I don’t get it. Satisfied for earning 1 out of 6pts vs Puerto Rico? Sounds like Haiti’s last coach who was happy for a 1-0 loss to England.

I was expecting a big clash between two big Caribbean sides. Trinidad didn’t show up in the first half. I want to see a more competitive second half.

Quote:” Haiti!!! Always exciting to watch. Good come back win. They are lucky Qatar did not get the two penalties. Group B look like the most competitive.”

Probably because we always have a goalkeeper problem. Btw, this Trini team seem like the beginning of a renaissance. I didn’t watch the TT vs Haiti friendly but the reports among us suggest this TT team is very good.

Football / Re: What about a: CARIBBEAN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE?
« on: April 24, 2023, 04:08:45 PM »
A great idea in my opinion. Belize and Nicaragua's clubs have easier paths to the CCL than any Caribbean nations despite countries like Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Cuba, and even Guadeloupe and Martinique are far more successful. The lack of truly professional clubs in the caribbean is probably why we are being treated like outsiders who are fighting for one or two spots at the CCL. Most Caribbean nations are too small to support their own full professional leagues without government money and the larger ones with a large enough population like Haiti, Cuba, and Jamaica are also the poorest ones. So, a Caribbean league with a number of elite teams is really the way to go if we want to develop strong teams in the caribbean.

Is CONCACAF boycotting the Women’s Under 20 WC? CONCACAF hosts the tournament through Costa Rica yet you rarely see an article about it on the website. Maybe it has to do with the poor showing of the CONCACAF teams.

7
It is sad how CONCACAF almost always treat the Caribbean like a guest in CONCACAF football.

Congrats to Jamaica beating Haiti 4-0 to grab the automatic berth. The difference tonight? Better coaching staff. The Ja coach correctly identified Haiti’s weaknesses and exploited them! A real beating. Luckily Mexico failed to beat USA. For a momen, the Play-off was at their reach.

By the way, what happened to Alexcia Ali who played for the U20 in 2020? Small but she showed some great skills as a midfielder, a position I think the Trini team may need help with.

I was secretly hoping that all 3 Caribbean teams would make it to the WC. Somehow, I believe this is still possible.

The situation in Group A is encouraging. With a tie both Haiti and Jamaica will move on, one directly to the WC and the other to the playoffs. Even a Jamaica victory is likely to result in both Caribbean teams moving on. With a Haiti victory, there is a slight chance that Mexico may steal the 3rd position, although unlikely considering that Mexico would have to beat USA. Mission nearly impossible.

The situation is more straightforward in Group B. Trinidad has to beat Panama. That's that! Can this happen? Based on the way both teams have played against the same opponents, Panama clearly has the edge. The Canaleras have been outgunned but they remained competitive generating many opportunities of their own. Panama has not yet scored but they show that they can. Their defense was phenomenal versus Canada.

For Trinidad, there is still a bit of mystery around the team. We know nothing of what the team can do when shifted to attacking mode. Unlike Panama which tried to win its games, Trinidad did not commit to any real attempts to score. It has been all defensive play,  so far. Did KJ know all efforts versus Canada and Costa Rica would be futile and that he needed to focus on this last game? Will there be a surprise tomorrow? Let's hope so.

I didn’t want to sound like a sore loser but when I saw Jamaica struggled to beat a 9-man Haitian team, I knew they were going to be in trouble with DR, which actually dominated Haiti in a friendly. I had no doubt El Salvador would lose to DR and Haiti was on a path to meet them in the quarterfinals. From a Haitian perspective, it would be a big embarrassment to lose to them in an international tournament! Loll

Anyway, this DR saga confirms that nothing beat good and proper preparation. It’s not about the names …like being Jamaica, Haiti, or Trinidad. You don’t prepare, you lose! Simple as that. They followed the Haitian model and opened a youth football academy where their youth players continuously get trained. The clubs from their national league have dominated CFU for the past few years. They’re on their way to become a serious contender in CONCACAF.

It’s true other minnows have made some noise then disappear like Antigua with Peter Byers’ generation, Puerto Rico with the Islanders, and currently Curaçao with a golden generation of imported players. Those are obviously short-lived successes. Powerful Curaçao has weak youth and women teams which means that their current status is not based on having a solid football foundation.

