2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: What the media say Birchall say
« on: June 13, 2006, 03:27:00 PM »
This article was in our newspaper on 20th may 2006 long before the world cup

"CHRIS BIRCHALL has banned himself from celebrating should he stun England and score for Trindad & Tobago.
The Stafford-born midfielder, 22, is the first Port Vale player to appear in the world Cup finals.
Birchall faces a midfield showdown with Steveb Gerrard and Frank Lampard in Nurenberg on June 15. But he has vowed not to gloat if he spoils Sven Goran Eriksson's farewell party.
Birchall, who qualifies for the Caribbean minnows though his Tindad-born mother, said: "If i score I won't celebrate. I respect England - it's the country where i'm from and I'm very proud about that."

none of us know what he will do if he scores maybe hell decide  but ill tell you sumat if he does score and doesnt celebrate he is no less a trini than dwight yourke u have got to realise england is his country and he is a respectable man he will do what he wants to all you got do is be behing him 110% like he is for you

Iz u really he gyul ...if so post ah pic fuh we nah ... when yuh talk tuh he on de phone tell he dat we behind him ...as long as he score we ain't carew what he do ...

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Thread for the T&T vs England game.
« on: June 13, 2006, 03:19:52 PM »
We need to watch this one closely, I guarantee that England will get frustrated and foul and tackle harder. Our boys have to be real cool for this one and not pick any unnecessary cards, let England foul themselves out of the game.

If that is the case somebody please give Cyd a chill pill

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Rooney Poised for Trinidad Return
« on: June 12, 2006, 05:16:09 PM »
Well yes. He anxious to come back. Blade de youth man jus so???
Cyd have someting waitin fuh yuh.......a nice trini 3 line blade.........fortified by dasheen.....yuh go wish yuh did keep yuh ass quiet til second rounds.

Now..........yuh seeing where england weakness is. My opinion is this. Crouch and Owen when isolated from their midfield are starved as they need service more than anything. Rooney is their only striker when starved drops in deep to get ball.........and tackles like a defender to boot. Their midfield while boasting of a decent degree of attacking strength......lacks a proven ball winner. Now.....if rooney doh start............and we strangle dey midfield...................he might get a run in second half. All this depends on Englands attitude towards us...........one of overconfidence..........or one of leaving nothing to chance.

Actually ... and i don't want to sound like ah bustin on yuh but ...Crouch comes back for the ball more than Owen ... and Gerrard is a proven ball winner for club and country ... their real weakness is that when both Gerrard and Lampard are on the field they seem to both push up leaving a gap between the defense and the middle ... after the show against Sweden they will take us more seriuosly and will be a bit more cautious and deliberate in their approach ... meaning that Yorke and Me Mum will get alot of pressure ... but if we have Whitley with them in the middle we should be fine ...also wwe need too strikers as Terry and Rio are s**t snakes ... i don't say this often but Stren will have a field day against them ...but only if we play with an additional striker ...Glenn or Jones ... but anyways ... Beenie have a plan  .... In Beenie We Trust

Football / Re: What made the game between T&T and Sweeden so special?
« on: June 12, 2006, 04:28:19 PM »
But what make it extra special is that sweden didnt roll over and play lazy

The play HARD. The intensity pick up as they start to get more and more frustrated

When ah really take stock of wha happen dey:

On average, we are one of the oldest teams in de cup.
Is man from 2nd, 3rd and 4th division (If yuh could qualify Jabloteh and Galaxy as 4th) BATTLE against one of the top teams in the tournament

Moreover, they currently have 2, 3 of the most poisonous stikers on the planet firing against our 'second string' keeper and de same replacement keeper is past his prime (even de keeper admit to that)

The power of the mind...the WILL to win overcome all

Now that I see this mind thing work on a global stage...I TELLIN yuh, I goin and check and get troo wit Halle Berry
I go pull dat dred...who doubtin mih go get ah case ah ketchup
Allyuh go see de headline on Entertainment tonight "Halles new caribbean man"...doh hate..jus capitulate

