'Stars', AIA in Toyota semis

scored winner: Brent Sancho
On a rainy Friday night in Marabella, when very few dared to venture outside, a little team from Sangre Grande fought and brought down giants.

Sounds like fairy-tale? Well, for North East Stars it must have been after the Sangre Grande village team ended W Connection's 26-match unbeaten sequence by booting the 2005 winners and first-ever champions of the Toyota Classic out at the quarter-final stage of the 2008 competition two nights ago.

Stars built a comfortable early lead, and doggedly held a slender 2-1 advantage to the end, even after the expulsion of their Guyanese striker Randolph Jerome left them a player short for 48 minutes. They now face St Ann's Rangers in next Friday's semi final round, while last year's defeated finalists CLICO San Juan Jabloteh will take on Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA - who also beat United Petrotrin 2-0 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium on Friday.

Jerome's aggression was typical of the commitment which the "Sangre Grande" Stars brought into their game against W Connection. And after throwing himself around a couple times, he picked up a second yellow card from referee Russell Cassamir and was ejected. Obviously dejected, Jerome only reluctantly left the field. But his comrades fought on.

Stars survived a testing opening period in which W Connection's Colombian Oscar Torijano looked like opening them up on a couple of occasions. Like, when the Colombian blew by defender Brent Sancho, but unfortunately ran out of turf before getting a shot on goal. And keeper Andrew Durant was sharp to the danger and intercepted a cross at his near post when after a similar drive, Torijano looked to pick out lively St Kitts & Nevis midfielder George Issac in a central position.

But through Jerome and on-loan Rochester Rhinos midfielder Leslie "Tiger" Fitzpatrick, NE Stars began attacking as well, and soon shocked the home fans when taking a comfortable 2-0 lead before the half ended.

First, John Stewart stunned the Southerners who have become unaccustomed to losing this season. Stewart, had Stars ahead at 1-0 when putting a rebound in the back of the W Connection net in the 27th minute after keeper Miguel Lloyd had made the initial block from Sean Cooper's shot. And in the 39th, W Connection were in further trouble when the nervous keeper tipped Marc Leslie's corner kick onto the head of veteran T&T defender Sancho who nodded the ball into the net.

Shock reverberated around the stadium, since almost no one could recall W Connection ever trailing by two goals so early in a match. Between goals, they might have been level just two minutes after conceding had keeper Durant not turned Torijano's shot around the post, after the Colombian raced onto Houghon Hector's through ball. And Durant, a tireless worker, especially in the second half, also had to bring off a double save soon after to preserve his team's lead.

Coming out minus Jerome at the start of the second half, Stars must have known they were about to face a character examination. As expected, Connection took the game to them. But Durant always seemed there to get his body in the way of shots, and on one occasion, made gathering a 30-metre shot by Brazilian Ronaldo Viana look like child's play. However, Connection brought on the added firepower of Brazilian attacker Igor Santos. It finally did the trick when, with almost his first touch, the substitute ghosted into the penalty area and beat Durant with a low shot to the back of the net in the 65rd to make the score 2-1.

Issac had the chance to pull the home team level five minutes later but did not have the power to beat the NE Stars custodian.

And within the final 10 minutes, Christian Viveros, the outstanding, young Colombian utility player, missed the best chance to pull W Connection even when he headed Issac's cross onto the woodwork before it went out. Stars also generated one good chance from Akeil Guevera's header but Lloyd made the save. And even though they faced plenty pressure down the stretch, N E Stars held firm to pick up a well-won semi-final spot next Friday at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium. Even fairy-tales come through sometimes.

FRIDAY'S TOYOTA CLASSIC QUARTER-FINAL RESULTS:

(Manny Ramjohn Stadium)

North East Stars 2 (John Stewart, 27th; Brent Sancho, 39th) W Connection 1 (Igor Santos, 65th)

All due respect... I think Maturana and his staff is being very disrespectful to two players who should of gain the respect from the TTFF.... They may not be no Dwight Yorke/Russell Latapy but they have always given their all to the country and still show that they are better in the position as of now.

I know people will say this and that... but the fact is that the CUBA game should be treated as a MUST WIN cause a loss could mean we are out if Guatemala wins.

