I am always impressed with CR's abiltiy to keep most of their talent in the country and maintain a high level of football..

That's because they have one of the strongest leagues in Central America. One of their biggest Clubs Saprissa is a feeder club for the NT.

Saprissa is definitely a big club.  Alajuela too.  very high standard of football in that league, and always thousands of fans.

There's also a few others that are big like Heredia and Puntarenas who was recently in some south American tournament and did well. CR has a strong league and it is very professional. Guatemala has the strongest league in Central America although their NT has not been nearly as successful as Costa Ricans.

Warlord, them chapines would love you for saying that.  Guatemala league has two good teams: Municipal and Communicaciones (Cremas).  That is it.  They rest are usually also rans.  The Costa Rica league is a solid league for the most part from almost top to bottom.  I personally like the Honduran league cause Olimpia is the king in dey.  And they is a big club too.

El Salvador's league is the pits.  One team in dey: FAS.

Out of all the leagues in Central America, the Guatemala league pays the best and is the strongest like I've mentioned before. The Guatemalans always do well in the UNCAF tournament. As a matter of fact, they beat  CR more than often its only in WCQ they've had problems.

Communicaciones at one time wanted to sign Arnold Dwarika and he turned them down. He was gonna be payed good money too.

Guys,

Keep in mind from Jan 7 to Jan 17 Haiti played five official games in 10 days. On top of it they play two training games on Jan 3 and 5. So that 's why the coach bench five starters (to rest and to avoid losing players due cartons accumulation). Now the goal is the $120K.4 me the coach makes the right decision.

Now hopefully see u in final for the round two. 1-0 for trinidad.

All di while yu deh deh a chat yu f**kery bout Jamaica and Trinidad should hold a seat cause a Haiti and Cuba time now. Now unnuh get f**kup from Trinidad and a peer excuse. Wha tek dis fool? :rotfl:

I have a question Why is it that top international clubs stop coming to Trinidad and Tobago? Is it because they get big money to go to the United States and Asia or we just stop inviting them to our island. With that said I meet the directors of Falkirk football club during the World Cup I ask him to bring his team to Trinidad he said that it would be too much money to travel all the way to Trinidad but it sound like a good idea
I say the Pro league should invite four international club during there summer brake for a mini tournament with four teams from the PFL  that way some off our players could get some exposures. Let meh say this I had a lot off ideas before if some off you remember my ideas for the PFL 4 years ago they now starting to implement them hopefully this could be done in the next two years only because this summer will be the Gold Cup.

So know lets say the PFL loves this ideas and wants to run with what teams should they invite to generate excitement among the T&T pubic

That's a very good idea. It should be in the summer when these teams are in preseason in England. I think that will help the Pro league to test themselves against some English/Scottish teams, but also a few teams from Spain, Germany, France and Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombian, and Mexican would be a good thing.

This should be done every year. Once marketed properly money could be made from it as well as the players getting exposure to different opposition, and who knows maybe some teams might sign a few players if they make an impact.

Soldier,

I go have to disagree with you on Bleeder.

I sorry but I write off your credibility in this thread with this one line yuh type here.

Quote
The World Cup is the highest level of football, and Theobald played well in all three games.  On defense, his attempts were more effective than the other defenders.

 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Breds there were two TT mysteries in the WC...the first one was why Latapy only get 20 min.
The second one was why Theobold get 270 min.

I have to admit, that was funny.  :D

My statement is not based on this single game:

I'm not sure how many of you saw the T&T vs. Martinique Digicel Caribbean Cup game last night, but one player definitely stood out from the rest - Densill Theobald. His passing, defensive tactics, technique, control and confidence expressed a level of superiority that is not yet possessed by any of the other players on the team. Quite frankly Densill Theobald is Premiership Material. Just a few out of order words cost him that in Scotland - it clearly had nothing to do with professional skill. There is no question that he should be this team's captain, and that he should continue to be featured in the senior team.

