talent...

If we want to see our football progress then, just like Wim, we have our role to play. Wim not blaming himself and neither are we as Trinidadians blaming ourselver. So who to blame? What is the purpose of figuring out who to blame?

The problem here is not the amt of $$ available for prizes although you make a good point....the problem here stems partly from the lack of sponsorship( investment) from the Corporate sector of Trinidad and Tobago. The league has to start somewhere but it will take some sponsorship to keep teams afloat over the long term.  The development of young footballers is down to investment opportunities from the corporate sector, hence the reason I said clubs should be run as a business.

I remember reading where Warner was begging the Corporate Sector to invest in Soca Warriors leading up to Germany 2006. The same thing applies to local football leagues. The Federation should also allocate some money to the Pro-league. Maybe it's time for some new administrators in TTFF. Did they ever have elections. It seems like Camps has been there for as long as Warner has been involved with the TTFF

Don't understand what this fussin and fighting is all about. Wim has publicly stated that the league is not the best and that the players play at a certain level and and there is a gap between Pro-league and International football. Why are many here offended by his comments.

It is true after all is said and done. The league is new not even ten years old yet but it will get better with time and that gap will decrease with better players in the league but that will happen with time. Do you think the MLS is at the same level it started at in its first 5 years of existence? I'm not saying it has improved and become one of the world's best...it still has a long way to go but it's producing a few players for their NT as well as exporting a few players to Europe. The Pro-league will get there. The fact that it is the best league in the Caribbean says something but its about marketing the league and bringing in the best players not only from the Caribbean but also from central America as well. It also wouldn't hurt to get a few best young  players from Mex as well as Colombia, Ecuador, Chile etc. That will help the league to become much better and stronger. The problem is that besides Connection and maybe  Joe Public, no one else can pay decent wages to some of the overseas South American players should they decide to play there. Clubs have to have a better structure and fans have to start going to the games and support these teams. The other thing is sponsorship for the smaller clubs ....that would help generate some profits.

Clubs need to be run as a business.

Very good game for the young warriors. I said earlier during the Digi Cup that the Panama and Costa Rico game were good tests but di warriors need to also play another opponent from South America....either Uruguay, Ecuador or Chile. And the coach has answered my prayer. I'm beginning to think he reads the posts and shares the same opinions of some fans like myself. ;)

The only issue is that they're should be 5 or 6 overseas based players on the squad for this game. I'm sure Chile will most likely play a strong team and therefore a mix of youth and experience will do the team will here.

Wim....next game should be against a European team like Poland, Croatia, Turkey or Switzerland.  Maybe even a match against Ghana or Nigeria if possible.

If possible also try to blood a few U-17 prospects as well as maybe 2-3 U-20 players for 2010. I read where Yorke played for the NT when he was 17 and well he graced the highest heights of football. 8)

I just watched the first half. What a way for them to get experience. This might be the best thing that happen to them. I hope they learn from this game. the  CR ball control and one/two. They were outclassed. But I honestly think this is good lesson for them

After watching the goals scored by the Costa Ricans, Jan Williams has to take the blame for the first 3 gols scored against him. He dropped the first gol , then raced of his line for his second creating an open net for the Costa Rican player and the 3rd gol he should 've covered his near post properly.

I saw in the Digi cup and the CFU semi-finals where he did the same thing vs Harbourview and got punished. In international football you cannot make those mistakes they will punish you as well. Notice how the ticos were playing  a fast paced game. That is why the experience will count for the young warriors. The pro-legue should send some teams out there to play games in the off season.

it's funny how people on this board are so fickle. This team exceeded expectations at the recently concluded Digi Cup and most were happy and had praise. Now that this team has gone outside to play different type of opposition and lost the "waggonist" a chat off dem likkle mout...cho.

Unnuh fi tek a chill pill. This team is getting exposure and is learning playing against different opposition. Losing now is part of the process when you are experimenting and rebuilding. The technical staff and coaches know what they are doing so just be patient. Remember the best players will get selected for the GC.

