Football / Re: Thread for T&T vs Mexico (10-Jul-2021)
« on: July 10, 2021, 10:40:02 AM »
Take the loss and use this game for experimenting. Try switching up the formation. Try players in different positions. See what works. Then use this information to beat El Salvador and Guatemala.

BTW. Guatemala has it out for us. Any fck up, and they go smell blood and punish us.

The Mexico match must be approached like a must-win game because the second position will likely come down to goal differences. Be competitive versus Mexico, then get points from both El Salvador and Guatemala. So, instead of accepting the fate, play to score versus Mexico and force them to allocate resources in the back by fighting for every inch in the midfield and covering the flanks. That is how central American teams are usually able to limit the damages when playing Mexico. They don't just go defensive and hope that Mexico will respect their personal space! :)

If this game versus Mexico is kept at a respectable score, then surviving this group becomes a reality. Guatemala is a weak team. I can see a victory over the Guatemalans. The fight for second place is really between T&T and El Salvador, which is why the game versus Mexico is so important even if it results in a loss.

On a second note, forget everything. Just beat Mexico and everyone else, problem solved! :)

On a different note, I think I would like to remind you guys that all these Gold Cup games are live on PrendeTV. It is an app you can download to your phone, roku, etc. I watched all the GC prelims there. You may want to have this app especially if TT qualifies.

I know what the problem is here, you all sit down every weekend with your barca, Chelsea and Man united jerseys and watch top class billion dollar industry football leagues with the best players and coaches money can buy, you don’t support a port vale, a luton town, Bristol rovers, colchester, grimsby town, not even a blackburn rovers.

you don’t know what it’s like to be real fans, to follow your supporter base to the pub for a pint carrying your flags and blowing horns with your banners and flags waving and singing team songs of valor and chants of encouragement all the way to the park, then your team loses their home game to a team we had no business losing to. then we go back to the pub to vent and drown our sorrows until next week when we do it all over again with a hardcore traveling contingent.

Then the season is over and we survived relegation and plans are on the way on how to make the team, the firm/fanbase and the park even more efficient. people volunteer their time and give back to their clubs be it in    community service to the academy or donations in whatever way. you people in trinidad don’t even attend pro league games, it’s beneath you. imagine a big league cup final and the stadium is like a ghost town, and had it not been for the school children being bussed in the SSFL finals would be pathetic. So what football fans are you?

You all sit by your TV and watch big money football and wants to see the same performance from lads that would struggle to make a championship league team....well with the exception of jovin, telfer, molino and Aubrey david, the rest of the lads are at best league two quality.

BTW Aubrey david is a beast, can’t believe how much he has improved, but seriously though, we just don’t have the quality right now, but we can still be fans and support the team instead of tearing down the coach, and only after three games in charge? It’s nonsensical.

Jesus Christ not this rubbish? where do trinis get off thinking that we are somehow entitled to roll over teams and play a pristine brand of football like brazil? the reality is that we are no longer producing players like before, and to make thing worst there is zero dollars being spend on football, what do you people want?

Hmm. Isn't winning the whole point of playing other national teams? I think you should want and expect your team to win, especially against others that are clearly weaker by most metrics.

Haiti's bench is still thin with just 5 additional players and no substitute goalie. However, the trap was set to catch Canada rushing in. The Canadians avoided yet another setback from Haiti.

I think Haiti is favored to beat EL Salvador but this may be too little too late as Canada and Honduras are likely to settle for a low score or worse, a draw making the Haiti vs. El Salvador match nearly irrelevant.

Pretty sad considering Haiti does not have a COVID issue really. Mexico (host) and Honduras do. Yet it is Haiti who ended up playing with 10 players due to Covid.

That is an honest interview but one correction thouhg. This USA is NOT the best team in CONCACAF. They looked good because they had very little to worry about in the game. That being said, I don't think it's fair to judge the coach based on that game alone, though.

Also, Foncette wasn't as bad as the scoreline suggests. I saw some positioning issues but believe it or not overall he was not a bad keeper.

I cannot make sense  out of this game. The team seemed so unprepared that I was left wondering what was the benefits of this game. Was the coach trying some sort of tactical tricks or vetting some local prospects before the big tournaments? None of those seemed the case considering the way the team played. I didn't see any identifiable tactics.

USA picked Trinidad because it is has a good name in CONCACAF but has been declining in recent years and TT accepted to play the sacrificial lamb role. Well, sometime teams accept this role when they need money to support their own prep or other activities for their football. But for this game, I doubt money was a factor in deciding to go play this game unprepared

Enjoyable match between Haiti and Mexico. I want to recognize the Haitian posters and salute the calibre of performances that were delivered. Takeaways for us? Multiple. Big up, Haiti!

Thank you. I am very proud of them. This is the second time our women's u20 lost to Mexico at this stage of the competition.