When I say 'Quite frankly Densill Theobald is Premiership Material.' I do not mean that his performance in this game makes him such, because he has had this skill long before - which is why he made the WC starting line up. My point is that the player is at an elevated technical level to his current colleagues and that this was exemplified within this particular game.

Either way, you have to be able to separate player analysis from a team analysis and acknowledge that the performance of the team is not an indication of the player's technical skill or understanding of the game.

Fella, you gotta be kiddin me?  We assemble a jokey squad to play in the Caribbean Cup and he may or may not be a class above.  However, there are several reasons why he can't handle the Premiership at this point in his career:

1.  His play is too slow
2.  He is just not physical enough
3.  I see everybody talking about vision and I yet to see it
4.  He is so low down the pecking order in terms of quality in Trinidad is a joke.

Just b/c the man make the WC squad don't mean a thing to the Premiership teams or any foreign team for that matter.

Be realistic on the forum.  The kid may be good but he eh that good!

Agree with a few of your points, but the biggest thing in the premiership is size and fitness. I think he's a decent defensive midfielder and after watching the barbados game, he has shown he has some ability to ba a better defensive mid. He is still young and can be molded in to that role by the time the WCQ rolls around. Remember Yorke was a striker and made the adjustment to defensiv mid in the qualifiers when he came back to the NT. Theobald has ability and I think Wim will help groom him in that position.

Nice to see di coach giving young players a bligh. This tournament is a stepping stone for the future of Warriors football and the more they play together the better.

The funny thing is after the Barbados game, many people were questioning the coach and players selection but its funny how a win puts everyone's minds at ease :)

Scott Sealy and Glasgow should be dropped from the starting lineup. He did absolutely squat in the Barbados match., and Glasgow unscores goals. Finishing is especially important in this game.

Dwayne Jack is not a bad player but his first touch is awful. He needs more than one touch to control the ball and that's a luxury international football doesn't allow you. On another note, I was not impressed with Scott Sealy...I think he's a bit overrated.

It's time for the Bajans to get creamed. Haiti is definitely going to send TnT a message come Monday. And I know that Martinique is really gonna come all out to win. The coach and players said that there won't be any room for errors against TnT or Barbados.

Haiti 3 Pts.
TnT 1 Pt
Barbados 1pt
Martinique 0 pt.

What message is Haiti gonna send Trini? ??? Trini a defend it fool. Haiti never win no Caribbean title yet. Trinidad =8, Jamaica = 3. even Martinique win one. Haiti, Cuba, Barbados NEVER YET.

So mi a ask yu a question....what message will Haiti send Trini? ;D

I say qualifying for the next stage would be acceptable. After that happen we can sort out a lot of things that is not going as planned. We have to be realistic about things. It's is going to be a tough tournament. In sports 90% of the game is played in the head, and a lot of the teams believe they can beat us so we cannot just sit back and say we are better. we have to know our strengths and our limitations and try to play to our strengths.

It could be easier but it's not, so lets try to support as much as we can.

I agree with this. Given the circumstances, qualifying for the next stage would be acceptable, because at least we would still qualify for the Gold Cup.

Doh get me wrong, I really hope we can go out there and fight and win the Digicel cup, but as long as we qualify for the Gold Cup there would at least be something positive from the experience. I think the gold Cup is another important step in the development of our football for the 2010 qualifying campaign, and without it, it would really set us back a lot

Disagree with you there. It's important for the Soca Warriors to win this Digicel Cup. After all it is at home and nothing less is acceptable!

Of course the Gold Cup is important and the ONLY guarantee of a Gold Cup berth is to win the damn tournament. There's a lot of pride and bragging rights here and teams like Haiti and Cuba never won a Caribbean cup title ever.

The top 4 teams from the digicel qualify for the gold cup, if i'm not mistaken. So as long as we make it out of the group stage we make it to the Gold Cup. Can anyone confirm this?