DR is different. They have a good foundation and I can only see them getting stronger and stronger. Some Haitians are saying that DR is strong because they have many Haitians playing in their clubs and even this U20 team has Haitian players. Yeah right! Those players live in the DR, they play football in the DR, they choose to play for the DR… so they are Dominicans, at least when it comes to football!

In conclusion, being named Jamaica, Haiti, or Trinidad is not enough to make other teams wet their pants. You must be able to back it up and THAT requires a good deal of preparation.

Heads up! I watched Costa Rica dominated and beat Haiti 2-1 last night. They are no joke. Any team that can dominate and beat Haiti with all those high performers playing in France is a real contender. Trinidad will have a tough time versus Costa Rica.

In my opinion, Trinidad will need to beat Panama and fight hard for a point from either Canada or Costa Rica. not an easy task considering Costa Rica's level and Canada being the defending Olympic champion.

Although Group A is the group of death, I believe the Caribbean has a good chance to send another member to the world cup through this group. Haiti and Jamaica will play last. I am hoping that at least one of the two will earn a point from USA or Mexico. A tall task but it happened before. In this scenario, the team with no point should just play its subs and let the other Caribbean team grab the qualification. Central American teams do this all the time. A team is not required to play specific players. Of course, if both teams still have a chance to qualify, it's war!

Why was Gil benched? Also, why Bailey started. He seemed either tired or injured.

It was a weird strategy to go full defensive versus a Costa Rica team that struggled so far to score goals. Is Mr. Eve the coach of the senior national team as well? The level of football in the region has improved a lot. You now need more than just quality players to win games in CONCACAF.

Someone in here said they really dont see Mexico dismantling this T&T team. He said this T&T team too good.  Who was that truehaitian?

 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good at what exactly??

Mexico will do the same against Haiti

Haiti next!

I believe I made a comment suggesting that both Haiti and Trinidad had a chance to advance and possibly qualify. My comment had these conditions: Mexico plays at USA level (this comment was made before Mexico's first game) AND Haiti and Trinidad fix their defense issues.

Obviously, Mexico has a much stronger U20 team than USA and Trinidad/Haiti still having defense issues. Haiti, for instance, saw its defense exposed by Suriname yesterday.

In the case of Trinidad, the team started the game well then for no apparent reason everyone pulled back ceding the midfield to Mexico. If Trinidad challenged Mexico in the midfield the result would have probably been much different. AT least the score wouldn't be 5-0, for sure.

Will they beat Haiti 5-0 or more? With Haiti's defense issues, it is possible. However, bear in mind Haiti does not want to finish 3rd, which will place it in USA's path. The first and 2nd teams in this group F have a realistic chance to reach the semifinals and qualify for the WC but the 3rd place finisher is doomed. So, I expect Haiti to do its best versus Mexico.

I see Edouard Vorbe. I assume he is related to Philippe Vorbe, former Haitian captain of the 70s.

They are one but large family in the Port-au-Prince area. At 75, Philippe is probably everyone's uncle or great uncle in the family. He wasn't the only member of the Vorbe family who played for Haiti in the 70s. The family is like a football academy. There is always a Vorbe ready to join the national team. They own Violette AC.

Based on all the matches I have watched so far, I believe both Trinidad and Haiti were pretty good despite that both teams need to work on their defense. Haiti was more technical in the midfield but Trinidad was very good in attack. If Mexico plays at the same level USA played the other day, it is possible that one of these two teams may make it to the semi.

Don't be too hard on the kids.

AG is no joke. I was impressed with their discipline despite the loss. I won’t be surprise if they upset either Haiti or Trinidad, especially Haiti which is only taking part in the competition because CONCACAF won’t allow them to withdraw.

Cuba has an impressive U20 team that will probably become a force in CFU in the next few years IF they don’t flee the island.

Haiti playing mas with Guyana in these opening minutes. Doh miss de highlight reel. If this is a C team ... Hmmm!

Guyana settled somewhat, but were eventually undone by a searching diagonal individual run with the ball (right flank to the left top of the D) accompanied by a foul that was sought across the face of the defender's body. That led to a free kick that hit the right upright ... being converted by a trailing player on the rebound directed to the left. All happened a few minutes before HT.