Yuh have some good points dey, the post before dis one, yuh would see we were almost on de same page wid yuh. We said de best will be selected fuh de Gold Cup and WCQ, but we disagree wid a 4-0 loss. We here wasn't expecting ah win by no means, but we were expecting ah descent opposition fuh CR, ah guess tuh some of you all 4-0 is descent, nothing wrong wid dat, tuh each his own opinion. We will just have tuh wait and see where things go from here. HIGHLY BLESSED..

To be honest Costa Rica played with a very strong experienced squad and their league is one of the best in Central America so losing 0-4 to them is not the worst thing in the world. How often do you think these players get to play against this type of opposition on a senior level.

The only 2 big teams that get any exposure to playing outside of TNT is Jabloteh and W Connection. The other teams don't that's why the Jabloteh and Connection teams are better. Their players get exposure almost every season. Same thing shouldapplies here. The league has to become stronger and it will get there one day. Teams have to venture outside of TNT for tours and warm up games exposing young players and that will help in experience and exposure.

It doesn't matter who coaches this team the results will be the same because there is a big gap between pro-league football and Costa Rican or Guatemalan football because the game is played at a much faster pace.

i Think his work ethic is exceptionally poor and that is why he got dropped. He hasn't worked hard enough in the games I've seen him play and the coach agreed with my assessment because I believe he said it in the post match interview of the Barbados game.

Scott Sealy to me is very overrated. He has been down the pecking order for sometime now, and as someone mentioned before...No Jones, Stern John, Scotland, Wolfe and he still gets dropped for a 30 pro league striker and a young player...that says it all.

den when it mattered de most......

Disagree. Haiti played a competitive team in the group stages. Yes they did rest some of the starters for that game but the team was still competitive.

The difference in this game was down to a few mistakes made by the defenders. Any smart person would know that Haiti would try to double team Glasgow and Jemmott because they were the two most creative players on the team forcing other players to step which didn't materialise.

The goals were soft goals. The first goal was a textbook error by Makan Hislop not putting pressure on Eliphene Cadet allowing him to cross the ball uncontested.

The 2nd goal was an error by Williams not smothering that shot properly allowing a long rebound which the defender should've cleared to safety.

Thanks for the report, Andre Samuel, but I will respectfully disagree with you on two points: (1) I feel that Jan Williams could have done better with the second goal, but he otherwise had a good game and, (2) the Haitian 'keeper really wasn't put to task as much as some of us have given him credit for.  Just about all of the balls put in the penalty area were overweighted and favourable to any goalkeeper and our shooting could have been alot better: all the shots went straight to the 'keeper.......just my humble opinion.

Good point. I think Williams has to take responsibility for the 2nd  Haitian goal. He should've gotten his body behind the ball which is fundamental law of stopping those types of shots but he didn't do that. He's had a good tournament but he has to work on collecting those low shots.

Can't say that I was disappointed with this young team. They didn't play well today, and I am disappointed they didn't win this game, but I am  proud of what they achieved in this tournament. They got the respect they deserve along with gaining alot of experience which is vital to player development.

The players I'm sure are disappointed about not winning but they can hold their heads high. This team has almost 2 yrs to fully develop and they will get it right. Congrats to a team that played with heart, grit and determination. :)

The problem right now is that there is no interchange between the midfield and the strikers. The Wingbacks are playing too many long balls forward. When they do so either the taller defenders clear the ball or its too straight to the keeper. Jemmott and Theobald have to come back and link up a lil bit better.

On the goal scored Hislop was left for dead by the number 9 ( eliphene). He needs to put more pressure on the player crossing the balls.

steups...not only did you replace jan michael williams- BUT you predict YOUR goallee is getting 3 goals in the net!!!
what is dat- like you shooting yourself in the foot.
 >:(

Realistically Williams will not get dropped and I don't think the defense will concede that many goals. The only thing I'd like to see is Roberts, Jemmott, and some of the midfielders taking more shots on goal. Haiti's defense is very weak. Their height makes up for what they cannot do on the park.

A game like this should see the ball played short with strikers running into the spaces. jemmott should unlock this team without any problems. His fitness will be a factor....he looked tired in the 2nd half of the Cuba game.

