Winchester hat trick vs Point (from 34 secs...but check the Connection goal around 30 secs!)

http://www.tv6tnt.com/sevenpm-news/---PRO-LEAGUE-MATCHDAY-FOUR-2506----229021861.html

I remember watching that on news too. My actual favourite clip was the goal line clearance at the end. Must be the defender in me.  ;D

I prefer to pay $75, especially since I trying to encourage some non-football fans to come lime. The early weather forecasts say isolated showers. I feel I'll wait until Monday to buy my ticket. I doubt they will sell out.

He's a good player by accounts and will probably add value. I think it is good for the TTFA to have asked the question to him. Haven't we complained in the past about being short on quality? So they are checking to ensure that all the quality options are being explored. Might as well let de Leon know that he has options and that his potential contribution has value. He made a decision, probably a smart one, and we can move on from that. Maybe he'll be ready later on and the opportunity is still open, maybe not.

KARMA

Karma not changing the Big 5 result, but for me I think it proves that sport mirrors life and in life some days you are fortunate and some days not. Some days you will win and some days you will lose. There is no guarantee that CIC will make the finals either since they have to play Fatima and then the winner of St. Anthony's and Mucurapo East. That's just the north zone.  ;D

Football / Re: Just what T&T needs: hooliganism.
« on: November 13, 2013, 05:53:45 PM »

You seriously asking what the "crime"?  You don't think confronting the ref in such a manner as to prompt police action is suggestive of a protest that went overboard?

Pres cops Big-Five title, St Augustine takes girls’ equivalent.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

...The match took a halt as officials of St Mary’s College protested in unison, questioning both the referee and his assistant. They, including a furious head coach Jason Edwards and assistant Ryan Shim, were sent to the stands.

The end of the fixture brought jubilation to the hundreds of Presentation supporters, but it also brought a flock of players and football staff of St Mary’s to the faces of the referees, prompting police action. One police officer pulled out a baton, while a St Mary’s player questioned the official.

Quote
while a St Mary’s player questioned the official
You are making my point for me. Again I ask, what is the crime? Questioning the officials? You have not named something a CIC player (or member of the technical staff) did that warranted being labelled a crime. Isn't the official's hand in the CIC player's face in that picture? All that quotation states is that there was police involvement, it does not show that this involvement was even necessary. I might even argue that the police involvement made the situation worse, but that's a debatable position. Besides, that's not even my point, because I am neither excusing nor defending the Saints reaction to the ref. I am questioning the accuracy of the picture painted by the writer and also his intentions in writing his article this way. Making an "example" of the CIC players for the actions of players in the US, Germany or Spain will not address the problems we face in T&T. If there is behaviour to deal with, then let us deal with that. We can't solve Europe's problems for them and it is unfair to penalise the CIC team for someone else's behaviour.

Again I ask, coming off of the controversial goal you now have a match ended after 3 minutes added on instead of the expected 5. What is the expected response from these boys? If different, what is the acceptable one?

Act immediately by doing what though? My problem with his article, and maybe I'm being a bit defensive, is his description paints a picture of an unruly and unrestrained mob. Unsavory as the behavior was I find his description exaggerated and misleading. If we are really seeking improvement shouldn't we approach matters like these as dispassionately as possible? These weren't a bunch of hooligans fighting and destroying all in their path. What was the crime? Not accepting medals? At worse that is poor sportsmanship. Besides the verbal abuse and an unsightly physical display (by the coach) what did the CIC boys do to have this man condemn them so severely? The spectators? Saving the worst for last, the technical staff?

If we are truly interested in improving discipline at sporting events then the first thing is to calm down on this post-match witch hunt. We also need to be a bit more understanding so that when the corrective action is being taken it will be measured and reasonable rather than just punitive. We are not talking about someone forgetting to put up a sign or was some other way careless, we are looking at a reaction to perceived unfairness. What then is an appropriate response in that situation? That should be made clear because they aren't the first team to feel cheated by a ref's decision and they won't be the last. How do we impress upon them that sport, the great imitator of life, is going to have disappointment and what marks true character is our response to it? That is no small task because I don't know where you can find a practical example in football to show these young men how they should have dealt with the ref's decision.