A bit naive by some of the defending Guyanese players as there was a failure to consider that offside would not apply to secondary movement. Good goal.

This match is unlikely to end as drastically as the previous one, but GT has to change a thing or two to get anything from this match.

6-0 is more drastic than 6-2 :). It must have been very hot. Haitian and Guyanese players seem like fish in hot water. Very slow pace.

Haiti U20 is out of the tournament. No local league this year.

And it took the FHF, how long to come to that realization? Why an announcement now?

They were probably waiting for a possible payday. The FHF and some other associations rely on gov’s money and participation fees from CONCACAF. That’s how officials usually get paid and enjoy perks such as free travel and hotels etc. My guess is that they eventually failed to get funding from the government because of the poor showing of the U20 women’s team due to lack of preparation. There has been no official football competitions in Haiti since last year and the academy where youth teams usually train has been closed.

So, in conclusion here is CONCACAF finding:

"After due examination of this case, which included clear evidence that the club did not meet its responsibility of ensuring visa applications were made within the required time to participate in the competition, the Committee has established that Cavaly AS infringed articles 4.1.4 (applying for visas within the required time), 4.4 (participating clubs) and 7.2 (withdrawal, unplayed matches and abandoned matches) of the Competition Regulations. Therefore, and in accordance with articles 21 (Concacaf Disciplinary Committee) and 7.3.2 (fines in case of withdrawal), the club has been imposed an undisclosed fine.
Furthermore, in accordance with article 7.5.4, the Committee has disqualified the Haitian club from taking part in any Concacaf Club Competition for the next two years
".

So, I trust that the investigation was fair and that the club truly violated said rule. I am hoping that they would employ the same dilligence when clubs from USA, Canada, and Mexico violate their rules.

That being said, I do believe like Maxg and Asylumseeker suggested, there might be more to the story than what was said. CONCACAF went as far as to ask the club to return US$140,000 in addition to paying an extra US$30,000 penalty fees! It could be that CONCACAF believe the club officials purpotedly failed to secure visas for the players in order to pocket the prime money!

Caribbean football 101!

Not as far-fetched as it sounds. Pack the back and play Serrant up front with instructions to shoot on goal whenever possible. Based on what I see, I think she has the speed and power to surprise Canada. A win by any margin will fullfill the first part of the deal.

The second part of the deal is far more likely. St Kitts actually has a weak defense. A 6-0 win for El Salvador is not impossible.

In this scenario, TT would finish 3rd and qualified with 3pts and -7goal while St Kitts would be eliminated with 3pts and -8goal.

So, TT just need to win and hope for a lopsided victory by any of the other two teams.

How many goals/what result against Canada + result of El Salvador defeating St. Kitts Nevis would be needed for T&T to move on? Ah too jaded to do the calculation.

Your best bet is to beat Canada ideally by 7 goals and hope that the El Salvador-St Kitts match does not end in a draw. If you win by any score less than 7, you will need El Salvador to win by your score minus 7. For a St Kitts victory, it should be your score minus 8.

This is a very tall order, especially with the goalkeepers you have. Canada will shoot!

I have yet to hear Caribbean sporting authority lobby for redress, pronounce on the grievance or act meaningfully to blunt CONCACAF's lack of mitigation. Not a single voice over the years.

asylum, very true!!!! CFU is a real impotent or "don't really care" football organization.

Agreed with both of you. Whereas countries are not going to change their visa policies, the burden to offer an alternative venue should always be on the host team. CONCACAF could have asked NE Rev to play those games in Mexico or DR.

If we thought the Olympic qualifying experience of Haiti's Olympic team was tragic, the experience of Arcahaie FC is worse. Covid, runaway players and a GK who didn't travel who claims his passport got soaked. The first two are what they are ... But that 3rd item tempts suspicion.

And the "drama" of that opening goal.

Sadly, Cavaly de Leogane has just learnt what it means to be a caribbean club, and especially one from Haiti.

Funny how CONCACAF rewards NE Revolution for the US refusal to grant entry visas to the Cavaly players! I would believe if the host country refuses to grant visas to the players of a visiting team, CONCACAF should require the host team to seek alternative venues for the games. NE Rev should have forfaited, not Cavaly.