Things looking good...but I will believe it when the whistle blow...

That said, we need to get a third game for the 7th. I wouldn't mind a revenge match with the Guatemalans or a nice friendly with the Hondurans. That way we could stay in Central America. and this could be the scene.

First match against Panama (mainly Digicell cup team) - non fifa matchday
Second match against Costa Rica (mainly younger foreign based and WC locals) - FIFA matchday
Third match against Guatemala/Honduras (whoever looking good) - FIFA matchday

Heck we could even see what Mexico showing under Hugo Sanchez if they ent organise a thing yet  ;D

not disrespecting Honduras/Guate because I like both those teams but I think getting a South American team like Chile, Ecuador or Uruguay would be a better test for the Warriors. If the Federation could get a game with one of those teams that would be something.

Disagree, Roberts is palying with the same players but the difference is he has a workmanlike attitude. He is coming back and liknking with the midfielders and running into the spaces well.

Sealy is standing around ball watching and that's why he is rooted to the bench for the rest of the tournament. He played his first and last game in this cup.

but is it jus me...but i feelin it for Sealy...woulda like to see him in d side some more...tuff 1st game from what i heard...

Sealy has not done anything when he plays. His work rate is extremely poor. He deserves to be on the bench because if you look at Darryl Roberts he is workrate is far better. He does all the little things that coaches like to see their strikers do.

Seen himn play many times for the NT and its the same everytime. I was never impressed and actually thought he was overrated by many here. Ask yourself this question, why didn't he make the squad that was selected for Germany ::)

Sealy had a bad game against Barbados, that doesn't mean that's the end of his National career. A lot of our big players had a bad game or games. It just happened that Roberts is playing very well and Glagow is scoring so it doesn't make sense to sub them......Bailey is a type of plaer to run at defenders, this isn't Scott's game. So I don't think it's fair to write of Sealy because of one bad game. Cyd played like a boss in the WC, and what if had written him off after that shit he did in the WC. Most of us here know that Sealy could handle himself.

iT's not only in the Barbados game. He has been substandard for the most part when I've seen him play. Just stataing my opinion on his play and obviously the coach agreed because he said so in the post game interview and Sealy has been down the pecking order ever since. He will have a tough time even making the Gold Cup squad if Darryl Roberts continues to perform the way he has thus far.

Corneal keep talking about Osei Telesford should have been on the WC team.  No doubt he have the talent, but when Beenie came here in the middle of the qualifying tournament his goal was to try to qualify with the guys who were already on the team.  He didn't have the time to experiment and develop new players.  That is what Wim is doing  and should do as he still have a year before qualifying.  Further he has no choice because half of the last WC team will be too old or retired.  Beeenie did a great job with the players he was given and Wim will do a good job with the current crop.

You're correct Beenhakker was brought in to qualify for the WC and he was able to do so with the players he had and he did turn the fortunes around. He gets his respect for that, but the future starts now in this present day. That's why it's important to scout players all over the island and at various levels. The talent is there but it will take some time to nuture it. Again the coach and the technical staff is doing their work as we speak. You already heard the coach saying that he will still continue to look at other players which I think is positive because when WCQ rolls around you want the best players representing Trinidad and Tobago

Big up to di warriors. It just goes to show how this team has improved with every game they play. I remember after the Barbados game many people were down on this team claiming the players weren't that good and that Wim was overrated but I kept calm and I knew this team ould get it right and the naysayers would eat humble pie. You know who you are people. This team is not the best but it certainly isn't the worst either. This inexperienced team have beaten almost all of the teams that were better prepared going into this competition. Wim and the technical staff deserve some credit for preparing this team and taking them this far.

Warlord, I vey much agree with you.  I wrote the same thing on tis Forum last week when they were calling for Wim's head after one game in the tourney.  This is a young untested team with lot's of talent and a new coach who must be given time to get the team to adopt his philosophy.  I am with the Warriors all the way win or lose

Its good that you understand and see the point I'm trying to make. This Digicel Cup augurs well for the future of Warrriors football. I'm not saying that all these players will represent Trinidad but some of them definitely will.  I watched all the games via e-man's link and I thought Denzil Theobald played well as the defensive midfielder and he led as captain. He can be molded into that role for the future because he hardly gave the ball away. He was always coming back and winning the ball. He is a improved from what I saw in Germany in 2006. I think the keeper has had a good tournament so far and there's a few players like i don't know their names that I saw that played very well.