This man's job simply ensures that his point will be well stated. It doesn't make it reasonable or balanced, which it's not.

38
Imagine this was a game Central did not want to play because of unfair conditions, conditions that would give them a disadvantage, they controled/dominated the game.

Makes you wonder what would have happened at a neutral venue.

39
I agree with Coops. If we're doing a testimonial then do that. This is an international friendly. Their ability to contribute is immaterial since they won't be expected to contribute in the future. There are 2 players who will not get an opportunity to show their worth in an international when there are no points at stake.

On another note, any word yet on ticket prices and outlets?

You doh fedup talk shit?  Players have no business crowding the ref... that shit needs to stop on all levels, all the way up the the Premier League.  Bad example set by the CIC coaching staff and the players just fed off of that.  Coupled with the fact that there was no one on the sideline to control them.  Police do the right thing.

It is not the job of the TT Police to fix all of football's discipline problems. The police officer's action was similar to trying to out a fire with gasoline. It is easy to be overly critical when it is not your blood, sweat and emotion invested. I agree that at least one of the coaching staff should have attempted to remove the boys from surrounding the referee, but that does not excuse the inflammatory manner in which the police dealt with that situation. Using aggression and intimidation to stop aggression and intimidation? I'm sure we can come up with something better.

Too many variables to consider to give a definitive answer. Employee policies: CARICOM CSME rules, players outside of CARICOM, youth development programmes, etc. Funding and sponsorship. Suitable venues that won't cancel matches every time the government feels like putting on another event. What would be the impact of these factors on our Pro League?

I don't see this being the answer to improving football in the region, but with proper planning who can tell?

Saw some highlights on TV6 earlier. Highlights hardly tell the story of the match, but the penalty looked a good call. For the Pres second I was not convinced that the entire ball crossed the line, but the camera angle can hardly be relied on to dispute the ref's decision. The forward definitely nudged the keeper into the goal and not after he'd entered it, like a couple guys reported here. Interestingly, neither the forward (Henry?) nor another player at the edge of the camera appealed or looked interested in what the keeper did. This also is being taken with the understanding that it proves nothing.

The coach's reaction was understandable, even if it was a good one. The police response was volatile and symptomatic of our backward police service. One in particular rushed in and initiated contact with the coach and players at a time when they were being vocal, having lost in controversial circumstances, but not threatening (at least not based on body language, who knows what he was saying). He then pushed away CIC players who were being even less demonstrative. This alone could have been enough to make an emotional situation turn violent. He then later was shown to have pulled a baton, again when none of the players were looking likely to be a physical threat. It seemed, and I obviously can't tell for certain based on what I saw, that his response was because they weren't listening to whatever it was he was saying (based on the accompanying gestures it looked like he was telling them to move away). It was like watching someone trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

At any rate, congratulations to Presentation on winning the Big 5.

I'm hearing that the final is at 5:00 pm at Skinner's Park. Can anyone confirm this?

that would be horrible... Hasley Crawford should be the venue for a massive final like this... at least in a stadium, to go and put it on some bad grass field with poor seating for fans...hope that is not true

The latest I've heard is Ato Boldon. Still awaiting some official word or news release.

Tried to go to the game, but left town late and was stuck in traffic. It was difficult following the commentary on radio. Ruskin Mark was horrible. Didn't update the time gone in the match, didn't update the scores regularly (we tuned in late and had to wait almost 10 minutes for the score update) and didn't describe the action with any detail. We're so accustomed to tv commentary these days that radio commentators forget that their audience cannot see what is happening so they need to be more descriptive and give updates more regularly.

