Sunderland's Edwards Back To Supply Crosses For Kenwyne
Trinidad & Tobago winger Carlos Edwards has been recalled from his loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers by Black Cats boss Roy Keane.
Carlos Edwards looks set for his first start of the Premier League season when Sunderland take on West Ham United at the Stadium of Light tomorrow afternoon.
The Wearsiders' manager, Roy Keane, has recalled the winger just six weeks into a three-month loan spell at Championship high-flyers Wolverhampton, and believes that the Trinidad & Tobago international can start supplying ammunition for his fellow countryman in the Sunderland side, striker Kenwyne Jones.
"The deal was that we could recall Carlos after a month if we wanted and I just felt that, now he has had a few games at Wolves, he offers us an extra option," Keane explained today.
"We have Kenwyne (Jones) back now as well and it's quite possible we will look to Carlos to start putting in crosses into the box for him.
"We will have to wait and see, but Carlos does give us something that no-one else in the squad quite does.
"He comes back and, assuming he has no problem after playing for T&T in midweek, he has a good chance of being involved tomorrow.
"Carlos is a real threat because he can get in behind people."
Meanwhile, Sunderland's Scottish international goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who has been out of action for a month with an ankle injury, looks set to stay on the sidelines having only been given the go-ahead to resume training on Friday.
Left-back George McCartney, an ex-West Ham player, is also struggling. The Northern Ireland defender has a foot problem.
"Craig is very doubtful for Sunday. It is one of those injuries that is taking longer than expected to heal up," added Keane.
"It's the same with George and they are both in the 50-50 bracket for tomorrow."
Sunderland take on the Hammers having returned to winning ways last week with a 2-1 victory away at Blackburn Rovers. Prior to that, they had not won since beating Newcastle United on October 25.
