RIP Weary.  Condolences to her family.

While I never met her, always enjoyed reading her posts.  She gave back to the community with the WN holiday food drive and I am sure she did a lot more than we were not aware of.

She got into some spirited conversations with people on this forum but she was always respectful.

Gone too soon.

The end of Hart & Russia 2018 campaign. Unscrupulous characters on the coaching staff and on the playing team

Yeah looks like Hart will be liming with Klinsman very soon.

No Hudson. Hope his father is happy.
No Pappy.  Hope that Premier Division title was worth it.
Nice to see Lammy got called up.  Talented guy but needs to be more consistent.
Surprised Lee from Naps was not called up.

65
I agree that talent alone is not enough but if it did exist our guys would at least be dominating the MLS and Caribbean opposition.

66
I keep reading we have more talent but we can't beat Martnique. Our players playing in the lower divisions while other teams have players playing Champions League football.  I guess those big teams real hate Trini players or they can't identify talent.

Most of them if not all belong to clubs as well (don't know if Denzil Smith is attached to a club).  W Connection (Cupid, Hudson), Central FC (Riley), St Anns Rangers (St Hillaire, Lansiquot ), North East Stars (Sandy), Jabloteh (Brice), etc.

TM, see if yuh could pull this stat: the record between Eve and Cooper at SSFL level.

I know since the Premier Division start, Naps unbeaten against Pres.  While all teams import players, Naps going overboard then Eve talking about he developing talent.  SSFL is simply about winning, no wonder our national youth teams are in a mess.

internationally, your trini accent most go cuz they wouldn't understand u so u need to slow it down

you can speak slower without changing your accent.  People choose to lose their accent aka change their accent.

What about Track & Field / Re: The Golden Boy Keshorn Walcott Thread
« on: August 21, 2016, 02:17:34 PM »
I am going to make a bold prediction from now!!
Keshorn Walcott provided that he remains fit and keeps improving is going to be our first three times Olympic medallist at three separate Olympic games, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Also I expect Keshorn to medal at London 2017 World Champs provided he remains injury free. This will prove his consistency and make him one of the most respected Javelin throwers in the world in this new Javelin era where Black Javelin throwers start changing the mainly European domination of the sport.

Hopefully by next year Shakeil Waithe will also become a regular 83m plus Javelin thrower and will also be able to join Keshorn Walcott at upcoming World Championships and Olympic Finals.

In fact by Tokyo 2020 we could possibly have 3 Javelin throwers Keshorn Walcott, Shakeil Waithe and Tyriq Horsford (who will be 20 by 2020) in the Olympic Men's Javelin Final and become like Finland and Germany who are both regularly able to qualify up to 3 world class Javelin throwers to the Olympic Finals.   8)

yeah we have good young talent in javelin

As a Brazil fan I thought I would never see an Olympic win.  As for Germany, their future looks bright.  The youths from the Olympic team plus the current senior players can be dominant for a while.  Hopefully this gold medal will instill some confidence back in Brazil football.  It will not fix the other issues but Tite is a good coach so things should be better than the Dunga regime.

What happened with Botswana?????
Botswana put their 2 fastest men in 1 and 2, then some average fellas to finish up.
They didn't run Thebe (44.22 this year), nor Nijel Amos (800m) who runs 45.5 and splits 44 mid, which would have put them in a strong gold-medal position.

The silver and bronze times would have been bettered by TTO's NR performance in last year's world championships; wasted opportunity; we continue to throw away plattered opportunities.

throw away indeed.  this was the big disappointment for me with TTO squad but stuff happens.  I am sure those guys will never make that mistake again.

No seen RM, in recent history, the foll would apply: DY (man u), RL (porto), Marv (rangers) and Shaka (newcastle, west ham). All winning accolades with their resp high profile clubs at the height of their careers, honorable mention for KJ...we agree on the most important thing though, we need to be more serious across the board re-investment in sport.

Next up, Levii

I would agree on Latas, Yorke and Shaka.  Levis is next up as you said.

2016 was our worst Olympic performance because we won only 1 medal and our athletes qualified for 7 finals (javelin, shot put, M400, W100, W200, M4x100, W4x100).  MLA and Dylan Carter set national records.

Compare this to pre 1948, 1956, 1968, 1972, 1980-1992, (no medals) and even 2004 (1 bronze medal), 2016 was our worst Olympics.  Trinis not easy.

77
Jason 23,

I understand what you saying but you missing my point.  Yeah branding and all that good stuff can improve the situation but trinis in general only want to support winners.  When I talk about support, I referring to athletes not NAAA.  A lot of our best  T&F athletes leave the sport at an early age to play football.  yes great marketing of high school T&F will help, the yardies do a great job.  my point is we need to stop waiting on the lame ass admins to take the first step.  we as a people need to take the first step.  if you think my argument still lame well we will talk in 20 years and have the same conversation.

