jareem Richards  on that second leg  all we need now is Jonathan farina back

Isn't Farinha a 100/200 runner?

and he used to run the 4x4 relay

ok..i think he should be focusing on helping our 4x1 relay become competitive again. we have a lot of 400 talent so hopefully a few of those guys can step up soon.

So what about our women? They need help the most.

never said the women didn't need help.  track and field need help in general.

we need to get a relay coach and better facilities.

63
socapro you really feel we have the leg speed for the men's relay team?  the 2 fastest guys are 10.25

team eliminated early in tournament so Latas could have given everyone a chance to sweat and get experience.

We need a fit Deon Lendore as well to strengthen the pool for 2019. By Tokyo, Lalonde Gordon will be past his prime and we won not because of, but in spite of Jarrin Solomon.

I would not underestimate Lalonde for 2019 and 2020.  Although he will be 30/31, I would not be surprised if he is at least capable of being a solid relay contributor.  30/31 is "old" for a sprinter but he runs with bad mind which is what more of our athletes need to do.  Quow will be 31/32 as well.  I agree Lendore needs get back in form plus other youths need to step up to the next level.  The youth pool has talent such as St Clair, Kashief King, Theon Lewis, Onal Mitchell,Judah Taylor,Asa Guevera, Zidane Martin, etc.  We cant end up in the same situation as the men 4x100 where there is no one stepping up to replace Torpedo, Beldman, etc.

I was worried after reading some comments from Solomon o FB about team selection.  Then was surprised he was the pop off leg.  He ran a solid leg and kept us in the race.  Then Jereem put us in 2nd place. Cedenio fell off but recovered at the end of his leg to close the gap on the Us and Lalonde "Big Race" Gordon ran the best anchor I have ever seen from a Trini runner.

Congrats fellahs. Most of you had average seasons but came together as a team to make the country proud.

Watch the NAAA take credit now.

What about Track & Field / Re: Coincidence or a Deeper Problem?
« on: August 11, 2017, 09:54:48 AM »
Over the recent years, Trinidad and Tobago has produced a lot of top class juniors. Many seem to suffer injuries that hamstring (no pun intended) their careers and flounder after early promise - Getting to finals, maybe getting a medal, and all but disappearing altogether, or showing little improvement as they mature.  There are exceptions of course, but the list of consistent performers, multiple finalists or medalists are few. I know that we are a small country with a limited pool of talent, but from my fan vantage point, my national pride is deeply hurt when I see our promising athletes unable to maintain good performances but for one or two seasons. The reasons may range from: They have suffered severe injuries; or because ill-advised coaching changes have inhibited their development; younger competitors have surpassed them making it more difficult for them to overcome.  Is there an underlying problem? Here is a short list of names, and you can add to the list.  I will leave it up to you, the fans, to comment, make suggestions, or draw conclusions:
Richard Thompson - silver in Beijing, then not much
Darrel Brown - World youth star and nothing since
Mark Burns - Youth potential never translating to anticipated senior success
Jehue Gordon - after securing gold in 2013, its been down hill
Marcel Cedenio - any hope with the emerging 400 talent? What happened to the kick?
Deon Lendore - except for his college exploits, the path now does not look good
Mark London - double CARIFTA junior champion. Not heard of since.

Meanwhile, I applaud our consistent performers, past and present: Ato Boldon (definitely our most consistent performer), Cleopatra Borel-Brown, Keshorn Walcott, Lalonde Gordon, Renny Quow
You can add to both lists.

jehue had injuries and changed coaches.
cedenio had injuries
Darrel brown numerous injuries
burns while no individual medals has been very consistent (regular finalist and played major roles in the relay teams success)
Richard did well until the injuries/car accident.  I think his lack of running the 200 impacted his success as well.

lendore had injuries. probably from extra heavy college schedule
London never did much outside of carifta.
renny quow cant be consider more considered than Burns IMO.

Ato has been the most consistent athlete and I cant recall him not handling his injuries well. as GOP said our guys are not handled well.  That is the big difference between them and Ato.

seems like Keshorn team is doing a good job handling his injuries.  He is very consistent.