I wont be surprsie if this "CRAZY" technical staff bring back Lawrence and dont even play him making us play with a very inexperienced back 4

He was dropped. Did he get a yellow in the Guatemala game? I cant remember if he did not then he was not on any Yellow cause he served his suspension for 2 yellow when he did not play against the US in IL. so Shit with Maturana and dem. They just lucky that they did not rip Akeil Edwards...Saving Avery for CUBA I would rather put Akeil in against Cuba than the US

Say wha we win. But I hope they dont keep A. Edwards there.

JACK WARNER is FULL OF SHIT..... HANDS DOWN... we just spent an assload of money to bring Spann back on short notice on a long ass flight which probably could be an excuse for his poor perfromance when you have Sancho just finish his season with Atlanta and now at NE Stars right there in TnT.... and yuh could of even had play Carlos right back and had Glenn or Hyland on R. Mid...

F OFF JACK

WE?  ???

yes WE... the People of Trindad and Tobago who go to the games and pay to go in. so yes WE

sad cause he has been playing recently.... and even a half fit Sancho can bring more experience in this tough time than Hislop and Thomas (no disrespect to them)

Study: Fellatio may significantly decrease the risk of breast cancer in women  ;D
Thursday, October 2, 2003 Posted: 9:19 AM EDT (1319 GMT)
(AP) -- Women who perform the act of fellatio and swallow semen on a regular basis, one to two
times a week, may reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 40
percent, a North Carolina State University study found.
Doctors had never suspected a link between the act of fellatio and breast
cancer, but new research being performed at North Carolina State University is
starting to suggest that there could be an important link between the two.
In a study of over 15,000 women suspected of having performed regular
fellatio and swallowed the ejaculatory fluid, over the past ten years, the researchers
found that those actually having performed the act regularly, one to two times a week,
had a lower occurance of breast cancer than those who had not. There was no
increased risk, however, for those who did not regularly perform.
"I think it removes the last shade of doubt that fellatio is actually a healthy act," said
Dr. A.J. Kramer of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, who was not involved in the
research. "I am surprised by these findings, but am also excited that the
researchers may have discovered a relatively easy way to lower the occurance
of breast cancer in women." The University researchers stressed that,
though breast cancer is relatively uncommon, any steps taken to reduce the
risk would be a wise decision.
"Only with regular occurance will your chances be reduced, so I encourage all
women out there to make fellatio an important part of their daily routine," said
Dr. Helena Shifteer, one of the researchers at the University. "Since the
emergence of the research, I try to fellate at least once every other night to reduce
my chances."
The study is reported in Friday's Journal of Medical Research. In 1991, 43,582 women died of breast
cancer, as reported by the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Len Lictepeen, deputy chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society, said women should not overlook or "play down" these findings.
"This will hopefully change women's practice and patterns, resulting in a severe drop
in the future number of cases," Lictepeen said. Sooner said the research shows no increase in the risk of breast cancer in those who are, for whatever reason, not able to fellate regularly.
"There's definitely fertile ground for more research. Many have stepped forward to
volunteer for related research now in the planning stages," he said.
Almost every woman is, at some point, going to perform the act of fellatio, but it is the
frequency at which this event occurs that makes the difference, say researchers. Also
key seems to be the protein and enzyme count in the semen, but researchers are
again waiting for more test data. The reasearch consisted of two groups, 6,246 women ages 25 to 45 who had
performed fellatio and swallowed on a regular basis over the past five to ten years,
and 9,728 women who had not or did not swallow. The group of women who had performed and swallowed had a breast cancer rate of 1.9 percent and the group who had not had a breast cancer rate of 10.4 percent.
"The findings do suggest that there are other causes for breast cancer besides the
absence of regular fellatio," Shafteer said. "It's a cause, not THE cause."

« on: July 21, 2008, 04:07:35 PM »
Najee,

Honestly, I aint blame the clubs nah. While some of it may rightfully be a lack of respect not only for TnT but smaller nations, TTFF have to dam well understand that they set forth International Dates to help curb the rifts between club and country, yet our well organized TTFF plans differently.

To be honest, I am not sure if Pacheco will call up the players he has not seen in person. Apparently, he dont know about going to dvd and see what they have to offer. just my humble opinion.

In addition is the TTFF planning these friendlies on dates that they know that these players may not be released and would then turn around and blame the clubs or players for lack or cooperation/ wanting to play for TnT at their convenience!!!!!! Doh forget, its a 'BLACKLIST"