Good pts RM

Qu: what exactly is the football equivalent of winning an individual gold medal at world's or Olympics?

Good question.  It is not an apples to apples comparison.  Just like comparing Bolt's medal count to Phelps is not apples to apples.  Swimmers have the opportunity to win more medals in a single games because in general they can participate in more events than a T&F athlete.

To answer your question, there is only one world cup title to be won every 4 years compared to more medals to be won by a T&F athlete. One is a team sport while the other is individual.

My guess would be a world cup quarterfinal would equivalent to a medal. So a semis might be equivalent to the gold medal.  Your question is a difficult one to answer.  However, in regards to Trinidad success on a global level the answer is clear that we are more successful in T&F compared to football.

We have only qualified for one world cup yet we criticize MLA for being the 6th fasted in the world in 100m and 200m.  Can anyone here on the forum say they are the 6th best in the world within any aspect in their life?

Let's say we all work in oil & gas, so the equivalent of T&F events would be job functions or job titles: drilling engineer, reservoir engineer, chemical engineer, IT manager, supply chain manager, finance manager, etc.  Can any of us claim to be the 6th best in the world in our respective professions?

Highlighted some bold pieces, but 1st off, congrats to athletes who showing promise for the future (MLA, MC, KW (congrats Keshorn!  :beermug:), KSF), to those who repped us well and winding down, many thanks.

Highlighted the bold b/c you really cannot do the comparison.  Football is a team sport and for the most part T&F is individual, 4x considerations are still not apples-apples. Likewise, there is no individual competition for forwards, MFs, defenders, keepers. At one time in recent history, we have had household names in each of those positions playing for highly reputable clubs and winning major WW/major titles with their respective clubs.  This to me evens the playing field wrt our accomplishments in T&F and Football, IMO.  I think JA for sure can can say their T&F accomplishments exceed those in football; I wouldn't say so for us.

That said, our investment in sport and proper structure across the board is a no brainer, much has been said about this here before.  Only hope we get it together in my lifetime to see some growth and achievement of true potential in the not too distant future

I respect your opinion but I disagree.  how many world class football players we have?

79
Jason I agree, time to get rid of some of those board members. With this type of poor performance, other serious countries will replace the President one time!

Sorry to disappoint you but those board members are not going anywhere which is unfortunate.  The problem is not only the administration.  They are terrible as hell but most of the fans are just as bad.

The first step is for the "fans" to get their @$$ up from the couch and start attending track meets.  It real funny we have the majority of the population on FB talking like experts and criticizing the athletes but when you go a track meet in Trinidad the attendance is in the hundreds.  You ever saw a track meet in Jamaica?  The atmosphere makes the Olympics look soft.

Forumites keep posting about our performance deteriorating at the Carifta Games, are any of you going to the Carifta Games to support the kids?  Are you going to National Secondary Schools T&F Championships?  Are you going to sports day for your alma mater?  Are you going to the Southern Games?  Until you can answer yes to most of those questions you are a big part of the problem.

Young kids in Trini play football more than run track because of the support youth football receive (plus they pull more girls in football compared to track).  So guess what happens?  The better athletes end up playing football versus track and field.  Yet we have been more successful in track and field compared to football.

my friend, im sorry but that response is totally irrelevant!! answer me this? if 10,000 people come every meet in Trinidad an Tobago TnF  for 10yrs, straight?? is it going to make tnt world beaters????come on lets be serious. everything starts from the head.....how the hell you want people to go to meets and support anything when half the time you doh even know it have a meet. yet when u go is some kinda bacchanal. look its stupid to even think that what you saying is Justification for or will be a super Reason of Answers to TnF problems.!! perfect eg" look at SSFL all that crowd and alma mata who going games and supporting.. where are we on the World Stage in Football??? are we World beaters?? come on . stop using uh emotions!!! and a next perfect eg of People in Administration in TnT is grand Games.?? where is it??? ah see it was a Boss Event , seeing that it was cancelled for a After party instead....and i could go on an on. and on........look lets be real....if your the head of the Table. then lead by example. set Procedures and follow through.start Developing Talent that will make people say wow.. i need to come see this guy run... Start Organizing or work in Conjunction with UTT and start a Track and Field Coaching program!! Start going to communities and scouting not only athletes, but people with brains to Elevate the sport through there own Unique way of Coaching while still following a National pathway!! etc and based all of this in conjunction with the communities they are based in and make the community and integral part....make people feel apart instead of expecting them to come an smile kiddy kiddy skin teeth and say take me money ah come 2 support u even doh ah seeing shit non stop for how much decades of sports run in this country!! i for one will not bash the athletes i will stick with the head, cause its the head that charts the coarse, if the head is dead, don't expect the body to function and life.simple. facts of life.!!