I will add MLA and KAB to the consistent list.

General theme is good job of handling injuries = more consistent
poor handling = less consistency

Then you throw the lack of support and poor administration, it is a miracle we make a lot of finals and even win some medals.

What about Track & Field / Re: Jereem Richards breaks Boldon's record
« on: August 11, 2017, 08:40:11 AM »
It appears that Keshorn is in the final. Fingers crossed. We taking any medal!

And he look damn good. Looks like he in the shape of his life. One throw to get into the finals. Others needed to throw more than once.

Dem German scarin meh doh, throwin over 90 like dey on de moon.  Anyway, best of luck to de man come Saturday  :beermug:

Big up to de Point yute, congrats Jereem!

Vetter on fire and Kohler having a good season.  The other German Hoffman is a big threat too.  Plus you can't rule out Yego, Frydrych and Pitkamaki. I think Keshorn can challenge for medal if he can throw over 90.  looks to be in form now after struggling most of the season.  All it takes is one throw.

200 final should be very competitive. Jereem in form, makwala running angry, WVN tired but talented, the 2 Americans not under pressure and Mitchell-blake quietly running good. guliyev won both is races thus far.

this world championship has been full of surprises so far.

Jereem is looking great.  Wish him the best in the final. The weather giving trouble though.

Worlds starts tomorrow. Nobody saying anything.

The only thing to say.. We MIGHT win a medal. I hope that I'm proved wrong.

the bandwaggonists should start appearing today talking about the athletes are $hit, etc.
I hope you are wrong too but things looking bleak.  Keshorn struggling, Cedenio dealing with injuries and the 400m men race will be fire (sub 44 to medal).
MLA should make finals in 100 and 200. 4x1 women, 4 x 4 men, Jereem (200) and Keshorn should also make finals.  Hopefully they will surprise us.

I supporting my team through thick and thin. I'm a realist though. Things look very bleak. Any accomplishment made by the athletes is by their own strength. The administration does very little to support.

Administration is piss poor as usual but talking about we could win 4 medals.

If you willing to pay that amount for a player, then that is going rate. That is the "stupidity" of economics. Take it or leave it.

yeah it is all about market price. although Neymar can be considered overprice that it the going rate now.  As you said take it or leave it.  teams trying to win will take it.  look at Mbappe, got talent but not much of  along track record can probably cost as much as Neymar if Real willing to pay.

Overprice

players overpriced for a while now.  Pogba is another example.

RIP Weary.  Condolences to her family.

While I never met her, always enjoyed reading her posts.  She gave back to the community with the WN holiday food drive and I am sure she did a lot more than we were not aware of.

She got into some spirited conversations with people on this forum but she was always respectful.

Gone too soon.

No Hudson. Hope his father is happy.
No Pappy.  Hope that Premier Division title was worth it.
Nice to see Lammy got called up.  Talented guy but needs to be more consistent.
Surprised Lee from Naps was not called up.

84
I agree that talent alone is not enough but if it did exist our guys would at least be dominating the MLS and Caribbean opposition.

85
I keep reading we have more talent but we can't beat Martnique. Our players playing in the lower divisions while other teams have players playing Champions League football.  I guess those big teams real hate Trini players or they can't identify talent.

Most of them if not all belong to clubs as well (don't know if Denzil Smith is attached to a club).  W Connection (Cupid, Hudson), Central FC (Riley), St Anns Rangers (St Hillaire, Lansiquot ), North East Stars (Sandy), Jabloteh (Brice), etc.

TM, see if yuh could pull this stat: the record between Eve and Cooper at SSFL level.

I know since the Premier Division start, Naps unbeaten against Pres.  While all teams import players, Naps going overboard then Eve talking about he developing talent.  SSFL is simply about winning, no wonder our national youth teams are in a mess.

internationally, your trini accent most go cuz they wouldn't understand u so u need to slow it down

you can speak slower without changing your accent.  People choose to lose their accent aka change their accent.
