Leyton Orient coach bars team from playing FIFA 14 on match days
October 9th, 2013

As far as excuses for a drop in performance go, this one should be top of the list.

English football league club Leyton Orient are flying high at the top of the third division in the country. With eight wins from their first eight games, two draws from their next two has left their manager angry, despite their unexpected lofty league position.

After such a brilliant start, you can surely forgive the players for slacking off a little?

Not Orient though. Their reaction to slump? They’ve banned players from playing FIFA 14 on the Playstation 3 in the club’s new team bus.

In a bid to improve his players’ concentration levels, boss Russell Slade has moved quickly to ban the game being played on match days, citing the following reason: “several hours playing football on a video game is not conducive to a good performance in the real thing.”

Orient’s communications manager Johnny Davies told British newspaper The Independent:

“The coach boasts a fold-out massage table, a coffee machine and Sky TV, but the most exciting thing for the players was a PlayStation 3.

“For the majority of the trip the lads, led by Lloyd James, got stuck into the new FIFA 14 game and at times even played as themselves against Oldham in preparation for the match the following day.”

And if the whole scenario wasn’t silly enough, as Leyton Orient’s main sponsor, FIFA 14’s logo adorns the team’s kits.

Very nice I admire his maturity and seriousness towards the game, we need a similar attitude from more of our players.. Keep it up kevin  :beermug:

Excellent points there flex i would like to add my 2 cents. Why hasnt Mr.Roberts who claimed to care about TNT football at least give some sort of assistance to these clubs? In the very near future there is the strong possibility that they may not even be a pro league if the situation remains as is. There must be a means by which to encourage people to actively follow our local league, for this problem i blame the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Look at the Chinese league are attracting big name players to sign for their clubs. Generally the standard of our league is poor , not due to lack of talent but i believe our players lack proper training and facilities.

I have not posted on this forum for quite sometime although i do check it very regularly. What i do know is that we have not played an international match for close to 1 year. What i want to know is why must we have such a lengthy break? doesn't this affect the cohesiveness of the team. Most of our players ply their trade locally or the lower divisions around the world. International football is of a much higher standard and quality than what they are accustomed to. Therefore our players could only improve if they play at international level on a regular basis. In addition to bettering their chances of gaining  contracts to top leagues. Also i hope when we do finally play a friendly it is not against teams like Guyana or Barbados who my Jamaican friend reconkens that even they can beat us with some measure of ease. We should look to teams that are at least in the top 30. With constant exposure at a high level although we might get beaten a couple times we could only get better. I wish our new coach the best of luck he is one with a vast amount of experience lets see how he fears in this difficult task.

To me Edwards, ince and Glenn were the outstanding players. Again our defending needs some work although Willams and radanfah made some important interventions at times. I was very disappointed in latapys substitutions he should have brought on tinto for Jones. Yorke , birchall and Scotland made very little impact

Overall this was a very disappointing performance i think our main problem is we playing to slow we not reacting quickly enough and this caused the first two goals . We have some major problems defensively with A. Edwards who had a pretty bad game but also wit keyeno and Lawrence who i found with his experience was making some silly mistakes. Keon only show a little bit of what he could do in the second half , this guy needs a club he having problems keeping the ball. Jones is also having similar problems everytime he get the ball he losing it. To me we only had one clear cut chance when Carlos run out he liver string and finally put in a good cross only for John as usual to miss it >:(

I really disappointed with our performance some might say we had the better of the first half but i disagree as soon as we score the first goal we was under constant pressure an the second one came against the run of play. We defense was in a mess for the whole game an i cant understand why the hell stern take that penalty!