My point is this augurs well for the future. If this team can get more time together and get a few friendlies lined up then they will only get better. One or two creative midfielders and a solid centrehalf and this team as you see it can compete in Concacaf but the key to success is doing the background work this early which the coach and the technical staff is currently doing :applause: :applause:

Wim and the technical staff deserve some credit for preparing this team and taking them this far. They are now 1 game away from being crowned Caribbean champions for the 9th time and they deserve it.

This team has alot of positives and some negatives. The positives outweigh the negatives by far, but one thing of note is that the defence has conceded in every game which is a concern but not the end of the world. The technical staff nd the defensive players will get it right in due course so no big deal. It hasn't affected the warriors because  the firepower upfront and in midfield have done their jobs and have scored goals, but Haiti will study the defensive problems of the team, but they also have defensive problems of their own as well.

Now the other point is Scott Sealy. After watching the Barbados game where he was virtually non-existant and his work rate was poor, I said that he should get dropped for the Martinique game and I think the coach saw ahta i saw and he thought the same thing I was thinking.

Sealy got dropped and has been benched ever since which is a knock to his confidence but Roberts deserved to get his chance and he has taken it gracefully. I think Sealy will have a tough time getting back into the NT. He will have to fight his way back and if he really wants it he will do so but I was very disappointed in him. Not only in this tournament but in the past when he was called up, I didn't see anything special and his workrate was poor imho. I personally think he's overrated but othersmay disagree. Anyways I think its the end of his NT career unless he proves otherwise.

Now on to the final. I hope the defensive back four plays an exceptional game next Tuesday because I know the goals will come from the firepower upfront. Warriors time fi unnuh dun di place! :)

I don't think its the fickle fans as such. I think its down to the marketing aspect. If marketed properly the tournament would've been a success in terms of spectator support. If Jamaica hosted the finals we would have a huge turnout to the games. Digicel has to take some  of the blame but the TTFF is alot worse. They do nothing in terms of encouraging  public support and marketing the game.  If they worked in cahoots with the Pro-league, the league itself would have a much stronger support from the fans. The problem is the TTFF is very selfish and likes to operate as a separate entity instead of working with teams and communities.

Just my 0.02 cents TI. In Jamaica our schoolboy football ( Manning and DaCosta Cup) is heavily supported and even the NPL club teams are heavily supported as well. The JFF as well as Corporate Jamaica has been involved the marketing aspect and sponsorship deals for some of the club teams.

The TTFF has to play their part in helping to get fans to come out to games, but like i said they do nothing with the NT and clubs so this problem will continue for a very long time. They have to encourage the Corporate sector to get involved in Trinidad football at all levels and also work with the various leagues within the communites and even the pro-league.

completely agree. These players will not develop playing in the MLS.  I look at Cornell Glen for example and he is the same player that he's always been but has now become a journeyman. The MLS is not a good thing. I'd rather see them playing in the championship or anywhere in Sweden Norway than in the MLS. Shelton benefitted from playing for Helsingborg so Roberts could definitely improve if he went to Sweden.

Lard a mercy...MLS a good start? ??? How many Caribbean players you see play MLS and transfer to Europe? Just a few did. The MLS is not a good league for any Caribbean player to improve. For you to improve you have to be  playing against better players on a consistent basis. The MLS doesn't provide that option..... Unless you think that Landon Donovan is better than Darryl Roberts. I'd rather see them play in the CR or Guate Leagues which is alot better than the MLS.

completely agree. These players will not develop playing in the MLS.  I look at Cornell Glen for example and he is the same player that he's always been but has now become a journeyman. The MLS is not a good thing. I'd rather see them playing in the championship or anywhere in Sweden Norway than in the MLS.