Yes mih wife go object , but ah go use mih newly found mind powers to overcome she objections too.  :afro:

Football / Re: whitley should start
« on: June 12, 2006, 04:25:04 PM »
i like how theobald started but he faded quickly and gave away too many balls.

lampard and gerrard will take theobald out of the game and every team is already prepared to deny birchall his 'bullet' goal - you could see that the swedes planned well for him to close him down once he entered the attacking third. but they can't plan so easily for whitley because he is unpredictable - more of an enigma, he can keep the ball or take them on as well as fall back to deep midfield and just cover make interceptions and force turnovers while yorke goes up and does the damage. so he can help us keep offensive and defensive shape.

i agree shotta, - what whitley did for stern against mexico by creating two opportunities for him to score is enough proof that he can be crucial if beenkakker sticks with a 4-5-1.

Absolutely right that the england mid field have planned for Yorke and Me Mum ... so we need an alternative ... Whitley, Wise and Glenn can pull it off b/c the Brits dfont know what to expext from them ... i will be surprised if Yorke and Me MuM don't get alot of attention ... plus with Glenn AND Stern up front it will put off Terry and Rio so they will jkust be trying to clear the ball and not play exact passes into midfiled ... ah vex that Avery get carded buh say wah

Football / Re: Move carlos out of right back
« on: June 12, 2006, 04:09:12 PM »
Allyuh men talking real shit. Carlos had a brilliant game playing defense.

Where allyuh men feel caros does play for Luton.

ah bunch ah flicking jokers.
 :beermug:

Cowen,
Like i tell kicker, doh take on dem men

Good talk marcos...BUUUUTTT
Carlos had a superb game. Sure he made a few errors but you cannot say he was poor defensively or else with the quality Sweden has, he would have been dominated on that right side..and trust me..he was not. Even the greatest defenders get caught out in a game on occasion...This nit-picking is some petty shit....every defender made defensive errors on Sat and got caught out..what? you feel all dem saves Shaka had to make was Carlos fault??? steeups. They were playing with 10 men under some serious pressure...dem boys were well organized and played with heart..and you know they were fatigued and facing a level of football they never experienced in their lives...dat 0-0 score line was brilliant and Carlos was a massive part of that. PLUS...everyone knows Carlos only got moved there because of the red card...most likely beenie go draft in a defender for the next game.

And bringing back Dog would be a mistake...I feel everything happens for a reason. We tied that game because we had Shaka and Sancho  ;) T&T lost Jack and Dog and their replacements played the games of their lives. They have faced the baptism of fire...and know the pace of the WC game and their confidence is sky high...Avery done out..so we probably bringing in a new wing back...to also bring in Dog for Sancho and Jack for Shaka means we will have 2 or 3 new men in the back who have to acclimitize to the pace of the opposition...that is a step backward. No disrespect to Jack and Dog abilities...but that will destroy the chemistry that has been built..we will go back to ahving a 'cold' defense trying to acclimitize for the first 15-20 mnutes of the game against England...bes' we keep the men with WC experience and confidence, who already know what to expect and have proven they can excel in this environment

DAt is good talk ... no disrespect tuh Dog and Jack ...allyuh is meh boys buh fuh dis one allyuh hatta cool it fuh de sake ah de team ... all thouhg ah feel dog go get a bligh ...Jack go hatta chill ... plus Glen stake he claim ...Beenie have a real hard decision tuh make with who playing up front now ... bess play both ah dem yes ... GO BRAVE ...

The media and financial sector investing in our local football would be a great start to establishing a common footballing tradition within our environment. Building heroes from our local leagues through constant and consistent exposure to the public will give rise to a new pride and belief in who we are. It will also allow for the players themselves to become more committed and dedicated to improving their game.

Makes me remember the words to a calypso from Christopher "Tambu" Herbert
".....so leh we love, we calypso, and leh we love, up, de limbo
and believe in the steelpan, for the next generation
leh we love, up, we culture, our own we must nurture
is then we're on the road, to a brand new mode..."

