Football / Are we really better off with or without Jack Warner??
« on: June 24, 2008, 04:22:37 PM »
Now, I’ve sit back and observed for a very, very long time, (and I know I’m risking being criticized for what im about to say, but who gives a f*&%)

I must say that everyone on, well not everyone but some of the persons on this forum are at times too judgmental, extremely critical and feel they are always right and could do much better when it comes to The TTFF &  JW. Some here cast aspersions and make erroneous statements that imply, that all they do entire day is sit in their executive leather chairs in the board room looking for ways to suck Trinidad dry of all its money and destroy our football to the point where it's beyond repair.  I don’t think anyone here can tell me that JW hasn't given a lot to football in Trinidad, more than any Gov’t, fan or Corporation has ever done. I also say that we have become so Anti - JW, that it's hard for us to see the good he has done. In my opinion, If it weren't for JW we would have never been able to hire a coach like Leo Beenhakker, and would have certainly never made the World Cup in 2006. I for one applaud him and thank him for the good he has done and for his tremendous contribution to the development of football in T&T. With that said, don't think I’m not aware that with the many good he has done, he has also allegedly been accused of taking a hell of alot more, which to this day (at least to my knowing) he has never been prosecuted for. Let me also say, by no means am I denying that the administrators are innocent of having our football in the terrible state that it’s in , and that their are serious issues to be dealt with in the TTFF. I for one believe its time for a new executive. But the question I’m getting to and asking you all to think carefully about is, where would our football be with out JW? Love him or hate him, he has done a lot, and if he exits our football affairs, is there anyone capable enough and with the connections JW has to champion our cause and fight for Trinbagonian football?? I await your comments...

Football / Chelsea's Grant says title should be decided in playoff
« on: May 09, 2008, 11:12:15 PM »
By Chris Hatherall, LONDON (Reuters)

The Premier League should be decided in a playoff in future if teams finish level on points at the top, Chelsea manager Avram Grant said on Friday.

Chelsea go into the final weekend of the season level on 84 points with leaders Manchester United but they will lose the title race on goal difference if both clubs record a similar result on Sunday. United's tally is 17 goals better.

Grant, whose team face Bolton Wanderers while United visit Wigan Athletic, said: "I prefer the system in Italy. If you have the same points you play a playoff and it is decided on that.

"Of course, I have interest now to say that, but I like it anyway. Sometimes, you score more goals against the weakest teams. If you have the same points, you are at the same level so you need to play to see who is the better," he told reporters.

However, Grant, who has promised to share a bottle of Israeli wine with United manager Alex Ferguson before the two title contenders meet in the Champions League final in Moscow on May 21, is refusing to look back on missed opportunities.

"Of course, after any game you look back and say 'I could have done this better'. But I think in the season not everything can be perfect, not for us and not for United. We came to the same points and now we wait for Sunday."

« on: September 30, 2006, 11:18:09 PM »
Just an observation but it looks as though there is a serious decline in people registering on WN website.....another thing, probably a question for Flex or the other moderators to answer...but are u guys getting sufficient funds to keep the sites running? I can't recall if this is in effect already, but maybe we should look at the possibility of members paying annual fees to WN...Just a suggestion

WORLD CUP RULES:

Dear Wife, Partner, Girlfriend,

1. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, you should read the sports section of the newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the World Cup, and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.

2. During the World Cup, the television is mine, at all times, without any exceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you will lose it (your eye).

3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right after because if you catch a cold, I won’t have time to take you to the doctor or look after you during the World Cup month.

4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up the baby that just fell on the floor....It won’t happen.

5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs in the fridge at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games. In return, you will be allowed to use the TV between 12am and 6am, unless they replay a good game that I missed during the day.

6. Please, please, please!! If you see me upset because one of my teams is losing, DO NOT say "get over it, it’s only a game", or "don't worry, they'll win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a break up or divorce.

7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during halftime but only when the commercials are on, and only if the halftimes score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one" game; hence do not use the World Cup as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time together".

8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.

9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because:

a) I will not go,
b) I will not go, and
c) I will not go.

10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a game, we will be there in a flash.

11. The daily World Cup highlights show on TV every night is just as important as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you have already seen this...why don't you change the channel to something we can all watch?" because, the reply will be, "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".

12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the World Cup is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League, FA Cup, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Football / Roberto Carlos claims 3 year offer from Chelsea
« on: May 24, 2006, 06:33:22 PM »
WEGGIS, Switzerland, May 24 (Reuters) - Brazil fullback Roberto Carlos said on Wednesday he had been offered a three-year contract by English champions Chelsea.

The 33-year-old has one year to run on his contract with Real Madrid and said he would make up his mind after the World Cup, which starts on June 9.

"The problem is not financial," he told reporters before a training session with the world champions. "The problem is the length of the contract and my motivation to play football.

"Chelsea have made a good offer and are offering three years of contract instead of one year more with Real Madrid."

"I hope to get a reply from Real Madrid to re-negotiate my contract, if not I'm going to look for somewhere else."

"I want to have a good World Cup and, three or four weeks later, I hope to have decided whether I stay at Real Madrid or go to Chelsea."

Football / Did anyone tape the Soca Warriors on Total Football
« on: May 07, 2006, 07:12:22 PM »
Ay did anyone tape the soca warriors on Total football 2nite, my stinking cable keep goin down and im unable to get CNC3?

On Nov 16th 2005 our beloved Soca Warriors qualified for our 1st ever world cup finals after drawing 1-1 at home and then beating Bahrain 1-0 away. The jubilation that followed was reminiscent of carnival Mon & Tueday in T&T, It was certainly a red letter day in Trinidad & Tobago's history. We became the smallest nation to ever qualify for a world cup finals. with probably the least amount of support both financially and physically. Newspapers were filled with congratulatory ads by companies and fans for the days that followed our historic qualification. Sadly, today I look around and can count on one hand the amount of times the warriors names and qualification are mentioned on various radio stations and ads via press. (minus the promotional ads by companies trying to boost their sales by offering trips, tv's etc). Compare how we act around carnival, from d time xmas done fete does start and their's a buzz of excitement that follow, when it's CARNIVAL IN T&T u does know is carnival. Flyers everywhere, every lampost decorated with billboards, banners. Dj's hyping up revellers from dusk to dawn. Why isn't the same thing happening now for our team. People in other countries would die for an opportunity to have their national team play in a W/CUP. In Latin/South American/European countries football is like a religion. Its time for us to spread the word in case people have forgotten...WE GOIN GERMANY!!!!!!   Come on fellow forumites lets get the ball rollin, buy your Big Bagdes if u havent as yet, stick up posters in yr homes, offices, cars, yuh toilet..wherever......Lets infect everyone around us with WARRIOR FEVER!!