Sometime in the past someone started an Abu Bakr tread inquiring about his game and what we forumites thought about it. I made a pretty offhanded comment about this young man's game( ah call de man ah shithound)  having only seen him play a handful of times. I would like to issue a formal apology to this young man. I must say that after watching his highlight reel I have to admit that his game has improved dramatically. He positions himself well. He distributes the ball well from the back and most importantly(for me at least) he plays with heart.
I get the impression that he really wants to be the best he can be at that position and he makes a great replacement for Tallest.
All the best to you homeboy. Keep improving. :beermug:

I'm still uncertain about him against fast, agile players, but I agree that he has improved significantly.

Best in terms of what? Their individual success or as a unit? Team results or their ability to entertain the people in the stands? Given our success as a nation I find this a very open ended question and the discussion we've seen proves it. I too would wait to see them play more matches before starting to class them as the best, but they are definitely the best we've seen in recent times (5 or so years). Again, this is keeping in mind that they've not been around all that long.

Life and by extension, cricket, was really different "back in the day". It is interesting to read about the deeds of legends gone by and I wonder how this current group of cricketers will be remembered 50 years from now.

The errors from Warner’s camp continued straight to the close and only emboldened me. So many people seem to get by on bluster in Trinidad and Tobago; perhaps I could hold my own with little more than common sense and integrity.

I think this line sums up the culture in this country exactly. Little substance and even less strength of character and common sense to stand up to it. Brad Boyce, Bas Panday, Ferguson and Galbaransingh , Warner and that boy who stabbed the doubles vendor on Cipriani Blvd. are also examples of a culture fault, where the people of means refuse to accept and face the consequences of their actions. Keep up the fight Lasana.

not saying he is right.........but sometimes there is someone to blame........can't put al that trust in a employer.........look at all the stuff that is coming out now with the mighty NFL with how they approached concussions over the years and now with the settlement all their dirty laundry will most likely be covered up forever..........it is imperative to still have the conversation as to why this young man is in this situation

I would not suggest without more information that the club is or is not responsible. I was simply pointing out that I don't think Stern has any additional information either, so his comments are inflammatory at worse and just plain silly at best. Either way it serves no purpose than to upset a couple people unnecessarily. The stuff that came out of the NFL's treatment of players came after years of research and is based on something concrete. Unless Stern can produce similar research then...

Football / Re: Stern John concerned about testing.
« on: October 13, 2013, 01:30:38 PM »
When is a good time to raise questions?  Stern is a well travelled pro footballer and just maybe due to his experiences all over with different clubs it's ok to raise certain questions..........especially when the fire hot.........

I listened to his interview and he didn't base it on anything of substance. He just felt that the appropriate thing was to make someone to blame. Sometimes these things happen, even after medicals. Italy has one of the most rigorous medical tests for footballers yet they too have had athletes suffer heart attacks.

That is not the point whether the space is being used by the management . It is FOR the management. It is a matter of policy and principle ! It can only be temporary ! A government must be even handed in dealing with sporting bodies. Polices must apply across the board!

When was that established as facility management space? This is official policy that can be easily referred to? I ask, not to be difficult, but to get a better understanding of why office space in the HCS would have such a narrow purpose.

Maybe I am a bit soft on the issue, but I find immediate/automatic dismissal for playing in the minor-league is harsh. Especially if it is a first time situation. What ever happened to fines and suspensions? Perhaps some mandatory lecture on why it is such a big deal to play minor league ball in the first place can better help the player. Why are we so heavy handed when dealing with discipline? At some point we have to consider more sophisticated tools when trying to develop a product and the players are an integral part of that product.

This should be at most a temporary arrangements until the TTFA gets out of the red! The stadium offices should be used For  the management of the facility. Once a precedence is set for any long term arrangement , every sporting body could request the same consideration. More information on the terms is required before bigging  up anyone!

Have they taken office space that would otherwise have been used for management of the facility?