As you rightly said Alberta, it can start with the media being responsible to to the villages, and towns, and to the nation in assisting to foster a greater tradition with football and other sports.  By instilling in the youths of the nation a pride. A new found pride which will burn deep into their soul enabling them to see further than the sweat on an afternoon, but to see themselves in the colors of, Jabloteh, or W' Connection, or North East Stars, as against seeing themselves looking at the EPL, or La Liga.

Sometimes I post here and it frustrate me that most times, my post seems futile cause most people just want to ol' talk. And the serious side of the game they do not want to deal with. So I guess we have to fix us first.

We've had similar threads before and I've said that it will probably have to start with a local team doing all it's PR and spending money to broadcast it's games on Sundays on a local radio stations(Trini style)once it becomes popular then the businesses will fall in. That is an overly simplistic way of putting it, but the teams themselves have to do something to generate popular interest in the league. Marketing is the key. The internet can also be used to broadcast local games etc.

That is an excellent point ... Pointman ... after the WC ... the league needs to find pur own pretty boy/face to market the league ...just like Beckham/Zidane or who ever to generate interest ... a public personality, and most importantly ROLE MODEL .. that is the key to the marketing issue when it comes to sport and youth .. the next step is to run the league like a business ... for profit ... so hopefully it gets reinvested into the league ... this is difficult due to issues with accountability and lack of significant seed capital to start with.  an alternative is the model the MLS structure where teams are franchissed instead of fully owned.  this will generate revenues for the league to do things like PR, TV braodcasting etc.  also, teams must realize that selling players abraod in the short run may make their INDIVIDUAL TEAM a bit weaker but in the long run ... the funds generated if invested in the right youth talent coud bring significant returns later on ... in short what makes the teams in Europe successful is that they are run like businesses for profit.

Man shouldnt over analyse at this point oui

The underdogs was dong to 10 men..stern had 2 , 3 man lockin him dong

EVERYBODY do dey wukk...and do it like ah fighter

I read a couple review quotes where people was askin "where did this # 13 come from?" (#8 yuh pardner go get big contract boy)

.....and Wise, Jones and Latas still eh get unleash yet

Small ass country dat everybody write off..and we still have X-factors as options

Allyuh mad oui

Dutty yuh talk good dey ... but who is the next X-Factor in england game ??? ... we saw Glen with pace, and shooting put Sweden on the back foot ... against England we need to look at somebody to axe Joe Cole with his speed and that Girlie Man Beckham with his crosses .... Los as the right back and Samuel on the left should do the trick ... but Stren will definelty get marked outta the game by Terry and Rio ... i suspect Beenie go try a ting here again ... in Beenie We Trust

Football / Re: If Andrew's ok for Thursday?
« on: June 12, 2006, 05:14:03 AM »
So if Andrew is good to go on Thursday, what position will Sancho play? Sancho was excellent in the middle and we need to keep him playing in the middle of the field; because after this game, he has grown in confidence, which will help us against England.

Here is my line-up for Thurday's game:

                                                     Hislop

        Edwards               Lawrence                    Andrew               Gray
                                                    Sancho

                       Jones                      Yorke                            Whitley

                                     Stern                             Glen (Latapy '55)

The back looks good ... i would have Me Mum for Whitley

Football is not mathematics, says Beenhakker
11 June 2006
by FIFAworldcup.com

This is why Beenie made the sub .... read on ... Beenie is Boss ... that worked out well ...

"Reduced to ten men after Avery John picked up his second yellow for an enthusiastic challenge on Anders Svensson, 'Don Leo', pulled an old trick out of his hat. Rather than bring on a defender like most modern managers would, he opted for speedy striker Cornell Glen of New England Revolution.

When asked about his odd tactic, he could only smile and say: "Isn’t great when it works? They were looking to push forward and get at us with ten men, so I decided to make them chase a very fast striker. In the end they were defending two speedy front men with five defenders. I love it when something like that works out."