I don't get his logic. Was he trying to avoid playing Barbados? I mean why not giving your best players a chance to try themselves against the best opponents they would have faced so far, especially in a low risk match where both teams already qualified? I would understand Haiti not playing its best players versus Trinidad because honestly we already know Haiti is the better team at least on the paper and also Haiti has faced better opponents (they played France, Jamaica, and other African teams). They beat Jamaica 4-1 just two weeks ago. However, to bench not one or two starters but 7 is ridiculous. In my mind, it is like denying the kids a chance to try themselves against a decent opponent,

Nice come back but I had no doubt Haiti would win even 2 goals down. A Haiti vs Jamaica in the finals may be a stretch and a bit greedy for a Caribbean-centric guy like myself. But, that would be so sweet. No matter what we do, CONCACAF has no respect for us. Even Belize is treated better than us.

Jamaica playing very well. Up 2 - 0 on Honduras. Leon Bailey is in the starting 11.
JA was fortunate to win that game imo, Honduras played very well but goals win matches!

Seriously? What game were you watching, bro? Jamaica was far superior to Honduras. The score is 3-2 because Jamaica was showing off in the second half. This Jamaica team is definitely a contender.

Very good game so far, balanced but SVG has better talents. Nice to see so many good U-20 players in both sides. SVG took the lead 1-0, somewhat deserved, though.

Well, when I saw the names of the referees I know this was going to end in a drama. For some reason, that dude is always brutal on Caribbean sides. It was like a deja vue when he called a foul against Jones when  in fact a Mexican defender charged him while he was in the air and that came right after the ref disallowed the goal that even the Mexican commentators called a golazo.

Anyway, Trini looked good tonight. It is no shame to lose to Mexico even though I think Trini deserved the point they fought for. Hard luck.

Football / Re: Franck Dumas for coach?
« on: January 12, 2017, 07:42:56 PM »
Heard it's Franck Dumas, not 100% sure.

Alexandre Dumas great, great, great, great, great grandson?

Funny but it could very well be true. It is likely that all current Dumas are related and descending from a Haitian slave woman named Marie-Cessette who was given the made-up last-name 'Dumas'. In old French and in Creole a 'mas' is a small body of water. So they called her Marie-Cessette 'Dumas' which means she was from the area where there was a 'mas'. Her sons went to France with their French father who refused to allow his 'non-white' children to take on his noble last-name (de la Pailleterie). Thomas-Alexandre, the father of Alexandre Dumas, adopted his mother's made-up last-name 'Dumas'.

So, Franck Dumas may actually be a great great great great grandson of Thomas-Alexandre Dumas (the legendary general who invaded Russia for Napoleon) and Alexandre Dumas (the great French writer).

A little anecdote on the match. Haiti wanted to score an own goal to end the match 2-3 to avoid the extra time but CFU warned the Haitian officials that they would take actions against it. The Haitian players knew about it.

That is overconfidence on the part of the Haitian coach, a type of dare and tease I guess. All what Haiti needed is to score an own goal in the last few second.

On paper Haiti may seem the stronger side based on last night's score but Trinidad still has home field advantage which sort of makes it an even match where anything can happen.

Haiti is not at its best. At least 6 of the starters are rookies and the coach's lack of experience showed last night when he made several changes that almost handed the match to Suriname.

I watched the first two games and I can clearly see why these three teams failed to automatically qualify for the Gold Cup. All three teams have poor defenses and inexperienced coaches.

Neveu hasn't received any pay from the Haitian Football Federation in months. He resigned two days ago.

I looked at the Haitian team for the upcoming games. Many key players are missing. No Placide. Plus they don't have their European  players. I believe only two made the trip to TT.

According to him, he did not resign. He is suing the FHF for breach of contract arguing that they refused to pay him because they wanted him to resign. Neveu is very unpopular and nobody wants him as the head coach. The FHF offered him 3 months of pay to resign he refused. He asked for the full amount of his remaining contract.

Haiti is a paradox. Haiti usually does better with a local core team but in the past 3 years we rarely play with more than 3 local players at once. Haiti vs Costa Rica 0-1 and Haiti vs Jamaica 2-0 were two games where Haiti had more locals than foreign players. It is ironic considering that the local league is very weak.

Though, I agree with Genevois, Ade, Donald, Alcenat, and James Marcelin you guys would have a very strong challenge for that last berth.

Tobago, the truth about the match Haiti vs Cuba is that the score is misleading. Haiti had 56% possession. According to some people in the stadium, it was a very controversial match. The CFU officials left the stadium very upset with the Dominican referee.

Today, I am hearing that the referee has apparently been told he was not going to take part in the rest of the tournament. He is accused of bias for allegedly killed most Haiti's attacks by calling phony fouls.

It is also rumored that CFU blamed the referee for Allowing Cuba's lone goal. Apparently the ball never crossed the line.

I wasn't at the game so I cannot tell whether any of the accusations can be justified.

Our next match is not as important to us as it is to Trinidad. We are already qualified and there isn't a team in the other group that we are trying to avoid. So I think Montilas  may field some players from the bench.