That is true but as a host the aim is to win. It doesn't matter if 4 teams qualify. The objective should be to win this tournament. Qualifiying for the GC as the 3rd or 4th best team is not an option. This is looking down the road at the future of Soca Warriors football. Remember that some of these players will get selected when WCQ rolls around so to gain experience, perform and succeed at this level and above is paramount.

Warlord, who said that the French invented carnival?
I don't think ppl believe that.  Who said that to you?

Many here previously indicated that the "french influence" in Trinidad and Tobago resulted in the birth of Carnival. That is simply NOT true. Not because you use the Terms Dimanche gras, Jouvert means that Carnival was French influenced. It is African and West African at that. ;)

No one said that.

What was said was that the existence of French names was evidence that the French made a contribution to TnT culture.

You are clearly dense. Our carnival and our people are hundreds years removed from Africa. If it were possible to transplant present or even past West African celebrations wholesale into TnT right now, it will not be Carnival.

When I show people from Africa what we do for Carnival dey eye does want to pop out their head because it is very different from what they do, despite the common origins of our Carnival, our Culture and theirs.

It has evolved from its initial origins which include Africa, Catholicism, Colonialsm (yes including the French), indigenous populations and the circumstances and history that brought us to the West Indies/Caribbean/ 10 deg N latitude.

Being Pan-Africanist and racially proud is great but if it is achieved by deliberately ignoring non-African elements that contribute to what we are then it is delusional and dishonest.

Not true. Several people have posted that earlier on in this thread but I'm too lazy to go back to the beginning. If anyone here its dense it probably you and a few others. You stated when you show people from Africa Carnival you claimn it's different....who are these people you speak of ? Africa is a big continent with many tribes and languages and cultures.

I refer to West Africa because that's where your slaves descended from. Take a look at this and you tell me if there isn't any similarity.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-NjXiuRECJg

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KQPUMLsECyI&mode=related&search=

If you don't see or hear any similarity with Trinidad and Tobago's music, dancing etc then you are in denial. It has been proven that these traditions and mannerisms were done in W. Africa yet you keep giving the white man credit for your culture.

You want to include the Church. What was the role of European colonists in New World. They didn't care about the Tainos, Arawaks or slaves theyr they use the Church(Christianity) to brainwash native indians and slaves to convert them to Christianity since they had no respect for native culture and traditions. That is the difference between the Caribbean and Central and South America.

That's why the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas culture is still evident today.

Hold  on! Who were the West-Africans who influenced Trini Carnival? Were they the ones remaining in West-Africa or those who were brought here as slaves and whose cultures merged with European and Amerindian cultures (Arawak, Tainos, Caribs etc) to become Afro-Caribbean? According to what some of you said in this forum, during the Haitian Revolution thousands of slaves and their masters migrated to TnT and others follow from other French colonies. Those are the people Warlord was talking about when he said TnT's culture had no connection with the French/Haitians. He unsuccesfully tried to prove that TnT's culture is more a product of Spanish culture than anything else when some of us here were simply pointing out similarities in TnT and French cultures. And now, he's defending the influence of West-African cultures in TnT?

Before you support somebody, you may want to first find out what that person is about. Make sure you also sign the 'teeth structuring' and 'head shapes' thesis he was working on in regard to the West-Africans.  ;)

By the way, what do West-Africans have in common with Warlord? His quote, "West-Africans have more similarities with you than someone like me" So, why is he using the West-African card now. He was cornered and was just looking for a way out. You probably are smarter than he is. Don't fall for that.

Thee comments you made are simply not true. If you're going to quote me, at least read all my post before you do so.
First point, I did state that Trinidad & Tobago probably has more ties to the Spanish because they were once colonised by Spain and that has been proven by Historians that Trinidad was in fact colonized by Spain and England and not France.