I not disagreeing that it starts with the administration. our admin stinks.

you think T&F athletes feel the love from fans early in their careers? do you think they get support? most ppl support them after they win a medal.

how you don't know it have a meet?  all the meets listed on www.ttnaaa.org.  just ah lame ass excuse.  anyway, don't go ah damn meet and let athletes run in front of empty stadiums, that is very motivating.

we are not world beaters in football because we lack talent regardless of what we like to fool ourselves in believing.  we have more talent in T&F than football, just we cant recognize it like the Jamaicans, we cant be organized like the Jamaicans, etc.

Does Bolt really need to call it quits?

Yes, go out on top.  Kim is competitive to a certain degree but he not winning medals.  Bolt wants to win not make semis or finals 4-5 years from now.

Look how America is dominating the medal table in Track and Field despite all that hate they receive (mostly from Jamaicans). Their mental toughness is sound and solid. We should learn from them
.

I don't think it is hate with yardies.  It is more pride and competitiveness.  You will find haters wherever you go but in general I don't think it is hate in this case.

I have seen the most disgusting comments. For the most part the average American do not follow Track to the extent of the average Jamaican or hold a sentimental value to the sport as Jamaicans, so you don't see a similar response in hate or most times not much backlash to the hate.
.

Yeah they don't follow the sport like yardies but that don't stop them from being experts right now.  What might be driving the "hate" from yardies is the poor coverage.  Of course the commentators are pro US but they always big up Bolt but then always state he has less medals than Phelps.  When Phelps is swimming they don't talk about Bolt winning every Olympic final he has participated in, a claim Phelps cannot make.  So I am not saying I agree with the disgusting comments but Americans are just as guilty so my approach is to not read any comments. Stupidiy can be contagious at times.

What about Track & Field / Re: Fire Ato Boldon Thread
« on: August 20, 2016, 10:36:18 AM »
I already know it will be a battle for Ato to get what's needed. Any other country would welcome his expertise and do their best to meet whatever Ato asks for. This thing with "waiting to see" as opposed to being more proactive with the development of TF is and will always be a feature of TT track. We went from having the best Olympics in 2012 to what might be the worst.

Compared to 2012 yeah less  medals. 2012 was better than 2016 but I wouldnt say worst. You know your T&F and you disappointed like me and others but I think your comment that 2016 might be the worst is harsh.

I watching Olympics since 1984 and we use to suck salt real hardcore except for the one 4th place we would get (Gene Samuel, Ian Morris) until Ato showed up.  And Ato dropped out the sky and landed in our laps.

This Olympics we had athletes in the finals for w100, w200, M4x1,W4x1, javelin, shot put,M400.  7 finals compared the previous 1 final prior to Ato and after the Mottley era.

Did we prepare well and support the athletes?  Were they fit? (Jehue, Lendore, etc.).  I am slightly disappointed but you get what you put in.  Our administrators and "fans" are piss poor so we cant complain.  Last Olympics we outperformed our preparation and this year we couldn't plus lots of ppl/countries stepped up their game.

Look at Japan, the M4x1 relay came up from the youth championships and trained for 6 months this year.  I am sure our relay team spent time max one month together (pre games camp and actual games)

Cedenio will be a future 400m champion.

89
Perspective:
Cedenio's NR 0f 44.01 would have medalled in every other Olympic Games 400m final in history.

In many it would have garnered gold or silver, and in all except this one, at least bronze.

He moved from 46th (44.34) to 15th fastest 400m performer ever.

Only Jeremy Wariner (44.00); Larry James (43.97); Kirani James (43.94); and Steve Lewis (43.87) have run faster before turning 21 (Cedenio will be 21 in September) - all are Olympic champions except Larry James an Olympic silver medallist. Nice company and great signs for his future.

Good perspective.  I am really proud of him.  He chased after 3 giants of the 400m.

Well done Machel.  Keep it up.  You are heading in the right direction.

As for WVN, biggest talent in track and field since Bolt.  This guy is pure greatness.  He ran 43.03 and looks like he can go a lot faster.  The amazing thing is he did that in lane 8.

Well done Michelle, you represented the country well :beermug:

really proud of her especially with all the injury problems over the years.  7 women run sub 11, what a race.
Semoy looked decent in her semis.  I have more confidence in the women 4x100 relay chances now.