Secondly, I did identify that the French plantation owners and the slaves migrated from the french possessions in the Caribbean  but they were of W.African origin which explains why the traditions and cultures of Carnival had dominant traits of West African origin. I further proved my point by posting and excerpt from an author who indicated that the drumming, dancing stick fighting etc was done in West Africa in pre-lenten times b4 the coming of any European Colonisation watsoever. 8)

Many people here tried to rebuff my claiim, claiming that was French influenced which obviously was not the case. I proved that point.  Then I responded to one of your posts indicating that you had more in common with W.Africans more than me because of my composition. I indicated that you being Haitian obviously had more of the featues than someone like myself. That again was in comparison to you and me and was not a general view on everyone in Trinidad & Tobago so tell me what is wrong with that comparison?

I am not looking for way out. The facts are there for all to see. Carnival with the exception of the French words is pretty much predominantly W. African.  Go back and re-read the post where I gave you people proof of it. Triniman even had a few clips from you tube on Ghanian culture...go listen to it and you will see that there is quite a similarity in their music, drumming and other cultural mannerisms with that of what is demonstrated in Trinidad & Tobago's carnival.

Dont get me wrong guys, I am not pro Warlord, but if his point is that the term "French influence" depicts the European culture as being dominant or the "main player" in the development of Trinidadian culture, then I agree with him. But if his point is that there is no connection between Trinidad and the Afri-Francophone peoples in the Caribbean, then I disagree with him.

The latter statement was his original point. In fact the subject wasn't Carnival specifically but Trinidad Culture in general andwas been adamant that the French played no part. Carnival was just an example to show that the French had any influence at all. It obviously served Warlord's innane purposes to make that the subject.

Carnival is obviously the fruit of African as well as French culture and no one disputed that, the only one believing that it has one absolute origin was Warlord.

I prepared to let this one rest because it has now descened into a trollish pissing match.

once again you missed my point. It was in reference to Carnival it's culture and strong W. African tradition. That's why i poted that excerpt to let you people know that it existed before French/European colonialism and that is what happened in Trinidad & Tobago. The white man likes to claim everything when it serves a purpose to make him look good. You need to dig deeper man. Your history Carnival is what is.... A tradition of West Africa.

Even Triniman proved my point. Take a look at the clips of the similarity with Ghanaian drumming, music etc

no Trinidad and Tobago needs to win the Digicel Cup since it's being staged at home. It's not about just qualifyying for the Gold Cup...alot of pride is at stake. Remeber that the other teams are gearing up to try and beat Trinidad and they will be fired up so anything less than a title at home is not good. You have to aim high triniman.

However, while there are clearly Roman and French influences in the festivals of New Orleans, Rio, Trinidad, etc., the roots of these pre-Lenten festivals lie in Africa where, ironically, it had nothing to do with Lent at all.

JDB he's acually correct in this case.

That's exactly the point I was making but he still didn't get it. ::) The fact is the French has no influence watsoever in Brazil's Carnival yet it is very similar to TNT's

I think most people here are believing in "Baybylon system" as far as these Europeans are concerned.  But facts are facts and the culture and traditions are of W. African origins.

The next thing I'll probably hear from some is that Ska/Reggae was influenced by some European too  :rotfl:

What is similar in both T&T and Brazil is the dominant presence of the Catholic fate, which seems to be a recurring theme in most of the World's Carnivals.

BTW Ska/Reggae has quite alot of American influences. ;)

I think you got it wrong there. American hip hop was influenced by Jamaican ska/reggaemusic. The evolution of hip hop started in NY in late 60's with DJ's trying to rap (talk fast) over a beat which is founded from our dancehall/ska reggae. Jamaican DJ's were doing this long b4 anyone else in the world.

If you like I could post you a full article on how we influenced Hip Hop/Rap in America.

warlord ska has american influences ska came about when they mixed the mento with the american R&b

Not true. Hip Hop and Rap was influenced by our music. Reggae has never had any influence from the US. Check the history of Ska, Reagge/Dancehall and you will see for yourself. Of course I can always post an article if you like.
